5 comments about The Te of Piglet.
  1. Just finished reading "The Tao of Pooh" and am halfway through this one. As a lover of the Winnie the Pooh books (and children's stories in general) and a more simple, happy way of life, I am thoroughly enjoying this book and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a little help in trying to live life differently, more simply, more easily and, by default, more happily!

  2. Another great book by Benjamin Hoff and a perfect accompaniment to the Tao of Pooh, his first book of these 2. Like the other, I continually buy this book just to find myself gifting it away and then buying another copy for myself so that I can continue to re-read it. Always an inspiration.

  3. I didn't find this book as lovable as Tao of Pooh. Piglet while seemingly an ideal model to learn the Te from there is alot more ranting and raving then the simple lessons from Pooh. Maybe Piglet needs a change in his prescriptions.

  4. The Te of Piglet started off innocent enough, why with cute characters and even cuter writing how could this turn out bad? Don't get comfortable just yet! Before I knew it, I was being bombarded by Hoff's complaints about the Western world and its wretched politics. Oh how the West has lost its way--or rather, never knew the way to begin with! This is NOT a spiritually informative book, it is a compilation of Hoff's frustrations with the Western world, in particular, America. He makes it a point to vilify Eeyore who, to my knowledge, was always a lovable, albeit, depressive character. Furthermore, on the one hand, Hoff criticizes China's authoritarian government and on the other, he praises them, saying "these people know something" when referring to the country's tree planting policy. Perhaps it isn't that the Chinese are so wise and forward thinking that they know to instill tree-planting into children's hearts but rather that China has some of the worst desertification problems on this planet and that the Gobi Desert grows by the size of three Englands a year! Don't buy Hoff's political rants either because a few of his opinions are uninformed. Lovers of the Tao of Pooh, be forewarned, this does not deserve to be called its companion book. After I completed the Te of Piglet, I found it hard to take anything from Hoff seriously again. Aside from lacking the spirit of Taoism, the book is just plain disorganized. I am still wondering, "what was the point of all that?"

  5. Hoff manages to unravel the core of the Tao and the Te using images we all know and love. He makes Taoism accessible and recognizable. These are well written, easily read and re-read. Using these images to illustrate a philosophy that can be very elusive is a master stroke.

5 comments about Taoist Secrets of Love: Cultivating Male Sexual Energy.
  1. The main problem with this book is that the idea of chi is presented in such a low-brow Western terminology that the concept nearly lost. References to "Tongue Kung Fu". "Air" and the Cranial "Pump" tend to deflate and demystify the spiritual ideology. Literal english translations or even the retention of his own native language would have showed more respect for the subject.

Chia's teachings of meditation seem accurate enough but make one fatal flaw. The whole book - all of the various levels of the energy transference exercises - lead to or stem from the Microcosmic Orbit. Through out the book, Chia states that energy moves from the sexual region, up through the body and is stored in the head.

Why would he say that and then state in one of his other books, Awaken Healing Energy of the Tao, that proper storage of this energy, after moving through the head, should be in the navel. Anyone familiar with t'ai chi knows that the navel is the center point to all of your body's energy. To store such energies in the head can lead to insanity. Very irresponsible on his part.

At the end of the book, I suppose in an effort to cover all bases, everything from the pubococcygeal muscle to refexology gets a paragraph or two. Needless to say that several Chia's notions on tangible sexual issues could use a bit more research. For example, Chia makes reference to how ingesting semen "is at least as rational as buying vitamins" as it is a "treasure house" of vitamins and minerals. Anyone worth his salt knows that it only contains trace elements.

That statement alone makes me question just how accurate the rest of the book is. (Chia, of course, doesn't condone this sort of behavior, for you see, according to him, loss of this fluid can lead to baldness and premature death - hence the books whole stand point of retention and recirculating the energy contained within to other vital areas of the body.)

Where Chia really lost me, however, is when he suggested that women practicing exercises in this book "should keep [their] panties on to prevent any chi from draining out."

  2. After just today finding this book on Amazon to show my sister since she asked me why I retained semen for a year in 1990/91. I found one reviewer below state that Chi storage in the head can cause insanity!! Yes. It happened to me immediately after a years practice.

I followed this book to a T and now after being ill 1992-1997, being better finally and today in 2004 I see this statement about possible insanity.

Be careful what you read folks. Always. Cum daily for safety I say now with a smile.

  3. In some ways Chia's earlier work (including this book) is purer than his more recent volumes. This book's extensive background about sacred sexuality makes it especially worthwhile for interested readers.

Although I think Chia's emphasis on forcing the chi with performance-oriented techniques, such as teeth and buttock clenching, counting and so on, is not as effective as a less-driven, approach based on more mutual affection, I still heartily recommend this book. It can genuinely helps readers accept the potential hidden in their sexual unions.

  4. excelant study guide... i have a good strong understanding of chi kung, i've been teaching myself from books and practicing for years now. for anyone who doesn't know chi kung is the stuff that the famous 1 inch punch is made of. some books i studied from that i recomend to study allong with this one is , tai chi classics, qigong for health and martial arts by dr. yang jwing ming and any others by that author. i have read at least 20 or more others on the subject. almost all the titles i've read leave out sex entirely and at least a couple say not to practice chi kung with in 24 hours of sex but none give any info on why or any hints as to why. i have read a good handfull of books on tantra and haven't found this type of info available. after stumbling onto this book i bought it immediatly, it was a much needed gap filler in my training that i will cherrish for years. i read the book slowly and carefully then i started practicing in the next couple days. i took me only that long to reap the bennifits, i went from an occasional strong orgasm a consistant strong orgasm every time. using the "big draw" most of my orgasms are so strong that i nearly faint and my body is left tingeling. i don't think this would be so, accept that i've been practicing chi kung and other meditations for years already that these tecniques were easily addapted. the bit on multiple orgasms is quite real. i highly recomend this book for anyone who takes their love life, meditation, and chi kung serously. i would have to agree with the other couple reviews that say that this type of info could be "potentialy" dangerous. i've studied other titles such as the "encyclopedia of dim mak" by by erle montaigue and wally simpson and am just now starting to study "a manual of accupuncture" and i know that your chi systems demand allot of respect. nonetheless if you practice progressively, carefully and don't try to force your chi but rather allow your self to become aware of it, you'll find that the information in this book is highly valuable. that is why i recomend that you study this book with the book "tai chi classics" this title instructs you how to "cultivate" your awareness and controle of your chi properly.

  5. Mantak Chia is a master who gives detailed descriptions of the how-to of moving sexual energy. The methods he proposes are very disciplined and therefore work best for people who like structure and have lots of patience and self-motivation. This book is also good for individuals not in relationship, because so much of the work is done on one's own. Because Chia's work derives from the Taoist tradition (as opposed to Tantric), there is more emphasis on the physical and practical than the mystical and emotional aspects of the work.

5 comments about Healing Love through the Tao: Cultivating Female Sexual Energy.
  1. It was slightly interesting, but I found myself skipping around in the book to see if it gets any better.

  2. First let me start by saying I am a male.
I have had the opportunity to have read both the male & female version of this book. I have also been practising the techniques some years ago, with tremendous wonderful results. I can tell anyone of you that, if you practise the techniques with the discipline required you will see, feel and experience the results promised to you.
I highly recommend both books for reading and training. It give both male and female insight in each others techniques.

  3. I just read the review by a Chinese Taoist from Detroit, who by the way is selling books on the same suject! This person is discrediting exactly what we, westerners, can be grateful to Mantak Chia for : making those ancient secrets accessible and useful to the regular American! Who nowadays has time to wait and meditate for 20 years before being introduced to the basic taoist inner respiration techniques ?

And don't be fooled, even if made "quickly" accessible, those secrets need practice, and to rip the benefits, it's better to start at the more basic exercises like "The Healing Sounds" or "Chi Self-Massage: The Taoist Way of Rejuvenation". Even if you stopped there, you would feel the difference.

In my humble opinion, all the better if the sexual titles can get people's attention enough to open them to those powerful and helpful ancient secrets. They work !

As for anybody spending the money becoming accredited to teach the Healing Tao, this person may want to get better informed ! People don't get any accreditation before they can demonstrate their capacity to master all the exercises and the situations that can develop during a class !

  4. I have to admit that I don't even care about the origin of the practice, about the lineage, titles or whatever - I'm only interested if when I applied a teaching and practice in my life - do I get the desired results - and I guarantee if you apply the information from this book, if you engage in the practices described, you will notice wonderful results - in terms of increased sexual magnetism, increased energy for healing, rejuvenation and spiritual growth (yes, yes, yes - you may even get rid of some wrinkles), and of course, more fabulous sex.

I have attended a workshop with Mantak Chia way back in 1987 and while I had this book, I have recently also purchased the set of videos. I find all of them valuable - workshop, because it gave us all opportunity to clarify anything we might have needed to clarify about the practice; book, because it went into greater lenghts in explaining finer points; and video set, because it's easy to follow and it's great to refresh some points one might have forgotten (after all, there is only so much one can remember after attending a two-day workshop and there's only so long that one can retain the information).

I was passionate about my practice after attending the workshop - however my practice consisted mainly from solitary practice dealing with generation and circulation of sexual energy - which I at time practiced even for 7 hours a day, during the first six months (later on, I have reduced the amount of practice) - however, certain benefits of my initial intense practice remained and have tremendously benefited me with other energy and spiritual practice I was (and still am) engaged in.

I feel deeply grateful for this book and for the teachings Mantak Chia brought to the west.

  5. In depth refined awareness exercises for women who are serious about getting a deeper sense of the sexual/life stream and its 'home' in the genitals.
Not light reading. You have to practice the exercises for this book to make any real sense.
A must buy if you are into that kind of work and pretty uninteresting if you aren't!

5 comments about The Parent's Tao Te Ching: Ancient Advice for Modern Parents.
  1. I attempt to parent listening to my intuition as my primary guide. This is not to say that advice from friends and family and words from books can't be just the thing I need at any given time. Thing is, most of the books I've looked at just don't do it for me. I'm not saying they don't contain gems, even if they're Gina Ford!, but this book...

...is only gems. Every page opens at the perfect words I need...or my Baby father need. It's funny how we open the book ramdomly on such totally different pages.

Note: I'm sure you could read this book in order, but It's not that kind of book really.

p.s. another book I found very helpful as well is 'The Science of Parenting', by Margot Sunderland.

  2. i can read this book daily and get something new out of it each time. a great gift for any parent.

  3. I've read a lot of parenting books, and surprisingly enough this simple book has been the most helpful. I'm sending a copy to other mothers I know.

  4. I love this book and have started giving it as a gift to new parents. We get so caught up in our modern, busy lives and sometimes our children pay the price for that. This book is filled with wise words and insight that will help a parent, who may be questioning how to raise a child in this challenging world, see clearly and do what is right for their child.
Your child's journey is theirs to experience, whether you like the direction of their journey or not. The Tao will help you put into perspective what really matters in the relationship between parent & child. I keep this book by my bed and read it when I am need of some inspiration (translation - OFTEN!)

  5. In the midst of wrestling with the middle school years, I was looking for a parenting philosophy/approach that came from the heart and which was different from the command/control version I grew up with. This book is excellent if you're open to taking a new approach to interacting with your child and seeking a heart or spirit driven connection.

5 comments about The Complete I Ching: The Definitive Translation by the Taoist Master Alfred Huang.
  1. Alfred Huang is a tai chi master and Taoist professor living on the Island of Maui, Hawai'i. His two books (The Complete I Ching: The Definitive Translation by the Taoist Master Alfred Huang published by Inner Traditions and Complete Tai-Chi: The Definitive Guide to Physical & Emotional Self-Improvement published by Charles E. Tuttle) are both scholarly works. The approach taken by Master Huang's translation of the I Ching ("yijing" in the currently accepted romanization of Chinese called pinyin) is different from the Wilhelm-inspired tradition. Most such books, following the Wilhelm template, have provided interpretation as part of their translation. The Chinese text of the I Ching is even more imagery oriented -- more inscrutable, to some -- than most such translations tolerate. The strength of that imagery is its ability to inspire personal insights. Master Huang's book presents a careful transposition of Chinese images of the I Ching into English, with as little elaboration as possible. He then provides his own separate interpretative ideas and comments, but the text of King Wen and the Duke of Zhou are rendered as closely as possible to the original Chinese metaphors. Huang's book also introduces more detail regarding the nature of the names of the gua (3-line trigrams or 6-line hexagrams), implications of their ideographs, and nuances of their meaning. It is a scholarly, ground-breaking work that should capture the interest of Western readers. Additionally, Huang has introduced the concept of the Tao of I that is inherent, although not expressed directly, in the I Ching. He also explains how the sequence of the gua is not random but has coherence, representing a recurrent cycle. Huang explains how the I Ching describes the unity of Heaven and Humanity and further explains in some detail how specific aspects of each gua are associated with his interpretation of the history of King Wen and the Zhou Dynasty. The Complete I Ching is a carefully researched and meticulously translated rendering of the original Chinese text that should be appreciated for the accuracy of its metaphorical imagery.

  2. Not read it yet, but I think that the book will be very interesting and can teach me a lot of thinks

  3. I came to understand the I Ching by way of a rich amalgam of factors that I could not have accomplished the goal without... And Alfred Huang's presentation of the I Ching has been the foremost influence in my ability to comprehend & access this incredibly vast system of sacred knowledge.

I have a major math problem, & the I Ching was always held out from me. My gateways to learning the I Ching were:

    * Feng Shui...
I accessed the I Ching through the side door of Feng Shui, which has its basis in the I Ching. When I grasped the environmental layout system of Feng Shui - I segued right into the I Ching.
Richard Webster's introductory Feng Shui books were instrumental in getting my feet wet with the I Ching system. I also recommend "Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life" by Karen Rauch Carter. And a good compass.

    * "The Visual I Ching: A New Approach To The Ancient Chinese Oracle" - Cards & Commentary by Oliver Perottet.
This book & card set helped me to visually understand the fundamental super-structure of the I Ching Oracle. Because you can see the system artistically represented across the 8 elements & 64 individual Hexagram cards, with apt descriptions of what each means. It puts the Hexagrams out there in pictorial terms, where you can see the over-arching, primary structure of the entire Oracle - all at once. It graphically shows you the way the I Ching is built. If all those lines aren't reaching you, this pictorial system will. I got the mathematical process of "changing lines" through my head in this book - & could proceed. Simple & concise for the novice. Experimenting with the cards according to the suggestions in the book has been a meaningful experience.

"The Complete I Ching: The Definitive Translation" by Alfred Huang.
I have accumulated several versions of the I Ching now - & I always find this translation to be the most useful. When I use the Oracle, I consult this book first. This is my starting place. Wilhelm second. I found the ideas for means of divination Huang presents were extremely helpful. He showed me that we can be flexible & creative in accessing the Oracle. I developed a system of drawing stones as a result, & the Oracle has been fantastic, & unfailing, in its wisdom. I've had a colorful variety of helpers in learning the I Ching - but this book has been INDISPENSABLE. I couldn't have mastered it as well as I have, without the teachings of Alfred Huang.
Make sure you pay special attention to all of the introductory material, before you get to the Upper Cannon. After this, review the glossary in the back. Read it, & re-read those first sections as many times as necessary - before you proceed. Huang suggests that you next read "Heaven" & "Earth" thoroughly, & I strongly suggest that you do. It is densely packed & essential material that will tell you how the I Ching is built, & how it works.
Huang recommends you read & understand all of the Hexagram interpretations, before using the Oracle for divination. But I do it the opposite way. After gaining an understanding of the history & the fundamental structure of the Oracle itself, which Huang provides - I learned by doing, & I read as I go. After grasping the basics, I cast the Oracle - & THEN I consulted the meanings of the hexagrams - & gained an understanding of their interpretations, directly as they applied to the life situations I read about. And then the I Ching came alive. Incredible...

    * "The I Ching Pack" by Anthony Clark & Richard Gill, including "The Little Book That Tells The Truth".
Forget the cards, they're nice art - it is THE BOOK that really is worth the cost of this set. If I find myself stymied, or have an objectivity issue with an I Ching reading - the interpretations in this book will succinctly clarify the matter & remove any obstacles in short order.

    * "The I Ching, Or Book Of Changes" by Wilhelm & Baynes.
When consulting the I Ching, FIRST I closely consult the interpretations of Alfred Huang... Then after taking a look at Gill's "Little Book", I mull it over later in detail with Wilhelm... Huang pans much of this work - & I understand where he is coming from, & why. It is a western theosophical approach to the Oracle, from a completely different culture, time, & spiritual era. But with a firm understanding of the perspective from which Wilhelm wrote - & I don't mind consulting the book for the fine tuning concerning a reading. Huang speaks to my inner Monk, & I go there first... Wilhelm speaks to my inner Yankee. And as a westerner, sometimes this reaches me in ways & in a language that the other works can't.

    * The "Reiki Psychic Attunement" DVD, by Reiki Master Steve Murray.
This Reiki Attunement initially inspired & jump-started my process of learning to understand & read the I Ching. It put me on this path in 2005. This Attunement is *fantastic* - & you will need no knowledge of Reiki to benefit from it. This was where The Door to the I Ching first was opened for me. I highly recommend this Attunement, it is a one of a kind spiritual experience.

    * My own Reiki & I Ching spirit guides... And past life experience.
If you once "got" the I Ching 1000 years ago - no matter how thick headed you feel, I'm living proof that you can "get it" again today... :) In a far different land, language, culture, lifestyle, & era. Math problem & all.

    * Having a strong background in reading tarot didn't hurt either... Not a necessary requirement, but having experience with reading an oracle isn't a bad thing.
Reading the tarot is like driving a nice Honda Tracker... Reading with the I Ching is like driving a mint Rolls Royce......... The I Ching is a HUGE, comprehensive, intricate, holy & sacred System - to understanding All That IS. It is as Simple, as it is incredibly complex - & as Complex, as it is amazingly simple! Tarot has been practical & useful, & it is an excellent system bearing a great deal of depth. But the I Ching is like a GIGANTIC Metaphysical Spiritual Institution, all unto itself. Built on what is essentially, Binary Code... You are NOT in Kansas anymore, Toto..... When you get there - you'll see what I mean. You'll feel like you're viewing The Innermost Workings of The Universe, from the inside - & you are... : D And once you immerse yourself in the understanding of the I Ching, you will treasure it always.

"The Complete I Ching: The Definitive Translation" by Alfred Huang comprises the cultural foundation of my understanding of the I Ching - augmented & supported by all of these other major helpers... Think of Huang's I Ching as the cornerstone to my understanding, & the rest of these items supportive bricks in the archway.

  4. I FOUND THE DELIVERY OF THIS PURCHASE WAS EXCELLENT AND DELIVERED AS PROMISED.
THE BOOK ITSELF WAS IN PRISTINE CONDITION AND HAVE ENJOYED IT EVERYDAY SINCE I HAVE HAD IT.THE REVIEW ON THE BOOK WAS GREAT AND TO THE POINT.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL WAY OF DOING BUSINESS.
    SINCERELY,
    HECTOR R. MARTINEZ

  5. Alfred Huang's translation of the Yi-Jing is one of the few books with "definitive" in the title that actually is what it says. The introduction to each hexagram offers up snippets from Wilhelm and Blofeld, two earlier translators whose works are widely read. As a scholar of the etymology of Chinese characters I found Huang's use of the most ancient ideographs to be a nice touch--some of these characters go a long way to making sense of what have become rather obscure meanings of the hexagram names. Each hexagram chapter ends with additional information which encourages the reader to explore further connections. After initially reading R.L. Wing I go to Huang's translation for greater depth of explanation, and I am never disappointed.

5 comments about The Tao of Health, Sex, and Longevity: A Modern Practical Guide to the Ancient Way (Fireside Books (Fireside)).
  1. A friend turned me on to "The Tao of Health..." and after some adjustments to my eating habits, I have never felt better. My energy level is more consistent (no fatigue), my immune system is stronger than ever, and for the first time in my life I have regular movements. Daniel P. Reid is not only a wealth of eastern knowledge but he has a way of making his ideas easily understood and without pretentiousness. I have given this book to countless people who have all had similar experiences to mine. I highly recomend buying "The Tao of Health..." if to just have it as a reference for living a better life.

  2. I love this book.
Since I read it for the first time years ago, I continually find it an inspiration on how to improve my life in so many different ways.
    Highly redommendable.

  3. this book contains such a wealth of knowledge, i am very grateful for finding it. i just happened to pick it up at a friend's house one night and read a couple pages. then i ordered a copy for myself... i have ended up ordering about 6 or 7 copies since then, because i always end up letting someone borrow it and letting them either just keep it or give me the money for it!

anyways, this book is great, it covers breathing techniques, general diet information, sex, sleep, etc... basically anything we do, this book covers. so if you want a book that will give you many things to really go out and try for yourself, then this is the book for you. if you want just another book of vague theories then you might want to look elsewhere!

also the deal on this book is great. each section alone could be sold for the price of it! instead they're all compiled into one nice thick book.

seriously, i am so grateful for finding it, i hope you can get as much out of it as i have.

  4. Thank you so much for the great service. Everything happened the way I wanted it to and I really appreciate it.

  5. This is a book that everybody who cares about his/her life, who wants to be healthy and develop his/her Nature/God given capacity and internal power, so he/she is healthy, prosperous and lives a long and happy life, should possess and follow its advicess, by adapting them to his/her life. We owe this planet, the civilization we have developed, all predecessors who have cared for us, who have sacrificed their lives to discover the various pieces of this rich heritage. We owe ouselves, our children, their children and the coming generations to do what caring people for more than five thousand years have done for us. Let us be healthier, develop our internal capacity and contribute to our civilization by having better people who care for other better people. Cherish the knowledge and wisdom of more than 5000 years of generations! If you care to know and make things happen, this book will teach you how to do it.

5 comments about Tao Te Ching.
  1. I am a new student of the Tao Te Ching and know that this will be a life long study. I have begun to collect various translations to enhance my reading and selected this version for 2 reasons. One is that it was translated by Gia-Fu Feng and secondly because it had pictures. When it arrived I was stunned as it so far exceeded my expectations. The B & W photography of Jane English is indeed haunting & powerful on its own. Each shot is beautiful enough to want to display them - any of them or all of them. I Find reading the beautiful verse and then contemplating it while looking at the astounding pictures to be an amazing experience. I am grateful for this edition. I hope you consider adding it to your set.

  2. Although translations such as James Legge's are far more academically accurate and thorough, this volume brings together not just the surface truth but the spirit that is Taoism. The black and white images represent a yin and yang balance, but within them is a balance that portrays beauty. By keeping in mind the original poetic script of the original, the words are recast to bring the same nuances of meaning rather than a soulless too-literal translation.

  3. good book to have around to read a quick passage for a meditative pick me up.

  4. This book is centuries old and the third most published publication.
It is a wonderful, spiritual guide for life to be read slowly and the meaning of each section contemplated teaching one how to write their own book of life.

  5. I love this edition. Good size, clear print, well laid out, and very good translations. The black & white photography also adds great depth to the book.

    Highly recommended.

5 comments about 365 Tao: Daily Meditations.
  1. This small book has a commentary on Tao for each day of the year, an guide to application to life. It avoids both abstruse explanation and sermonizing, merely suggesting guides along the Way. Highly recommended as a means to understanding just what Tao is about, but, of course, never trying to define it. A worthy addition to my shelf of handy books.

  2. There is a problem concerning the age of the edition. The book advertized is not the book shipped.
Customer service was not able to correct the problem. Apparently the ISBN number is
the same but the book received is from a 1992 printing. The book advertized was printed around 2002.
The book is excellent. The translation of Tao is very easy to understand.

  3. I have the first edition, first printing of this book and have read through it randomly several times. This year starting on January 1st, I decided to read it straight through on a daily basis, as Deng Ming-Dao no doubt intended it to be read. I have delighted in some of the insightful, inspiring verse and meditations on common every day situations; some of these have seemed deeply profound while simply stated. Meditation #82, July 1st, entitled "Flow" begins with, "If the boulders are moved,//Even a river will change its flow." And continues, "So it is with the flow of our lives.... The freedom to choose and to change belongs to us." However, there are other meditations or ideas that have left me cold. Today's meditation, in fact, completely turned me off when he stated that you cannot find the Tao if you live in an urban environment. That cities "stink," literally, and they are too noisy for anyone to become "fully realized." That cannot be true. The Tao, or enlightenment, may be experienced in any time or place as it has nothing to do with time and place. But Mr. Ming-Dao is entitled to his opinion as this is his understanding of the Tao philosophy. Overall, the work is worthy of daily or random reading. That this work has had more than 30 print runs over the last 15 years speaks to its enduring wisdom.

  4. Deng Ming-Dao is, in my opinion, a modern day Lao Tzu. He writes with clarity and a simplistic beauty and thus captures the essense of Taoism, managing to apply it to modern life. Much like Lao Tzu, he seems to also write this book out of necessity for the times, unlike people such as Wayne W Dyer who seem to be attempting to cash in on the "new age" market.

  5. I read the meditation daily and find that it is a positive influence as I go about my daily life

5 comments about Sex and the Perfect Lover: Tao, Tantra, and the Kama Sutra.
  1. The Kamasutra ilustrations are excellent. The author relates her experiences of the Kama Sutra positions, for that reason sound very real and exciting. Reading this book many of you will learn how to climax during intercourse, if you weren't able to before. Iam cover several techniques and approaches that may broaden your viewpoint and help you to become better in bed.

The territory it promises to cover is: how to stimulate a woman's G-spot, how to achieve multiple orgasms, and how-to Kama Sutra techniques. But Iam doesn't stop there; rather she intends to show readers how to make their relationships more sacred by making the sexual union more sensual. She also professes to help readers find and attract their soulmate. And therein lies the key to this tome. It's not just about having better sex, but improving your relationship with your significant other by strengthening and improving the sexual bond you share.

I Recommend this book its saved my marriage of the sexual routine.

I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't

  2. This book is for the sexually adventurous, lovers, couples and spiritual people who are willing to try all kinds of new things to improve their sex lives as well as their lives as a whole. This is a book about eroticism and how to become a perfect lover on the purest level.
I think a romantic vacation getaway should be planned and this book will be coming along; a second honeymoon to help us reconnect with my wife.

  3. Sex and the perfect lover, it is a fabulous book to read. This book does have delightful tips, and very well done Kama Sutra's illustrations.
The author relates her experiences of the Kama Sutra positions, Prolonged mental and bodily ecstasy easily kindled by lengthy stimulus on the sex organs.

I tried the techniques described in this book and ended up having the best sex of my life with my wife.

  4. Let me say that this book is a must have. I was able to reinforce information I already knew and learned things that I've never considered. In the end, they will be very, very, very happy and trust me, they will yearn for more.

  5. Okay, I'm being harsh, but as a caveat, let me say that I am open to new ideas, especially in the bedroom...but...
Puh-leeze! I mean, I was laughing out loud at the ridiculosity of this book. The idea that a woman will be over the moon with a simple switch to some of these lame positions is just plain idiotic. Or, putting a red light bulb in a room - ooooohh, baby bring me back to those teenage years! These sort of recommendations would be fine if there were more content to back it up. However, the most I got from this book was the theme - get into the bedroom, take your time, appreciate your lover. If you need a book to tell you things like 'light a candle to set the mood', then this one's for you.

I gained absolutely NOTHING from this book.

5 comments about The Tao of Pooh.
  1. This book is based around the idea that A. A. Milne's stories of Winnie-The-Pooh can be used to illustrate the basic notions of Taoism. Hoff is not by any means arguing that Milne was a Taoist. He is merely saying that Milne's inner attitude to life, as revealed by the stories, intuitively follow along the same path as Taoism. Owl is wise, Rabbit is cleaver and Eeore is smugly superior but the real hero of the books is Pooh, the apparently stupid yet strangely successful and able bear.

The book covers the Taoist principles of:

Tao, or the indescribable Way of the universe,
P'u, or natural simplicity, the Uncarved Block,
Inner Nature, being those things that make us exactly who we are,
Wu Wei, or proceeding without doing, causing, or making,
Tzu Jan, or 'self so', meaning that things happen by themselves, spontaneously,
Tz'u, or caring and compassion, and,
T'ai Hsu, or the Great Nothing.

Along the way we learn the pitfalls of being too busy and the benefits of doing nothing (for example meditation and contemplation). Having read this I now try to arrange my day so that I can spend half an hour a day in my garden with my cat just doing nothing but observing nature and thinking the thoughts that come to mind. I recommend it to everyone.

  2. This was a delightful read. Funny, engaging and full of innate wisdom, Pooh-style. Tiddly pom, pom, pom. This book merrily reveals that Truth is everywhere, especially in children's literature! Read and giggle and understand yourself a little better.

  3. The Tao of Pooh is a wonderful, simple explanation of the basic tenets of Taoism. It is not the end-all-be-all of Taoism reference, but for those of us interested in learning more about Eastern Thought, it is a delightfully entertaining way of doing so.

I don't think Pooh knew he was quite the philosopher, and I'm not sure A. A. Milne intended him to be, but it turns out that he explains basic Taoism very well.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about basic Taoism, wants to make positive changes in their lives, or who just loves Pooh and has an open mind.

  4. I had to read this book for a class. I was suprised by how interesting it was. Hoff uses fictional characters to define the Tao religion. If you are looking for insight on other religions, I suggest this book.

  5. This was a good quick read. Very peaceful, entertaining, and it kept me reading until the end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interersted in eastern religion.
