5 comments about Toy Story 2.
  1. I bought this back when it was $45 used, and I considered it a steal then. The Toy Story movies are absolute classics, no question about it. Even as computer animation gets better and better, these movies don't feel dated at all. (hint to Dreamworks: it's because the movies are filled with rich characters, not weak pop-culture references masquerading as "jokes.")

There are better versions of the movies available, but the differences are small and the Toy Box is a bit cheaper than getting the other editions separately (as of 6/4/2008, at least). You miss out on a few special features, but most of the ones on the other editions are taken from this set. The picture quality is also ever-so-slightly better on the other editions (although picture quality is not a problem at all on this set).

It should also be mentioned that the DVD packaging on this set is beautiful. The DVDs come in standard cases housed in a silvery box with wireframe versions of some of the characters from the films printed on it. A clear plastice slipcase goes over that, with the fully-rendered versions of the characters replacing the wireframe versions. It's pretty clever, really.

The other editions are here, if you really must have the very best versions of them:
    Toy Story (10th Anniversary Edition)
Toy Story 2 (Two-Disc Special Edition)

  2. My son loves Toy Story and Toy Story 2. I personally think that the second movie is fun because there are new characters. Voices are funny and story line is good. I would recommend this movie for kids and for families.

  3. Not only do my 2 and 3 year old boys love this movie, mommy and daddy do too!

  4. Yea, I have been wanting Toy Story 2 and now found it for a great price here on Amazon.

  5. I bought this movie for my collection. It is very good, no matter how old it is. My kids and I enjoy the movie everytime we wath it.

5 comments about Toy Story.
  1. This is one of the classic computer animated movies by Disney. A must have for any disney DVD collection, it reminds me of when I used to think my toys came alive at when I left the room. It is a great movie and again, should be in every parents DVD collection.

  2. When you watch this movie the story doesn't let you care about graphics. You get involved with the characters from the beginning.

But anyway, the graphics are good enough for noticing the care they took with details. It is more shocking if you know it was the first movie of its kind. Originated completely by computer.

  3. I wasn't quite sure how to rate this movie. I have always been a fan of Disney movies and this one just did not feel good like other ones.

The story is about two toys getting lost, and found by a bad boy who mistreats toys (for example, he cuts off the heads of toy figures and puts the heads in lava lamps to float around). The two toys who got lost in the first place hate each other until the end of the movie, so they are bickering the whole time while trying to escape the dark atmosphere of the bad boy's room. Of course every story has an antagonist that generates an antagonistic feeling, I feel that TOO much of this movie was spent in the dark atmosphere. All the name-calling between Woody, Buzz, Potato Head, etc just bugged me. The end of the story turns out wonderful, of course, and some of the scenes are really fun and heartwarming -- but really I don't get a good feeling from this movie in general.

It's not something I particularly like my kids watching. I cringe every time my 3-year-old asks to see "The Buzz Movie." He LOVES Buzz, who is the main "good guy" in the movie, and I let him have a Buzz-decorated bedroom at his request. But I limit how much he can actually watch this movie and try to counter it with more generally positive movies like Cars, Finding Nemo, or shows on Noggin.

  4. IT WAS FOR MY GRANDSON...AND HE LOVES IT!!!! THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT SO GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. This video is so much fun and marks the tenth year of Toy Story being out. I think Toy Story will become a "timeless treasure" because it is great for adults as well as kids.

  1. I was very happy to get a good price and a tape in great condition. We have watched this many, many times. The order was placed and I received it within the same week. I am very satisfied. Thank you.

  2. I ordered a New 2 disc sleeping Beauty, and I received a Used 1 disc copy instead. The Used copy will not play in my dvd player... I have contacted the seller and they will not response back to me... I have contacted Amazon, and I am on Hold... I have asked for a refund, and been refused. I have been a faithful customer with Amazon for years, so needless to say, I am very disappointed in the treatment that I am getting from the seller and the company.
If you go to the seller reviews, you will read nothing but bad comments from the customers who have ordered from them...

  3. Very hard to find, unless the goofy Disney vault re-releases it. I had a problem with the sticker around the DVD hole as this was from a Utah library. It got stuck in my DVD player, had to open it and take it out. Other than that the movie plays fine.

  4. The DVD arrived in a timely fashion. However, it was cracked on the bottom of the DVD and was, therefore, unreadable by my DVD player. When I initially complained, I was promised another copy of Sleeping Beauty. Weeks have gone past and I never got the replacement copy. I then contacted both the vendor and Amazon and, now, over a month later -- still no replacement and no word. If you want to avoid being ripped off, I would seriously avoid this vendor.

  5. For some reason, and I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'm really not into Sleeping Beauty. I adore Disney movies and have seen pretty much every one, with the exception of a couple. This does not rank high on my list. The story never really interested me, the music was just OK. It came as a bit old fashioned for me.
That said, It's certainly not a bad movie by any means, just not as enjoyable as some of the other brilliant ones out there.

5 comments about Monsters, Inc..
  1. I love animated films and Monster Inc. is no exception. It's got great animation, characters and a well thought out story, but it might be a little too intense for the youngest viewers. Classic monster buffs will catch lots of winks and nods to the days of yesteryear in this irresistible and funny film. It might do your young children good to see this with an adult to help them get over 'the monsters in the closet' syndrome most kids have at a young age. The two disc set has a beautiful DVD transfer and lots of extras.

  2. My four-year old enjoyed this movie, and was not scared by the monsters, but didn't really understand what was going on (although I thought it was hysterical). I would recommend for perhaps 6 or 7+.

  3. My answer would be no.
Movie after movie is brilliant, innovative, imaginative, beautiful.
    The animation is awesome.
    The voices are spot on.
I wish Disney would take a closer look at why Pixar is so successful.
No annoying characters, and no annoying songs every five seconds.
Pixar movies are for everyone, not just the kids.
Monsters is probably my favorite still.
The story is so good, I don't even know how many times I've seen this.
The ending pulls at the old heartstrings.
I recommend this along with EVERY movie Pixar has done.
    For kids, for adults.
If I could give this movie ten stars, I would.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

  4. A good movie to put a smile on your face and take a break from real life.

  5. Love this movie. These "monsters" are lovable and cute. My daughter that is usually easily frightened loves this movie and so do I. Appropriate for adults and children.

5 comments about Aladdin.
  1. Yeah, yeah I know.....It's supposed to be for kids.
This is why Disney flopped and Pixar took over the world.
Pixar's movies appeal just as much to adults as they do to the kids.
    Alladin?
    It's your typical disney fare.
    Bright colorful animations.
Your typical hero who saves the day.
It's a cute easy to watch movie, just not very memorable.
And my biggest gripe as with all disney movies.
I CAN'T STAND THE CONSTANT SONGS!!!
    Pixar succeeds on that also.
Cut it out with the musicals every five seconds.
Otherwise, a great movie for kids with very little to offer adults.

  2. This is as close as we'll ever come to seeing the inside of Robin Williams' brain. They called him in, and as he started to riff, they added more and more animators and essentially drew his creative process. I think he did something like 40 something characters as the genie, including William F. Buckley Jr. and Jack Nicholson. Even if you're not a fan of animation, strap in and take the ride. You won't be disappointed.

  3. Aladdin is definately one of the best Disney movies. However, all of these added "special features" that drive up the cost of the DVD and dub it "platinum" are completely unnecessary. Disney has a bad habbit of adding useless garbage to their DVDs. Unfortunately, Aladdin is not available on DVD without all of the nonsense.
I would still recommend this movie to anyone young or old for a good laugh and to see Disney's usual ability to transform an old tale into a "magical" story for all to enjoy.

  4. My 2 year old granddaughter loves this movie. She sings along to most of the movie. She is saying all the words too.

  5. My daughter loved the movie! I received in due time, and thankfully I was able to get it, since disney no longer sells it!

5 comments about Cinderella (Disney).
  1. This is a classic that every girl, teenage girl {if they admit it} or young woman will love. Some of the older women love to watch a sweet love story too from time to time.

Cinderella is an ageless love of a animated movie that will live in our hearts and DVD library's for our eternity.

    Great gift too~

    Merna

Pocket of Pearls: A 30-day pocket workbook to start hearing a softer voice inside of you!

  2. I bought this for a gift. It didn't have the paper sleeve covering the DVD. I really have no complaints.

  3. This is the original Cinderella Movie - quality restored and looks as good as I've ever seen it look!

  4. My granddaughter loves the movie. It was a birthday present she really wanted as she is collecting the Disney "princess" movies. It arrived on her birthday and just in time to make it to the party. Thank you for your quick response.

  5. I was glad to find this on Amazon for my daughter. She loves the video and it is her #1 video right now.

5 comments about Fantasia.
  1. This animated classic, a "concert feature," is the foundation of my film career. It is the basis for my love of animation, of classical music, of mythology and of dinosaurs. I must have been six or seven, maybe younger, when I saw it in the theatre. I screamed during the Night on Bare Mountain sequence; I remember trying to keep it together, trying not to scream, then one of the harpies (I know which one to this day) flew at the camera and I let out a high-pitched yelp, much like the YAP doled out by the small Who that saves the Whos in "Horton Hears a Who." Every head in the audience turned towards me in the dark. I've not screamed since.

I've seen the deleted, racist, scenes on YouTube, those awful stains on the otherwise lovely Pastorale sequence. I do think they should be restored so people can see what Disney was all about. I hate the idea of watching this movie in a happy dream without some reminder of the harsh social climates of the time. It is tantamount to the ignorance that included it in the film in the first place.

I'm sorry Deems Taylor had to be revoiced. And I seriously wish the Claire de Lune would have been included as a deleted scene on this disc. One can only get it by buying the other Fantasia discs and there is nothing worth anything on those. Fantasia 2000 runs like a series of CalArts student projects. Why not continue what Walt had planned? Ride of the Valkyries would have been a jaw-dropping short to open it with. The Swan of Tuonela, from the storyboards, would have been a haunting masterpiece.

Well, one can only hope for a proper, better disc. Until then, I will watch this edited, sanitized version - and try not to scream when the Harpy flies off the screen.

  2. This movie was clearly way ahead of its time when it was released in the early 1940s and I'm not surprised that it was a box-office flop at that time as it struck me while watching this that this must be the "Sgt. Pepper's" of animation at that time. Another major reason for the lack of success was that the logistics of the times were not up to scratch as few theatres were equiped with stereophonic sound and probably fewer audiences still were able to stand what amounts to more than 2 hours of a collection of music videos and yet it's unmistakeable that this is simply a work of art and this movie alone convinced me that Walt Disney was a genius.

Some of the scenes were like Mickey on an acid trip and this movie was clearly targeted at an adult audience more so than say a "Snow White" was clearly targeted at kids. I thoroughly enjoyed these classical music MTVs except for Bach's "Toccata and Fugue In D Minor" which was arranged for orchestra by Stokowski instead of in the original solo pipe organ arrangement which would have been better and the "Meet the Soundtrack" segment both of which should have been left off and would not have been missed.

The rest of the videos though were excellent and I found myself better appreciating the original compositions when listened together with the brilliant animation that although is almost 70 years old now still looks very impressive to me although I'm sure the brilliant digital restoration had a large part to play in it as well. My favourite was the Beethoven 6th Symphony video with Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" coming in a close second. Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite" video was charming too and Ponchielli's "Dance of the Hours" was just hilarious! The "Night On Bald Mountain" video was chilling and would give any death metal video ala the band Death a good run for its money in terms of scare value too.

What I really liked the best about this DVD though is the brilliant sound quality with Dolby Digital, DTS Surround Sound in 5.0 channels with THX quality which makes it better for me to listen to the classical music tracks off the DVD than off my cds on my high end stereo! The picture quality has been restored very well too and so the minor imperfections were few and far between and you really had to look real hard to find them.

The special features were a real treat too with the featurette "The Making of Fantasia" the standout item there. Great picture and sound quality and brilliant content make this my best and favourite music video DVD and to think this was decades before MTV and much, much better too.

    Highly recommended!

  3. Love the movie but I belive the copy I got is not origional. The bonus stuff was not on the DVD, the case did not include any of the documentation. The last two pieces were not viewable due to defects in the DVD. I guess when they release it again I'll have to buy another, but then I'm going to the source, not through Amazon.

  4. Watched this movie after my parents got it for me on video for the 60th anniversary edition. It has always been my favorite Disney movie and now I share it with my nieces. I was probably 3 when I first saw it so ignore those people who say kids won't like it I loved it. Probably shouldn't let kids see the last one til they're older though as it is rather scary. My nieces love the fairies and unicorns.

  5. I can not rewiew Eantasia because I have a real problem with it. This problem is that I never received it and already I paid for it. really I don not know what is happeneing with my Fantasia.

5 comments about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Disney).
  1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Disney Special Platinum Edition) If you're tired of foul language and violence, recapture the excitement of your youth by viewing an original Disney classic. With the new advancements in sound reproduction and digital imagery, I actually feel my recent viewing of this movie was even better than in the '50s when I first saw this
on the "big" screen. "Baby Boomer" nostalgia.

  2. Absolutely delightful! I didn't think I'd like this, but the animation is beautiful and the story took me back to my childhood. I would have given it 5 stars had it not been for Snow White's irritating voice. Parents if your kids haven't seen this, please get it for them before they get spoiled by Rugrats and South Park!!

  3. Simply put this is a super Disney classic, worth every dime I paid for it. We purchased the movie because we were taking our three year old daughter to Disneyworld and she didn't even know who Snow White was because we couldn't rent the movie from a video store or the local library on DVD. I grew up on the Disney princess movies, she's a little girl and should be able to enjoy all of the Disney movies while she is still little. They need to re-release all of the Disney classics on DVD. A generation of little ones are missing out.

  4. Pure delight to see real artistic animation. Color, artistry, classical
musicianship, and beauty. Every child and adult must see this Disney
Academy Award winning animation classic. Restores the beliefs of
giving, compassion, kindness, beauty and love.

  5. The older Disney movie's were and are my favorites.

This version of Snow White is vibrant and beautiful - the movie has never looked better.

Like most Disney DVDs that come and go in their releases it can be sometimes hard to find, so make sure to get the DVD when you can.

5 comments about Beauty and the Beast (Disney).
  1. Excellent movie. One of the best Walt Disney Movies ever made. Very fast shipping and excellent quality. There was a little skipping, but nothing that can't be fixed.

  2. Another fine example why Pixar has prospered and Disney has declined.
    ENOUGH WITH THE SINGING!!!
Did you see the monsters in Monsters Inc. singing? Nope.
    Finding Nemo? Nope.
    ENOUGH!!!
Fine for kids, annoying for adults.
A beautiful (no pun intended) movie ruined by constant songs.
Buy it for the kids but be prepared to buy cotton for your ears.

  3. Belle is a beautiful young woman, living in a lively French Village. She's the outcast however, because unlike the other women in the town, she prefers to read novels then drool over the town's prized hunter Gaston. Her Father Maurice one day, sets off to take his invention; (A firewood chopper) to a State Fair. But things go wrong when he gets lost in the Woods, and a pack of Wolves hunt after him. Maurice ends up at a beautiful caslte, where servants welcome him in. These aren't ordinary servants however! No! These are enchanted servants; A Clock, A Teapot, Candlestick, and other various things! Maurice is awe struck, but before anything can really happen, the master of the castle, (known in the entire film as the Beast) locks him up in the dungeon for tresspassing in his castle. Meanwhile, the horse that Maurice rode on in the woods has made it's way back to the little Village. Belle, finding the tired horse, realizes that something is wrong for with her father. The Horse takes Belle to the castle, where she runs inside to get him back. It's here where she bargains with the Beast to take her imprisoned father's place at the Castle. The Beast agrees, and Maurice is sent back to the Town. What will happen to Belle in the castle? Will the Beast harm her in anyway? What will Maurice do when he enlists the help of the arrogant Gaston?

Beauty and the Beast is helmed with wonderful characters, such as Belle. Unlike most Disney heroine's, she's not helpless at all. She has a backbone, and can fend for herself. Many times thru the movie she quarrles with the Beast, and shows off her feisty independence. It's great to get such a strong female character, when many women are damsels in films. Paige O'Hara lends her voice and sings for Belle, which adds only more to the magic.

The Beast is a very complex character indeed, when he learn he's enchanted like this servants. Many times in the movie we see him fight with this inner demons and struggle greatly when he realizes he loves Belle. Robby Benson (1970's - 1980's hunk) sings and speaks for the Beast, and again does wonders.

Let's also not forget the cast of hilarious servants! Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, and Cogsworth! In true Disney fun they add to the magic and create wonderful funny moments and good songs for kids. But it's really the arrogant, casnaova Gaston that steals the show. With his hilarious one sided love with Belle, to his laugh out loud proposal to her, Gaston is one great character.

The Animation is stunning for something made in the 90's, and even today it still looks good. The songs, (which were nominated for Academy Awards!) are beautiful, and not annoying as many Disney songs are known for. Be Our Guest is a nice little song, Something There pretty little song also, but Beauty and the Beast sung by Angela Lansbury takes the cake.

One thing does annoy me about Beauty and the Beast. Now, I know it's Disney movie, and they can't go and make a three hour movie for kids, but it would have been nice to have the relationship between Belle and the Beast fleshed out a little bit more. Thirty minutes in the movie, after meeting Belle, and the Beast has already fallen for her. It would have been nice to see more romance, more budding friendship then what was provided.

As for questionable material; (for parents) Gaston and his croonies are seen hanging out in a Pub, drinking beer. Three of the towns wenchs who are in love with Gaston wear low cut dresses. The Beast as a angry moment and throws stuff around in his room. There are some scary moments with wolves, and the ending fighting scene between Gaston and the Beast may be scary for some.

All in all, a nice solid animated movie. If the rumors are true, we might see the Broadway version coming to movie threaters!

  4. Need I say more?! I mean, come on, people ACTUALLY rated this movie with ONE STAR?!?!?!?!

  5. This product Was well recieved in a timely fashion. It was in mint condition just as promised.

5 comments about Lion King.
  1. I saw this in theaters and loved it. Naturally, I got the tape when it came out to own. When the DVD was released, I upgraded to that. This is a movie I still watch regularly. Yeah, I'm a 26 year old guy who likes the Lion King. Got a problem with that?

But what's the deal with Disney and their whole "Vault" thing? How many classic movies are now OOP because of this silly marketing... um... strategy? Now people have to pay an arm and a leg just to own these great films. Referring to the older movies, I think Walt would have wanted his work to be seen and re-discovered by those poor saps who were either too young or not born yet when the opportunity arose to own these classic films. But now they're back in the "Vault." Tough luck, junior. Right? It's almost disgraceful.

This has been going on since the days of VHS. Hey, Disney. Release the DVDs and keep them in print so people will steadily buy them. That's how you MAKE MONEY. People who really want these movies are going to buy them the week they're released anyway; you don't have to put them in a panic by promising the DVDs will only be available for a limited time.

How exactly do you make money off a popular hit by taking it off the market? I don't understand the logic in that. The Lion King is a great movie and should be available for anyone to purchase at any time.

  2. Great movie, ordering from Amazon was a necessity as the Lion King is not yet released on DVD in Australia. Arrived quickly, within the allocated time.

  3. I was led to believe that the DVD was new, however on watching it, it has an error in it. I'm disappointed.

  4. Was not happy with the quality of the 1st dvd at all. I have to say that James Shaw (at media_fun) sent me out a new dvd right away. Well, number 2 dvd also stoped in the same place the first dvd did. They did not seem authentic. On the DVD I purchase from Redford entertainment on the back was writting in small letters The lion king 2 Simba's pride, there was no writing on the back of The Lion King. I sent them both back and hope to get a full refund.
    Cheri Reynolds

  5. I have not received my order, even though it was billed to my credit card. Neither the supplier nor Amazon have answered any E-Mails inquiring about the whereabouts of my order.
