- I notice with gratitude that Symantec has removed many glitches from NAV.
Installation is now faster and smoother. The program is running well in the background, updating itself and sending notifications of any attention it needs.
- Unfortunately, it seems once you have downloaded NAV 2007, your whole computer will not function properly. Internet Explorer malfunctions, and I also received a blue screen (fear of crash) stating that what ever program was recently installed, I should reinstall it. I did so, but the problems did not go away. I called Norton, they told me to run in safe mode without norton. My computer was back to normal, so it was Norton causing all the problems. I unistalled it and went with another product, after spending the $60 and many hours with Norton help desk. Don't believe me, do a search on any search engine, and you will see the many problems and no apparent solutions for this program!! Up till now, I have only used Norton, and never thought twice when buying the update. I'm now moving on to another product.
- Could have been a good program, but instead is a terrible resource hog.Your computer could lock up at 100 percent and jam.It misses a lot of spyware and viruses There are plenty of better programs out there. If your older verion is working, just renew.Thank you for reading my review
- Works great as with every NAV I've used for over a decade.
As long as your computer was made this century, and you don't install ANYTHING else by Norton, you should have no problems with Norton Antivirus. I have had Norton Antivirus since my first computer with times in-between using any antivirus program you can think of and the only one that never let me down was NAV (others did in various ways by letting a virus in, 'crashing' for no apparent reason, constantly causing problems with legit programs or saying they were virus's and not allowing me to exclude them, etc). I help people repair their computers and do 'tech support' and all but one problem concerning NAV was because of the user or because of having other Norton applications installed.
I will say (and this is the reason I knocked it down a star) that the quality of NAV makes you think that the other things they have will be quality products. I will not buy anything besides Antivirus from Norton. NONE of there other programs are worth anything. If you are having problems go with only NAV and see what happens.
If you still have problems your PC is:
A: too old
B: has problems before the NAV install
C: still has other Norton programs installed that you missed
- I have read many people have had serious issues with this software, however, that mostly stems from computer and software ignorance rather than Norton 2007 being a poor program. Many people complain this program slows down their computer to the point they cannot use it. First of all, you don't need to set this software to run a virus scan when you turn on your computer. If you do this, you're simply an idiot. This program prevents you from acquiring viruses in the first place so running a scan at start up is completely frivolous. You only really need to run a scan maybe once a week and that's just for the heck of it really.
This anti-virus software has blocked at least a couple dozen viruses, trojans, and port attacks on my computer. I've had this software since the beginning of 2007 and I've been nothing but pleased with its performance. Any anti-virus program (when running a scan) uses up a large chunk of system resources. However, as I stated before, there's no reason to run a scan at startup or more than once a week b/c this program prevents you from acquiring any virus or trojans in the first place. Remember, don't set it to run a scan at start up and if you do run a scan, don't do anything else that's system resource intense while running it.
Another major point, make sure you delete your termporary internet files at least once a month. All those old web page pictures and such, from sites you'll never go to again, end up getting scanned b/c they are saved on your computer. Norton having to scan all this old junk takes a lot of time. If you delete this once a month, you'll cut down the time of the scan by almost half...seriously!
Also, make sure you defragment at least quarterly during the year. Installing/uninstalling programs leads to slower performance b/c files get fragmented. Also, make sure you have a decent hard drive in the first place. You should have at least an 80 gig by today's standards...and if yours is smaller, make sure you've got several gigs of free space at least. If not, of course your computer is going to run slowly no matter what you're doing...especially during a virus scan. It's up to you to take care of your computer and keep it running efficiently. If you don't, it's your fault not the software you're using. If you're hardware is out of date, it's time to upgrade and get with the times people.
If you're using an old/weak computer, of course you're going to experience a great decline in your system performance when running a scan. That's your problem for not having an updated system not the software's problem. If you aren't running a scan, this program does not drain your system resources and sits ready to stop any intrusion attempts when they occur. I'm using a P4 3.2 gig HT with 1 gig of RAM. Pretty basic tech by today's new duo and quad cores being the new standard. If you don't have at least a P4 that's running at least 2.8 gig...you're way behind the times and need to update your pc or laptop. Don't blame the software for being slow when it's your pc or laptop that's egregiously out of date.
Bottom line, Norton 2007 has proved itself to be a great product time and time again. It has saved me dozens of times from viruses, trojans, and intrusion attempts. Stop blaming this software for your ignorance and out of date computers.
