5 comments about PC Tools Spyware Doctor 2007.
  1. As of March 25 I'm having the same experience as others here: SD does catch problems other scanners miss, and can successfully remove some infestations other products do not. However while Ver 4 worked properly, with the real-time protection enabled Ver 5 slowed all three of my fully patched XP SP2 systems to the point where they are unusable, then eventually freezes the system. My advice is that if you MUST use this product to removed a specific infection you enable it for that specific purpose than immediately disable it afterwards.

  2. I had used previous versions of Spyware Doctor for years without any major problems. I recently tried to install the 5.5 Upgrade and it resulted in a frozen screen, and hours of recovery efforts. You better know how to start your system in Safe Mode, and use Recovery Points when you try to install this mess. PC Tools does not respond to your service requests, and my Service Ticket has gone unanswered for a week. It's like there is nobody at PC Tools to help. My advice is to stay away from this giant fiasco caused by Spyware Doctor 5.5 unless you want to practice your system recovery skills.

  3. It used to work before version 5, but now kills my PC. My only option was to restore to an earlier date. A ".dll" file was then missing and it would not automatically run - thank goodness. Version five point whatever is worse than junk. I was able to 'fix' my PC by 'restore', and when I downloaded SD again, the same thing happened. I don't need to download it a third time to prove to myself that is the problem. It killed the PC speed to almost nothing each time it was re-installed.

  4. OMG DO NOT buy this program. It will slow your computer to a crawl. There are free programs that work so much better.

And they will trick you into "auto renewing" by not telling you that it's a default setting (this should be illegal) and won't warn you, either. They'll just keep sucking money out of your bank account every year, because they know that's the only way they'll ever get a repeat customer.
And you also cannot remove your bank account/ credit card info from your PCTools account. They keep it, giving you NO CHOICE to remove it.

    CROOKS, IMO. Stay away.

  5. I use to love spyware Dr. and as a tech for 12 years highly reccomended it for use in all my customers PCs. Then they came out with ver.5 and made it a service. If you dont know what that is , it's more deeply ingrained in the system and can wreak havopc if not properly designed. I decided to give ver. 6 a chance as a part of google pack you can select a free updateable starter version with the background guard and just a few less important things disabled. It renewed my interest as everything is working great on it. I just wish they had a full version 15 day trial to check out the rest. I do not see it listed with the rest of windows services and this may be why the started editions working but for the processor guard they offer in the full version, there may be problems. The free full version test run will not clean out what it find , unlike the starter ver. but at least you can see if it's going to wreak havov and have to be removed before you purchase it. For most of you the starter edition is a good way to familiarize yourself with the program. Run a full not intelligent scan the first time and if you are installing Google pack to get the freebee, make sure you uncheck or don't check the box that enables google to scan your info.

  1. If you design website with Dreamweaver (works with non-Dreamweaver sites, but without Dreamweaver's integrated templates capability that locks portions of the page) that others will need to edit...AND you don't want them to break it, then Contribute is the product for you!

Allows you set user permissions that control what a user can edit, how they can edit a page, how they (and if they) can add images, whether they can publish or their draft needs reviewed, and saves rollback copies so any damage can be undone!

The user interface is easy and user-friendly - the user browses the site they wish to edit (and have permission to do so) and then edits the page. Simple.

This works best for the editor of a site created and maintained by Dreamweaver. And, it will make every Dreamweaver designer happier, healthier, and allow for the opportunity to spend your time making money designing a new site as opposed to the drudgery of continually editing an old site.

This is a great solution for non-profit clients who want to be able to update at will, but have too small a budget to afford a full web application design or can't afford to pay a web designer to continually make changes and updates to the content.

  2. Not bad for ease of connecting and editing. the WYSIWYG is not always accurate and sometimes takes several attempts to make it come out right, and you should check your final product on all browsers, IE, Firefox and Safari. Still a little clunky to format, and tricky to work with pictures. In fact the new version seems to have more steps to get a final product, and some features that made sizing and placement easier are gone, or more difficult to do. But this version is more stable, haven't crashed it nearly as often. It's ok, and certainly much more professional than some other web page editing products I've worked with.

4 comments about eBlaster 5.0.
  1. While this application sounds really good, it turns out to be very easy to fool both for chats and emails. If anyone even suspects that they are being monitored, it can easily be defeated. For example, it only works really well if the computer being monitored is using Outlook or Outlook Express. The application cannot forward attachments from any other mail applications, so just send your messages in a attachements; eBlaster will not even know who you forwarded the message to. GMail, Yahoo Mail, etc. are not handled very well. To fool the chat, all that you need to do is use something else besides the keyboard as input. I learned this from a user with XP Table PC. They just sketched all of their chats on MSN (which is set up to do this for all tablets) and none of the information came across eBlaster. Also, the whiteboard feature readly supports passing information around eBlaster's recording mechanism for those who just have a mouse. If it is not one of the popular chat application like MSN or Yahoo, eBlaster only gets the user's outgoing messages from the keystrokes that get captured; there are apparently too many chat applications for eBlaster to monitor and all incoming information is not recorded. Also, for chats, none of the advanced features of the chat applications are supported. So a normal conversation could be carried out over the keyboard, while the whiteboard or simple file swapping can be used without anything being captured by eBlaster. eBlaster is too explensive too expensive for what it does and how easily it can be duped.

  2. eBlaster gives you piece of mind by letting you know what your kids are doing on the Internet when you are not around. It even lets you know who they are talking to and the content of those chats, which is very important given some of the dangerous people on the Internet these days. eBlaster records Outlook emails, Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL email. It also records AOL chats, AOL IM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Trillian and Yahoo Chats. It also records the web sites your kids are visiting and the keystrokes they type. Then, once an hour, it emails you the reports. So, you can still be at work, the kids can be home from school, and you will be able to know whether they are getting into danger online. This is also appropriate for employers who need to be away from the office and need to know that their employees are actually working and not spending a lot of time goofing off on the Internet. If you don't want to receive reports every hour, you can set eBlaster up to send reports less frequently, such as once every few hours, or just once a day. I have been using eBlaster for more than a year and have found the program to be quite solid and reliable and to perform as advertised. I have also found the company to be readily available to answer questions via email and via a toll-free telephone number and, according to their web site, they take phone calls 7 days a week and publish their toll-free number front and center on their home page. Highly recommended.

  3. I've been using eblaster 5.0 for about 2 weeks now and it's been helpful but it has holes.

The keystroke logger is limited to about 512 characters. I didn't know this when I bought it. This limitation is disclosed in the help files, but is not plainly disclosed in the advertisement of the product and I think it should be. So if your child/spouse types a long email message, you only get the first 512 characters or so.

Of course, captured keystrokes aren't important if eblaster 5.0 forwards you a copy of incoming and outgoing emails. But this points out another weakness: at least in my case, eEblaster 5.0 cannot grab any emails sent or received from an email server behind a corporate firewall. I use Citrix on my home PC to access my employer's email server. Eblaster 5.0 does not capture either the incoming or outgoing mails generated from that server. Keystrokes are captured, but it's only the first 512 characters, and keystrokes only pertain to the outgoing message, not the incoming message.

Another weakness is that eblaster 5.0 can only capture incoming emails that are opened. If a pedophile sends your child an email a day and your child deletes them without opening them, you'd never know. It's great that your kid didn't open them, but wouldn't you want a copy anyway?

I have no experience with the chat capture functionality so I won't comment on it.

  4. BUYER BEWARE! When I tried to install this software, I had some problems getting it to work. I called the software support number and was told that there was an update and this version is no longer supported by the manufacturer. I was told that this version has a problem installing correctly if ant-virus software is also running. Turning off anti-virus software will allow for a proper install. Otherwise the software appears to be working well. I was also offered a discount to upgrade to the newer version and was told that the above mentioned problem had been fixed in the new version.

1 comments about McAfee Total Protection 08 for PC - 3-Users.
  1. The latest incarnation of McAfee's Total Protection (version 2008) seems to have gone backwards in time. Nowadays, when the trend is for users to go wireless, McAfee has decided to strip out their wireless network security component from their Total Protection 2008 suite. This component was integrated into the 2007 version, but for some reason now you need to download it from their website and install it independently. THIS IS HOW THE NIGHMARE BEGINS!!!!!!!
Once installed, the wireless component will then start prompting you endlessly for its own individual registration; but the registration will fail because it conflicts with the registration of the Total Protection suite. Countless hours of non-free (yes, McAfee DOES NOT have free telephone support even for installation issues) have not solved the issue. They instructed me to download and run a special removal tool they have for their software. McAfee's Total Protection does not uninstall itself completely using Windows' Add/Remove option. Then they had me install the wireless component first and then the Total Protection suite, but the same kept happening. They even took over my computer remotely but failed to produce results.
I have been dealing with McAfee for days now and no resolution has been attained. By the way, this is happening consistently in 6 computers I have in my network. In a time when the computer protection segment of the software industry is getting more and stronger competitors (Kaspersky, Bit Defender, Computer Associates and now Microsoft) than ever before, McAffe is falling on their face. SAVE YOURSELF A NIGHTMARE!!!!!

5 comments about Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition.
  1. I have been a satisfied Norton user for 8 years now. As usual, I was about to upgrade my 2004 Norton Internet Security module to the new 2006 update, here's what happened:

    1. I was asked to remove all my Norton software from my computer before installing the download (duh! I had no back up of the program or install file on my original software.)
    2. The program de-installed Spam Blocker from Norton as well as NISS.
    3. The 2006 upgrade installed smoothly. Went to try and get onto the internet with my Microsoft Outlook that I had been using for the last 5 years and it would not work.
    4. Called technical support (India). Took four calls before I could get anyone that I could understand.
    5. Told me to de-install and re-install (twice) 2006. Did that. Still would not work.
    6. Support technician said the problem was Microsoft Outlook or Explorer that had been working fine until I installed 2006 upgrade.
    7. Spent 5 days trying to get help. Finally took all Norton off my computer. Explorer and Outlook worked fine. Lost Spam Blocker, but reinstalled and is integrating well with Outlook.
    8. Called American Express and told them to void my American Express charge of $49.95 to Symantec.

Will attempt to put just Norton Virus Control back on my computer since I still think it is the best, but will never consider Norton Internet Security Software of any kind in the future.

    Mike

PS - I just extended my service contract on my other computer using the Norton 2004 software and it is working fine.

  2. After reading many reviews, both postitive and negative, of the Norton Internet Security 2005 Antispyware Edition, I went ahead and purchased it. I have been a Norton user for years, so I decided to take a chance. It installed easily and worked beautifully for almost two months. Then my computer started crashing. After many attempts to find the root of the problem and after much expense, I am convinced, as other reviewers warned, the Norton software is to blame. Now I cannot turn off my computer without its crashing; I am unable to update my antivirus protection because I get a message via the Norton software that it cannot make an Internet connection. (I have followed all directions for correcting this that is found on the Norton website, but nothing works.) Also, the software really slows down the receiving of email. And forget getting any help from Norton other than what is written on their website. In essence, I have paid a hefty sum for software that causes crashes, causes sluggish performance and worst of all, cannot give me up-to-date protection. I feel totally ripped off. So tonight I am going to uninstall Norton (which from past experience I suppose will involve more than a simple uninstall click) and try PC-cillin.
I would recommend any potential Norton buyers to beware.

  3. NIS 2005 AntiSpyware edition came with my Dell computer that I purchased that year. While I'm satisfied with the protection that it gives me, I find that the computer moves very slowly at times, especially at startup. When I start up my computer, I take a 5 minute snack break to make better use of my time. I've since updated to the 2007 version and observe the same thing. Norton has too much going on in the background, which greatly compramises system speed. For optimum protection with greater efficiency (smaller footprint), I recommend trying NOD 32 Antivirus, available through [...].

  4. I had to send back to Symantec. It would not download on my computer as I have Windows ME. I was told the 2005 edition would download on my computer, but it wouldn't. They are sending me a refund.

I appreciate the fast service and the good attitude on the phone, and politeness given to me. They were ready to please the customer.

    Rita C.Clark

  5. They shipped the wrong product I asked for 2000 they sent 2005 which is not compatable with my operating system so Now I can't even use the product.
