- I bought the security suite and now find that it is nearly impossible to get assistance. They have blocked me from logging onto e-bay and refused to accept my acknowledged password. My account was locked and I still seem unable to unlock it with their new assigned password (which was given after they refused to accept the one I have always used before. I am not happy with my inability to get on e-bay even after submiotting the appropriate overrides. Terrible software until they fix this problem for me. Don't buy without further review. Norton isn't much better either. I had no problems until these programs created glitches.
- I have just uninstalled this garbage so that I can actually download emails from my server!!! For some reason my main email account server kept asking me for my password even though I submitted it many times! It just so happens that the email accounts that are NOT affected by spam were logged in and out successfully!!!
DO NOT BUY!!!!!!
- Spamkiller must work for some people - but who? I have tried it twice - 2 different versions, 2 years apart - and it (a) froze Outlook, (b) crashed the PC, (c) corrupted the pst files (the data storage for contacts and emails), (d) swallowed and lost the emails that came in during the frutrating hours of trying to put things right. The 2nd time it came bundled with Internet Security Suite 2006, which is OK - apart from SpamKiller. After installing the suite, uninstall SpamKiller before you run any programs. You have been warned!! At very least PLEASE back up your data first, and give yourself 2 or 3 hours spare time to rectify things in case the system freezes up.
- The whole deal is that you have to delete ALL your e-mail POP3 accounts and create new ones, directed to and through the McAfee site. Otherwise, it doesn't filter anything.
Yeah. I'm gonna do that, delete all my accounts. I have literally a dozen accounts for work, all with rules designed to protect my main account from spammers and route other stuff to approriate files. Wipe 'em all? I don't think so.
To make matters worse, Spamkiller removes functionality (at least in Outlook Express) even AFTER it's uninstalled. I can no longer click on a link in an e-mail and have it open up a browser window. I'm back to the ridiculous old AOL method of copying-and-pasting... or even right-clicking to copy the target URL if the address is actually longer than what's displayed for convenience.
Now I'm Googling to find out how to rid myself of the last, aggravating remnants of this GARBAGE. Seriously, do NOT buy this awful software. I was a big fan of McAfee -- their Firewall and VirusScan products are very good. But I've been burned to a cinder by this whole Spamkiller experience. It's unbelievable. I wish there was a way to give it ZERO stars.
- Do not under any circumstances buy this awful product; I cannot believe McAfee, which has decent Firewall and AntiVirus software could bring out such a bad product; it's almost as annoying as the Spam that it doesn't filter.
If you put this rubbish on your PC, it will take ages to filter all the messages each time you open Outlook Express and then it will put about 1% of any spam into your junk folder and a few that are not spam.

- We purchased this product after we subscribed to a DSL service and were flooded with pop-up adds even when our browser was closed. While this product certainly stopped that, it has been a complete pain in the arse to browse the internet with. It prevents us from accessing our e-mail account with SBC unless we turn off both the security and the firewall (what's the point then?!) and it prevents us from accessing web sites that we want to access. Supposedly, we should be able to add those sites to a safe list, but even after doing so, we're unable to access the sites unless we disable the product in its entirety.
I've spent more time trying to adjust our personal settings with McAfee than I spent dealing with pop-up adds. As much as it kills me that we wasted $75.00, I am going out today to buy Norton's product. We just can't handle this product any more. In all fairness to McAfee, from an installation standpoint, the product worked great. We had no problems with Windows XP, nor did we experience any slow-down with our laptop.
- If you want Xp to crash with a blue screen of death when someone sends you a file across the LAN and to have emails with attachments bigger than 50k fail and to spend all day setting options that the program doesn't remember then go ahead .... waste your money!
Oh and uninstalling is very easy if you are good at editing the registry manually Never again will I tread the mcafee path
- I can't say enough bad things about my experience with this software. (If you decide to try it be sure to backup your system before starting - you'll need it.) The installation software will probably crash, leaving you in a half-installed limbo. You will be able to get the software installed but this is only the beginning of your problems. You will not be able to receive email without manually fixing a conflict between the Privacy Service and Virus Scan components. You will have to disable the popup blocker if you want to follow links in email from some popular mailing lists like ZDNet. Compuserve now greets me with six error messages before completing login. Everything is slower with ISS 6.0 - either get used to it or be prepared to disable much of the functionality you paid for. Finally, you won't be able to play Microsoft Solitaire without killing a process or two. Good luck trying to uninstall the software; there doesn't seem to be either a program or instructions to help you do it. You can call them for $2.95 a minute, but given the number of problems you're likely to have you will be paying a fortune only to end up (at best) with a substandard product and vague promises of fixes. I suspect that customer support is the true source of their profit on this product. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!
- Ok, Norton must be hiring a lot of people to come on here and trash McAfee Products. I've used this program for... what is it now... somewhere around a year I think. I've never had any problems with it. I hear people complaining about not being able to connect to the net or shared files. Most likely because something is configured wrong. But as far as I see. McAfee rocks.
- Whenever I install a new, untested firewall I got to the Shields Up! website to test for vulnerabilities and open ports:
https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 I also do this on a monthly basis as a security measure for my PC. When testing this product AFTER configuring the firewall for maximum security and ensuring I had no applications using any open ports, McAfee had 3 PORTS that were shown as OPEN when tested by Shields Up!, not as stealthed, not as even closed. According to the Shields Up! website, the firewall at the very least should have notiifed me of open port(s). It didn't. Also, I setup the antirvirus for real-time protection and automatic updating. Yet, whenever I did a weekly virus scan, it found new viruses. These viruses were not discovered AS they were introduced to my system, only after the fact in a routine scan, during which time they could have attached themselves to emails or damaged important files. I have since installed a FREE firewall, now all of my ports are now fully stealthed. Another antivirus program found TWO undiscovered viruses after I uninstalled McAfee. I went to the store and got my money back.

4 comments about Dreamweaver MX Upgrade from Dreamweaver 3 or 4.
- At first glance, the Dreamweaver [DW] interface seems very complicated but after using it for a while, the interface is very intuitative. I was using FrontPage [FP] for web design, but I couldn't control the layout of the tables on the page. I am not a pro. With DW I could! The properties of each element can be shown in a little box on the screen [a improvement over R mouse clicking on then clicking on the properties tag in FP]. The eye dropper icon works anywhere on the the open program - I could grab colors off the menu bar!
Not all was rosy at first.........I installed a demo on two different computers and both computers locked up when using ...it seemed to be very unstable. So I looked to tech support and could not find anyone to call.....so I entered the support forum and posted what happened. My answer came within 24 hours in a dialogue with another user. After that the program ran relatively flawless. A note.....this program can consume a lot of resources on a Win 9.x/Me system and anti-virus software will cause it to crash - SOLUTION: turn your anti-virus software off and make sure you don't have a lot of unnecessary background programs running........give it lots of breathing room! FP is used a lot because it has a relatively easy look and feel but once you get used to FP, the quirks and limitations begin to show. In DW if you are interesting in seeing how code is formed, just switch to the Code/view and 2 windows open - your WYSIWYG window and the HTML code above! Great! Conclusion: Download the Demo from Macromedia - don't be put off by the seemingly complicated interface, play around and see for yourself. Then buy it.
- In terms of pure dreamweaver functionality, this version doesnt have any ground breaking advances, but by the inclusion of ultra-devs data driven dynamic site development tools, dreamweaver and ultra-dev have finally merged into one product dreamweaver mx.
Having been a user of both Dreamweaver and Ultra-dev since their arrival on the pro web design scene, this represents a big change in one respect in that data driven web sites are now being delivered into the hands of every web site producer with the same product they use to design simple pages. The most exiting thing for me is the new PHP feature, and in this i find Macromedia continuing in their trend of offering what their users are most hungry for, now i have no excuse for not learning PHP. In terms of changes to the actual core design product, i have been happily switching between dreamweaver 4 and mx, and theres nothing in mx that i cant live without, obviously im not here refering to the dynamic data side of things here. thankfully you can work with mx and make it look like the old dreamweaver interface, im currently working with the new integrated interface, and it all looks a bit frontpage to me, ill give it a chance though, admittedly it is slighly more efficient, but its just starting to look a lot less like a design tool, and a lot more like a developers tool. Of the new features the ability to creare code snippets is pretty handy, but nothing too revolutionary, and the tag-inspector does speed up speed of changes to the code minded, but again nothing very new. if your using dreamweaver for mainly design orientated web production, its possible the new features may not be enough to sway the upgrade, one big plus is the support for all the new and emergent technologies and standards, xml, xhtml, and as i mentioned earlier PHP on the dynamic side. Dreamweaver is still the leading professional web design tool, it will reward all the learning by giving an easy to use cutting edge web development tool. The huge community of developers and users who provide countless extensions to dreamweaver allow easy adaption to whatever tasks it may be put.
- I've used FrontPage, FirstPage 2000, and other site design packages. MX is THE most comprehensive site design product on the market to date. With integrated Flash, PHP, ASP, JSP, and others support, it makes site design easier. Too bad they don't support the processing of forms; hopefully that will come with time.
From a CIW certified professional.
- I have been a user of Dreamweaver through versions 3 and 4. When I redesigned my site to make extensive use of CSS, I found that DW4 had a difficult time rendering the pages and would often crash. So, reading that MX had better CSS support, I upgraded based solely on that.
Indeed, Dreamweaver MX handles my CSS-styled pages with aplomb. But to my delight, it adds many features which I have found invaluable, such as "Snippets" (a library of code fragments you can insert anywhere), the ability to "cloak" folders so that they are not included when synchronizing to the server (invaluable for log and statistics folders on the server), the FTP log, a much improved style sheet editor, a nicer and more configurable workspace, and much, much more. Dreamweaver MX is a delight to use and has made development and maintenance of my web sites even easier than in previous versions. If you have an earlier version of Dreamweaver, MX is definitely worth the upgrade. (And if you don't have Dreamweaver, you're missing out on what I think is the world's best web site design and maintenance product.)
