4 comments about F-Secure Internet Security 2007 - 3 PCs.
  1. I have used Symantec Mcafee, etc, F-Secure is the best by FAR. It won the top place in consumer reports 2006 review and seems to be top ranked by many other PC magazines. It is VERY easy to use and does constantly bug me to update! I love this!

  2. I have been looking at different security suite solution, and I feel this one is the best I've seen so far.

Let's start with firewall. By default, it is very easy to configure, but if you prefer more fine-tuned configuration that can meet your specific needs (hence, more complicated) then you can have it that way too, so it's one-fit-all. It also looks for suspicious behavior of the program, and it prevents such exploit from being executed as well.

Virus scanner uses the engine developed by Kaspersky, which often scores very high in pattern based virus scanning, and F-secure covers its weakness in heuristic detection by having extra methods of scanning.

I'd recommend F-Secure Internet Security for any who is looking for good PC security.

  3. This product is difficult to configure and when sending repeated requests for support I never got the help I needed. The responses looked like they never bothered to read my question. The response looked like a canned response that didn't relate to my problem. Like many products of this type they provide so much checking and blocking that performance is greatly affected. There are better products that are out there that are free. See
    http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/

  4. I have tried about all of them, and the problem is either they do not find everything or they just take up too much of the resources computer. Spywaredetector, made by this company, had a huge advantage. Once it went through the first scan, the next scan takes about 2 minutes or less. This is what I expected from the 2007 version of the Security Suite. I actually had emailed the company asking if they would ever come out with more than just a
spyware detector. Although the 2007 version did find everything and did not lock up the computer at all, it was somewhat slow. I went back to my usual combination of TrendPCCillin (which never finds everything, but at least
does not lock up the resources of your computer anymore) and SpywareDoctor. The latter now comes as Spyware Doctor with Antivirus, which I actually purchased as a two-user version online. It does find everything and well, but it locks up the computer to an unbelievable amount and it only comes in a 2 or 5 version version. I much prefer the 3 user version. Once I actually paid 75 dollars apiece for two installations of the Panda software known sold under the Staples brand name. This was TERRIBLE software that locked up the computer completely and the version of last year was apparently no better.

Of all of these, I think this is the best..if you are going to pay any money at least. With viruses hitting ever more, if you HAVE to use Windows, as I do, then this is the best, easiest, and least time-consuming software to use.

Right now, late September 2007, it seems you can only get it online from F-Secure (the 2008 version). They have a special going on..with comes with a free 1GB drive Flash drive..which I can always use and a small discount.

I think this is the best buy of all..in terms of you need only one program to do it all, and it does not lock up your computer at all.

Please feel free to ask me any question at all.

F-Secure is a leader in software to find viruses on mobile phones.

Also, I think this might be a very good company to invest your money in..if you are interested in investing in any Indian companies.

  1. All in all a fine product. Has gotten excellent reviews from PC MAG.

Norton slowed my machine to a crawl. This has not.

Suggest NEVER paying full retail for it unless you absolutely have to. I've been using it for a few years now and always manage to find a free after rebate deal on it a few months before the one year subscription period is up.

It does require the user to provide authorizations the first time it sees a programs attempting to access the web. For a non techie, this may seem a bit intimidating because there will be a lot of queries from it in the first few days of usage.

  2. The bottom line of what makes a company viable is great customer service after the sale when things don't go as planned. Customer Service exists but their reps claim they can't do anything about your problem. Their manners are less than acceptable. Rude seems to be the "in-thing" at this company. As consumers, we have options; one of which is to ge elsewhere. I am writing them off as a lost cause and taking my monetary loss as a lesson learned. It's too bad.

  3. Zonealarm by Checkpoint is one the best programs for protecting yourself. It is better than Norton Internet suite.

  4. I was a bit unsure whether I should buy a ZoneAlarm product or not. After extremely low protection from Norton Antivirus 2006, I decided to give this product a try. I'm glad I did. The product installs quickly with little reboots. It was also user-friendly and even let me upgrade to the latest software...FREE! It is definitely not like Norton; it does not use up a great amount of space or slow down programs. It is in fact the opposite. The software gives you a choice of whether to trust a certain program or network, which is the only downside if you are not familiar with computer program names. Still, it provides some if not the best computer protection on the market. I would highly recommend this, especially to Norton users.

  5. Have been running Zone Alarm Firewall for years. Also ran Norton Anti-Virus for years. My virus protection was just about to run out, I decided
to give ZoneAlarm Security Suite a try. I am now on my 3rd verision. It has stopped countless attemps from hackers trying to gain access to my computer as I'm connected 24/7 thru Charter High-Speed. It also has stopped a Trojan Horse Virus and the new mail filter works great!!!
No more spam mail about gross subjects my young daughters don't need to see. Do youself a favor, BUY ZoneAlarm Securit Suite and be done with it.

5 comments about Norton AntiSpam 2005 - Single User.
  1. I purchased the Norton Internet Security with the Norton Antispam hoping that it would eventualy solve my ever increasing amounts of spam in my inbox

With my daily routine of clicking this is spam - my Norton Antispam folder contained 8000 spam emails in 6 months. I checked my statistics and the logs to my astonishment - Norton Antispam did not scan 1 single email.

Reporting this 3 times during 1-2 hour live chat sessions (with their customer support) only proved to me that this product is as bad as all the reviews state. The "techs" provided me the same advice and fixs over and over again which, were all tried and failed. The phone support was equally as fustrating as the chat support and Symantec's outsourced technical support technicians seem to have a single cheat sheet page of solutions that never resolved any of my concerns.

I will do some additional research and choose anything but a symantec products. They were good in the past but failed miserably with this version. They get an D- for the software and a BIG F for customer support. Buyers Beware!!

  2. Search for Amazon item number 10099566 to see an overwhelming number of bad reviews of Norton AntiSpam 2004. They didn't improve the product much in the 2005 version. It is really disgusting that Symantec has leveraged the Norton brand, formerly known for quality, with the cynical money grab that is Norton AntiSpam. Absolute junk software, with comically bad support. I hope to see a class action lawsuit against Symantec for selling this product that they certainly know is defective in a myriad of ways.

  3. As a user of this and other Norton products and as a tech-support professional, I must tell you that the bad reviews are true. I used to be a big fan of Norton products until recently.

  4. I found this software to be VERY dissapointing. It just does not work very well? I use Incredimail as my e-mail provider, and find Norton AntiSpam to be less than helpful. It is very good at always mentioning Norton AntiSpam on my spam e-mails, problem is it doesn't block most of them? So what is the use of having an AntiSpam program? I find this product to be a total waste of money. Now I am really wondering about the quality of other Symantec Norton products in general?

  5. Norton can't be serious. This is truly the worst piece of software ever perpetrated upon mankind.

The most incredibly obvious pieces of spam are coming into my inbox by the hundreds, marked "Norton Anti Spam", even with my settings on the highest possible sensitivity.

The first and only piece of mail they marked as Spam was of course from a desired sender.

This is so bad I am amazed.

I only wish there was a rated lower than one. This is definitely in the sub zero regions.

  1. Each time i did something on this new release of SQL Server within some first weeks i was saying two phrases: "Wow! How can i live without this cool thing?" and "It's should be done erlier! It's so simple!". Thousands of new features, improvements. Now i will go home, because i do my work faster than i could think.

  3. There are some important additions, such as clustering and failover support, and a few niceties like user-defined functions and indexed views. Upgrading the data format from 7 to 8 was seamless, but replication was painful. Gone are the Enterprise Manager HTML-based pages at the machine level, replaced by a small maze of things to do to make replication happen. We finally had to reinstall the server to make replication happy. The help file on this topic is a joke. It reads something like "Step 1, configure replication. Step 2, start it up." with absolutely no detail.

My bottom line: take your time in upgrading.

  4. The Standard Edition is a good tool A better deal is buying the MSDN Universal Edition. Its price isn't much higher and it includes SQL Server 2000 plus the latest release of Windows XP, Windows 2000, all the .NET development tools, all of the servers, just about every Microsoft product that's not a game. And each month Microsoft will send update discs that include new versions, service packs and beta versions.

A really good choice if you are a developer. As an MCSE and MCDBA this is my tool of choice.

  5. The details describe this as new, full retail box. This is not the case. What we received was a cd with the license key sticker attacehed to the jewel case. The jewel case looked scratched and used.

5 comments about Panda Internet Security 2007.
  1. Unlike the previous two reviewers, I have had a very positive experience with Panda Internet Security 2007, and as such I am offering up a different perspective. All has not been perfect, but it has been positive overall and I can recommend this product based on my experience with it.

I upgraded to Panda Internet Security 2007, Platinum Edition (I'll just refer to it as "Panda" hereafter), from Trend Micro's PC-Cillin suite after a recurring issue forced me to make a decision. I had had good experiences with Trend and was loathe to change, so changing was not something I really wanted to do. After checking my options and doing some research, I decided to give Panda a chance.

Panda's installation was a bit sluggish but it was not unreasonably slow. It did all of the prerequisite checks before configuration and finally it determined that it was ready to install itself. The installation at this point was smooth and straightforward and when it was done it (understandably) asked me to reboot the system.

Once the system rebooted, I was off to the races. Panda immediately started to look at programs that were trying to access the network, it flagged me down when I had incoming port scan attacks, and it dutifully logged everything going on. It also did something else - it started giving pop-up bulletins. Within 30 minutes I must have received 3 or 4 pop-up bulletins that contained informational messages, not alerts that demanded attention. While these can be configured to not show up, I was just a little annoyed by the frequency under the default settings. These bulletins have decreased since that time.

Panda's first order of business was to eliminate everything it considered to be spyware. This equated to deleting a lot of cookies. Most of these were benevolent, but some were obviously tracking cookies. Panda also seems to be eliminating these types of things when they first reach the system, which in my opinion is a good policy.

The firewall does what you would expect a firewall to to - it keeps unwanted traffic out and it prevents programs from reaching the net without your knowledge or approval. A program can be "locked down" and denied all access, and through the firewall profile you can make changes and tweaks to access.

I did some testing with the antivirus, and it worked relatively quickly to scan the entire system. I was able to tell it to work in the background with reduced CPU requirements and as a result the system did not slow down enough to make it unusable. As of yet it has not found a virus on the system so I just don't know how it will react to one when/if it finds one. My assumption is that I will get another pop-up bulletin.

The integrated antispam has yet to prove itself. I use a different antispam product, but Panda still does an evaluation on every inbound message. So far it seems to be properly marking messages as spam or not spam by the footer it places at the bottom of every message, but the other product I use has done the bulk of the work already. I am waiting to see how Panda handles spam messages that slip through the gauntlet and into my inbox. What I have seen thus far suggests that it will probably manage well enough. The antispam does integrate with Outlook automatically and gives a couple of new buttons for classifying spam when it comes.

By default, the parental control feature is turned off, and I decided to turn it on. This is one of the features of Panda I don't especially like. It manages access through the parental controls by way of profiles with passwords. So, when you have an internet connection and you have parental controls turned on, Panda requires a password just to get out the net at all. Granted, this is only required one time for the connection, but it is cumbersome and annoying. This type of set-up is not well-suited for family computing but is better for office and academic environments. After testing it for a little while and determining that it seems to work fairly well, I turned it off to avoid getting chastised by my family. I would likely use this more if there was a way to tell it to filter the same way for everyone without requiring a password.

Panda queries for updates daily. This is reassuring to me, knowing that I am almost always very current and have the latest signature files. I regard this as mostly psychological though, as I doubt I will ever encounter a virus that is new enough to require this tight of an upgrade schedule. The heuristic scan feature of the antivirus is likely to handle anything like that anyway.

One of the more interesting features of Panda is the TruPrevent functionality. Basically, this is a behavioral analysis of applications and processes on the system, which looks for unusual or suspicious activity. So far this has turned up nothing on my system, but it is reassuing to know it's running in the background. This kind of analysis should be used cautiously, though, as there is always a potential for false positives.

Visually, Panda is a very simple and straightforward application with a no-nonsense interface. You are not going to be overwhelmed with buttons and sliders and lists and everything else all jumbled on the screen in one big box, but rather everything is kept as simple as possible. Sometimes this means having to dig a little to find the setting you need, but honestly I think the interface is reasonably self-explanatory.

The most difficulty I had with Panda was in registering the product. I got a pop-up bulletin that offered a discount if I registered then, and I had already made my mind up to do so, so I followed the offer link. I was taken to a page all in Spanish (this is not entirely unexpected as I believe that Panda is based in Spain). I manageed to reach the English equivalent page, entered the requisite information and the website returned a very short error message. I got through several hours later and got through the registration process, only to find that I was sold the wrong product from the link. To resolve the issue I had to call their office and work it out on the phone.

With only a couple of minor annoyances and one registration issue, I have had a very positive experience with Panda. The application is not overly burdensome to my computer, it seems to be very quick and efficient, and it has kept me informed of issues as they arise. I consider this a good solution and I am happy to recommend it.

  2. I bought this 1 week ago at a local Staples.. The box makes it sound like the solution to all your problems.. It also says they offer tech support 24 X 365..

Sounds great.... the problem is..it will not install on my computer. I keep getting a message to remove NORTON ANITVIRUS before I can install Panda. I removed NORTON and it no longer can be found thru control panel, remove software or thru a search of my hard drive.

PANDA still will not install. I keep getting the same message. UNINSTALL NORTON.

So I tried to contact tech support per the box. I found out they offer tech support 24 x 365 via email. I have sent 3 emails in a week and have received no response.

Bottom line is I have a product I cannot use.. TECH SUPPORT does not exist. It deserves 0 stars in my book. Spend your money somewhere else.

  3. I bought the 2006 edition of this & it stopped Win XP from even loading!! Therefore I could NOT use Norton Go-Back to remove it as it would not let windows completely load!! I had to take many hours re-installing Win XP as that was the only solution!! All my other programs needed re-installing too! It was as if I had a new computer except what was backed up!! DO NOT BUY THIS LOSER!!

  4. Very simple to use, it doesn't slow down my computer. Good protection for my PC

  5. I was sick of all the spyware getting through Norton. This program also lets me know of attempted piggybackers (I use 128bit encryption) and how much spyware actually tries to get on my computer (650+), and I hate porn as it is degrading to women, so its not from that. It has its moments like reminding me everyday of MS spyware but there is no fix for Bill's spying.
I love my bear. And it was cheap!!!! Made in USA.

  1. For $30 I was able to add Iphone functions to my smartphone. I mostly use the music function and it is easy to use and eliminates the need to carry my Ipod around. I am also developing a fairly large photo collection on my phone and flipping through them was easy. I see a lot of friends struggling to find the photo they want, but the Revue software made that easy. Installation was easy and the price is fair.
