- I purchased this software solely for the bleaching. While this program can bleach files on your hard drive, it does nothing to bleach unused HD space. So, files deleted before this program was installed can still potentially be on your disk. Since the technology is there, I don't see why this feature can't be added.
Even though it is very handy software and I don't intend to return it, I feel I was fooled into buying it by their claim "Wash away all traces of your PC and Internet activity..."
- window washer is for lazy people that can't open =internet options= and click the delete keys
Don't be lazy & save $30.00
- I highly recommend this product. I searched the web and tried many trial versions and this one was the best. The reason you wouldn't want to delete the files from the temp folders is because your computer could easily crash. This is pretty stable on my XP computer and is great for clearing the cache on a regular basis, you don't have to worry about deleting the wrong files. If you have ever gotten controlled by pop ups this is your answer. Just disconnect from your online connection or network and clean your system with this. Then rush and get a pop up blocker tool bar! As far as clearing your hard drive free space I wouldn't worry about that until you are ready to get rid of your old computer. This software also has updates and I'm sure will have upgrades to other features soon. Forgot to mention, if you burn cds or dvds this will help you clear your temp folders to free up space. I burned some dvds and wondered why my computer didn't have enough space. I ran the Window Washer and all of a sudden I could burn dvds again. Hate to sound like I am promoting this so much but after running the trial version all month long I had to buy it!
- I have used window washer for over 10 years. Works good for cleaning up & bleaching unwanted files. Works better then others I have used.I am happy with it.
- I downloaded this program from Webroot. I already had Webroot Spy Sweeper, which is a very good program by itself. Window Washer was listed as the second best privacy software by TopTenReviews after the much more expensive Evidence Eliminator.
When I first ran Window Washer it seemed to do a very good job of erasing various extraneous information and freed up nearly 1 GB of space on my hard drive. But one annoying aspect was that it changed the look of my display fonts. After much searching and no response from Webroot, I found the solution. In Window Washer go to Options, then Program Settings, then UNCHECK "Automatically set Window Washer fonts to Microsoft Clear Type".
There are some online discussion forums that claim that the Window Washer "Bleach" function doesn't always work. I haven't tried it so I don't know about that.
Overall this program seems to do a good cleaning job and is fairly easy to use.
Update: Caution- when I used the "Clean free space" option, I could no longer connect with the Internet. Don't know what that problem is.

- Overall: Contribute (3/5), Contribute Publishing Server (3/5)
Capabilities: Contribute (3/5), Contribute Publishing Server (3/5)
Support: 0
Pirce: 3/5
Contribute is a good product. Unfortunately, the Publishing Server is no longer supported by Macromedia or Adobe, and none of their sales reps know anything about the product. Their support department will charge you for a support incident, only to tell you afterwards they don't know who to go to for support on the product.
For easy site editing, and if you don't need the publishing server component, which was nice while it lasted, then Contribute is fine. It supports rolling back to previous versions and is easy enough to use.
However, the Contribute's real reason d'etre was for enterprise document editing with control over what users could edit, the ability to rollback all the user changes, and control who has access to what, all controlled by the Contribute Publishing Server (a.k.a. CPS).
Do NOT download the Trial version of CPS. You can't get a license out of Adobe for it, and Adobe couldn't find the media (the CD, or an installer for the full, non-trial version) when we tried to get it.
Overall, I liked Contribute, until the 30 day trial ran out and I found out, after almost $1,000 was spent on licenses, that Adobe still sells it but doesn't support it. The third-party sales rep apologized, complained to Adobe that they sell an expensive product they don't support, and refunded the money.
Feel free to try the trial of Contribute, but stay away from the publishing server. If you like it, buy it, but don't expect any support from Adobe. Apparently this is a product that was lost somewhere in the transition of Adobe's Macromedia takeover.
- If you design website with Dreamweaver (works with non-Dreamweaver sites, but without Dreamweaver's integrated templates capability that locks portions of the page) that others will need to edit...AND you don't want them to break it, then Contribute is the product for you!
Allows you set user permissions that control what a user can edit, how they can edit a page, how they (and if they) can add images, whether they can publish or their draft needs reviewed, and saves rollback copies so any damage can be undone!
The user interface is easy and user-friendly - the user browses the site they wish to edit (and have permission to do so) and then edits the page. Simple.
This works best for the editor of a site created and maintained by Dreamweaver. And, it will make every Dreamweaver designer happier, healthier, and allow for the opportunity to spend your time making money designing a new site as opposed to the drudgery of continually editing an old site.
- I've been using Contribute 3 Win/Mac for four months now to update my website.
I have three complaints:
1. Updating with Contribute 3 is very slow because of waiting while going back and forth between the 'Edit' and 'Publish' modes - even though I have hi-speed cable and a 1GHz G4 Mac.
2. Line spacing in Edit mode does not agree with spacing when I go to Publish mode. So has to be done over by trial and error, usually several times as it's erratic and hard to outguess. And all this is dragged out by item 1 above.
3. Contribute does not allow viewing and editing Source Code. Hard to understand why they left this out as it's an integral part of web editing.

- I purchased this software from a recommendation of a friend. I wanted to remotely monitor my business ip camera. The camera was not on the very limited list of cameras and did not connect. When I called the tech department they said I needed to get the current version that has my camera listed. When I downloaded the new software it had my camera and I was able to locally access it but not remotely. When I called again they said I need to change my router and computer settings to make it work and I should call geek squad to do it. It is a useless and complicated program and far beyond my pretty good computer skills.
- The product description says it works "with any wired or wireless IP camera", however I have not been able to get it to work with the wireless security cameras I bought for my home so that I could monitor them from work via the internet. I cannot even get past the initial setup as the software doesn't recognize the cameras. This product may work well with a webcam or something similar but does not do what I need it for.

5 comments about PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 [Old Version].
- This anti-virus (and everything else) software was highly recommended by my company's network tech. For stand-alone computer home use, it is significantly better than any others (especially Norton) because it is not a memory hog, so doesn't slow your machine down.
- Buyer beware. If you encounter a technical issue with this product and require a refund, you're out of luck. They will send you in endless circles attempting to get a product refund. There are many other good products out there that do the same thing. It's really easy to purchase, but impossible to get a refund!
- Terrible product, confusing, not easy to use like McAfee. Not meant for a basic computer user.
- I've been using Trend Micro products (as I mentioned on a previous review of TM antivirus products) on all our computers for 4 years, so naturally I ordered the 3-Pack of the 2007 version when it became available. Big mistake. It's got so many watchdog features that your computer is popping up warning messages everytime you visit a website. My main gripe is that it slows down my Gmail account so much that completing an email without a freeze-up for 45-90 seconds is virtually impossible.
Now the good news. The 2006 and prior versions of Trend Micro have been wonderful- simple to use and effective. As I said, they've kept a bunch of computers virus-free for years, unlike some of the other Big Boys in the internet security business, which we used previously. Our computers are online much of the time, and in spite of high internet usage, they have been virus-free. The software is easy to use, and it's got all the needed bells & whistles, offering effectless protection, without slowing down your computer.
I highly recommend the 2006 version, which is available here on Amazon and at other online retailers.
- If you computer is old and you want an all in one AV suite you got two choices. Trend Micro PCcillin or Kaspersky's Internet Security 7. I have tried everything on the market but McAfee and my customers have had problems with that one!
I've tried Kaspersky's and it seemed effective but the popups will kill you if your not an experienced user, and it is super expensive also. No thanks - I'll take this old reliable to anything on the market. Some of the features seem flakey or ineffective and I will tip my hat to that; but bottom line is I have tested this in a combat field environment and have not had a major infection yet.
Before installing ANY antivirus product make SURE the previous one is FULLY uninstalled. This in itself will be a chore if you have Norton, because you will have to run their uninstallation cleanup even after you get rid of it and you still won't get it all.
Next be sure and do a Trend Micro "Housecall" online scan to make sure you clean all the baddies Norton and the other junk left behind. I do not recommend using this instead of installing AV ware because the new bugs out there are getting more NOT less sophisticated. Trend's IS 2006 is the minumum you will get away with for a while until it is discontiued and that is the subject of a whole other discussion.. You might get away with using Avast or AVG but you wouldn't have the cool features that IS 2006 comes with!
If you don't trust Trend's firewall don't install it with the suite - they give you the option to do this but you will not be able to use the anti-phishing feature that it gives to Internet Explorer 6. If you are using IE 7 you probabley won't need it but the bad website blocking will still work without the firewall installed. DO NOT try to blow past this good feature as this is what makes up for having older AV software! Bad web site blocking will keep you from picking up the worst malware that can takeover a computer using every exploit known to man.
Be sure to go to their /download/engine.asp page to get the latest scan engine and update to the newest version of IS 2006. This page is hard to find so use Trend's chat service to get the information if you can't find it(have your license key ready). DO NOT upgrade to 2007 unless you have 2Gb of RAM. All new AV suites hog huge RAM processing space..
Last but not least don't rely on one suite fits all to completely protect your computer this solution is the minimum. Some people swear by Spyware Doctor another RAM hog or Spysweeper another RAM hog. But Spybot Search and Destroy gets along famously with IS 2006 and will get you buy until you can afford a new computer with HUGE RAM!
There are many good utilities you can add to this to enhance your security but DO NOT use two firewalls together and two antiviruses together, THIS DOES NOT WORK. Anyone you tells you different doesn't have enough experience to know any better. I wish there was enough space and time to give folks who have older computers more advice but I would probablly get kicked off Amazon for boring you with the details. Happy SAFE computing!
P.S. To tell you the truth I am using this suite only because of the privacy data protection. As soon as Agnitum gets their firewall version of this perfected I will switch to them. At that time I might go with free Avast or Avira for an AV suite.

- This software failed to block most of the banner ads that show up in my.yahoo and interfered with other websites that I access on a regular basis, notably the Wall Street Journal, Forbes.com., and even amazon. I constantly found myself turning it off. Moreover, during the six months that I ran it, there was only one update.
That's not to say that I didn't hear from Intermute. They bombarded my inbox with advertisements for innumerable other products.
I have since moved to AdShield, which works much better.
- I always seem to see such annoying pop up ads all the time on the internet. It just seems to be such a constant problem. I really don't know why, but I guess it is just to get people interested in your progress. That just happens to so many of us all the time. It just gets a bit crazy. Yet, there are just so many programs that work quite well from several companies, and several internet companies that also have those programs including iwon.com, msn.com, and other places and software brands that don't do the trick. Intermute has definitely found a way to block most of those ads.
AdSubtract Pro, is a convient software that goes beyond previous or other companies and their programs with annoying pop-up ads. The software definitely can block all those annoying ad, as well as pop-under ads that can sneak by and go through other pop-up blocker programs. The software is very simple to install, and is very convient. It does a very good job at removing most of those ads, but not all of them. The filtering makes it also easy for you to save all you online logins without having to constantly reload your passwords for several websites you are logged to. It also checks your stats, and includes a online tester, and links to intermute.com, where you can try several other programs from intermute including SpySubtract Pro, and SpamSubtract as well.
Although this might cost a pretty penny, AdBlocker Pro really works very well at getting rid of most of thos annoying pop-up windows and banner ads. While many might choose other pop-up blockers because of their price, this is one software that really works like a charm.

- I really enjoy using this software firewall. Once you set it up, it is very easy to use, and very effective, too. I highly recommend using this product, especially if you use DSL like I do. Don't go on the internet without using this product, and with the privacy filter, you are protected.
- I installed and used ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall based upon much internet research, and I have liked it. It was user friendly and did not appear to present much of a drag on my system (AMD Athlon 950 Mhz, 500 MB DDRAM, Win XP Home, SP 2). My later research, however, found readings suggesting that the AV component was not as strong as some. For that reason, I eventually switched to BitDefender Plus 10, which is my current program. However, I don't think you can go wrong with ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall.
- This program comes highly recommended by the techies, but the average computer user needs to be aware that Zone Alarms technical support site has very limited and difficult to decipher information. You don't get even one contact with a customer support representative unless you pay a stiff fee. Initially, it appeared that Zone Alarm's approach to protection from the nasties on the internet was to deny me all internet access. I found some helpful information from another ZA user, and I still have ZA installed, but if the company had been my only resource, I would have had to trash the whole program. Periodically, I still have problems with ZA denying me internet access unless I reboot my computer.
- I bought this as a download directly from the Zone Alarm webiste. (I didn't realize it was available on Amazon. The online price was $59.70 - Amazon is half that.) Anyway, after downloading the firewall, I had to reboot the computer. Every time I clicked on any desktop icon, the whole computer froze. Even clicking on something like Microsoft word would cause the computer to freeze. I couldn't even turn off the computer from the desktop because the mouse wouldn't work. I had to hold in the on/off button on the computer to turn it off. After about fifteen reboots (literally), I was able to get to the control panel and I tried to uninstall the darned garbage. Guess what? It would not let me uninstall it - AAAARGHHH!!!! I am not a computer whiz so I tried calling their tech support. The recording says to enter your credit card number and then a tech will talk to you for $2.95 a minute. My mama didn't raise dummies. I hung up - no sense throwing good money after bad. I'm going to call my credit card company and see if they can delete the download charge. I was finally able to get to system restore, but it wouldn't let me run that either. I have a program on my computer called Norton Ghost and I was eventually able to get that to run. It erased my hard drive completely and restored it to what it was 2 days earlier (I have a back up hard drive for just such purposes). I hoped this would work and it did. Bottom line: Avoid this firewall - it is pure, unadulterated trash. The only reason I gave this one star is because Amazon does not have a negative star option. By the way, I use Windows XP service pack 2.
- Takes a little effort to get all the permissions set up but it has definitely stopped several excursions by unwanted others into my laptop. Does a good job as a Cookie Killer too

5 comments about Norton Internet Security 2005 - Single User.
- I have been using Norton Anti-Virus since I purchased the Compaq Presario 4000. The reason I have stuck with Norton because this Presario came with Norton Internet Security 2002 attached to it. I never used the NIS 2002, though, but I purchased the Norton Anti-Virus (NAV) 2003 which I have bee using for the last three years. In fact I used the NAV 2004 for two straight years without any response from Symantec, then all of a sudden that subscription was eventually retired by Symantec. I liked the NAV 2005 (which Symantec six months prior to its due date subscription, which made me mad and hence my wanting to try NIS at a subsidized rate) because like NAV 2003, it could tell if someone or something was trying to intrude into your computer. It is after purchasing and trying NIS 2005, that I realized how low and base Norton can go with its software. First when I tried NIS 2005, it blocked all my websites. I couldnt access them and I could not read my e-mail (Whenever I tried to read my e-mail, the response would be that, that action has been cancelled). So I reformatted my hard drive and the NIS 2005 appeared to be working quite well until I tred to install Adobe Reader 7.08 and couldn't allow me to proceed. Moreover, it was snail slow in allowing me to read one mail to another. So I uninstalled NIS 2005 and installed NAV 2006, which appears to be working well. I have now purchased Tend Micro PC-cillin 2006 as well as McAfee Viruscan 2006 at subsidized rates, should Symantec pematurely terminate my NAV 2006 prematurely i.e. before the 366 days of subscription are over. I think one of the reasons why NIS could not work is that it is a program that it is trying to do more than it can chew. It tried to be an anti-virus, personal firewall, privacy control, antispam as well as parental control in one. It reminds of the days when it was better to purchase a cassette player separate from the radio, since the technology at that time could not produce a good combined raio cassette player. I think Norton Internet Security is in that mode. It is not yet competent to produce a combined solution that is both antivirus and anti spam,anti-spyware at the same time. Hence the many complaints of its being a buggy program. At this stage, I would stay away from any program that calls itself "Internet Security." I may try Trend Micro internet Security which has received rave reviews from a couple of its users, but that will be if something goes wrong with my current NAV 2006. Otherwise, I am still wary of those programs that pass off as "Internet Security" such as "Norton Internet Security" or "Trend Micro Internet Security," pending their perfection of this technology at some future date.
- I have used Norton Virus Protection and Norton Internet Security for several years. I am currently running NIS 2006. My experience with these products has not been good but out of fear I just renewed my subscription. Since then I have had nothing but trouble with NIS. Since my renewal is within the grace period I decided to request a refund. I tried to do this on-line but found it an impossible waste of effort. Their web site and support are as useless as their product. From Norton Internet Security I clicked on support linked to their web site. Once there, I tried to apply for a refund but their system did not recognize my subscription renewal order number. It did recognize my product order number for NIS 2006 but that is not refundable so no help there. I gave up on requesting a refund and decided to contact support. If you click on "contact us" There are 2 options, Telephone or Email. Telephone support was down because of an earthquake in Taiwan. I decided to try email. I clicked on email and got the following security alert:
There is a problem with this website's security certificate.
The security certificate presented by this website has expired or is not yet valid.
Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.
We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website.
Click here to close this webpage.
Continue to this website (not recommended).
How ironic is that? I know I was on their site because I navigated there by clicking on support in NIS. You would think an internet security company could maintain their own security certificates. I'm not surprised though because everything Symantec does is designed to make you hate them. Their product is abysmal. It bogs my system down to a crawl, disrupts the performance of other applications and hogs system resources. If you put NIS on your computer you'd better get used to staring at the hourglass icon for long periods of time, Especially if you don't have tons of virtual memory and hard disk space available. Nortons CCapp retards start up forever and won't shut down when you want to log off. Recently I had to reinstall my windows xp operating system. After that I had major problems with NIS and had to uninstall it. It was then I realized how much better my system ran without it. I had already paid my renewal fee so I downloaded and reinstalled NIS and have had nothing but trouble since. I tried to leave feedback on Symantecs web site but typical of them, that does not work either. I wrote a long complaint, then clicked on submit. An error message came up saying to go back and correct the highlighted areas. When I clicked the back button all the text I had typed in was gone... just because I had failed to enter a subject line in the feedback report. I'll be damned if I was about to type all that information back in again. If you buy NIS you'd better hope it works the first time. If you think your going to get good support from Symantec or anything out of their website - think again. Oh, and BTW Beware, Symantec enrolls you for automatic renewal unless you go to their website and un-enroll. Once they have your money just try to get it back. Symantec sets up road blocks so you eventually just give up in frustration. This is how they make their money rather than by making a good product.
- Used Norton 2005. Upgraded to 2006.
Norton 2006 slowed my machine down to a crawl.
Went to ZoneAlarm. Very happy with it.
Always try to wait for Free-After-Rebate deals on these if you can. All I've paid for any of these is sales tax and/or shipping for the past five years.
- Agree with what I've read in technical publications about this product -- it is a real system resource hog. Will slow an older system to a crawl and put a dent in the performance of newer ones. Can obtain the same level of protection with other vendor's products. Do your research. Uninstalled my Norton halfway through the purchased period.
- I had Norton Security 2004 for years and was happy. I recently decided to update to the 2005 version. What a mistake! My husband can not access his email and it has slowed my system down horribly!!! Do NOT BUY this program.
I am calling them to get my 2004 back. Hopefully, I will be in the grace period.
