5 comments about Loved by Angels: Angels Are Right Beside Us-Even If We Don't Yet See Them.
- I LOVED this book - a truly inspirational look at a real person's search for the angels in their life. Funny anecdotes and honest spirituality made this book all the more believable to those of us who are interested in gaining more meaning in our lives.
- This is a WONDERFUL book and my first foray into spirituality. Having met the author and being impressed by her joyous vitality, I was very curious about her book and eager to read it. Contrary to my usual practice, I didn't greedily devour it in one sitting. Rather, I savored each chapter letting it sink into my soul. This book fairly radiates with the warmth and humor of the author's personal experiences -- oh, and her frustrations, too. There are any number of lessons to be found and the truest simplicity in it's ultimate message -- stop looking so har. The answers are right there if you just listen and are ready to hear the answers. This book is a great gift from Sabrina Fox to those of us beginning our journey, and a probably a great affirmation for those already on the path.
- This book was a bestseller in Germany in 1997 before its recent 1998 debut, and it is a real gift! Sabrina's honest presence makes it easy to like and relate to her life, spiritual desire, experiences, joys. Following the steps of her journey we are also touched by the peace, love and joy that begins to integrate within her. We learn that it is our destiny, whenever we choose to make it so, to laugh, trust, love, and so change the world. As Sabrina states in the book, "I had learned to trust in God and trust in my angels. Trust had replaced my fear that something terrible could happen any minute...There is so much to see, and fear is like a pair of dark glasses that keeps (us) from seeing the light." Enjoy it!
- A wonderful account of a personal experience with Angels that helped me to better understand what these mysterious beings really are. Angels are as much a hiiden part of who we are as they are separate from us. As much a reflection of our own 'Buddha Nature' as they are separate beings. This insight has really helped me to work with my own Angels in a joyful and spirit-filled way. Thank you Sabrina!
- Angels watch over us, protect us and guide us, only if you dare to believe with all your heart. I happen to be one of those firm believers, and while some of my own personal stories may not be as dramatic as some in this book, there have been many times in my life when, yes, there has been an angel beside me.
The author has written this book is such a delightful manner and uses a touch of humour to warm the heart of the reader. The book was a major seller in European countries in the late 1990's and once you read it you will understand why. The inspiration and comfort it brings to many will make the book well worth it's modest price.

- It's no secret that I adore Dr. Goodman and her work. This book is no exception. I truly appreciate the body of knowledge she has assembled in this one title, addressing mental illness, spiritual intrusions, modern methods of approaching both and tribal wisdom to distinguish the two. Dr. Goodman provides a bridge between healing approaches that is incredibly under appreciated.

5 comments about Angels A to Z.
- The angel of air (Chasan or some books spell as "Chassan") is not listed in this book. This angel is mentioned in some books on evocation of angels.
I do not think that this book is good enough to be called an encyclopedia on angels. Perhaps just the name "Encyclopedia" to make it sell better??
- This book is good but I find another book "A Dictionary of Angels : Including the Fallen Angels" by Gustav Davidson much better and complete.
- The book seems well-organized but the entries are incomplete. It is not difficult to find some well-known angels are not listed in this book.
Looking for a dictionary of angels? Look elsewhere.
- I found this to be the most comprehensive book on the subject of angels and related topics that I have ever seen. Whether you are approaching this subject from a biblical, historical, cross cultural, or esoteric viewpoint you should find most everything that you are looking for. Indeed, you will find much that you were not originally looking for. It is easy to find yourself absorbed for hours reading from subject to subject, seeing associations and connections that never occured to you before. I couldn't really see where the author was promoting any particular agenda or viewpoint- it all seemed pretty objective to me. Yet, the writing isn't in dry-as-dust academic style either.
The book itself is hefty 485 plus pages and laid out in dictionary form (though there is a well written introduction on the overall subject.) The illustrations are in black and white, but they are well-chosen, crisp, and plentiful.
- Angels are of great interest to many a Christian, and "Angels A to Z" is a complete and comprehensive look at all of them throughout history, covering their history, origins, and more - and it's not just limited to the angels of Christianity, touching on Islamic and Nordic angels as well. Also discussing angels' relevance in common pop culture - books, movies, TV, and more - "Angels A to Z" is a top pick for angel lovers and highly recommended for community library religion collections.

2 comments about Nature Religion in America: From the Algonkian Indians to the New Age (Chicago History of American Religion).
- state living in, name of indians, etc.
- Catherine Albanese's treatise on Nature Religion in the U.S. is probably her best known work, although it is by no means her only area of focus. In this volume, she defines and defends what she calls "Nature Religion."
And its an impressive set of drawn-out sketches and themes-- admittedly just one of many possible ways to map this space. Algonkian Amerindian religion is impressively overviewed, and the role of "Nature" here (a European concept) is dissolved into a complex interlocking set of relationships between Powers, Places, and Persons, both Human and Other-Than-Human. For the Puritans, Nature was abstracted into all that was "Other," usually a place of wilderness and evil--a Place to be feared. Although, as Albanese points out, precedents exist in Christian history for the wilderness as a place of testing and purification. The new republicanism from the conservative American "revolution" fostered a "wilderness eucharist" mentality--holding Nature sacred as something to be ingested, thereby becomed (and overcomed).
Yet other turns no less revelant today are covered. Transcendentalism and its associated 'heathen' ambiguous reverance for Nature are documented, both in the paradoxical sense of Nature as the Ultimate and Nature as a illusion (or correspondence for the Ultimate. Both of these senses are inherited in contemporary Goddess worship and the different, but related phenomenon of New Age religion, while each of them individually leads Albanese to wilderness preservation ideology and Christian Science/Mind cure movements.
For Albanese, this protean concept contains its own multivalency, its own pluralism, and therefore tends to recede in influence and importance the more a particular offshoot institutionalizes and fossilizes. It is a voice more suited to a prophetic mindset than a priestly mindset, although that too could be possible, it seems. Excellent and challenging work to uncover and begin to document this counter-covenantal thread throughout American history and religion. Albanese freely admits to inventing the term herself--but she is correct in that using it as a frame of reference, for both elite and popular culture, for both empirical and cultural facts, tells us something very important about religion in the United States.

5 comments about An Inquiry Into the Existence of Guardian Angels.
- This book is so real and well written that I would recommend it to all, whether they be skeptics or well on their spiritual path. The author who was admittedly a skeptic himself, has left no stone unturned as he presents both his personal experiences and those well researched. I found his chapter on Georgette Faniel, the present day bride of christ, particularly inspiring.
- This book is written with humor, eloquence, journalistic perspective/restraint, and passion. After an inexplicable escape from what might have been a fatal shooting on the L.A. freeway, Mr. Jovanovic began on a journey to investigate whether angels do in fact exist. He approaches it with the experience and restraint of a professional journalist, which he is. He looks at Near Death Experiences (the famous tunnel with light at the end etc.), interviews the woman who made famous the 'stages of dying', and Georgette Faniel, a stigmatist who some believe is a living saint; the book explores such diverse topics as Medjugorje, Padre Pio, apparitions of angels and The Virgin Mary; and yet never gets syrupy or precious. In fact, it manages to be all the more powerful reading due to its step back from the topics. Friends gave me a copy of this book and I was amazed by it; it's very quiet in tone, yet not without humor, and explains itself very well. The reader goes on the journey to discover whether angels exist, right along with the author, yet at the end you don't feel pushed toward any conclusion but your own. I highly recommend this book to everyone, not just those who already believe in such things as these. (Oh ! PS, if you net-search on this book title you will find its author's own website, which has more about the book, including a the first chapter available to read online for free).
- This book is more than I ever expected; the honest, investigative research style of Pierre will turn any "skeptic" into a believer in the existence of angels. His bibliography and "permissions list" were also worth the price of the book; they opened up a new world for me. I sincerely hope he will write another book. Thanks to Amazon for making these 5 star books available used.
- This book seem to focus far more on two other topics, NDEs (near death experiences) and saints, than it does on its title subject of angels. The whole angel theme seems in fact to be kind of an incidental inclusion, like a thread of only secondary importance. The tenuous angel theme thread ties the other two themes together, themes which form the actual substance of the book.
I would recommend this book to those interested in NDEs; I would also recommend this book to those who are interested in the mortification, stigmatic, and pain aspects of Catholicism, which are dwelled on quite extensively in this book. I'd also recommend this book to anyone interested in saints. But to someone purely interested in angels, I regret I have to advise you to look elsewhere for real substance on that subject.
- I have to completely agree with one of the earlier reviewers: this book is not really any meaningful work concerning guardian angels, but rather a tale of the author's progressive (and somewhat chaotic) search for the paranormal, in general. Most of the book examines Near Death Experiences, stigmatics, saints, "synchronicities" (unexplainable coincidences read as signs from guardian angles); very little of it actually tries to examine what world's religions have to say about angles, what their (possible) names are, where in holy texts they are mentioned, or what their nature might be. For example, the book will (indirectly) state that "[one's relationship with his or her guardian angel] can be modified by prayer", but will not elaborate on that very interesting thought at all in the remaining 300 pages, giving the reader somebody's yet another paranormal experience tale, instead. It is almost as if the work was a really a forced attempt to find guardian angels wherever they could possibly be found (doesn't matter whether the tale comes from Padre Pio or Mr. Schmoe, M.D. - they are both granted the same importance), rather than a disciplined treatise of where information about angles CAN be found, all the while jumping from MDEs, through tarot references, through out-of-body experiences on LSD, to weird psychological experiments of "isolation chambers", all intertwined with author's personal philosophical musings. If you are looking for "Soul-Searching and the Paranormal 101" - it is an excellent and thoughtful work, but if you are looking for a serious, organized, impartial book about angels, look somewhere else.
