5 comments about I Spy Little Animals (I Spy).
- Good starter I spy book for the younger spier in your house. I would say 3 or 4 would be the oldest.
- My son is always picking this book these days. He loves to find everything and does pretty well at 2 1/2.
- My 2 year old daughter enjoys this book. She often ask for her I-spy book(s) again and again and sits and looks through the book by herself. It keeps her occupied and sitting still for several minutes and that says alot.
- My 15 month old daughter loves all the I spy little books. I didn't think she would be ready for them, but after receiving this one as a gift, we've gone out and bought more. Although she loves to read, we find she seems to be more patient when we read this book and sits in our lap trying to spy for 20 minutes at a time (since we reread it).
- We stumbled on the Eye Spy books purely by accident, but what a find! While we only have a couple of them, we get them from the library all the time and I can't say enough good things. My older son (almost 4) is into counting all the things he finds and finding things that rhyme. My younger son (19 months) will look at it with me, his brother, his father, and do the signs for the objects he knows. He has also learned more signs from these books as we "read" and sign the book with him. These books are terrific!

5 comments about Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements: The Essential Guide for Improving Your Health Naturally.
- This item is so out of date it should not be stocked.
- I have grown weary of Health Shop and pharmacy employees whos expertise is limited to certain areas of medication and their interactions. I take many suppliments and could not get accurate information on interactions, and other detailed information necessary to make good informed choices. Until now. At times like this, I wish I'd gone to med school, or been a journalist, to be able to accurately and succinctly review this excellent book. Suppliments and other medications can be dangerous together, and it is imperative to be informed, so as to only take what's both necessary and healthful. At last a book that covers EVERY aspect of supplimentation, and nutritional therapy. It accurately covers interactions, ACCURATE dosage, and dangers associated. If like me, you are bombarded with information from the bottles of companies desperate to sell you their product, regardless if you really need it or not.. then this book will be a breath of fresh air for you. Nothing is left out, only pertinent information left in. A real treasure for the health conscious.
- This book is one of my texts for clinical herbal medicine and is a fantastic reference and resource book that I use regularly. Actually, in terms of nutrition, it is the first resource book I pick up. Thorough information on all the essential nutrients including safety issues. Highly recommended. The only aspect it lacks is essential amino acids, which is why it gets four stars instead of five.
- I got this book as it is part of a course I am taking. Has nothing on medicinal mushrooms which has more nutrients than most herbs or plants. Incomplete would not purchase if not required.
- A collection of brief excerpts from autobiographies of literary women around the world spanning then last 50 or so years.
Stunning read as each excerpt offers a unique cultural, historical, political and emotional insight into the 'ordinary' lives we lead.
Highly recommended.

5 comments about As the Future Catches You: How Genomics & Other Forces Are Changing Your Life, Work, Health & Wealth.
- The information in this book is a bit dated.
The author mostly ignores the stocking market tech-bubble crash, simply referring to it as the "Nasdaq Adjustment". A great deal of companies and employees were "adjusted" out of existance.
- This book will make you think...a "must read" to understand what is going on in our increasingly science-driven world.
- Ostensibly a pronouncement about the extraordinary impact that genetics is about to make on human civilization I found his comments and supporting data on knowledge societies versus commodity societies most enlightening. You live in a country without natural resources? LUCKY YOU! You have a much better chance to live in a democratic country with constitutional protections of individual rights. Countries devoid of natural wealth must invest in their human capital. In the knowledge economy this is more likely to create wealth. Small countries with few natural resources have the highest per capita median incomes in the world. If you live in a resource rich country you are more likely to be ruled by thugs or clowns who enrich themselves by enabling large companies with know-how and technology to extract the resource. They have no need to invest in their human capital. Poverty is the result. Enriquez marshals impressive data to support this claim. My optimism about the future possibilities of the Jewish people and Israel (in my own book "The Optimistic Jew") stems to great degree from Enriquez's book. His observation that now lone individuals and single zip codes can create greater wealth than entire countries enabled me to envisage Israel becoming the richest country in the world in per capita, median income by 2030.
- I am actually amazed to realize that this book has received so many positive reviews. It is pitiable from start to end. You could perhaps excuse Henriquez' poor writting style if only the content of the book had been something to cheer for. However this is not the case. Unfortunately Henriquez' argument for how genomics will shape the future of all things, is substantiated by oversimplifications and misconceptions generated by an evident lack of scientific knowledge on the author's behalf, or alternatively, a deliberate attempt to impress the unaware reader with overambitious and melodramatic factoids.
... but let us just analyse some of the statements in say, for instance, the
"MOSQUITOES" section, right among the starting pages:
"Mosquitoes
are flying hypodermic needles.
They can infect you with malaria, dengue, and other
awful things" Well... up to here everything is sort of correct - except for the fact that mosquitoes are nothing like hypodermic needles, but that mosquito's feeding apparatus, for instance, is an extremely complicated structure, quite unlike a single syringe, but hey... what do I know? - ... still, let us excuse the imprecision and awful writing style and read a bit more:
"They do so by transferring a little bit of genetic code
through their saliva..." Really? How does that happen then? Because, during the twelve years I have been studying the genetics of tropical diseases, I never heard of a publication where this has been shown... I had the idea that it was the entire microorganism (virus, parasite, bacteria, etc...) that was inoculated and then caused an infection, but apparently it is just a portion of its genetic code... or he is referring to the mosquito's genes? Help me, I'm confused...
"Into your bloodstream..."
"Which then reprograms part of the way your cells operate... "
"By changing your genetic code ever so slightly..." Oooohhhh, I'm scared...
"In ways that can make you very sick." Now, that's what I call an engaging writing style...
Unfortunately, it goes on and on for over two hundred pages...
- "As the Future Catches You" is an interesting and unique treatise on the forces driving change in today's world. The book is written in a unique style, incorporating copious graphics and charts along with varying font faces and sizes.
For those interested in learning about change...and the drivers of change from Juan Enriquez's perspective...this is a good read.
Highly recommended.

5 comments about Grass-Fed Cattle.
- I also do not own any livestock and found this book to be a great read. I had just read The Omnivore's Dilemma (loved it) and wanted to read a book on the subject of grass fed cattle, I found this book and when I saw the mention of The Omnivore's Dilemma on the front cover I knew it was the book to read. I am interested in raising some livestock in the future and want a solid base of knowledge before I start since I have never raised any animals (except of course the usual dog and cat). After reading this I have decided to do many things different than I had previously thought I might. I also have to say I agree with "Mara" another reviewer about the fertile cows and bulls, I did think of that on a number of occasions while reading the recommendations.
- My entire family has been involved in Ranching for my whole life, I purchased the book before I even started cross fencing my first ranch. This book gives great advice to properly set up a Ranch, what to do, how to do it, when to do it, etc....It is the most thorough book of the 20 or so I have read to date. I highly recommend this book. Though all the ideas are great and give you good ideas, and best practices, not all of the ideas and tips are feasible for a person who also holds down a full time job and has a ranch on the side. The book is certainly written for the full time rancher
All in all, a great Book.
- South Africa's Farmer's Weekly said this was a book every cattle farmer should have. I agree. Its easy to read, comprehensive and I hope that one day there will be a South African edition.
- I've been putting off raising beef for years. Now I know just what I want to do. I have a great opportunity because I dont have to correct my calving season. Just water and fences. This book will guide you through all the steps and explain why you should do things. I couldn't put it down.
- This book is all about future farming. Farms of the past are filing for bankruptcy left and right. Today's farms need new direction and this book is The Best Farming Book out there.

4 comments about Grasses: Versatile Partners for Uncommon Garden Design.
- Grasses by freelance gardening writer Nancy J. Ondra is a beautiful and practical guide to raising ornamental grasses in one's garden. Filled cover to cover with excellent color photographs by life-long gardener and gardening photographer Saxon Holt of aesthetic and splendid grasses, the profusely illustrated text presents the reader with a wide choice of colored grasses to best accentuate the beauty of one's garden and how to best select choice plants for wet, dry, hot, or shady sites. Highly recommended for personal and professional gardening, horticultural and landscaping reference collections, even non-gardeners will appreciate the dazzling, coffee-table book quality photography of this singularly elegant yet practical guide.
- Grasses. They add so much wonderful texture to perennial collections and the landscape. They add terrific movement, catching the smallest breezes, defying the strongest winds and I wanted them in my garden however I knew so little about them. Then along came this terrific book by Nancy J. Ondra with photographs by Saxon Holt. Everything about this book is appealing.
I appreciate the way it is laid out in four sections; Getting to Know Grasses, Color Palettes, Seasonal Usage and Selecting for Location. Ms. Ondra is a font of information without overloading your brain and as a Grasses Novice I find that useful. The photography by Mr. Holt is truly beautiful, with most of the photographs taken in combinations with other plant materials so you can get the feel of the various Grasses in the landscape. Section Four (p.94) really helps you get down to the nitty-gritty of making the appropriate selections for various soils and exposures. This is the sort of book to use year in and year out and I think would be useful to professional and advanced gardners as well as beginners. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this volume. Highly recommended!
- Love this book, wonderful pictures, but --- I find myself looking for a comprehensive chart / list that gives an overview -- so that you can make gardening choices easier ... examples; height, color, cool/warm, best conditions, clump or creep, zones --- well you get the point . . .
- This book is full of great photos of grasses in gardens, and I find it inspirational. It shows grasses mixed with other common perennials in situations most gardeners could replicate in their own gardens. The author includes growing tips and site preferences for many different species.
There are some books you always reach for on a certain type of plant, and this is the one I find myself always reaching for on grasses. I happen to be a Master Gardener who loves ornamental grass gardening.

- i ordered this item with expediated service so i could get this quickly, instead they waited a whole four days before they sent it and i never received my item, i was very disappointed in there lack of service, i dont understand why your going to charge extra for quicker delivery charge and then dont send it out at all, they told me to check the usps website to see if it was delivered, i could not get any information from them, i have yet to receive my book, i purchased my book at the school store because i had a big test coming up and i had to cram study because of this, i will never purchase anything from this carrier again
- Decent text, helpful images...
I bought this book for a microbiology class-- note to future students: just buy an older edition. they don't change too much and spending $$$ on a new hardcover current edition for ONE semester of college isn't worth it.
- The item was correct & came in good condition, but DON'T believe Amazon's shipping info. Instead of picking the free shipping this product was eligible for (which said could take anywhere from 3-14 business days, I paid for Standard Shipping (since Amazon said it took 3-5 business days). By the 6th business day I STILL hadn't received the book & called customer service where they basically said even though their shipping policy clearly states 3-5 business days that that is not always when you get it?!? I received my book on the 12th business day! Had I known their shipping info was basically a lie, I would have paid for Express or Overnight shipping. So if you need a product by a certain day, don't count on Amazon's shipping policies.
- Some of the chapters in this book are too advanced for a introductory Microbiology class.

5 comments about Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology.
- This book was necessary for my class. Its good, except I can't get the disk to work.
- This book was purchased for a high-school course.
Class hasn't started yet so can't rate the book
properly. I presume that it is good because the
school chose it.
- I think my instructor had a lot to do with it, as well as some changes in study habits since I went to college the first time (2.68). But this book definitely helped. I had a 96 average in class. It's not an easy read, nor is something to try to do without some class notes, but I thought it was clear and informative.
- Item was in exact condition as quoted and received in a pretty reasonable time frame. Would buy from this seller again.
- I feel like this was a much bigger A&P textbook that was cut down into an "Essentials" version. Every now and then you'll be faced with a term in passing as if you already understand it, when it hasn't been presented at all. It's almost like a paragraph is missing every few pages. This feeling gets worse when you try to use the online or CD quizzes which will ask questions you can not possibly answer with this text book. If you're taking a very generic class where the teach doesn't expect you to know more than the bare basics (and is willing to let you skip the parts not adequately explained in this book!) then it's passable. Otherwise, you might need an additional text to muddle through.

5 comments about Molecular Biology of the Gene (6th Edition).
- I am a bioinformatian and always look for a reference molecular biology book which not only covers a range of topics but also is clear enough for a reader with limited knowledge of molecular biology. This books is exactly the one I was looking for. Even more, it provides a nice introduction to some basic molecular biology techniques. Highly recommend to any one who wants to know more about molecular biology from other backgrounds.
- I am a clinician scientist and have always had difficulty in relating to pure basic science books. The Molecular Biology of the Gene changed my mind. Outstandingly written chapters with colorful illustrations take you through extremely complex subjects in a breeze. A masterpiece, highly recommended.
- While in High School I took the class Mol. Bio. Gene from Dr. Watsons book at George Washington U., having taken orga. &inorganic&biochem at the community college after basic chem (my HS was colocated with the comm col. in Rockville MD). Paid $14.65 for mine, a f...king fortune then. I was working for Dr. Gallo (CDC) at NIH as a summer intern, riding my bike there. (Hey it's all about ME) So... I barely passed the class...it was tough. The book is still alive and kicking, and here I am back using it to understand/design a water treatment system for a small San Diego commun(ity). I thought the old man Watson died? UCSD has a center named for him.
So amazingly, for most things that are true, test of time. This book is amazing in clearly explaining the genetic processes involved. Back then (1972) I spent a lot of time slogging through the biochem then my org. chem text book (at 16). I was building the models to understand what the hell Watson was talking about in bonding, recumbinant replication , etc. Since my NIH job involved collectiing data from experiments designed by doctors working for Dr. Gallo bent on discovering a viral gene attack (read AIDS) I was able to seriously confuse and annoy the doctors/phds by my incessant half informed questions, and screwups (has any of that changed?)
Buy it! Use it! many lab processes have changed, but the book is seminal, with original idiots like me having become like the Olive Tree (if only I could have been in the Garden...), from that seed. May you provide some salvation to the future minions of the earth which will rage battle over pure water, help create partial salvation from his tome. The concepts form the rock foundation of life and salvation for the human race. God bless you.
- This has been refined over the years to be the gold standard of an educational text . Well worth the price.
- Arrived very quickly, in time for the start of my class. The website that goes with the textbook is a great addition, the live animations really help to clarify the mechanisms explained in the book.

4 comments about Anatomy Coloring Book.
- The pictures are printed on the front of each page, and nothing is printed on the backs. This is an important characteristic for a coloring book. The only thing I'd like to see is a movable page-sized piece of imprint-resistant paper or plastic inside the book. It would help eliminate the imprints that occur on the page following the one you've just colored. Other than that, it is a great book.
- I'm taking antaomy in college and needed a way to review and study the things we cover in the lab without spending every waking moment at school. This book allows me to color each area with a different color so I can study the entire organ or specific area when reviewing for a test. I got an "A" on the first test I took after getting this book!!!
- THE BOOK IS GREAT! ITS GREAT TO USE AS A STUDY GUIDE! I RECEIVED MY BOOK IN LESS THAN A WEEK! VERY SATISFIED FOR IT BEING MY FIRST TIME PURCHASING ANYTHING IN AMAZON!
- This book is great for learning, but it also is drawn artistically.
Great tool.

5 comments about Mammal Tracks & Sign: A Guide to North American Species.
- This book has great photos of scat, prints, and other animal sign. I was able to use it to definitively identify otter scat on my property. Information is grouped by type of sign, so all the scat pictures are together, for example, and those are subdivided by how they look (pellets, amorphous, etc.). For many animals there are several examples of scat showing what you might see if the animal had been eating berries, or meat, or whatever. In addition to the photographs are drawings and scale data, and other information about animals and their habits. Though as you can tell, I mostly use it for scat identification.
- Great book - very thorough collection of mammal tracks and more. Very much worth the money.
- This book has very clear pictures and descriptions. It is a great guide to help you identify tracks and scat when you are in the mountains. It is a great resource to use when you see tracks or scat and want to know what animal left them.
- I very much enjoyed this book. The author goes into painstaking detail of many many animals (probably some you've never heard of). Not only are the tracks explained, but the possible gaits of each animal, along with the most likely ones are given great attention. There are even sections given to animal scat, what each animal eats, what claw marks might look like and one of my favorites: how to identify predators and prey from kill sites.
This book will remain the standard to the lay person and advanced tracker for quite some time (or at least until wild animals all have GPS embedded in them).
Kudos!
- This is an amazingly detailed book with many examples of the evidences of our four-footed friends sharing this space with us. The author shares stories from tracking experiences, many, many photos of homes, marks on trees, scat, tracks and anything else that helps identify what was there before you. Our hikes are much more interesting now as we look at the damaged bark of trees and marks on the paths. Our friends are impressed with the knowledge we share that we have learned from this book. We highly recommend it!
