1. I really enjoy using this software firewall. Once you set it up, it is very easy to use, and very effective, too. I highly recommend using this product, especially if you use DSL like I do. Don't go on the internet without using this product, and with the privacy filter, you are protected.



2. I installed and used ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall based upon much internet research, and I have liked it. It was user friendly and did not appear to present much of a drag on my system (AMD Athlon 950 Mhz, 500 MB DDRAM, Win XP Home, SP 2). My later research, however, found readings suggesting that the AV component was not as strong as some. For that reason, I eventually switched to BitDefender Plus 10, which is my current program. However, I don't think you can go wrong with ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall.

This program comes highly recommended by the techies, but the average computer user needs to be aware that Zone Alarms technical support site has very limited and difficult to decipher information. You don't get even one contact with a customer support representative unless you pay a stiff fee. Initially, it appeared that Zone Alarm's approach to protection from the nasties on the internet was to deny me all internet access. I found some helpful information from another ZA user, and I still have ZA installed, but if the company had been my only resource, I would have had to trash the whole program. Periodically, I still have problems with ZA denying me internet access unless I reboot my computer.



4. I bought this as a download directly from the Zone Alarm webiste. (I didn't realize it was available on Amazon. The online price was $59.70 - Amazon is half that.) Anyway, after downloading the firewall, I had to reboot the computer. Every time I clicked on any desktop icon, the whole computer froze. Even clicking on something like Microsoft word would cause the computer to freeze. I couldn't even turn off the computer from the desktop because the mouse wouldn't work. I had to hold in the on/off button on the computer to turn it off. After about fifteen reboots (literally), I was able to get to the control panel and I tried to uninstall the darned garbage. Guess what? It would not let me uninstall it - AAAARGHHH!!!! I am not a computer whiz so I tried calling their tech support. The recording says to enter your credit card number and then a tech will talk to you for $2.95 a minute. My mama didn't raise dummies. I hung up - no sense throwing good money after bad. I'm going to call my credit card company and see if they can delete the download charge. I was finally able to get to system restore, but it wouldn't let me run that either. I have a program on my computer called Norton Ghost and I was eventually able to get that to run. It erased my hard drive completely and restored it to what it was 2 days earlier (I have a back up hard drive for just such purposes). I hoped this would work and it did. Bottom line: Avoid this firewall - it is pure, unadulterated trash. The only reason I gave this one star is because Amazon does not have a negative star option. By the way, I use Windows XP service pack 2.



5. Takes a little effort to get all the permissions set up but it has definitely stopped several excursions by unwanted others into my laptop. Does a good job as a Cookie Killer too

1. A powerful documentation tool! This is the tool to use when assembling documents of 30 pages or more. Despite its higher price tag, Framemaker offers users the greatest bang for the buck. Learning Frame (as it's know for short) isn't much more difficult than learning MS Word. And it offers far more power and flexibility. Above all, Framemaker is very stable software. I've worked extensively with Framemaker and MS Word and I've found Frame to be much more stable and reliable.

   A bonus with this package is that it comes with the complete Adobe Acrobat package which allows you to create and distribute PDF files instantly.

   Microsoft Word works well to a point, but falters once the length and complexity of your documents start to grow. For the big jobs, count on Framemaker.




2. My institution standardizes on MS Word (it's free therefore for me touse) yet MS Word's various automatic actions prevent me fromcontrolling what the pages I type end up looking like. I cannot stand that as I generate business brochures for picky audiences. I MUST control every aspect of what the final page looks like. Framemaker lets me do that. I also write lots of books, nice long 1000 page ones (2000 manuscript pages when double spacing is required). Doing a book on MSWord (the two times I tried) was a disaster. MSWord is not designed for large documents, Framemaker is. I do not have time for reviews like this but I feel strongly about this product. If you want control, buy it; if you want reliable performance, buy it; if you write long documents, buy it. I have been using this product for ten years, and, I am extremely grateful to Microsoft corporation for reducing the prices of all the software I use. So, I regret that MS Word is unusable for the type of documents I prepare. I like the company but this Framemaker product simply performs better for long documents that need each page's appearance expertly controlled.



3. Unlike the endless features and automatic actions of MSWord, Framemaker is more streamlined. It's functional set is an excellent balance of word processing and page layout, combined with features that ease the creation of multi-chapter documents.

   The interface is highly intuitive, as is the page layout metaphor. The styles (page, paragraph, character) are easy to use, as well. Best of all, Framemaker does not have the endless automatic bells and whistles that often has MSWord acting in unexplainable and undefeatable ways.

   Frame is an industrial strength tool for creating everything from a one-page letter or note to a thousand page manual.

2. I liked this product so well I ordred the 2007 edition when it became available. The price is great! You get a hard copy for the price of a download.



3. Although Norton AV and System Works - actually most products I purchased from Symantec/Norton - work well... they are starting to look like dinosaurs in the market. I like that the AV component (I've used Norton AV for years, bundled or not) has let only a few pieces of non-harmful malware thru.
   
   NIS 2006 with default install leaves a lot to be desired - more updates and reboots than installing Windows itself. If you have problems, and wish to roll back (system restore), you have to uninstall the product - to completely remove its traces - it's almost easier to do a clean install of XP again.
   
   I'm not fond of any company that embeds FUD (upsell) in their products - NIS 06 is full of half-full green circles warning me I'm not fully protected or optimized, click here to (buy this or that) to fix the problem.
   
   I also have Systemworks Premiere - and after about a year and half of experience - I can only say I wish I had not bought the bundles, but the stand-alones.
   
   Although a single source vendor for PC security and utility needs is convenient... it isn't convienent when the solution becomes the problem.
   
   I hope they turn it around in 07/08.



4. I was not happy with the resource hogging nature of the software. Only used it a short while. Part of problem is it requires a large amount of RAM & my PC was a little old. Expansion helped but it still took over at times.



5. Terrible program. Always in your face, kind of like windows does but even worse. Just want to install and forget, not have to interface with every day. Really slowed down the computer. Even uninstalling this app took unbelievably long. Norton really seems to make their apps way more complicated than necessary.

1. I purchased this software from a recommendation of a friend. I wanted to remotely monitor my business ip camera. The camera was not on the very limited list of cameras and did not connect. When I called the tech department they said I needed to get the current version that has my camera listed. When I downloaded the new software it had my camera and I was able to locally access it but not remotely. When I called again they said I need to change my router and computer settings to make it work and I should call geek squad to do it. It is a useless and complicated program and far beyond my pretty good computer skills.



2. The product description says it works "with any wired or wireless IP camera", however I have not been able to get it to work with the wireless security cameras I bought for my home so that I could monitor them from work via the internet. I cannot even get past the initial setup as the software doesn't recognize the cameras. This product may work well with a webcam or something similar but does not do what I need it for.

1. I agree with Mark in the fact that it did not work correctly out of the box. The datapilot software could not find the phone, but the computer with out the software running found it with out any trouble. In order for the software to work correctly I had to update it. Now it works fine, and I like the easy user interface. Over all I would say it is a good product. Be ready to update the software which is a bit of a large file if you do not have high speed internet.



2. This product works fine, however the software that comes with it is a pain to install, and will not work until you install all updates.



3. This software/hardware works but not without some effort. The documentation seems to reflect either an older or newer release, but certainly not this release. Every thing I tried to do took a lot longer to accomplish than it should and took several false starts. The whole interface needs a lot of rework to bring it into the 20th century. Nothing is intuitive.
