5 comments about The Incredible Hulk - The Complete First Season.
- Back in the late 70's I was just a child already fixated on the power of episodic fantasy television. Even at this early age, shows like Star Trek, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Battlestar Galactica were mandatory viewing. But each of them paled in comparison to probably one of the finest comic book to television adaptations ever, The Incredible Hulk. Overseen by Kenneth Johnson of Six Million/Bionic Woman fame, this weekly show took some of the best aspects from the comic book, and added a few of it's own, to create one of the most well-written and acted shows of it's genre ever. Starring Bill Bixby as the forever-tormented David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the beast of rage trapped inside him, this series about a doctor who searches for a cure to the gamma radiation he inflicted on himself to tap into his inner strengths, but turns him instead into a six and a half foot green monster whenever he gets angry, was so well done, both kids and their parents gathered around their TV sets to enjoy it week after week. Miles ahead in writing than most Sci-Fi series of it's day, this is one show that truly has stood the test of time.
The Complete First Season pretty much sums up Hulk's first ever single-season release. You get all 12 episodes (two of which are two-hour ones being the Pilot and the first airing), plus a bonus episode from Season Two. While most fans have grown up with the reruns or seen them recently on the Sci-Fi Channel, the picture quality is much better here. Granted, print damage of specs and a few lines still exist, it's color spectrum and black levels are spot-on, making this viewing seem almost made recently. Audio hasn't changed with a decent 2.0 mono though. As for the shows themselves, Hulk started out with a bang, but does suffer a tad from "first season jitters". Basically following "The Fugitive" handbook, Hulk basically
keeps the same pattern, with 2 "Hulk-Outs" per episode. But it's the acting that keeps you in. Not hokey or corny like other 70's shows, but with feeling and drama. Sure, the transformations today look terribly dated, but considering what they had to work with, it should be forgiven. The only other extra is a commentary that was previously released from a single disc version of the pilot, but with all 12 shows you won't feel cheated by a lack of them. A great look into a classic Sci-Fi/Action series humble beginnings.
With all the recent Marvel films that have come out over the past ten years, this television chapter should be revisted by all. Minus the hairstyles and clothing, it truly doesn't look aged that much. And I would take an actual actor sprayed green over fakey cartoonish CGI anyday. A worthy addition to your Fantasy/Sci-Fi DVD collection.
-RedSabbath Rating (8.5/10)-
-
The pilot episode and the entire collection of episodes brought back a lot of memories, especially with the opening credits.
- I grew up reading Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and many more Super Hero comics as a kid. When this show first aired, it was a difficult pill to swallow. The story was changed and the Hulk effects were somewhat laughable, but they did get a couple of things right! They cast a very likable Bill Bixby in the lead role as David Banner and the shows had heart! Why they changed Banner's first name from Bruce like in the comic book to David?.....well from what I've heard from Stan Lee is they thought Bruce sounded too...eh....G A Y !!!?? A ridiculous assumption, but TV exec's are a strange brood!
The first season set consist of the first 2 pilot films and all 10 episodes from the first season. It would have been nice to have a few behind the scenes features, but it does have some commentary and bonus episodes which to me are a waste of space as Hulk fans are going to buy all the seasons anyway. The episodes look very clean and complete. I rate it 4 1/2 stars for a quality release.
- I was a little disappointed that there were only 12 episodes in the first season. However, there was added footage, that was originally cut from episodes, that I had never seen before. That made up for it, for me.
- This show of the 70s is one of the greatest I ever saw in my youth.

- What do people mean when they say there wasn't much monster action? There Was plenty of action. Godzilla, Mothra, Manda, And Rodan All Stomp Tokyo. Godzilla and Anguirus Rodan Vs. The space Ship And Some Military. Godzilla, Anguirus, Rodan, Mothra, Minilla, Kumonga, Manda, Varan, Baragon, Gorosaurus Vs. King Ghidorah. It was a cool movie. Get the 50th Anniversary version if you get it.
- Dont get me wrong, it is a ggod movie. However this set is the dubed version DVD no menues and a music CD. Basicly you will be paying extra for the CD because the movie is 10 dollars.
- Some time ago, another distributor released this same disc - IN SCOPE. It was non-anamorphic, but at least it was widescreen.
And now, to celebrate it's 50th Anniversary, it gets another release... IN FULL SCREEN?
And you DARE to give this garbage five stars?
THIS is the version to get. Not perfect, but at least it's widescreen: Destroy All Monsters
- I so glad this made a dvd release. Infact I'm glad when any Godzilla films makes it on dvd. This film is a classic, you get all the monsters you could think of. The effect are excellent for its time. I don't care about any extras, just glad to see the movie on dvd. The sad thing is, you don't see munch Godzilla films on tv anymore. Today on tv you get a bunch of useless crap.
- All godzilla pictures are good for a laugh, except the one made in the US, they were more serious about it.
I remember growing up on The Japanese ones, funny, they seemed better back then, but I supposed we have became more suffisticated with the modern abilities. Godzilla pictures are still good for a good laugh.
Does anyone know why Godzilla 1985 is not available to DVD.

5 comments about The Hollow.
- I actually caught this crapfest on the Sci-Fi channel the other night. That's exactly what it was, a crapfest. I didn't even know I was looking at Nick Carter until I read some of these reviews, which I consider a blessing. No wonder that family has so many problems. And such veteran actors such as Judge Reinhold and Stacy Keach must have been really desperate for cash if they committed to this schlock. And don't even get me started on the headless horseman. He was as about as convincing as a special effect in a cheesy 50's science fiction movie. If you want to see the best version of the story, watch Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. If you want originality, either watch Ichabod and Mr. Toad or read the original story.
- I liked this movie for the reason being that it was a different take on the "Sleepy Hollow" story. The story unfolded in a manner that it held your attention all the way through the movie. The acting was very solid in this B flick as well. I would recommend this movie to anyone that loves B-horror flicks!!!
- The movie gets a 3 but it was fun. However, Nick Carter gets a 10 but you only have a 5
- Clutching desperately at the coattails of Washington Irving's classic tale, "The Hollow" is a modest horror flick that will keep you entertained, either with humor (intentional and unintentional) or a few decent scares. I originally saw this flick on ABC Family about three years ago. It has recently popped up on Sci-Fi channel. It's a lot better than seventy-five percent of Sci-Fi channel's flicks, but does fit comfortably in that channel's Saturday movie lineup. It's cast has a little something for everybody. There's new stars for the younger crowd (Kevin Zegers, Kaley Cuoco), former 80's teen stars (Judge Reinhold), an old guy (Stacey Keach) and a former boy band superstar (Nick Carter).
The story is centered around the return of Ichabod Crane's bloodline (Zegers) to the village of Sleepy Hollow. When Halloween comes along, Zegers moves in on the high school football jock's girlfriend (Cuoco) and quickly makes an enemy out of said jock (Carter). Teenagers go missing, and despite warnings from the cemetary keeper (Keach), the village goes on with it's Halloween Hayride, giving a returning Headless Horseman easy pickings. Keach tries to convince Zegers that he's a descendant of Crane and that the Horseman has returned to finish a job he started many years ago. Initially Zegers denies the possibility of being related to Crane. As the story goes on, however, he begins to realize that he is Crane's descendant and only he can stop the Horseman from going on another killing spree. Heads roll, there are plenty of near-misses, and Carter, Keach and Reinhold really chew up the scenery for the rest of the movie.
When all is said and done, the viewer won't feel entirely cheated by this film. Yes, it has some very bad moments in it, but those moments are what makes this film fun. There are also a few legitimate scares throughout for the audience. You won't be afraid to go roaming down deserted country roads at night after seeing this movie, but you will have a pretty good time seeing just how silly and spooky this film can be. I'd consider it a rental, especially around Halloween, if you prefer your horror a little bit on the light side. If you can find it in the bargain bin and happen to be a fan of B-grade horror, this just might be a fun purchase.
- This is a recent remake of the sleep hollow. It was maybe back in 2004. I think it's scarier because it was done like Jaws where the first half of the movie you don't see the whole horse man. A couple days befor hallowen the headless horse man rises from the depths of hell seeking out heads. The main charcater is told by a old gate keeper that he is a living decented of Icbob crane and the horse man had rise from the deaths of hell to hunt him down and kill him. He doesn't belive him but when two of his collge friends msyteriously dissapear he begins to fear that the horse men is not a legend the horseman is fact. Can he figure out the horseman's weakness and send him back to hall before every person in the town is decapated to the verge of oblivion. Find out in thrilling epic conclusion as the main character challanges the horse man to and old fasten mid evil duel right in the middle of sleepy hollow. This movie should be fine for people ages 17 to 105 due to brief occasional scary images and a few brief scens with adult sexual content. Will the headless horseman be defeated sent back to the abyss where he belongs only way to find out check this out from your local blockbuster or check your local scifi channel if you can find out the brodcasting times. I am combining this review with one for Ritiki mTavi and yanke dooddel cricket because I'm not sure if my original review from about two years ago could be deleted and replace with on for this year. Riki Tiki tavi tells the story of a moongose who is adopted by a britist family after he is washed out of his burrow deep in the jungles of India. This was animated by chuck jone who ten years later would make a brief camo appearance in the movie gremlins or so the commentary claims he was in it. Riki Tiki must protect his family from two evil cobra called Naga and Nagina will he prevent there diabolical scheme to murder the family that took him in after his home was destroyed. Find out in the thrilling conclusion This has another movie on it Yanbke doudle cricket but I have to got to class so will have to cover that on a fute review of Riki Tiki Tavi This is slagar the cruel over and out.

- The same thrills and chills you get when you're alone and you thought you heard something and you're getting scared then all of a sudden the cat, dog or someone startles you from behind, then after getting your wits scared out of you, you feel silly but kinda of enjoyed it anyway. This is that movie. It's fun and harmless and kids specially girls under the age of 15 enjoy watching it with their friends because its innocent fun. Michelle Pfiffer(I didn't realized how many f's shes got in her surname) is convincingly terrified specially after she started to suspect her husband Norman might be capable of the ultimate human crime. Everyone will root for her all the while hating the Harrison Ford character and cheering each blow to his face as Claire tries to get away. If you like the suspense that Hitchook builds on, this movie is definetely for you, but there are no DVD extras which is always why I drop a star no matter how good the movie is. That's part of the fun of buying/owning the DVD in the first place.
- It is rats in the attic or termites in the timbers ( bats in the bell free
or bugs in your hat?), but never, never real spirits? Seeing the head doctor
and fighting off the men in white coats, people believe in their lonesome fantasy of dead people walking? Is it the neighbor's dead wife or something more sinister? It seems to be a plum role for Michelle Pfeiffer?
Harrison Ford is kind of the straight man to the bent housewife
with delusions that aren't...MEF and possession.
From there things go from bad to worse.
Well made, well acted, just not the kind of movie I like.
I've watched it twice to make this review.
- This is one of the better movies made recently in this genre. It's more of a supernatural-suspense movie than horror. Michele Pfeifer is great as the empty-nested mother who becomes spooked by strange occurences. Is something happening to her or is she going crazy? Either one is an option. It was a good movie with a rather surprise ending. If your looking for something gory or something to jump out at you this isn't the movie for you. Rather it is a very well made, well acted atmospheric movie.
- I had watched this movie many times before purchasing this copy! I wanted my own copy in order to watch it many times more without having to rent. The copy sent to me was in excellent condition and I have watched it twice since receiving it. I always jump in the scary scenes, even though I know what is going to happen!
- I have to begin by saying that this is one of my all time favorite movies. You are a Hitchcock fan then you will love this movie. It has the same feel of a Hitchcock movie but with modern technology. The acting is wonderful and no matter how many times I watch it I always find something I didn't notice before. It's an excellent film and will make an excellent addition to anyone's film collection.

5 comments about Blacula.
- I certainly wasn't scared. This movie was so cheesy, it was funny. So at least I had a good laugh. William Marshall was a great actor and it's a shame you don't see many actors like him around anywmore.
- One of the most odd but yet, awesome in mind, vampire films out there today. Marshall portrays a very cool hip vamp, but, don't let it fool you, cause it can cause a wonderful great scare as well. This movie, brought back some great memories of my youth and i truly highly recommended it very much.
- Being a big fan of classic and modern vampire films, i was a bit skeptical about Blacula when i first heard about it. After watching it, i can say it is one of the better "Vampire in modern times" films. William Marshal plays the creepy count, who, in another life was tricked by the real count Dracula and sentenced to live for eternity with the curse, and i quote"..I curse you with my name, you will be know as...BLACULA"! The film, released back in 1972 was at the time, pretty daring for the horror venue, but it did draw some crowds and has today become a cult classic. Marshall has poise, charm and sophistication and plays the count with gracefull ease. It has it's scary moments and action as well. I enjoyed it and i'm sure that if you are a fan of Vampire films, so will you! And don't forget the sequel...."Scream, Blacula, Scream", also played by marshall....His bite is outta site! Great movie!!
- In 1972, when I was a child, I saw the trailer for "Blacula" at the theatre and always wanted to see it. Years later, I finally have and was not disappointed. I don't care if it's considered a "blaxploitation" film. It is merely a horror movie with characters who are primarily African-American. Count Dracula's depiction as a racist was a great idea; it is not farfetched considering that he has little respect for human life. Prince Mamuwalde begs Dracula to help him end the slave trade. Instead, Dracula curses him with vampirism and gives him a new name; the prince of darkness wants Prince Mamuwalde to be a "black version" of himself, thus he deems him "Blacula." I don't care for the name myself. It sounds racist and Dracula must've intended it to be that way. Mamuwalde is released from his coffin with an incredible hunger that he can't control. He makes a meal out of two gay interior decorators and the nightmare begins. Soon the vampires are multiplying in L.A, threatening to become an epidemic. (This reminds me of Stephen King's "Salem's Lot," which involves an entire town infested with vampirism.) If the police don't act fast, a plague of vampires will overcome L.A. This fast-paced movie has a great deal of action from beginning to end, and a high body count. The acting is good; the cast is composed of attractive African-Americans who were popular in the seventies. The vampires in this movie are extremely ghoulish and grotesque. They gave me the creeps. Some of those vampire women had fangs that would have shamed a sabre tooth tiger. They were long!! The movie also a strong romantic element. Mamuwalde is pursuing a beautiful, young woman who reminds him of his deceased wife. If only that meddlesome coroner wasn't getting in the way. My favorite scene: When the coroner and the police are tricked into going into a warehouse where they are trapped and beset upon by numerous vampires that are simply hideous. "Blacula" would be fun to watch as a double feature with "Dracula A.D. 1972." Both have a lot of hippie music and slang. "Blacula" is a welcomed addition to anyone's collection of vampire movies or Hammer films. I would've given it five stars if not for the overuse of certain prejudice terms that may have been appropriate for the seventies but are considered rude and offensive today.
- I've always enjoyed this movie, and pull it out to watch every few years! Enjoyable from start to finish EVERY TIME!! But as I watched it the other night, I had to cringe at the frequent use of the word "FA*GOT" when refering to a couple gay characters, and the N-word tossed about liberally. (I guess those were the times, but I've always found it ironic that one culture- so incensed by name-calling, would so casually refer to another group of people by an equally offensive term.) But what the hell??? BLACULA is an awesome movie!!!

4 comments about Dark Shadows: The Beginning, Vol. 5.
- This boxed set from the iconic Classic TV soap opera Dark Shadows represents the next to the last set of episodes before the fabled appearance of 175-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins.
MPI Home Video should be congratulated for continuing to release these less familiar and seldom seen episodes onto DVD.
In this boxed set, containing 35 episodes that first aired in 1967, the first-ever seance in soap opera history is held! Seances and other supernatural events became a staple of this unique soap opera throughout the remainder of the fantastic series.
The Collins family is continuing to cope with the unexpected return of Roger Collins' wife, Laura Murdock Radcliff Collins, whose presence becomes even more mysterious, supernatural and - very dangerous.
Roger (Louis Edmonds) had told his young son David (David Henesy) that his mother was dead, but she had actually suffered a mental breakdown and was confined in sanitarium. Since being released, she apparently had been living in Phoenix, Ariz., unbeknownst to the Collins family.
Without warning, Laura (Diana Millay) returned to Collinwood and demanded full custody of her son. Roger's sister, Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Joan Bennett) steadfastly refused, and was inexplicably stricken by what appears to be a trance. The family also learns that a woman, identified AS Laura Collins, was found burned to death in Laura's apartment in Phoenix three days prior to Laura's arrival at Collinwood.
Victoria Winters (Alexandra Moltke), Collinwood governess, becomes so uneasy about the frightening events surrounding Laura that she decides to do everything in her power to prevent David from seeing his mother. She joins forces with Dr. Peter Guthrie (John Lasell), a psychic investigator, who has come to Collinwood to investigate these odd occurrences.
In this boxed set, artist Sam Evans (David Ford) continues to be tormented and compelled to paint the beautiful Laura in a setting surrounded by flames - with young David by her side. Laura threatens Sam, saying she would ensure that he'd never paint again if he didn't stop and destroy the painting of her and David. Soon after, Sam falls asleep, dreams of Laura's eyes, then awakens to find real flames in front of him. He reaches to put out the fire and badly burns his hands. On the other side of the room completely away from the fire, the portrait of Laura and David has been burned through!
In an attempt to find more out about Laura, Victoria and Guthrie hold the seance to contact the ghost of Josette Collins, who has helped members of the Collins for more than 100 years.
Bonuses include interviews with Millay, writers Ron Sproat and Malcolm Marmorstein, and author/horror expert Leonard Wolf.
These early black and white episodes take place prior to the arrival of the reluctant vampire, played by the gifted Jonathan Frid. Frid joined the cast at Episode 211, which first aired 04/18/67. Almost immediately, the show skyrocketed to international iconic status. Many fans who began watching once Barnabas became a fixture on the show, never saw these early episodes, or when they were syndicated for a short time.
- This was way better than I expected! Really got me hooked. Can't wait for the next collection to come out! The phoenix lady rocks!
- Although this is part of the series nearly led to its early demise, any Dark Shadows fan especially those of us in our 50's who have been collecting the after Barnabas CD's will enjoy these episodes. It is an excellent introduction to the charactors, a great example of early TV production and a perfect preface for the episodes that follow.
- In this volume of the cult classic, Dark Shadows started to find success by making its new supernatural elements more intricate. A missing corpse, a psychic investigator, seances, ghosts, and a touch of the absurd all help to create the best volume of the series to date. Diana Millay's Laura character takes center stage as the charming and single-minded supernatural creature with a wide array of powers that she takes great pleasure in using to get her own way. Surprisingly dark and creepy for daytime TV--no wonder it stood out amidst the other soaps.

5 comments about Terror Train.
- My reviews of slasher films probably make one think I must have worked on these films...actually no, but I have written, produced and directed 15 independent low budget horror films.
I have an affinity for the slasher genre, especially the early 80's when horror was at it's best.
Terror Train's plot is as simple as most slasher films, but yet it remains towards the top of my slasher favorites for a number of reasons:
Jamie Lee Curtis is great as the heroine of the film, the kills are inventive and effective, the pace of the story moves quickly and the camera-work and score really highlight this film.
Another nice thing is that the killer uses a lot of trickery and he becomes almost omni-present at times. The beginning of the film sets the tone and the cruel prank that is played is actually quite gruesome, which mentally disturbes young Kenny and scars him for life. I can understand why.
Now Kenny is a bit older and much more devious as he sneaks onto the train, getting revenge on those who wronged him. This is a standard horror plot. I've even used it in one of my films, but it's the approach that makes Terror train unique.
I recommend this to slasher film fans!
- This film can withstand repeated viewings even by the most scrutinizing horror film fanatics. Upon first watching it in the eighties, it left an impression on me. Since then, I dust it off and view it every so often, always finding something different that I didn't notice before. It has lost its gloss over time, but it really exemplifies a period in horror film production that can't be ignored. Of course, Jamie Lee Curtis is there to give it star power. But beyond that, the claustrophobic train and the Hitchcockian themes lend itself to a nice engaging mystery. And the ending is a real surprise. If you are over-saturated with "Halloweens" and "Friday the 13ths", this serves as a nice diversion.
- This film is a must-have for any horror film collector. Nail-biting suspense film that delivers without all the typical blood & gore of films of its genre.
I'd initially seen this at the cinema when it was first released & consider it one of the finest ever made! The atmosphere is eerie & creepy. The perfect setting for this film & its plot. I wonder whatever became of Derek McKinnon & what he looks like today. He portrayed his part well, as had most of the cast. I strongly recommend seeing this film to others.
- I loved the idea of the movie and a review sold me on the movie, so I bought it. I taped the movie while it was playing on a movie network but I never got around to watch it and taped over it. Anyways, loved the idea of the movie as I said. The original art work to the movie was better, I think they just put Jamie Lee Curtis on it so they could help sell the movie. The movie was decent but it was boring at times and the killings weren't all that great. If you love Curtis in horror films then you might check this movie out, its not the worst movie she's ever done. If your a causal horror fan then you might still want to check it out because it is better then the horror movies they put out today. I think when done right someone could remake this movie and make it a classic.
- A college fraternaty prank goes wrong and a student ends up mentaly fustrated. Four years later, it's graduation time, and the members of the fraternity decide to throw a costume party aboard a train trip to celebrate thier graduation. Unknowingly to them, a killer has slipped aboard, killing them off one by one, disguised in costumes taken from victims. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, David Copperfield and Ben Johnson, this 1980 Slasher is a must have in any Horror Collection.

5 comments about Aeon Flux (Special Collector's Edition).
- Superb special effects with Charlize Theron! An action packed futuristic thriller not to be missed. By the way, Charlize looks good in her outfits
which earns this movie an extra star!
This is a five star movie!
- As one esteemed critic so aptly put it, "Fux fux sux fux sux sux sux".
The animated series that appeared on Liquid Television was cool, especially for it's time. Liquid Television was a good show bringing viewers highly original and entertaining animation. As for the movie, in my opinion they completely blew it. Charlize Theron is talented but wasn't at all right for the part. I thought Carrie-Anne Moss would have been better. The movie wasn't at all like the TV show. The creator of Aeon Flux said upon seeing the movie he "felt helpless, humiliated and sad". They should have stayed true to the TV series and Peter Chung should have had creative input.
- Um... is it just me or did this storyline borrow HEAVILY from John Boorman's 1975 Zardoz starring Sean Connery in one of his early post-Bond movies? Similarities:
* Isolated outpost created by scientists that is protected from "nature"
* People who live forever who are having mental issues (recycled clones in Flux)
* Sterility issues in the population
* A scientist manipulating the actions of an individual with a talent for extreme violence in an effort to take down the status quo (the old guy in the blimp thingy. In Zardoz it was a scientist in a flying stone idol (that looks remarkably like Janus) trying to find just the right guy (Connery - "Seth" if I recall correctly) among a bunch of savages to do the deed.
I mean, it isn't an out and out rip off, but the story certainly seems to borrow heavily from Zardoz - also a very weird film that seems to lack cohesion.
- Better than the Cartoon and she looks hot. Did not particularly like the story line/Ending but to each his own.
- there is nothing good about this movie. we have heard the plot before. the acting is some of the worst i have ever seen. the outfits are wrong and it is filmed so badly that i do not care what happens to the rest of the human race. i think a lot of my problems with the movie was casting. theron was a horrible pick for the role. very dissapointed.

5 comments about Halloween (Two-Disc Special Edition).
- The opening of the film is clever and deals with the events leading up to Michael's first murder. I was very happy with the back story of Michael Myers & how brutal his life was & you could almost see day by day how he was driven to kill almost his entire family.
Minor details that were simply Rob Zombie's way of putting his mark on the film include a white trash family that Michael allegedly comes from (even though in the original his mother and father seem to be pretty straight-laced, almost nerdy, people) and the fact that his mother is a stripper. Dr. Loomis is introduced early on, in the film, at Michael's school after some questionable things he done. I just feel that there was enough of a set up in the original John Carpenter film for Zombie to build off of, without going and adding the trashy nature of Michael's family and sympathy we are supposed to feel for him. On top of that it was great to see inside Smith Grove as well - Dr Loomis was far better in this version - although the original is a classic this version had a lot more depth & rather intense ending.
Now, even though the film begins in 1963 and then flashes forward 15 years to the night Michael escapes and returns to Haddonfield. Why, then, do the characters have cell phones and are there 1993 Ford Mustangs along the streets of Haddonfield? To me, this just makes the film seem sloppy and badly imagined. If you are going to take the time to "re-imagine" a film that is as iconic and famous as Halloween, these should be obvious things to deal with.
The "chase" scenes are well staged and Zombie throws in some decent scenarios not found in the original. The climax is an entertaining combination of classic 80's style horror where you are screaming at the female lead for being so dense and modern horror grisliness where you feel sick to your stomach after enduring it.
This film did go well with me and my biggest complaint, however, is with the sloppiness of the time difference in events. Aside from that Zombie's "Halloween" is a calculated gamble to add to these sequels, and it does pay off in the end, "Halloween" is perfectly watchable for any horror buffs so if you haven't seen it yet take the time to see it this month.
- I'm not a big horror fan. My housemates have repeatedly talked me into watching slasher film after slasher film, and I still just can't get into the genre. But this film is different. This film is actually really good. And that's not to say that other slasher films aren't. (I could never discredit the Scream series.) Rob Zombie's "Halloween" just goes beyond the simple bad-guy-with-a-knife stereotype and delivers an amazingly scary and sad story of a well-known fictional psychopath.
In this version of "Halloween", director Rob Zombie doesn't just retell the original story in his own style - he retells it well: Zombie's "Halloween" is more of a biography of Michael Myers than a slasher film staring Michael Myers. The first and best example of this is the opening act of the film: the back-story of Myers's childhood is almost thirty minutes long. (Most slasher films tell the back-story in a short five-minute teaser before the opening credits.) Once the audience is attached to Myers' character, the story progresses to show Myers' troubled life in a mental institution, his escape from the mental institution and finally his killing spree. Most films wouldn't go into this much detail on the nemesis's character which is what makes Zombie's version so good.
Overall, this movie will likely appeal more to horror fans but non-horror fans, such as myself, may enjoy it too. Yes, it shows blood and guts, but it's a great retelling of Michael Myers's story and I highly recommend it.
- I was very interested in an updated version of the film, plus the previews looked really dark and creepy. Unfortunately, I went and saw the movie...
For one, ALL of the characters have abnormally filthy mouths. Even Laurie had a filthy mouth, which made it very hard to think of her as a victim I'd want to survive.
Secondly, I don't need a lengthy biography on Michael. I wish they'd just leave at him being a born sociopath. Instead they made it due to child abuse and being picked on in school. What was interesting in the first one was when the parents run up to Michael after he's stabbed Judith to death and the parents look completely normal; their son is just crazy. Also in this remake here, Judith was an awful person and I was completely apathetic to her death. In fact, she pretty much deserved. I prefer innocent victims.
Rob Zombie knows how to create an awesome atmosphere, but he should NOT write his own scripts. He makes his characters so hard to like and they all have mouths like a bunch of uneducated trash.
Apparently a lot of people enjoyed this movie, but I hated every single character and basically sided with Michael despite how much I already hated his character. In my opinion, this movie is an enormous failure and it does not deserve this 3 disc special edition.
- Is it just me? Am I the only one sick of re-releases. Why even bother buying it when it comes out if they are going to release a better version ten times over in the coming years?
- The 1st thing I noticed about this movie was it was from the point of view of the hunter instead of the hunted. For the 1st time wee see what Michael sees not what his victims see. This version does an extensive build up of the Michale Myres character from his child hood of abuse- how his step dad mentally and physically abuses him and how his sister ignores him. We learn how he was picked on at school to the point this small 10 yr old snaps. We also get to learn about his obsession with masks and how he dealt with being in the mental institution as well as how he escaped and the storyline of how he became the monster he was in the previous movies. The 1st part of the movie gets the viewer to see exactly what happened to this small child to push the right buttons to create the perfect killing machine.
.
The cinematography was great from the film color dating the movie back 20 yrs. With some modern changes to how high school kids act now a days to add to the realism. The blood wasn't over done or digitalized. Zombie kept a sense of realism that made the movie that much more believable raising the scare factor.
Of course if you follow zombies previous films you will see a hand full of actors and actresses make an appearance from time to time. The children actors did an amazing job as well. The other thing I liked was I never got bored. I remember the old slasher flicks like the Freddy and the Jason films as well as the old Halloween movies- during scenes of character development there was a lot of boring dialog that slowed the movies down to a crawl and lost my interest until another sex scene or another killing depending on the film I was watching. This movie manager to negate all that boring sluggishness development and still create a character on the screen.

- I remember watching this when I was younger and thinking of it as not bad but not as good as E.T. Thanks to Blockbuster.online and they mass of movies you can rent, I added this on my quere and just watched it yesterday. Oh man where to start.
First of all the movie is the most obvious E.T. ripoff ever. (1) A family without a dad and two boys(2)Older brothers name is Michael,(3) Girls name Debbie vs Gerdie, (4) Alien tricked into the house with food/beverage (Coke replaced the Reeses) (5) Alien talks, (6) Chased by the Government, etc. There was even a scene which LOOKED like the playground scene where the van stopped so they could plan.Man I was waiting for the wheelchair to start flying.
After I watched this I felt a sudden need for a value menu at McDonalds with a Coke and some Skittles. The product placement was non stop-always placed in a way the viewer could see perfectly. As the movie was in the final scene I thought the barrage was over until I saw MAC has a MCKIDS shirt and I just started cracking up. For reference you may remember it- the scene where the alien family gets citizenship in the US and then drives a car!
Honestly this movie is only for kids. Any adult would watch that McDonalds dancing scene and know it was cinematic awfulness. Two stars because its honestly in that rare "so bad its good" but only to laugh at and only once.
- If you want your kids to watch an inferior version of E.T. filled with poor acting and loaded with product placements for Coke and McDonalds you have found your movie! Oh and with an added bonus not included in E.T. Mac and Me offers a disturbing scene in which a disabled wheelchair bound boy falls off a cliff and nearly drowns. Don't worry he is saved by the title alien Mac (get it like a Big Mac sandwich) who apparently needs to drink Coca Cola to stay alive. I was chilled when Mac tells us he'll be back implying he'll be appearing in a followup film but since the movie is now almost twenty years old and no sequel has appeared on the horizon perhaps we can rest easy.
- alien crack babies are trippy.the only other time i've seen expressions like those on the aliens was when i saw a brotha hitting up a bitty-rock by a dumpster.great stuff;especially if you like mcdonalds.
- The movie Mac and Cheese portrays a druggie alien whose main goal in
life was to kill The Wheelchair Boy and steal his Coke. The sex scene
in
the movie is great. Let's talk about Mac: He's a mutated meerkat, whose
addiction for Coke made him leave his planet to come to earth...just to
get one fix. While strung out on Coke, he was driving his Power Wheels
down the street and had a fatal Power Wheels accident, giving him fatal
head trauma...but luckily he survived. The coroner said that drinking
and driving is bad for meerkats while operating Power Wheels. I believe
him. He would never lie to me. Except for that one time when he lied
about having a crush on me. But, anyways. Now let's talk about Cheese:
aka The Wheelchair Boy who loves falling down cliffs. I learned one
lesson from that scene: Wheelchairs are heavy and gravity doesn't like
you. Too bad Mac was strung out on Coke when he tried to save him. He
ended up killing Cheese. He was giving him CPR while still in the
water.
I cried for hours. God, I miss Cheese. I miss him so
much!!!!Ok...that's
better. Now Mac is upset at himself and he wants
vengance...uh...against
himself. So he has a mass Coke-spree, even drinking Sams Choice when he
is low on cash. Wanting to waste away in this sad world of tasty
carbonation addiction known as Coke. The last scene in Mac and Cheese,
Mac is sitting in Ronnie McDonnie's, sobbing, drinking a Big Gulp.
Thinking this "Oscar-worthy film"-(hulk hogan), is over, something
unexpected happens. This is truly the climax!!! Cheese's rotted corpse,
wheelchair and all rolls into Ronnie McDonnie's, and picks up Mac's
lifeless body, and rolls out into the sunset...leaving you
speechless...but understanding the best love story of all time.
- This is an excellent movie in the spirit of ET that encourages the audience to cheer for the underdog
