5 comments about The Road to Unafraid: How the Army's Top Ranger Faced Fear and Found Courage through.
  1. This book was in excellent condition exactly as described. Shipping time arrived as expected.

  2. Fantastic! Jeff Struecker's personal testimony touches the heart and shows man's utter need for Christ in our lives. Themes such as courage, faith, loyalty and death are ingrained into your mind while reading Captain's Struecker's vivid recollection of events such as the Black Hawck down incident in Somalia, the Panama invasion, and his time as an elite U.S. Ranger. Jeff is truly an inspiration. I have bought a half dozen copies of this book for friends and family.

  3. Jeff is a proven leader and his story is one that will impact multitudes. Thanks for your courage. -A US Navy Chaplain

  4. A couple years ago, I checked this book out from the library and read it for the first time. Right there, it became one of my favorite military books, alongside Entebbe (Iddo Netanyahu) and Zvi (Elwood McQuaid). Although I didn't see Blackhawk Down until just recently (and that being an edited, more family-friendly version), Cpt. Streucker describes the battle very well, not just the physical aspects, but also the more important spiritual and moral aspects, which the film failed to touch on. I highly recommend this book; it's an inspiring read that will strengthen your faith.

  5. Well written, and an eye opening account of the Somalia debaucle; an asset to Blackhawk Down and the ingedients necessay to became an Army Ranger.

  1. This wonderful little book about Beth and her husband going thru empty-nest made me feel a wide range of emotions. She is a brilliant writer and always amazes me how she can be a faithfull follower of Jesus but still have so much FUN!! What a refreshing christian woman..Buy the book.. you won't be disapointed.. Beth allows you a 'peek' into her private life. If you have taken a bible study that she wrote you will get snapshots of her life.. this book fills in the holes a bit..Great reading!

  2. I read Beth Moore's book after experiencing two miscarriages and trying to get pregnant for the third time. Her Godly approach to motherhood made me realize that God gives us children as gifts and blessings - regardless if it is for a few months in utero or for decades on earth! She gives a personalized insight on how to try to raise children to love Christ - in a world that often makes that difficult! I would highly recommend this book to any woman - moms, daughters, moms-to-be, or as I was when I read it, a mom wanna-be!

  3. Very touching...touches all emotions. I bought three more to share with other family/friends who are mothers. Great choice as a gift for moms whose children are leaving for college.

  4. I'm a parent of 2 little ones, and I've been reading one of her essays each morning. They're sweet and real and funny (just like Beth Moore always is) - and they're a real encouragement to me to see the long view of godly parenting, rather than getting stuck in the preschool weeds. I also gave it as a gift to my mother-in-law whose chicks are long gone from the nest, and she loved it too.

  5. I LOVE this book! I encourage you to pass this along to mothers, daughters, sisters, friends...everyone will love it and be enriched greatly just by reading this sweet, funny, thought-provoking book by the incomparable Beth Moore!

3 comments about Scripture Workbook: For Personal Bible Study and Teaching the Bible.
  1. Workbook is great for getting good understanding of different topics found in the Bible. Most of the basic doctrines covered in detail. The studies on the Trinity and baptism were extremely good. Book is well worth the money.

  2. An excellent study guide on the topics covered. This is however a WORK-book; if you like to be spoon fed your theology, this book may not be to your liking. To use it, you will need your bible, a notepad, and some time, but it's well worth the effort. In the end, I not only learned about the material explicitly covered, but I think I also improved my bible study habits.

On each of the topics covered, the book leads you through the pertinent sections of the bible (by references - you have to look them up yourself), comparing scripture with scripture. Mr. Zeolla shows great restraint in simply laying out the evidence and letting the bible speak for its self.

On several topics he also presents the arguments for some, umm, 'heterodox' positions, and does so fairly enough that we can see how someone could reach such (incorrect) conclusions, how we know they are wrong, and how we can avoid making such mistakes our selves. This is much more helpful than simply giving the orthodox position and pointing out that others are wrong.

I originally got this book to use an early chapter ("Scripture on Scripture") to prepare for a small group study on the bible, and was not disappointed. It was several months later that I got around to working through the rest of the book, and was impressed by the presentation. I especially appreciate the two-chapter study on the Trinity, a doctrine to which I must admit I had never previously paid enough attention.

5 comments about The Book of Enoch.
  1. A book that I have been wanting to read for quite some time. It actually brought much light on several subjects that I have always had questions with concerning the Bible.
Scripture or Divine Inspiration? Not my call here, that's God's arena. Some things have to be accepted in faith, and then sometimes the truth is mixed in with personal perceptions or interpretations. Say for example someone might argue that perhaps Aaron, Moses' brother in law was of Asian descent instead of Midian because Asians worked in the area or lived near by, and that some how this would tie into a reaching argument proposing that GOD came to Asians first with an attempt later to hide information or change History. I know that this is far reaching but in fact some people do these things. The truth is these sorts of things do not matter. We are all esteemed by GOD and He justifies us. So it isn't necessary to get caught up in such issues. It doesn't matter whether or not Aaron was Asian or who GOD came to first. What matters is that He came and made it so all people can know HIM. I think that this is a good book, and I would recommend it with other references. The Bible along with other books of scripture. I am thankful that there are many out there working to bring us this information.

  2. This is a great psudepigrapha book for theologians. Great for starters to biblical studies, and a great introduction. If your thinking about getting it DO IT.

  3. to the Holy Bible!

Originally considered an essential text/book of the Holy Scriptures, "The Book of Enoch" should be read by anyone that wants additional insight into these (i.e. Bible)ancient texts. After reading this book, I can't understand why some religious scholars may have chosen to eliminate this book from the Holy Bible!

In my opinion, it's an absolute essential 'companion' text that bridges many gaps and answers many questions about our past and our future.

  4. The first book in existence, and inspired/lead by God, Enoch records history. Includes full explanations regarding origin of fallen angels and the devil. This book was in the bible for over 500 years, the author says, and I believe it still should be in there. Anyway, you already know if this book is for you, don't you? If you want to get closer to God, I'd think this will help your cause. I was concerned maybe something satanic had to do with this book, but I've had it in church and there was fire falling from heaven burning up the book of Enoch. I thought maybe because it has the names of demons, but the bible names satan several times and refers to hell many times, so it's okay to speak of these things. Anyway, I'm rambling. I like the book. If I had to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 in bible books, with the book of John and Acts being a 10, I'd call it a 7 I reckon.

The reason I got into this book is because of Genesis 6:4 "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."

I wanted the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on the prince of darkness, fallen angels, nephilim, and the life of Enoch. The bible suggest Enoch's days on earth terminated at 365 years. This sheds light on that.

  5. I am very happy with the book. It is a quality book with a nice hard cover. The type size is easy to read. I purchased three editions of the Book of Enoch and this is far and away the best of the three. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a copy of the Book of Enoch. I am glad I bought this book.

5 comments about The Adversary: The Christian Versus Demon Activity.
  1. It's hard to believe that a book by a fundamentalist Christian about the Devil could be this dull. Usually the field of Satan-sniffing produces works filled with amusement, even hilarity, and massive evidence of human credulity. This book has only a vast vast number of Bible verses and a few anecdotes so un-lurid that they wouldn't even interest Pastor Fletcher Brothers on a dull day. It does, however, provide a good groundwork for understanding the philosophical basis of the fundy attitude towards demons - if you happen to care.

  2. If there was one quick book you wanted to read on the subject of Spiritual Warfare, this would be it. It is to the point on most issues and easy to read. There are several great examples of types of warfare prayers and lists of what to look for as far as spiritual oppression. All in all a must for anyone who feels led to this ministry.

  3. This book is not about sensationalism and "demon" stories. In fact, the author strongly warns against such harmful interest in the occult. The Adversary is a totally Biblically-based study on "the world, the flesh and the devil" as revealed in Scripture. It focuses on the balance Christians should have between having an awareness of Satan and his schemes, while not giving him any glory by focusing more on him and his power than on his total defeat on the Cross. This is an excellent book regarding the authority of the believer. Christians need to know what the Bible says regarding this Enemy, so that we will not give place to him in any way. Praise the Lord for the victory He has already won!

  4. This title is a fairly easy read, but was rather disappointing in its treatment of spiritual warfare. While the author avoids the excesses of Pentecostalism and emotionalism that are so often associated with spiritual warfare, he places too much emphasis on the adversary and not enough emphasis on the Conqueror of the adversary. The book is also rather dated.

"Disciplined Warriors" by Chuck Lawless is a much better, much more helpful volume on this subject. In short, Bubeck is good, Lawless is better.

  5. I first read this book in mid-1978 as a brand new Christian. As I read the doctrinal prayers in it, the Lord taught me to pray the Word of God, taught me my position in Christ, and brought me into a depth of understanding of my Christian faith that most Christians don't reach for 20 years. Because of this book and it's author, Dr. Mark Bubeck, I became committed to praying the Scriptures. Seventeen years later I wrote, PRAYING IN THE WORD OF GOD: Advancing Christ's Kingdom, a Scripture based prayer guide that enables every Christian to pray for all the will of God. I can't recommend THE ADVERSARY highly enough! If you do nothing else but read Dr. Bubeck's prayers it will change your life!

5 comments about A Theology for the Church.
  1. The book has been published recently. The contents are based on the Baptist point of view. It is really good to build one's theological foundation.

    Thanks,

  2. A Theology for the Church is a scholarly systematic theology text book with a decided conservative and evangelical orientation. The book is edited by the President of a Southern Baptist seminary which should be a big clue as to the book's theological composition. However, it is an excellent book with chapters by some of the finest theologians in America. The book's major challenge is its huge size (over 900 pages) which makes it a difficult read. A Theology for the Church provides a wealth of rewarding theological insights for those willing to work through its voluminous size.

  3. This is core theology from the contemporary great theologians from Southern Baptist.

This is describing and defining what the salvation, God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, church, etc in the view of Southern baptist theologians.

if you want to understand what the Bible says and what the southern Baptist theologian says, you have to got this.

    This is great book!

  4. A Theology for the Church editied by Daniel L. Akin is one of the best if not the best Baptist Theology book in print. It is clear in its presentation of the different views within the evangelical context but is bold enough to take a stand on a view.
This is for the serious student of theology.

  5. A Theology for the Church is a unique book. It's a systematic theology by multiple authors, written on an academic level but with the goal of impacting the church as a whole. It is written by Southern Baptists but is applicable to all thinking Christians. The contributors disagree on some points, although they are united by their "passion for a revival of theological knowledge and understanding in the church."

The goal of the book is to present to the church a guide to the major headings of theology that will help pastors and laypeople both to learn sound doctrine and to see the importance, the relevance, of that doctrine. Toward that end, each chapter asks four questions about the doctrine at hand:

    1. What does the Bible say?
    2. What has the church believed?
    3. How does it all fit together?
    4. What is the significance of the doctrine for the church today?

This is a great approach, integrating exegesis, history, systematic theology, and application. This last section was especially great in most of the chapters I read. It's true that the study of theology involves the danger of divorcing the knowledge of God from "real life," but it's also true that the true knowledge of God, the ground of all reality, is invaluable in living in the real world. The application sections are dead-on in showing how our theology, good or bad, shapes our behavior, whether we admit it or not.

Because this book was written by a variety of authors and covers a vast amount of material, it's inevitable that everyone will disagree at some point. That was the case for me, although at most points I thought the treatments were fair even when I disagreed with the author. The chapter on salvation, for example, contained some misunderstandings of the doctrine of predestination (including an out-of-line comment that R.C. Sproul's doctrine of God is similar to that of Islam!). But it avoided many of the common errors, and was a pretty good treatment of the Reformed view of predestination, considering that the author doesn't hold that view.

A second criticism is that the book is not really written on quite the popular level you might expect from the title. I still think Grudem's Systematic Theology is the best reference for most churchgoers (without sacrificing academic rigor). Of course many laypeople will read Theology for the Church and profit from it, but it will probably be more useful to pastors with some theological training.

Criticisms aside, though, this book really is a gift to the church. The chapter "Introduction to the Task of Theology" is great; other standouts are "Special Revelation" and "Human Sinfulness." The contributors are a who's-who of bigshots in the SBC, but they quote extensively from outside that tradition, so the relevance isn't limited. The historical overviews are a great resource, and the general zeal for the importance of theology in the life of the church is catching. A Theology for the Church deserves a spot on the thinking Christian's shelf.

5 comments about Morning and Evening: A New Edition of the Classic Devotional Based on The Holy Bible, English Standard Version.
  1. I purchased 5 "Morning and Evening" books by Charles Spurgeon. I purchased these books as gifts for families in my Church. Every single family has remarked to me how wonderful this book is for a daily devotional. I personally enjoy my own "Morning and Evening" and knew that Spurgeon's writings and interpretations of scripture inspire me throughout the day. I would recommend this book to any one looking for that daily inspiration that keeps one's mind meditating on God's Word - the Bible.

  2. Spurgeon is super, this devotional is great way to start and end the day. Highly recommend

  3. This is an excellent devotional book, a single page for morning and a single page for evening each day. It draws the reader into a deeper appreciation of Christ and what we have in Him. Often the entries are convicting, but only in a way that tends to lead toward greater -- and happier -- submission to the Lord. Reflections on short Scriptural excerpts are deep and insightful. I've been using it for four years and never find it old or unfruitful.

  4. This is a wonderful resource. The Original is a masterpiece. The problem is that the type size in the hardbound edition is Very Small. Not suitable for anyone with less than perfect vision and a lot of light. I am Very disappointed. This publisher, Crosswayd doesn't seem to pay attention to these details.

  5. If you love Spurgeon, you will love this new edition. I love his writings and his words, but often I have to re-read his works for clear comprehension. But this new edition keeps the deep relevance and the heart piercing truth while using vocabulary that is more modern making the words jump off the page with lighening speed.
If you are new to Spurgeon, this is the book for you. It will whet your appetite for more of this deep thinker's insights into God's mighty Word.
Buy the book today and enjoy it for years to come!

2 comments about MacArthur's Millennial Manifesto.
  1. Samuel Waldron's "MacArthur's Millennial Manifesto" is an excellent work that contributes to our understanding of the biblical issues concerning the millennium, the relationship of Israel and the Church, the identity of the Jew, the relationship of the OT and the NT, the promise of the gospel, and the principles of sound Bible interpretation.

In 2007, Dr. John MacArthur stirred the waters of controversy at his own Shepherd's Conference by declaring that all self-respecting Calvinists should be pre-millennialists. He argued in his keynote address that a-millennialism tends toward Arminianism, doesn't adhere to a literal hermeneutic, and accused them of teaching "Replacement Theology", that is that the Church replaces Israel.

Dr. Sam Waldron, as a proponent of a-millennialism, has taken up the task of answering Dr. MacArthur's charges with great respect and Christian grace. Dr. Waldron is careful to faithfully represent what Dr. MacArthur actually taught and systematically addresses each issued raised. The complete text of Dr. MacArthur's message is even included as an appendix. Dr. Waldron is setting the record straight by correcting those points of Dr. MacArthur's message in which he has significantly misrepresented a-millennialism's position on hermeneutics, Israel, Gentiles, millennium, the gospel, and the church.

This book is of a great benefit to all readers, pre-millennial, a-millennial, and post-millennial alike. Dr. Waldron, with deftness and precision, displays the issues that are at stake in this debate, corrects some common misunderstandings and offers some very cogent exegetical challenges to dispensational pre-millennialism. Agree or disagree with the author's conclusions, the reader is given a tremendous amount of biblical data to work through in a manner that promotes respect for all individuals and positions involved.

This book is highly recommended for anyone who is familiar with Dr. MacArthur's address and was uncomfortable with his line of argumentation. It is also highly recommended for anyone new to the millennial debate who wants more light and not just heat. Also, those who hold to a dispensational pre-millennialism ought to take the challenge of answering Dr. Waldron's critiques. He has offered some rather devastating argumentation against dispensational pre-millennialism. I thought the final chapter entitled "Is There an Issue in the House?" was particularly devastating to pre-millennialism.

Agree with MacArthur or Waldron, the modern church could use more books like this in our ongoing pursuit of rightly dividing the Word of God.

This book will make a great gift for your pastor, seminarian, or Bible college student.

    "Take up and read!"

  2. When MacArthur came out with his claim about Calvinism and Premill views, there was no end to the blogging, the accusations and more. While, admittedly I find the whole MacArthur message troubling and cannot for any reason discover why a man who speaks with Ligonier and Together for the Gospel Conferences, well, why did he need to seek disunity at all? The complete text of MacArthur's message is included for the person who has not heard it (thank you for the inclusion). But the outstanding fact of this book is stated in the description...in the most winsome and perceptive manner possible, Sam Waldron dismantles this manifesto from top to bottom.

Waldron admits that while some Amill. spokespeople do make mistakes, MacArthur has blatantly and wrongly used poor sourcing, poor exegesis, poor logic, and a critical flaw in biblical studies. He even labels people who are Post-Mill as representatives of the Amill position. That is just a complete lack of good study--a point not often seen in MacArthur's presentations. Waldron does a superb job of looking at history. He takes MacArthur out to the "wood shed" a few times to show him that MacArthur's own logic sets up a lot of paper tiger arguments for the Calvinists to be scolded as he does in his manifesto.

The greatest benefit of the book is NOT what you think. You would think that the value is found in dismantling of the manifesto given out by John MacArthur. However, the superb worth of the book (and it is worth every penny you pay for it) is in the clear, articulate, and historically accurate presentation that Waldron gives for the hope, the zeal, and the passion found in John Calvin and the Amillennial Eschatology. It is a superb outline of the beliefs, the biblical texts, the errors that have been corrected, the mis-representations of all millennial views and in fact leaves the reader with a greater hope that the New Israel of today has a wonderful mission, a story to tell, an evangelism that is powerful, and biblical basis that is unbeatable.

I have many books in my library that explain the many views of the millennium, but this one will be a premier copy for its succinct analysis, its clarity, its humility and its overall presentation of the biblical message.

  1. This was a great read. It allowed me to think about all that John went through. I am not a big time book reader and find it hard to get into many books, but I was hooked from the start. I was even in tears by the end of the book. I recomend this to anyone in need of direction and is a must read for Christian Leadership.

  2. Gene Edwards does a wonderful job of pulling the reader in to join the adventure and capture the experience.

  3. I bought this book based on reading others' reviews of how great it was, how the author's storyteling "pulls you in from the start & never lets you go." Others gave the impression that it was helpful to those going through a difficult time.
I have to say - I don't get it. It was very short (I read it in less than an hour) and kind of pointless. The basic point of the story is that God is a mystery, and we don't always know why he lets certain events happen. Yeah, I get it already. Have since I was little. I can't believe I spent $10 for this book.

  4. This is a very thought provoking book, especailly if you focus on each of the characters in the beginning of the book and then follow their lives, where their choices lead and what causes ended up with them in prison.
But when you get to the prisoner in the 3rd cell there is such revelation and the light really goes off--
I would recommend this book to every one to read, it is just awesome.

  5. A great work of fiction, this dramatic story give us a look at John the Baptist, imprisoned by Herod and awaiting death, as he struggles to understand a Lord who did not live up to his expectations.

It gives a whole new perspective on what faith means. John's struggle to understand the whys of his situation echoes our own. When it turns to Jesus' POV and how He wanted to reveal things to John, it's one of those "wow" moments that give you some understanding of God's ways.

It's a book of comfort and an eye-opening look at what this thing called faith is all about. A book all Christians should read. It adds foundation the great words of Charles Spurgeon: "When you can't trace God's hand, trust His heart."

5 comments about Voices of the Faithful: Inspiring Stories of Courage from Christians Serving Around the World.
  1. This is a collection of short essays written by western Christian missionaries who are located throughout the world.

Beth Moore compiles this set of short inspirational readings (one for every day). Each reading is one page. The objective is that you read the short essay, all of which are based on Bible verses, and contemplate the teaching throughout the day.

The essays are arranged by subject. Each month has a different theme. February - the word of God. March - prayer. Etc. Each month's essays are preceded by comments by Beth Moore.

Some of the essays are very inspiring. It takes a couple of minutes to do the daily reading, but one can contemplate it during your daily commute or throughout the entire day. Some of these messages are that good.

However, Beth Moore's comments are my favorite part. She uses charm, wit and wisdom to arrive at a very entertaining writing style, and at the same time she is very effective at getting her point across, and her monthly introductions are perfect for setting up the theme for the coming month. But her short introductions are only to set the stage for the real stars of the book, the missionaries.

  2. If you are looking for a devotional book that will broaden your prospective about missionairies; this is the book. Beth Moore has an introduction at the beginning of each month. The daily devotionals are grouped together into topics that change each month.

I started reading the devotions in September. October was on spiritual warfare. I was amazed at the depth of the content. You will be suprised that some of these beliefs still exist. We are so caught up in our own little worlds that we do not have a clue about the world around us. Each day has a scripture to read, a story, and a prayer to use.

The missionaries are identified mostly by initials but you are given the region that the missionary lives in. My Sunday School class is using the devotionals before our lesson on Sundays. We take turns presenting the text that usually works right along with our lesson on that particular Sunday. I have ordered the book for some of my friends and they love it also.

  3. If you are mission minded or want to be then this book is for you. The introduction is written by Beth Myers but the individual daily devotions are written by missionaries from all over the globe. I purchased four of these books and gave them as Christmas presents. When I find a good book, I always want to share it with someone. I asked for a copy for myself as a Christmas gift from my son. It has been a very heart warming book and makes the missionaries seem more like real people doing a real job. As I read these devotions and pray for them, I feel like I am having a part in their work. The four friends I gave this book have told me that it has truly blessed their hearts and they look forward to reading it every day in this New Year.

  4. OUR HOLY FATHER USED THIS BOOK TO BRING THE WOMEN OF OUR CHURCH TOGETHER NOT ONLY IN PRAYER BUT IN MISSIONS. IT WAS A REASON TO GET TOGETHER ONCE A MONTH AND SHARE STORIES. WE ORDERED 25 BOOKS AND THEN ORDERED 10 MORE. WE NOW HAVE 35 WOMEN OF THE CHURCH WORKING TOGETHER, PRAYING TOGETHER AND REACHING OUT WHICH IS SOMETHING OUR CHURCH WAS STUGGLING WITH. THANK YOU AND WHAT A WONDERFUL BOOK, MOST OF THE WOMEN COULDN'T STOP AND READ ON AND ON NOT WANTING TO STOP. THANK YOU GOD FOR YOUR DIRECTION AND THANK YOU BETH MOORE AND MISSIONARIES FOR MAKING THIS BOOK. IT NOT ONLY CHANGED OUR CHURCH BUT OUR LIVES. (WE WERE NEVER MUCH ON MISSIONS BUT WE SURE ARE NOW!) GOD'S BLESSING ON ALL OF YOU. A SISTER IN CHRIST.... MARILYN

  5. I received this as a gift for Christmas and have now purchased at least 3 others for gifts. The 1 page, short, daily devotionals are true, uplifting, and have given me a great view into God's practical power and grace for each day. A true blessing!
