5 comments about The Flight of Dragons.
- I have a hunch the DVD will be made available outside the US but wherever I have to go to get a high quality copy. The VHS I own is faded. I saw it years ago as a teenager by channel surfing and took note and for the longest time I couldn't even find it in the video stores. Released back in 82' at a time when Sabbath and Ronnie James Dio ruled radio. Ommedon is my all time favorite [...] next to Darth Vader.
- This is one of my favorite animated films from childhood. Along with such fantasy classics as The Last Unicorn and The Hobbit, The Flight of Dragons brings back the nostalgia of the love of fantasy from the 80s. Hopefully a DVD format will be released SOON!
- ITS HERE! The DVD version of this movie has finally been released from Warner Home Video. Amazon doesn't appear to have it yet, but I just bought it from a different website "Rare DVD Classics _ com" for $19. I have been waiting years for this movie to come out. Now my son of 7 years will be able to enjoy it hopefully as much as I did when I was a kid.
- I am wondering why The Flight of Dragons (1982 animated film) with such a voice cast as James Earl Jones, John Ritter and Harry Morgan to name a few, with a fantastic soundtrack by Maury Laws and visual animation which has stood the test of time as something truly impressive and captivating, has not been released on to dvd, not even in America, why is this? The video was released by Warner Bros in 1999, why haven't they not ventured to try a dvd release? There is obviously a large following on the internet, You Tube has had frequent postings with clips from the film and even pirate copies have been sold and are on sale on ebay, how can this be allowed? This film has even been praised by Hayao Miyazaki yet no release has been presented, not even for a short period to satisfy demand. I cannot help but think there is some reason unbeknownst to me as to why this film has not been released. It isn't the quality of the animation which was intriguing as it does vary in quality but the ideas are what made it so interesting, the notion of the imaginative world, the world of the spirit being usurped by the laws of logic, these are fascinating concepts for children and tie in with further intellectual debates as to mans place in the universe and how he grapples in coming to terms with his/her consciousness. This film has been over looked too long now and deserves a straight forward dvd release, at the very least.
- This movie, The Last Unicorn and the Phantom Tollbooth were my favorite movies as a child. Only one is out on DVD. Unfortunately it's not this one. I know the company is making a killing on the last unicorn. This one would very easily match it. If the DVD gods are reading this please, please, please put it out on DVD! I promise to buy at least 3 copies.

5 comments about The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (50th Anniversary Edition) (Disney's Masterpiece).
- the movie is a great cartoon for halloween and its ok for kids
i would highly recommend these movie for people of all ages
- The Adventures of Ichabob was one of my favorite movies growing up and is now one of my daughters. This a classic and it is wonderful that it is now available on DVD.
- I gave this movie 5 stars as the BEST "Animated" adaptation of the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow". Its short, but sweet and is a CLASSIC. Unfortunately there isn't a better film adaptation of Irving's masterpiece to compare it to. Perhaps somebody will create one that isn't completely rewritten or doesn't have so much gore. Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, while visually entertaining, was completely twisted blasphemy. That man needs some serious therapy.
- This is a great movie. I bought it for my two-year old daughter. I was nervous that it would be to spooky for her but she just loves it. She wants to watch the Legend of Sleepy Hollow every day. She constantly says "spooky, spooky" whenever she wants to see it. The songs are very creative and enjoyable too! There are also some great bonus features on the DVD as well. There are a couple of short Disney movies on it.
- The movie was a little boring from what i remembered as a young kid. Mabey there is a better movie like it.

5 comments about The Swan Princess II - Escape From Castle Mountain.
- The movie itself is rather bizarre, including songs my friends and I have dubbed "Tchaikovsky Meets the Spice Girls" and "The Scary Rock-n-Roll Song," but the fast-paced animated video would be entertaining for younger children (4-10?). The true charm of the movie lies in the voice of Prince Derek--Tony Award nominee Douglas Sills! As Derek, he is, of course, wonderful, and it's a true delight to hear him in the "No Fear Rap"! The adorable frog Jean-Bob also affords much amusement to any age audience, though the turtle got on my nerves a bit with his monotonous droning. Princess Odette is the typical heroine of children's cartoon fairy-tales: brave, devoted, and beautiful (though technically she shouldn't be able to live with a waist that tiny). The bad guy and his henchman are amusing and lovable (to the degree bad guys are), while poor Derek is stuck with a shrill-voiced mother who entertains because of her petty concerns. Prince Derek is the true selfless and courageous hero, risking his life to save first his mother and then his princess bride, facing every danger with nerves of steel, a noble heart, ever-changing eye color, and a voice to top all. The Swan Princess II is worth popping into the VCR for the kids any day and will afford amusement to anyone passing the TV. Get it now!
(3 1/2 stars for the film, countless more for Derek/Douglas Sills, plus points for the amusing conversations that ensue from watching this film with your friends)
- I loved this movie! I haven't seen the prequel, but this was a very interesting movie and it kept me watching. The prince's mother is funny and it's a neat movie.
- All I can say is this is a pointless sequel! Most Sequels are crap manufactured on the market to make an extra buck!I'm sure most people loved it! Come on People Odette and Derek get married live happily ever after the End!
- In the second of the three part series of "THE SWAN PRINCESS" "THE ESCAPE OF CASTLE MOUNTAIN" is a good movie, (in my opinion). Most sequals are a disapointment, but not this one, (and they keep the main cast from the 1st movie--which is a BIG PLUS). The singing is great and so are the songs, and the plot and acting is good as well. I think Queen Uberta is funny, (Do not mess with the Queen). Well, if you never seen this movie, I think you should, you will not be disapointed.
- I have to say, the last time that I watched the Swan Princess I was about seven, and I loved it - I liked Odette, though I hated her name, I liked Derek, though again, I thought his parents were probably having issues when they named THAT kid, and i even liked the story - and I was a PICKY kid. Not knowing the Swan Lake was a story in it's own right, with the same characters adn damn near the same plot, I couldn't even deplore the lack of originality displayed.
But this! Oh no!
Heaven forbid Disney come up with a sequel that is, oh, you know, GOOD. And trust me, I've watched them all. (hey, I do have a little cousin...) Mulan II - heaven help me. Aladdin II - heaven help you. Swan Princess II - heaven help the person who wrote it. Cos God knows, no one else should. I mean, quite frankly, the story line is so bad, they might as well leave the writing to Tchaikovsky. And he's dead.
Or whoever it was who wrote 'Swan Lake'.
Which is very good.
Hey, i'll give THAT a good review...

5 comments about Tall Tale: Unbelievable Adventure.
- Great for all ages, more movies like this one need to be made. I enjoyed the old stories so well, I am buying it for my grandkids. Also getting them the books, these stories need to be kept alive.
- First off I think that it should get more then 5 stars. I first saw this movie when it was first out. I went and saw it with me friend for me b-day. Let's just say it change our lives. It gave us something to think about, something to play(You know how when you're young you like to make up things that's what we did) This movie is great for anyone to watch. It's just great! If you haven't seen it, then you should. Believe me, you wont be sorry. Tall Tale is the best!
- We watched with 2 of our grandsons and loved this movie!! They fell in love with Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan and John Henry, which I remembered from childhood...I am buying them the movie and books about these 3 wonderful characters for Christmas..It's so good to watch a movie without all the profanity that has a good moral story...
- This is a great movie for both adults and children. The cast is perfect. We've all heard about these characters. It's fun to see them as actual people!
- TALL TALE has the potential to be an excellent film. The possibilities of a tall tale adventure with Pecos Bill, Calamity Jane, Paul Bunyan, and John Henry should be great. This isn't.
The two stars I gave it are for two performances that head and pretty good cast and the music by Randy Edelmen (the genius behind GETTYSBURG's score). Patrick Swayze is an excellent actor, and now I fully appreciate his ability to turn a complete dud of a role into gold. He takes the role of Pecos, a shallow character, and steals every moment onscreen. When he flies in and out of his tornado, you don't even glance at the larger-than-life twister because you're mesmorized by Swayze. He's excellent.
The other good acting is by Stephen Lang (also from GETTYSBURG) in a brief role as the hero's dad. The music is amazing.
The film starts off engaging enough, but slowly deteriorates down to cheesy plot and dialouge. Many of the scenes toward the end made me laugh out loud because of their predictable nature. Other negative things are often choppy visual effects and incomplete shots.
Nice try, but the film fails.

5 comments about Mary Poppins (Fully Restored Limited Edition).
- I have not received the DVD. When I try to make contact with the seller through email, the email address is "no longer available."
- Mary Poppins (40th Anniversary Edition)Excellent video; my granddaughter just LOVES it; she has been watching it repeatedly since she received it. Highly recommend this movie for 3 years and up.
- Fabulous. If you like singing, dancing, life lessons, and have an imagination this is for you
- I have numerous happy memories of seeing Mary Poppins since the first time (on its re-release in 1980). I go back to it time and again and have never been bored yet! Highlights - the horse race and the dancing cartoon waiter penguins; Chim Chim Chiree and the acrobatic chimney sweeps; Mrs Banks (Glynis Johns) and her 'Votes for Women'; Reginald Owen's Admiral (with a ship on the roof of his house!); the gorgeous 'Feed the Birds'; the special effects in 'A Spoonful of Sugar'; Ed Wynn as the giggling Uncle Albert; and of course the brilliant performances from Julie Andrews as Mary, Dick van Dyke as Bert/Mr Dawes senior, Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber as the children Jane and Michael, Hermoine Baddeley as the maid, and David Tomlinson as Mr Banks. Absolutely brilliant and definitely makes you remember being a child with a big smile on your face. Those who don't like it possibly came to it too late in life, but I can't fault it.
- I did it. I bought a Disney movie -- I mean a kids-oriented one. And then... I actually showed it to my kids (first I watched it again, just to make sure).
This is so totally out of character for me, that it *does* deserve a gasp of surprise.
Because Disney. DISNEY! No positive male role-models DISNEY! Every male character is a fool, a tool, a slob, or a villain DISNEY! Forget about little boys, because only girls are celebrated DISNEY! And yes, I still think that is the case for Disney. And I wonder who all those little girls will grow up to marry, when all the boys are fools, tools, slobs, or villains.
But Julie Andrews. JULIE ANDREWS! Mary Poppins!
So I cracked. And I bought it.
And I had a few twinges on my view-through -- the put-down of men as "rather stupid" in Mrs. Bank's first number; and the presumption that Mr. Banks' flying a kite with his children was somehow MORE valuable than his daily providing for them (I do appreciate the value of kite-flying, just not the value judgment); and the idea that the kids will respect a nanny who is sweet and pretty, but not one who smells weird.
But I went ahead and showed it to the kids, and I'm so glad, because we have been singing the songs like crazy and laughing a lot. The absolute fantasy of it is marvelous, and the songs are beautiful. I like how Bert treats Mary. I like how straight Mary is, as though she isn't magical, when she clearly is.
Very nice.
Now I'm wondering about Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Would anyone be so kind as to enlighten me about whether that one is as good? Thanks!

5 comments about Late for Dinner.
- One of my favorites! So charming, warm, and romantic. Can see again and again. I just can't understand why it has not been released in DVD format. Two friends, actually brother-in-laws flee a crime they did not commit and destiny brings them to a town where Cryonics is taking place...and for 29 years, the two are frozen...leaving a loving wife and daughter as well as sister behind, until fate changes the destinies of all. A must see. And a must to finally be sold in DVD format....PLEASE!!
- I'm grateful my VHS copy survived long enough for me to dub this movie to DVD. I love it now as much as I did when I first saw it. I think the rapport with Berg and Wimmer is wonderful. I like the Tinker toy/kismet quality of the cryogenics piece. It is a film I watch over and over.
Absolutely this should be out on DVD. VHS tape doesn't last forever. Mine probably had a year left in it. A shame for people to miss this fine gem over format!
- Like 'Yarn" I also was able to transfer my vhs copy
onto a blank dvd disc before it became unwatchable.
This movie is for all those who still believe that
love conquers all.And in this movie it will almost
have to.Can you imagine having your lover disappear
and return 20 odd years later not having aged a day?
This is truly a sweet feel good movie.
Please PUT IT ON DVD
- This is one of my favorite movies and we all know VHS tapes don't keep the quality very long as you play them over and over. This is a great movie-how come it never went to DVD? Who can we write to request this?
- Even though this only came out on video, it is a great movie, and worth putting in your collection. It is my mother's favorite.

- This product has an amazing amount of supplementary material. More than I ever realized existed about this subject!
- I certainly have enjoyed "THE WIZARD OF OZ" through-out all these years. One thing remains a mystery to me. The original Laserdisc versions had an "extras" feature about the movie. The MGM re-release showed coming attaction trailers that introduced the Movie's arrival again. Even in the Turner Intertainment ( 1989 dvd version) the following trailer indicated:
IF YOU'VE SEEN IT BEFORE... YOU'LL GET A LIFT ALL OVER AGAIN
ALL THE MAGIC. THE SPECTACLE AND BEAUTY... Better than ever in WIDESCREEN ! This is not in reference to the Version that was shown
in Theatres around 1998 either !
Where is the Widescreen Version made mention of in this trailer ?
- "There's no place like home." Dorothy and her friends seek the answer to their desires in a land of dreams and nightmares. Brilliant use of color and sepia. Classic songs, incredible performances and special effects that still hold up today. One of my ten best.
- I was sent the French DVD of The Wizard of Oz. I sent it back to sender and asked for the English version. I hope I receive it.

5 comments about Star Wars Trilogy (Special Edition).
- Look i just wanted to rate this product. it was great. i shouldn't have waited so long to buy it but then i had the VHS version till about a few months ago. the DVD set has an awesome bonus disc that contains a documentary about the struggles George Lucas had just making star wars happen. Theres only one difference i noticed in the film between the VHS version and the DVD versions and thats Hayden Christensen, His inclusion does make sense i suppose but it still feels out of place. the rest is gold.
- This set was purchased as a Christmas present last year and the gift was really enjoyed a lot.
- I love the original trilogy of Star Wars. It is far better than episodes 1, 2, and 3. And far more memorable. These will be around forever.
- As I'm quite sure you know the basic storyline of Star Wars, I am just reviewing the features of this set. I really enjoyed the quality of the remastered movies. I saw the special editions in the theater, but these include even more updates, such as character continuity with Anakin and Palpatine. I never owned the complete original series before (tho I've always been an avid fan), so I am happy with it.
- The Star Wars Trilogy are three of my favorite movies. And, the boxed set I have came in excellent condition. All three movies look great in this DVD package.

5 comments about Fantasia 2000 (Walt Disney Pictures Presents).
- It's interesting to note that while the entertainment industry is bellyaching about piracy and the copying of DVDs, Disney being among the loudest bawlers, you can't buy a new copy of this marvelous DVD for love or money, either here or at Disney's own store, and the price for a used copy is higher than that of most new movies. Apparently the demand is there, but Disney doesn't care about supply. Disney is said to put their movies in "a vault," bringing them out only every ten years, but other animated features such as "Kronk's new Groove" (2005) and "Mickey's House of Villains" (2002) are readily available. Meanwhile, free segments of "Fantasia 2000" are being given away on YouTube. Smart.
I may've paid top dollar for my copy of "Fantasia 2000" but I have no buyer's remorse, as it's a great show. Those who remember the original (1940) "Fantasia" as something suitable only for children and the anile would be well advised to take a look at this production. The quality of the animation is at Disney's highest standards, but the concepts and the images depicted are far more sophisticated than almost any other animated feature I've seen, the sole exception being Tomek Baginski's "The Cathedral."
This sets the standard of what can be done in presenting visuals to serious music. When classical music is shown on television, there is absolutely nothing original or creative about the camera work, as they use the same shots they've used since the 1940s. There is the master shot of the orchestra, and each time an individual instrument or section makes an entrance, there is a close-up, as if to assure you that, Yah, dot iz ah trumpet. There is always the mandatory close-up of the mallets whenever the timpani has a roll, and you get to see the conductor waving his arms and making faces at the orchestra - none of which augments my enjoyment of Beethoven at all. The Naxos company is selling videos of rustic European towns and landscapes providing the visuals for the classics, but such a slide show is as dull as . . . as a slide show.
But this is different. The combination of images in motion, coordinated to the music, and intelligent story lines really do compliment the great music, and the most popular chapter, Respighi's "The Pines of Rome," is especially inspired. If your idea of "aht" is Jackson Pollock or Karen Finley, you may not feel exhilarated by it, but for the rest of us, it is American art at its finest.
Of interest to audiophiles is the astonishing sound of this DVD. As CDs were an obvious improvement over the sound of LPs (disputed only by the senile), the sound of the best DVDs is as much an improvement over CDs, and the sound here is spectacular. There is, I would judge, no compression and no limit to the frequency response. My 18-inch Velodyne HGS subwoofer has trouble reproducing the ultra-low frequencies at the beginning of "The Pines of the Appian Way," so those playing it on toy computer speakers should take caution.
This is a genuine work of art fit for grownups - now if only Disney would market it.
- As much as I enjoyed the original Fantasia, this new installment tops it. Fantasia 2000 is much more bright, entertaining, and re-watchable. 2000 prefers upbeat and even humorous animation to the slow and often gloomy sequences that saturated the original. The vibrant colors and dramatic song intros are welcome and significant improvements over the dark animation and dry, dull silhouettes of the first. The animation matches the music to a much greater level of detail, offers drama and humor, and does not demand nearly as much patience. The Sorcerer's Apprentice is really the only piece that could stand up to Fantasia 2000's selection, and even this classic reveals the weaknesses of the original Fantasia.
- Roy E. Disney has worked tirelessly to bring Fantasia 2000 to the big screen. Created as a continuation of the dream of a concert movie experience created by Walt Disney 60 years ago with the original Fantasia this new film provides eight more animated segments presented with classical music.
The musical selections are unique. Many of them first broached by Walt Disney himself when making selections for the original film in 1940. Starting with an abstract rendering of Beethovan's Fifth Symphony, the selections include Ottorino Resphighi's Pines of Rome showcasing flying whales, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (a New York story rendered in Hirshfeild line drawings); Piano Concerto No. 2, Allegro, Opus 102 by Shostakovich; Carnival of the Animals (Le Carnaval des Animaux), Finale by Saint Saens; Dukas Sorceror's Apprentice (the lone holdover from the original film); Pomp and Circumstance, Marches #1, 2, 3, & 4 by Edward Elgar and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, 1919.
The animation techniques are quite good and varied in style and technique. The film was designed to be viewed on the Imax system and the print is nearly flawless. The sound carries over quite well on the Dolby DTS track that I listened to. The disc features quite a few outstanding extras including an hour long making of feature called Fantasia the Legacy Continues; two excellent commentaty tracks featuring Disney, Conductor James Levine and Producer Don Ernst and the second featuring the animators and art directors; a production reel and two shorts.
This one is well worth seeking out to complete your collection.
- I know that "Fantasia" was suppose to be a continual work-in-progress, but this is several decades too late to capture Walt's true vision, I'm sure. Still, I think it warrants 4 stars for beautiful music and some great animation.
- The original Fantasia is two hours long. Fantasia 2000 is only 75 minutes long. Sure, it's more attention-grabbing, but this is even less compelling than the original.
Beethoven's 5th is underused (only four minutes worth of music compared to the twenty minutes of the 6th). The second movement of "Pines of Rome" by Ottonio Respighi is entirely cut out. WHY? The Finale to "Carnival of the Animals" is more bombastic than it should be. "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin has some good points, so no loss there. "Pomp and Circumstance" by Sir Edward Elgar is a hit and miss. Donald Duck is supposed to be a nonchalant, hot-headed duck, but I guess political correctness got its wish here. Shostakovich's "Piano Concerto" is uninteresting, and it lacks the beauty and charm that's found in the original. And finally, they could've used the complete 1910 version of Igor Stravinsky's "Firebird" rather than the 1949 suite. The villain of the sequence is awe-inspiring, however.
So the animation is much better-looking than the original, but it lacks the intrigue and extreme risk-taking that was found in the original. So I give this a C+.

5 comments about A Clockwork Orange.
- C'mon.. if you are a fan of movies,
this is an ESSENTIAL purchase.
You will never forget this movie once you watch it.
NEVER.
I read Heath Ledger was watching this movie to prepare for his Dark Knight Joker role...
thats very cool.
- This movie is truly timeless and although certain elements betray its age e.g. use of cassettes in the future instead of cds, use of a typewriter instead of a desktop pc by the writer etc, this film transcends time and its message is still very thought-provoking and evokes strong responses from viewers just like modern avant-garde artworks are supposed to. From "Dr. Strangelove" to "2001: A Space Odyssey" to this, Stanley Kubrick's brilliant directing genius can only be described as producing cinematic high works of art. Just like in the great "2001:...", Kubrick forces you to think about serious issues, stunning and shocking you to come to your own conclusions and to stimulate your senses all the while refusing to tell you what to think.
Some may feel Alex got off too easy and for all his major offences against society should be severely punished ala capital punishment and may actually come to this conclusion from watching the film. Others may actually feel sorry for and happy for Alex that he returns to "normal" and that the powers that be get what they deserve with the threat of a loss of power. Either way, the film disturbs you enough to elicit strong responses making it difficult to remain indifferent or to not have an opinion which is the definition of good modern art.
This film could also be a metaphor for thought control and governance asking the question: is it proper to force people to accept an ideology even if they don't truly believe it themselves? Whether it is Communism or even Capitalism or any religion should people be given a choice which one to go with or should society take all steps to penalise even to the point of using physical pain and suffering to ensure compliance? It is telling at the end when Alex becomes "healed" only when he realises that the very powers that are trying to "heal" him are sick and maybe even sicker than he is; a different sort of corruption but corruption nonetheless.
This film as time has shown is the true winner of the Oscar for the Best Picture, Director and Actor awards for that year and how "The French Connection" won for these categories is beyond belief. This film is certainly a lot more rewarding on so many levels and has certainly aged a lot better to rank among the best ever films.
The great news is that the digital restoration and remastering has been done very well making both the picture and sound quality of this dvd very, very good indeed. Although the Special Features are nothing to speak about, I'm hoping the newly-released Blu-Ray version will have extras such as making-of and other sorts of documentaries as well.
By far a film masterpiece by the great Kubrick and a must-have for every film buff's dvd library.
Highly recommended!
- I AM 22 AND FOR ABOUT 7 YEAR I HAVE HEARD PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THE CLOCK WORK ORANGE MOVIE, I HAD BEEN DESCRIBED PARTS OF THE MOVIE AND WAS VERY INTERESTED BY THE MOVIE.
ONE I HAD FINISHED WATCHING THE MOVIE I FOUND THIS TO BE BIZZAAR, BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT IN ITS DAY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY GOOD MOVIE.
PREWARNING:- BE PREPARED FOR RAPE AND VIOLENCE AND IF YOU LIKE THE SONG 'SINGING IN THE RAIN' IT WILL CHANGE YOU VEIW ON THE SONG FOREVER.
BUT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT I WOULD RECOMMEND TO DO SO.
- Stanley Kubrick (R.I.P) does it all - cameras, lights, sound. He is a one man show. They should do more movies like that in the futer. Malcom McDowell is a genius. Four Oscar nominations. A brilliant peice of film making.
- Please, please stay the heck away from this dog. Basically, it's a bunch of street punks running around in diapers and women's makeup talking about "ultra-violence" that never really occurs, and the plot is even worse. This one gave me a massive migraine. I am truly not kidding about what this flick did to me! I remember watching it, hoping there was a point to all of it, but there truly wasn't. If you liked that massive WTF moment at the end of 2001 A space Odyssey, then this one's for you, since you'll get it. I sure as heck didn't, I actually grew nauseous at the end of this one. Right up there with "Natural Born Killers" and "Repo Man" in the badness scale.
