5 comments about The Wizard of Oz.
- Very pleased with this product! This collection has all the back ground history of making the "Wizard of Oz" movie.
- Who does not love Dorothy Gale, her adorable dog, Toto, and her lovable and musical friends, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion? Were we not all dazzled by the extraordinary color change from black, white, and sepia, to a brilliant display of the new technology of Technicolor, altering the entire mood of the film? The Wizard of Oz is beloved by many, and remembered by all. Personally, I grew up watching and adoring this movie and singing all of the unforgettable, catchy tunes. I have even dressed up as Dorothy for Halloween. This is a timeless classic, portraying a story of perseverance, friendship, and self sufficiency among other things. The tale of the four friends' journey and triumph over the wicked witch to get what they needed; be it home, a brain, courage, or a heart has been inspiring people since 1939.
To me, the movie seems to personify the triumph of good over evil, as well as perseverance. As the story starts out, Dorothy simply wants to keep her dog, and be independent. However, she ends up finding herself in a great deal of trouble, seemingly far from home, and feeling extremely dependent. This shows just how childlike, and human her character is, and how she has "the grass is always greener on the other side" type of attitude. However, she and her four-legged companion, Toto are obviously quite easy to get along with, as she makes friends almost everywhere she goes. Each of these new friends, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion all want something both relatively simple, yet incredibly complex. They want only small things, though those very things mean a great deal to each of them. Only a truly loving, intelligent, or courageous person would wish for a heart, a brain, or courage. Others would wish for more material things, and I think this shows what truly good people each of the characters were.
Dorothy only wants to get back home to Kansas, her family, and her familiar life. The Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion, want a brain, a heart, and courage, respectively. Throughout the movie, they travel many miles, and overcome many obstacles just to see the wizard. Narrowly escaping evil trees, a flame throwing witch, and sleep-inducing poppies, they finally arrive in Oz to meet the infamous Wizard. Only the magical, ruby red slippers of the deceased wicked witch of the east identify Dorothy as being legitimate in the eyes of the citizens of Oz. After having the wizard reject her first request, she is sent on another mission. During this process, Dorothy is captured, and nearly killed by the still living witch, as her friends cunningly plan her successful escape. In one fell swoop, Dorothy takes down the witch dynasty for good, melting the Wicked Witch of the West with a bucket of water, allowing Dorothy to take her broom back to the wizard. These loyal friends went to great lengths to save and help her, and each other, showing one of the great themes of the movie.
The witch's broom satisfies the wizard, though his returned gift of 'magic' is slightly less impressive than had been expected, necessitating a new form of magic. Self sufficiency and self actualization are major themes of the film, and are rather evident, especially in the end. As a conclusion, Dorothy and her companions find they could have gotten along without the wizard's help all along. All they really needed was confidence, and to appreciate what they already had and took for granted, which they discovered without any real assistance from the wizard, besides perhaps a few encouraging words. Each person eventually found their respective desires within themselves, as they could have all along, though the true test was to dig deep to find each of them.
Good triumphing over evil is a prominent theme of the movie, as well as the innocence of childhood, and friendship. The four friends unconditionally love and protect one another, and go to great lengths to do so. Dorothy's obvious innocence kept her from always seeing things as they were. She did not expect anyone could be so wicked, as the witch and many others were. Also, the story, that we eventually learn Dorothy dreamed up, is somewhat obviously just that; a child's dream. In hindsight, the costumes of the characters were both realistic, and just fake enough to make out who the characters represented in the young girl's life. I always found this to be a rather interesting fact. During her entire stay in Oz, Dorothy never seemed to realize her new friends were indeed the same as her old ones from Kansas, though when she wakes up back in her bed, she knows that each of them were also in her dream. This shows that each of them have parallel mannerisms with their previous characters.
Even the score for the film is fantastic. As a musician, and a child who grew up singing "If I only had a brain," I quite appreciate the musical aspects of this glorious movie. Each of the songs portrays the individual parts of the movie, as well as the film in its entirety. While there are many different themes and melodies, from "Over the rainbow," to "We're off to see the wizard," to the unforgettable theme of the Wicked Witch of the West, they all eventually tie in together, and apply to the whole movie. Each scene has its own music, and therefore its own mood, and identity, but is also somewhat similar to others. For example, as Dorothy discovers each of her new friends, in turn, the song alters just a bit. It changes from "if I only had a brain", to "if I only had a heart", and then the same for "the nerve". The quartet also sings many songs, such as "We're off to see the wizard" in many different scenes, though it is essentially the same song.
All in all, the Wizard of Oz is an excellent movie, on of the best ever in my opinion. The joyous music and life lessons that it brings can do nothing but make one smile, unless of course you were afraid of the flying monkeys. With the expert cast, headed by the talented Judy Garland, an amazing display of Technicolor, unforgettable music, and four loyal companions, the Wizard of Oz is rightfully one of the most beloved movies of all time.
- we had the movie at one point, but it was lost. my kids love the movie and watch it all the time.
- this is a wonderful film and i like it alot, the only thing to complain about is there is alot of singing!! but other then that, it has such beautiful color when Dorathy first steps out of her house, into OZ.
- collectible queen removed my money for this purchase over a month ago, but never sent my movie. I sent her an email the day after the last possible arrival date, and never got a reply. When I contacted amazon, I was told I had to wait even longer to file a claim. The email even implied that I was somehow at fault because I didn't look at her reviews. When I did, I saw that she has done this to several other people. I don't understand why amazon continues to allow her to rip off their customers. I will probably never order from amazon again.

5 comments about Men in Black (+ BD Live) [Blu-ray].
- I would rate this as a 4 out of 5 as far the the Blu-ray picture quality goes and also 4 out of 5 for audio.
There are a few scenes where grain in the sky is very apparent, but most of the picture is a very reasonable quality.
I won't bother mentioning the film, as many reviewers already have. Overall, this is a great movie and if you are thinking of upgrading your DVD to Blu-ray, it's well worth it.
- This movie is just hilarious from start to finish and it has great replayablity so it is definitely worth the purchase. Also, if you are a fan of the movie, the deluxe version is worth the buy because there is a great amount of extras that are fun to watch.
- I had forgotten this movie was so funny and good. Well executed. Good SFX. My boys loved it too.
And BD-Live. Yes, admittedly a little slow to load but fun. A lot of potential there. How about downloading official subtitles that are not on the blu-ray? This is the future!
- Great movie for the whole family. If you haven't already seem this one then you might want to get it.
There is also Men in Black II that will keep the fun going. I hear that they are in the planning to do a third movie. I'll be there for this one too, only hope that it is as good as the first two.
- Men In Black is one of my favorite movies. I have both the Blu Ray and regular DVD versions. I use an LG Blu Ray player that "up converts" regular DVD's and frankly speaking, there is not that much of a difference in video (Samsung HDTV)and sound (Bose 321). The Blu Ray version has a slight "edge".

5 comments about Michael.
- This is touching movie will melt your heart ad touch your soul!!! See John Travolta in a different role.
- Great viewing and quality movie.MichaelArrived safely in Australia and played well even though we are region 4
- One of the only movies I've ever purchased. The story is enjoyable and uplifting. Everyone is cast perfectly...even the dog.
- I first saw this movie years ago and had the opportunity to buy it recently. I have to say this is one of the best movies I've seen. John Travola plays the part of an ArchAngel. He definetly doesn't fit the "typical" view of an angel. The story is sad and funny and has some very poingant moments. There are also lessons being taught in the movie. I've watched it twice in the last few weeks and each time I pick up things that I've missed the first time around.
- I was especially moved by the short, but obviously meaningful relationship between Michael (Travolta) and the adorable server Anita (played by the boundlessly adorable Joey Lauren Adams). When Anita came out of the hotel room happily dancing in the early morning sun, it seemed as if something much more than sex - something wonderful and life-changing - had happened to her during her night with Michael. It was a very sweet moment in a terrific film.

5 comments about The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition).
- Item shipped in a timely manner and packaged well against damage. Love the LOTR series and this is a welcome addition to my collection.
- I sat trying to think of a cool, witty, or flashy title for this review, but I couldn`t think of one good enough for the movie. All of them fell short of it`s wonder. The plot, actors, and screenwriting of This movie left me gasping. So even if you have to settle for a lame review title afterwards, please see this movie.
- I would definitely recommend this product to anyone. Perfect product, exactly like description. Got here right on time.
- I love The Return of the King a lot better than the theatrical version, because a lot of really awesome things were left out, like Saruman's cameo, more battle sequences, and a more overall satisfaction to the trilogy! It it extremely long, 250 minutes! If you need to know the story, here's my version; The film begins with how Smeagol became Gollum. Later, we see Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and King Theoden heading to Isengard to get information out of Saruman. At Rohan, Pippin sees in the Palantir that Sauron wants to strike at Minas Tirith. Gandalf and Pippin travel there to warn them. Meanwhile, Frodo, Sam, and Gollum continue their journey even closer to Mordor, where Gollum has a trap waiting for them. All the war scenes and beautiful scenery are awesome! If you love epics, wars, and fantasies, you'll love THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING!!!
- I did not think they could suscessfully make a flim of this story without it being a shambles. I was very happy to learn I was wrong they did an outstanding job with special effects as well as the tale told in the movie by staying on task with what needed to be included and triming what could be taken out.

5 comments about The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection - The Essentials (Manos, the Hands of Fate / Santa Claus Conquers the Martians).
- It's that time once again, faithful readers. Time to stop attacking the wretched dross available on this site and embrace the very best things that makes The Curmudgeon NOT wish hot, burning death on everyone on the planet. In short - its a time of celebration. And hey - YOU'RE invited.
It was a total fluke that I happened to see this show.
Back when MST3K was on the air, the only place to see it was in America. This was back in the time when the net wasn't invented, we ate what we killed ourselves and people used to have sex with monkeys. Probably. Dark days, my friends.
So it was only on a "vacation", as you space age yanks say, to America that I discovered the wonder, the sheer unadulterated joy that is Mystery Science Theater 3000. A show that does two pretty amazing things; it effortlessly glides past its shoe-string budget, creating lovable, fun characters from hunks of plastic but it also makes watching the worst movies imaginable into 90 of the best minutes of your day.
As is the case with, say, The Simpsons and such, I'm not actually reviewing this DVD itself, more the overall show (although both these episodes are hilarious, even if Manos had appeared on an earlier boxset). So while the very, very first episodes were quite hard to sit through, with some poor jokes, dodgy voices and loooong gaps in between talking, MST3K hit a stride fairly early on in its run and the quality didn't let up right till the end.
For those who don't know what this show is (and trust me, 99% of the UK seems to have never heard of it - certainly anyone I ever met), its premise is fiendishly simple; an average Joe (or Joel, and in later seasons Mike) is blasted into space by mad scientists to watch terrible B-movies while they scan his brain. Joel creates some robots to watch the movies with him and keep him company, and they, as indeed, do we, proceed to sit and watch the entire film, with only their wisecracks to keep us from gouging out our eyes instead of watching the film.
It sounds like a show that would quickly run out of steam. How many gags can you get out of watching old movies? Well, its down to the genius writing and perfect delivery of Joel, Mike (I always preferred Mike, to be honest), Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot that kept the show fresh, funny, endlessly quotable and even at over 90 minutes at a time, often without a dragging moment.
Yes, some episodes were better than others, but that was often down to the choice of film than the choice of gags. There are some truly side-splitting episodes that demand repeat viewing, with constant inspired, surreal riffs that just seem to flow from the crew. It never feels scripted or pre-determined. Every gag sounds off the cuff. Never before have bad movies turned into solid GOLD television.
MST3K suffered more than most TV shows. In fact, it bore the brunt of most things that either make a show "jump the shark" or kill it completely. Different writers, different voice actors for the robots, different mad scientists, change of station, different lead star - you name it, the MST3K crew faced it, dealt with it and kept on coming up with the goods. In today's age of shows being cancelled half way through a series for no real reason (hello, Bionic Woman) its nothing less than a triumph.
Sadly, a lot of these episodes (the show ran for 10 years) will probably never see the official light of day due to copyright issues, so its more reason to cherish the episodes that have made it through.
For those that actually LOVE old, corny films (like the MST3K crew do), its a treat. For those that just love hearing the most hilarious running commentary on bad movies, it's an absolute blast. MST3K really did offer something new from something old. To watch it is to love it.
And that, good reader, is Part Three in my list of the great and the good. But what could possibly be up next? Only one way to find out..
- Just the way we remember the series when it was still in production.
Funny, witty, classic commentary by the "bots".
- Two classic stinker movies made watchable by Joel, Mike, Tom, and Crow. "Manos" is truly awful with the whole movie being re-dubbed (I encourage you to read IMDB.com's Trivia section on this movie). "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" is only a few steps lower on the bad movie scale because it had a higher production value. So just sit back and watch the crew slice these movies up. The "Poopie" blooper section also has some great outtakes.
- I was a die-hard fan of this show back in the day. I ordered this to introduce my 11-year old son to the series. He is now a fan too. Sooo funny!!
- Have to agree with most reviewers that 'Santa Claus' is worth the price of the box. 'Manos' is indeed awful, so badly photographed, badly paced, and just plain off, it creates a black hole of badness from which little humor can escape - though the MST crew give it a credible try, and do produce some laugh-out-loud moments. The director of 'Manos' must have been a silent movie buff, as there are many scenes and settings evocative of 1920s films (and the sound is about as good). 'Santa Claus' on the other hand is campy-bad, and the boys make the most of it. Recommended.

5 comments about Pee Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special.
- WOW! It's been a while since I have seen this on prime time television in 1988. I will admitted this is just plain stupid Chrismas fun but I enjoyed this immensely! Pee Wee Herman and a host of great stars including Cher, Oprah Winfrey, k.d.lang,Whoop Goldberg, Grace Jones, Frankie and Annette and the whole Playhouse gang! This is a delightful holiday special with the insane humor the series was known for. Thanks for finally put it on DVD!!!!
- I was thrilled to finally find this available for purchase!! We recorded this on VHS when originally shown on television. But tapes get old and now the boys are grown and the poor tape was getting passed around every Christmas. I immediately bought four copies and it is exactly (though, of course, minus the '80s commercials-awwwww)just like the original network showing. Pure PeeWee, pure camp. Thanks! I love it!!
- i love pee-wees playhouse and had to have this. it's pretty ridiculous and will probably be used as background entertainment at future christmas parties... sitting down to watch it once was enough. My favorite part might have to be kd langs performance, it was a perfectly psychotic song & dance routine (while wearing a dress!!) i was actually embarrassed for her.
- My sister laughed at me for even buying this, but before we knew it, we were watching and reminiscing and having a great time. Watching this Christmas special brought me back to all those Saturday mornings as a child, watching Pee-Wee's Playhouse.
There are so many celebrities on this show. I think my favorites were Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, and Little Richard.
Bottom line: Very cheesy, but if you were a fan of Pee-Wee growing up, you will not want to miss out on this!
- I used to watch this movie every Christmas with my family. We had lost the tape a few years ago, and when I found this dvd we started the tradition once again.

5 comments about Event Horizon (Two-Disc Special Collector's Edition).
- This is a great film which is not worthy of the a lot of the bad reviews that it has gotten here. It's an excellent blend of science fiction and traditional horror fantasy that provides a tense atmosphere that holds up throughout the entire movie. It rarely shows you the "why", rather showing you the aftermath of what has happened which is a main part of the story and of good film making. You are never shown what has happened to the ship, only explained here and there and then are left to let your imagination take over from there which is where the most horrific monsters reside. As for the blood, there are some gruesome scenes in this movie, but it definitely doesn't cross any lines as such movies as Hostel or Hellraiser. Most of the time these scenes are quick and only show the reactions of the characters, again leaving your mind to do the rest. The sets add a lot to this atmosphere, though sometimes they look almost alien which does add a horrific feel to the movie but makes you wonder if humans actually made this ship and if they did why did they design it that way.
This story, though with it's flaws, is good and has given birth to other, newer Hollywood blockbusters. The idea of bending time and space was reused 10 years later in Deja Vu with Denzel Washington, the entire framework of this story was reused in Sunshine. It definitely has a lot going for it. Though with all it's potential you have to ask yourself why or how things are happening at some point, and that's where the story breaks down. I can assume certain things happen because of otherworldly things, but some of the things that happen in this movie defy that. These moments don't happen a lot though. I also thought some of the acting, specifically by the character Cooper, was cheesy and out of place. Luckily, a majority of the acting was good.
All said, it's a great movie to watch and now that it's about 10 dollars for a two-disc set you can't go wrong.
- I am writing this review from the UK. Hoping that we either get this released here in England or that the US version will be region free...
This is one of the best Sci FI Horror Movies of all time... It has such a mood to it, and is genuinely scary. I just hope they have remastered it to give it a great Blu-Ray transfer.
- If you folded space to where point A (your current location) and point B (your desired destination) are within a few thousand miles instead of light years apart and, then, made the jump between space...well, what would you pass through? I'm no physicist but I found that question a very interesting part of the story behind this movie. This movie has a creepiness factor that makes it more of a horror instead of science fiction. This movie is unexpected. I first rented it about 10 years ago and instantly decided to purchase it when I noticed it on Amazon. I can't give it five stars because I'm not entirely sold on the casting for the movie but it works.
- When I first saw the movie in theaters, I was disappointed by it after being hyped up by various movie sites and magazines. I was waiting for this one with bated breath and when I finally saw it, I was simply let down. It didn't really do it for me for various reasons, the main one being that the film felt somewhat mangled, as if they cut out all the gore that had been promised and excised what were probably important parts of the plot as well.
Recently, my girlfriend reintroduced it to me and upon watching it again, I came to realize that this flick is pretty decent and has a lot more going for it than I initially thought. It's not the greatest horror movie ever and still has a few weak points that keep it from being so but it's certainly entertaining and definitely disturbing, to say the least. Some of the imagery in this film kind of sticks in your head and the film has a great look to it, with pretty decent production design work.
This 2-disc dvd is under $5 and what you get for that little bit of cash is worth much more than that. There's a really good documentary on the second disc that is over two hours long and covers a lot of ground on the film's making, also going into the specifics of the film and why it was so badly received upon its release. I think that I appreciate the film even more now after watching it and it provides fans with probably the most definitive word on it, other than the director commentary on the film which is available here as well. There were rumors of an extended cut that reinstated plot points and even more blood and gore but it doesn't look like its ever gonna happen for reasons that are explained in the documentary. A sad thing, as I know many people were excited about the prospects of such a cut, myself included.
The film is presented much more cleanly than in the featureless single disc DVD that was released a few years ago and also has an option for DTS Surround, so no complaints there. The DVD also contains a couple of deleted scenes and featurettes, all entertaining for the few minutes that they run.
Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill alone are worth watching the movie for and both turn in solid performances and while the film isn't necessarily jump out of your seat scary, its more of the crawling feeling underneath your skin scary. Like I said before, this isn't the greatest horror movie in the world but its more than passable and well worth a look if you enjoy horror movies* and never got to catch this one.
(*On a side note, anyone who likes this film should check out the videogame Dead Space as the film definitely influenced that game in a number of ways and believe it or not, is pretty scary in itself.)
- Just what I was promised from Amazon and could not find this even at Blockbuster or Wal Mart.

5 comments about Star Trek The Original Series - The Complete Second Season (Remastered).
- The discs themselves are in great condition. The box however was broken so doesn't work as expected.
- If your a fan of Star Trek, this is a must have for your collection!
The remastered scenes are done with a lot of care and do not change the
flow of the original story. Great way to get new fans to watch,
and give old fans a little something new to see.
- This supplier sent item at breathtaking speed. Extradionary Service.
5 Stars are not enough to express my delight. Perhaps 8 stars.
- Given that this is obviously the issue before the Blu-Ray version, perhaps it should come packaged in a red shirt. For those of us who resist the HD charms to come, this is fine, though the extras on the first issue should have been included. Of the three seasons, this is the most stable without the lows of the other two (when it could sink to "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" level, as in "Spock's Brain", the ludicrous first episode of season three, or the standard space monster plot of the very first broadcast) and with several very good episodes. The acting relationships were well established, and the cast secure in their jobs, so they could riff on each other and Shatner could show some humor, though his opinion of his own acting as revealed in the better image is, well, over the top. He is always one of those actors who wears his ego on his sleeve. Roddenberry would have certainly done the better space effects here if he could have afforded them at the time, whether or not he would have wanted the specific choices made (relative to the material, those shots for instance of the circling vehicles in "Tribbles" are nifty). They do invite comparisons for the series to more recent sci-fi productions which on a technical level it can't win, so it's a trade-off. As if your childhood lunches were retroactively made with home baked organic bread; you're a half-inch taller so it's better but you remember and miss the memory of the Wonder Bread all the same.
One unmixed improvement is the colors - which are fauvistically vibrant in many scenes, with very imaginative lighting, very Jack Kirby primary colors used in bold patterns. Like hearing remastered Rolling Stones singles in mono, they didn't ever come through the broadcast channels like this. At this point, there's not a lot to discover in these stories if you grew up with them, but if you want to relive it it's done well. "Star Trek" was the Grimm's fairy tales of the boomer generation. The packing is visually fun but the packaging engineer is no Scotty, mallomars are more carefully enclosed. Given the price (though it's down from the last issue) it could be more ergonomically sound. That thin piece of floppy squared off plastic that slides around the plain multi-disk pack is doomed to die on a lonely planet just before the second commercial.
- It is indeed poor business practice for Paramount to abandon the HD-DVD version of this series, as, for some of us, it was the only reason we bought the HD-DVD players in the first place. I'm sure it would look much better in HD.
Agree with others that the package is not so good either. The hinge and latch are hard to close, especially if the discs aren't perfectly placed in the case.
I'm glad they went to the trouble to remaster them. It's just too bad you can't really enjoy the better master quality in HD.

5 comments about Labyrinth.
- This is pure 1986, as both the dated David Bowie soundtrack and the primitive special effects will reveal. The story line is simple, and there are no scary parts. Good for kids, I guess. I never saw this when it came out. It seems to appeal mostly to people who were growing up in the 80s. If you didn't, you might skip this.
- The DVD arrived promptly in very good condition. We enjoyed watching this movie very much and it made me feel like I was 5 years old again!
- I purchased Labyrinth when it first came out, as a video tape. I have always been a David Bowie fan, and wanted to see him in this role. I still consider it to be a timeless classic. I already owned the music from the movie, which is wonderful, as well as the DVD. I wanted this anniversary edition because it contained more interviews about the movie.
David Bowie shines as the not so evil Goblin King Jareth. He is an unhappy guy, who has fallen in love with a human teenager, Sarah, who is played by Jennifer Connelly. When his goblin co-horts steal Toby, Sarah's baby brother, Jareth is forced to confront Sarah, and offers to give her back her brother, if she completes his labyrinth within 13 hours.
Sarah agrees to the challenge, and enters the world of the Labyrinth, an enchanted place where nothing is quite what it seems. There is adolescent/adult humor, but even children love the characters.
Sarah meets Jareth at a time in her life when she is not yet a woman, but not a child. Her world stinks, and she is often left alone by her Father and Stepmother to baby-sit her baby brother. She is troubled, and Jareth senses that and uses it to try to coax Sarah to stay with him. He even offers to give her all of her dreams if only she will let him rule her. She is a good role model for teenage girls.
My favorite scene in the movie is a dream segment, in which Sarah and Jareth attend a ball. It is beautifully done, and expresses what every young woman dreams about...a handsome King who sweeps you away to his castle, and falls in love with you.
The film is filled with David Bowie's songs, which are great. My young grandson likes to dance along with the baby in the movie to the song "magic dance." This movie might be a little bit intense for some children under the age of 8. My daughters loved this movie from the time they were about 10 years old. I still watch this about once a week, and even have it loaded on my ipod!
If you want a move to watch that you can share with your kids and still enjoy, this may be the one for you! Add the interviews and behind the scenes video, and it is well worth owning!
- This was one of my favorite movies as a child. In my experience, those who have not seen this movie as a child may not enjoy it. But for me, this movie never gets old!!!
- I loved this movie as a kid! David Bowie is awesome and the characters and music are spectacular. 5 stars!

- This release assembles the individual weekly bits of a Doctor Who animated adventure originally broadcast on a BBC Children's activity show based around the BBC TV Show "Doctor Who" in 2006-7. It's the first time it's been available here in the U.S.
As such, it is episodic, and juvenile, rather thin on plot and fairly transparent for adult viewers. But the under-12 set will love it, and it's entertaining enough for adults, provided you're already a fan of the revamped BBC TV Series.
Non-essential Whovian programming if you're not a completist, but perfect for family viewing. Four out of five stars.
- BBC america shop needs to thanked for bringing this out in this region.
At first there was some doubt wether we would ever see this dvd available here. Many fans went to the bbc america shop website and recommended this and it made a difference. This is a fun cartoon adventure for the whole family which is worth buying and adding to your doctor who collection. After all the classic doctor who stories and newer doctor who are family friendly too. I would suggest going both to the bbc doctor who site and the bbc america shop site and asking for further unreleased cartoon adventures that are provided from the online doctor who site as well. There is even a cartoon adventure of a version of the doctor played by richard e grant. Anyways if you love doctor who you will enjoy this cartoon version of the newest doctor , and the price is very affordable too.
- Where to start ... well, we have a highly-predictable and rather thin & inane plot. Next we have voice-overs by the actors that sound just like they're reading a script in a studio. Then there is the animation, if we can call it that. I was going to call it Scooby-Doo animation, but even that is much better. Here we have mostly 2D computer animation, punctuated occasionally by some 3D computer animation which does nothing but call attention to how flat and uninvolving the 2D animation is. And the animation, by the way, is very limited and basic. The eyes move from one side to the other, the head moves up & down, the mouth opens and closes, but that's about it. Sure, it's got some nice colors and some interesting character design, but on the whole it comes off as something you'd expect to see on the internet, for free, not something you paid money for. Sort of reminds me of Flash animation. There you go. You have been warned.
