  1. Worthless program as is the original Norton 360 program. Been having same issues since original install last September. Norton finally responded suggesting the v2.0 resolved all issues. All non-functional issues remain. Now, even the email techs do not respond. I would suspect due to all the requests for help given internet traffic stating its numerous problems. I did not even wish to give this item one star, but I could not submit without an undeserving one star.

  2. I have been norton customer for more than 6 years. I was using norton internet security so for. I have installed this product today and so for i didnt see any issue and the product looks amazing with lot of features. But your system should have high configuration.

  3. Since I have installed this product, I have noticed that all of the spam items have been blocked. Also, have been informed if I am about to entered into an unsafe area. Lets me view the status of networks that I am connected to. Lets me correct problems easily with the 1 click support feature. Analyzes the defragmentation level of my computer & provides me with a report.Protects me from malicious keyloggers & screen capute applications. It can automatically turn off my computer after the completion of certain tasks. And best of all, Norton 360 performs security checks in the background when my computer is idle. Also, Automatically blocks exploits of known internet explorer vulnerabilities.

5 comments about McAfee VirusScan Plus 2008 - 3 User [Newest Version].
  1. I'm comparing this product to norton and avg free edition. Of the 3, I like this the least. It's low and buggy. Causes crashes on some of my older windows xp based computers. You're better off with a free product like avg free.

  2. I have used a bevy of virus scanners/protectors ranging from Symantech, avast, norton etc. I even used a previously released version of Mcafee a few years back. I am happy to say that this product stand up well against its competitors.

    It is fairly easy to use and can be used by up to 3 users. It has all the standard features as expected from most virus scanners. However, the only downside to it in my opinion is that when rebooting your computer, this thing really slows down the process. And while it can be run in the background and designed to do so, it seems at times to impede the speed of performance of other programs.

    But other than those points, it is still a great buy.

  3. It's ok but compared to other anti-virus products it's just to resource intensive and unintuitive. I use AVG free and it suits my needs. I would probably recommend this product to people who aren't very PC savvy but for me, it felt like a step backwards compared to other programs I've used.

  4. McAfee is a complete, self sustaining, non-worrisome package of security power devices rolled into one, big protection service!

    I have it!

    I love it!

    I'd not be without it!

  5. A very easy to install and manage anti-virus application. McAfee has long been passed off as a "wanna-be" anti-virus software, and has slowly been making its way up to the top. With the release of the new VirusScan Plus, its making itself a real contender in the tight competition out there.

    Although it lacks some of the more complex features of the more traditional business protection solutions, it stands out in simplicity of use, updating and protection from hackers, viruses, spyware and safe internet surfing with the included SiteAdvisor software -- all of which is perfect for the casual at-home internet user.

    This installation was quite simple; taking about 10 minutes, and gives you the option to install from the CD or downloading the latest from online. Depending on your download speed, I would recommend installing from the CD and then updating later from the main McAfee control panel. Updates were a cinch, and protection was automatically turned on by default. Another great feature to note -- which seems to be more common as of late -- is the ability to install the protection on up to three computers.

    Overall, McAfee has done a great job with its latest release, and if you need a simple solution to your internet woes, without killing your PC's performance, and native support for Windows Vista, then look no further.

5 comments about Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 3-User.
  1. Just installed this on a fresh clean dell vostro 200 that was running XP like a top. It practically killed it. Could not longer switch users or bring up programs in the uninstall software list. Had to use the trend micro uninstall to get the machine back. Also caused lots of address errors in things like, task manager. Gosh, this was a great product, what did they do to it? Very disappointed.

  2. I would give it three stars for overall performance. One star is removed for the installation hassles. The bullet points:

    BAD
    * Slows down the system considerably;
    * The interface is not very intuitive;
    * On opening, it had a false positive (flagged perfectly innocent software WGA Removal as a Trojan). Curiously, the 2007 version had no such a problem (it scanned the system a few hours earlier);
    * It started working unscheduled during a PowerPoint presentation (with no Internet connection).

    GOOD
    * Fewer crashes than McAfee and other security software (2007 version);
    * Pretty comprehensive;
    * Found four spyware bits that the 2007 didn't;
    * Can be installed on three machines.

    INSTALLATION:
    * I tried to upgrade the 2007 version with this one (i.e., bought on a disc at Amazon). What happened: after the installation, I was asked to provide my email address used for purchasing the OLD version (?!) - since I am using dynamic addresses for internet purchases, it took me a long while to find it.
    * After the installation, it turned out that there is no way to input the new serial number - no such option! The only solution was to uninstall it, and then install again;
    * Many modules such as the System Tuner had to be updated. All those updates took a while since they had to be initialized manually. There were a few restarts involved and inconsistent requests from different modules.

    BOTTOM LINE: If you have the 2007 or older version, first uninstall it and then install the new one. Do not try to uninstall the old version with the help of the 2008 one. It seems that the company tries to force you into buying the more expensive download version not by making it a less expensive option but by creating hassles with non-download upgrades.

  3. I'm not sure why Trend Micro gets so many bad reviews, it is by far the best security program I've had on my computer. I had Norton 360 and then Mcafee before this and here's what they showed after a scan-
    360 said I had no security issues on the computer.
    Mcafee(total protection) said I had 6.
    I tried Trend Micro and low and behold-67! All spyware.
    How could the other two not pick these up?? I immediately switched to pro and will not go to another program.
    Pros-easy to install and pretty quick about doing it. 2. As mentioned before picks up things the others aren't. 3. Doesn't bombard you with constant messages(pop-ups and such)
    Cons-a little slow at scanning, although that's a minor nuisance considering what it picks up. And the other would be seems that every other update it has to revert back because it says "problem with latest update" but at least it doesn't interfere with operating your computer.
    All and all a good product, much better than the other 2 I tried!

  4. Whatever you do DO NOT ROLLBACK CHANGES IN THE "Prevent Unauthorized Changes" Window. I now have Blue Screen of Death, my OS must be reinstall losing ALL DATA!!!! here what I wrote TrendMicro...

    i have installED your software on my desktop. the machine is virus free prior to the install. As I was rolling back some of your setting in the Changes Found dialog your software (in the background) preformed an update. I NOW AM UNABLE TO REBOOT MY PC. I GET A BLUE SCREEN. I have your software still installed on my laptop. I'M DISSAPOINTED YOU WILL HAVE A FEATURE TO ROLL BACK SOFTWARE CHANGES THE OS IMPLEMENTS AND DEEM MY PC USELESS.

    If you can tell me how to fix without out loss of data that will be great. Your product works well, even too well freezing my machine from time to time. I should have stuck with just your free online scan

    I SUGGEST YOU REMOVE OR DISABLED THE "PREVENT UNAUTHORIZATED CHANGES" FEATURE IN YOUR SOFTWARE

  5. I purchased this security program for my PC. The program was paranoid, slowed down my computer and kept sending me URL's that were linked to my computer and offering to block them for me while I was on the office network. There was no way of disabling this function, and when I'd be working on word documents, not even logged onto internet, program would freeze while warnings came up. It was most frustrating. To top it off, 2 weeks after installing the softwear, the PC ceased to work, and I ended up having to wipe the hard drive as it appeared that there were corrupt files. I'm not entirely sure if Trend Micro program was responsible/not however when the PC was set up again I switched to McAfee, and have had no problems since. Draw your own conclusions.

5 comments about Webroot Spy Sweeper Antispyware 5.x.
  1. I purchased SpySleeper to fix a recent infection in my computer. Although it detected and cleaned 2 trojans: trojan-fisher-bzub and trojan-downloader-zlob, SSleeper missed the trojan-spyware.webhancer. I had to use PC Doctor to detect and clean it.

    Now I am having to work with Webroot online tech support to clean a final infection that it missed, and it has taken 7 days of trivial pursuit and poorly written quick fixes to get them to look at a scan and (hopefully) come up with a fix.

    Phone tech support hold times are about 20 minutes as they are having to deal with significant Windows Vista compatibility problems with their product.

    Although this product has had a good reputation, it is now asleep at the wheel in many ways. If you are trying to fix an infection you would be better off doing a Windows reinstall than spending time and money on SSleeper. Read the PC World recent review on antispyware to confirm what I have posted (poor infection removal, last place in overall ranking.)

    2/25/08 update: It took 3 weeks to remove all spyware with ssleeper thru tech support. I have removed ssleeper from my active startup programs and use it only to run occasional scans after updating it. I do not plan to do anything with my computer during ssleeper scans because it slows to nearly lockup speed when a scan is running. Also, after definition updates, ssleeper automatically opens a new browser window that advertises the webroot antivirus product (kind of like what adware does!)

    Pitty the poor people who do not read the more current reviews of this product before buying (amazon, your default should be to display most current reviews first.)

  2. GOOD: detected spyware that I didn't even know was there.

    As you read on, keep in mind I am a recently retired engineer who spent his last few years supervising code writers' (even wrote some myself).

    BAD: Out of the box had bugs for Vista (and XP, IMO) so when I went to update for the "fix", their server was painfully slow ... oh so slow. It was throttling me. After nearly 2 hours for the 14.5 Meg download, the "fix" was in. Now for every manual update, it gives me a nag screen to purchase (for $10) their version that adds virus protection.

    UGLY: Telephone support. After 40 minutes on hold, someone answered. Not sure why as he was of no help, but he did speak English! I asked if they could send me a CD with a version that works to avoid the slow server problem. $8.95 plus S&H. I asked how to eliminate the nag screen since I did not want to buy their virus protection. He said, "can't be done". I then asked to have my 30-day money back guarantee, he said it had to be within 30 days of purchase, not activate date! I am over the 30-day limit -- this was a Christmas gift to me by my wife and with holidays, I just didn't have time to install ... sigh ... "too bad, sir."

    My recommendation is to not deal with this company, as they are not flexible and want to charge for everything. Nickel and dime you.

    With that, I give them the lowest rating possible. Wish I had read customers reviews here first before buying at Best Buy. Caveat emptor.

    Oh, and if you must purchase, only buy the single user one, not the family or 3 user version unless you need it -- will save you money.

  3. As many people in these reviews have claimed, version 5 is a real hog. After installing and running the application for a few days, I was forced to remove it. It slowed everything to a crawl. Switching between windows took 2 seconds. My CPU usage was usually at 90 to 100 percent. Fortunately for me, the disk I purchased had version 4.5 available as well. I have been running that version for about a day without the same problems. I would recommend to my friends and family to avoid version 5.

    Sincerely, Steve in Florida

  4. By far the greatest dangers lurking on the internet are not viruses but trojans, browser highjackers and cookies. While Norton is arguably the best anti-virus software and the best firewall it has flaws. Long before Norton will notice a problem, Spy Sweeper will bag it and tag it. Hackers have learned to hide viruses in cookies and trojans instead of sending them out on their own. With Spy Sweeper you have excellent protection against trojans and cookies and fair protection against highjackers; these are the nasty bugs that cause your browser to lock onto their web page.

    Here's some comments on Spy Sweepers operational behavior. It is slow to start up so give it some time. The first thing it will do is load a fresh copy of instructions from their website every morning. This will delay browser operation but it's necessary to keep you out of trouble. I just grab a cup of coffee and let it finish, which takes about 2 minutes. Spy Sweep is a little intrusive when it knows there is a program update scheduled so my advice is go with the flow.

    As I pointed out, Spy Sweeper provides only fair protection against highjackers. There is free software that will cover this modest vulnerability but like everything free there is a price: poor updating. When you buy software, or subscribe might be a better word, they guarantee that they will support you. I've tried four softwares to cover this vulnerability and settled on Spyware Doctor and one made by Sun. Spyware Doctor does an excellent job, often catching bugs before Spy Sweeper. Between the two of them, I seldom fall back on Norton for protection. The only problem with Spy Sweeper is that it does not like other protection software and will frequently alarm during start-up. It's nothing serious, just close the window properly and all will be well.

    If you can afford only one other protection, besides an anti-virus program, then spend your money on Spy Sweeper.

    I hope this review was helpful. If so, please add your vote. I write these reviews at a considerable expense of time and money as a public service. I believe that Amazon provides the best reviews and often serves as the best means of efficiently buying products.

  5. Previously Spysweeper was quite a nice product, although there are now free products with similar capabilities, so two important questions are: 1) is it more capable and 2) is it more hassle-free. As to capabilities I can only speak from personal experience.

    Fortunately, unlike at least one other reviewer I have been lucky enough that any malware I had was identified not only by Spysweeper but by other free malware programs I periodically run as an extra check. So to date, my other malware detection software has worked as well as Spysweeper on my system, and I have not had a chance to test the potentially extra detection capabilities of Spysweeper.

    I initially had some incompatibility with Spysweeper's E-mail attachment shield and the mail program I had running under Vista requiring me to disable the E-mail shield. Fortunately, that incompatibility is no longer present, perhaps as a result of a Spysweeper update.

    I can address my satisfaction with this software compared with others with similar goals. Spysweeper still has some minor issues. As one example, it provides the number of cookies it finds. However, unless it determines that a cookie is a problem, e.g., a tracking cookie, it provides no further information. That is, it does not provide the user with a listing of the cookies found. A better approach would be to list all cookies found and to allow the user to decide which, if any, cookies to keep.

    However, most Spysweeper's nuisances relate to the company's efforts to sell you more product/services, either providing you with no way to stop these sales pitches or making it difficult to eliminate them. For example, when you select Update Spysweeper manually from the software's Options page, your browser is opened and you are taken to one of the company's web pages (nag screens) even if your product is up-to-date. There you find the option to "Add Antivirus", even if you already have Spysweeper's antivirus installed. This is an unnecessary, time-wasting nuisance. Approximately, two weeks before your annual subscription comes to an end you are continually presented with a "nag" screen you must respond to each time Spysweeper starts, and there is apparently no way to prevent this screen from appearing until you either update Spysweeper or just remove it from your computer, another unnecessary nuisance. Additionally, Spysweeper recently added a new "feature" to its on-site purchase option. Now whenever you decide to buy a Spysweeper product, or simply update your Spysweeper software to include antivirus protection, Spysweeper automatically "opts you in" for an annual subscription renewal. What makes this a particular hassle is that to opt out you must go to a different URL and re-enter the information you already entered to buy the original product. Even after you re-enter and send this opt out information you are presented with a blank browser page with no indication that your opt out request was processed or accepted. A simple check box allowing you to opt in or out would do, but the goal appears to be to make opting out difficult.

    Technically I have found Spysweeper to be a competent product, with only a few technical issues, such as the lack of detailed cookie reporting mentioned above. However, in rating it I considered not only it technical features, which I felt were similar to some free products and to competing commercial products, but also how hassle-free it was to use for a purchased product. In this comparison, for me, Spysweeper's primary negatives related to it's intrusive approach to sell additional products, and particularly to the tactic of opting you in, without your explicit approval, for annual subscription renewals. More intrusive occurrences might be expected from free software, but not for a purchased retail product. At this time, July 2008, there are other products that provide similar services to Spysweeper with Antivirus, but without the "up sell" or "opt in without explicit consent" approaches. In my opinion, the ill-advised sales tactics diminish the value of this product.

4 comments about Kidswatch Internet Security Parental Control V5.
  1. I tried this software and it is the best parental software I have ever used. It is easy to setup and makes monitoring my children's computer use stress free. I feel confident that the software restrictions protect my children from accessing dangerous websites and inappropriate content. One of the best features is that it also allows me to set limits on when my children can use the computer and for how long. I no longer have to contend with my children arguing over whose turn it is on the computer. Kidswatch is a parent's answer to a child's computer use.

  2. Just installed this software on my kids' computer. Installation went very quickly. I'm impressed with the large number of customization features. I wanted this product because I specifically wanted to control what hours my children spent on the computer and internet, not just web filtering software. So far it seems to do that job very nicely.

  3. Our family uses this software as a tool to monitor and control access to both the computer itself and the internet. We really like the flexibility it offers to change parameters. It was also extremely easy to get set up and running.

  4. I have wasted a lot of money trying to find a program that can limit internet and computer time for my kids and am so pleased to have found one that works! This product is great because I can turn off internet access from my computer for my kids' computers if they are wasting too much time. I have their internet access set to automatically turn off at 9PM every night which is great too. This product is easy to use and (unlike many competitors) works as advertised.

5 comments about Microsoft SQL Server Developer Edition 2005 CD/DVD.
  1. Cost of MS SQLServer 2k5 Software: $50
    Cost of tech support to install MS SQLServer 2k5 on my new MS Vista laptop: $99.

    Success after 1 month: None.

  2. SQL Server 2005 is pretty much the Microsoft standard for server based relational databases. I bought this product in conjunction with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 standard edition, and they are a good pair. If you are planning on doing any Windows Forms based programming, or web programming that requires relational databases then I recommend this product for testing on your own servers during development work.

    MySQL and similar are often used for third party web hosts; if you can do SQL with this server software, then you can probably do it with MySQL. This software, however, is for more enterprise level software and web design, and if you are a beginner, then sticking to MySQL is probably your best option.

    If you are new completely to relational databases, using Microsoft Access or similar can help you get familiar with the table, key, and relationship structure. Server side databases often times aren't as visual and can hamper learning for beginners.

  3. Excellent seller. Very quick service. Would definitely recommend this seller to another buyer!!

  4. SQL Server 2005 Developer edition is a great way to launch a prototype website. Amazon deliveers quickly, so if an eval version expires, Amazon can save you days of frustration.

  5. I bought this product so I can get training in SQL
    I have a brand new Vista system from Dell, and it will not install, I get error messages that seem to show it is looking for a Network Server account, and this program is designed to be installed on a normal PC for development, so this should not happen.

5 comments about BitDefender Internet Security 2008 - 2 Years/3 Pc's.
  1. I'm a graphic artist. I'm always downloading trials of new software to help me with new designs and projects. With that said, I've inadvertently downloaded my fair share of spyware. Trend Micro didn't stop my computer from connecting online and interrupting me during projects. This BitDefender version did the trick and I can now focus on my projects. I can't even tell when it's running... but its definitely making a big difference so far.

  2. This was reccomended by a friend who uses it ... worked perfect much better than my old Norton in fact it found issues the other missed.
    Great Buy - Very Pleased

  3. I have a windows xp sp2 running on HP workstation xw4100.
    During installation of the BitDefender internet Security 2008, windows xp warned of "Software did not pass Windows Logo testing" three times. I ignored them and continued to install it. Then things seemed to be OK.
    But when I tried to reboot the PC, the system crashed after I entered my windows xp username and password. I had to reboot the PC in safe mode and remove BitDefender. I tried the installation procedure twice more, with the same results.

    I saw some other reviews complained about failing the Windows Logo testing, I think Bitdefender should fix this problem first before selling. I give this product 1 star and don't recommend any one to buy it.

    Update: I have been contacting them for the past 2 weeks, tried several suggestions they offered, did not fix my problem. No phone support during the weekend, and during the workday, it took a long time to reach an agent. They should not advise the 24/7 support on their box, it is a lie.

  4. No issues running on a XP Dell 2.8 Dual Core 2G ram laptop for the past 3 months. Game mode works well. Updates are just about invisible. Full system scans take about 80 mins for 120 gigs.
    No issues have popped up since I've installed it. It's either very light and non-intrusive, or it's not working at all... I doubt it's the latter.

  5. This software suite is quite problematic. The initial install on my Win XP SP3 system went very poorly. Their central system was down and Bitdefender couldn't communicate with it when it needed to during install (for updates and registering). For this and other reasons, the result was problems with Outlook caused by Bitdefender's anti-spam module's interface with it. Outlook would not come up at times and I'd have to reboot to get it to work. The XP shutdown was quite bizarre, indicating that many modules were not shutting down properly.

    What was really surprising was that it allowed the XP firewall to remain on. It didn't even tell me to turn it off, either.

    Tech support via chat was useless as they couldn't quite understand my questions, but support by email was better. They wanted me to run some diagnostics available on their website and send the results to them. Their reply was quick and they recommended uninstalling and reinstalling with a special uninstaller and reinstaller also available on their website. After doing so, Outlook worked ok but my registry had many errors. Fixing the registry with Registry Mechanic caused Bitdefender to stop working completely, so I went through the uninstall and reinstall again. The registry was ok this time, and as of this writing Bitdefender is still working, but for how long I don't know.

    Operationally, you don't know there's any behind-the-scenes problems such as it's firewall or real-time protection being off due to some sort of failure. Usually, the tool tray icon on the lower right of your screen would flash or display an exclamation point or something. So, I have to keep double-clicking on the tool tray icon to see if everything is still working.

    Internet security software is the most problematic of all software, so I guess they can be forgiven for all of this. It appears that they are trying, though. Eventually I think they'll work the bugs out.

5 comments about Norton AntiVirus 11.0 For Mac.
  1. The Norton AntiVirus software is easy to install and use, runs in the back ground and doesn't seem to slow the computer speed down at all.

  2. There are no virus' for OS X.
    The only malware was a trojan that the user had to download from a porn site, run and give it your admin password. This would not have stopped it.

    If you feel you must use AV software to protect windows users you share files with, get something better like the free ClamX av.

    Norton is the only product I ever installed that hosed OS X-constant kernel panics until I uninstalled it.

  3. This software works but it really really really slow. Really really really slow. Slows my new imac to a crawl and the slowest of antivirus scans I've ever seen. Just changed over from the PC world and as a creature of habit keep antivirus installed. All the antivirus authors seem to have free trials except Symantec. Probably because you'd be really frustrated and not buy the program... This was the biggest waste of money I've spent on software in a long time. Two stars since it probably does it's job....if it ever finishes the scan. So far six hours on a month old computer.

    Update: Well, no longer is it a waste of money. Talked with their very friendly New Delhi tech support and got a refund. Bought Intego and though it's expensive, it does the job efficiently.

  4. NORTON FOR THE MAC IS EXCELLENT. THIS PRODUCT IS GREAT AND WELL WORTH THE PRICE.

  5. Norton AntiVirus v.11.0 works great for my PPC G5 Mac running 10.4.11. It installed without any issues, and it's cheap insurance considering all the threats on the Internet. I haven't found any viruses yet, but I do transfer files from my Win XP system - there I've found several in the past year. Bottom line - good peace of mind.

5 comments about BitDefender Total Security 2008 - 2 Years/3 Pc's.
  1. Great value, product works very well. It is light on system resources. I've run 3 other security suites on this machine, the others being Webroot, Norton, and McAfee. It is much lighter on system resources than Webroot and Norton and has a faster startup and scan times. A little more demanding than McAfee, but not to the point that performance suffers. The firewall is much easier to train than Webroot's and McAfee. The backup service is nice, but maybe not needed for all users. Overall, the best suite I've owned so far.

  2. For about 7 months, I've been running this software on my Vista home premium laptop and my XP Media Center desktop and haven't had any problems at all. Both of my systems operate smoothly, even during full system scans. I've used a few different internet security suites and so far this is the best. I only gave it 4 stars because the extra features (Duplicate finder, disk defragmenter) are mediocre.
    Pros: Easy to use/configure, Updates every hour, not a resource hog.
    Cons: Seems like some extra features were just added as fillers.

  3. ...and go with something else. I've used BitDefender for over a year now, and this morning woke up to discover that my internet provider had alerted me via email that I had a Trojan on my computer - this with BitDefender already in place and functioning on my machine. I figured if they could do that that I would download the McAfee anti-virus product they were offering for free. I installed it, and during the first scan it picked up not one, but two Trojans on my computer - two that BitDefender somehow managed to miss. Bottom line, save yourself some heartache here. BitDefender will noticably slow your computer down, scans take forever, it is forever updating, and based on what I saw today I have to wonder what it's updating for - the prom? Bottom line, it's just not as good a product as McAfee or Trend Micro, based upon my experience.

  4. BitDefender Total Security 2008 - 2 Years/3 Pc's I purchased BitDefender Total Security for my computer and my son's laptop due to PC Magazine. Unfortunately, the program never made it to my son's laptop. I have Windows XP and had to uninstall Windows Defender to get rid of some problems. That created even more BitDefender problems. The only solution according to the 1-800 number for BitDefender was to uninstall and reinstall BitDefender Total Security. That became a daily routine. If I was not on the phone with BitDefender, I was busy sending emails after I had downloaded their tools and responded with results. After about 15 days, I had enough! Since then, I returned the product. I have downloaded ESET Smart Security for 30 days (as a trial) and no more problems! I am also trying Glary Utilities (free forever) and no problems! I wish I could get ESET Smart Security thru AMAZON.

  5. I have this installed for 3 months or so in my PC with XP and laptop with Vista, so far no issues with slowing down, always on, does not use a lot of memory when running in the background. I've used Norton and it freezes my XP a lot so i got rid of it....

5 comments about Microsoft FrontPage 2003 [OLD VERSION].
  1. I purchased this software mainly for Web Design. I am beginning in Web Design and found Microsoft Frontpage 200 easy to learn with a lot
    of interesting features to design a web site. I would definitely recommend this product.

  2. Compared to FP 2000 and earlier versions, it offered some major improvements, even letting one code in (gasp) PHP with live preview - it is highly configurable, and easily tied into SharePoint (well, I think that was the intent).

    It was quite an evolution, moving beyond FP2000, with some fairly advanced features - while still retaining the "entry level, small business learnable" functionality (albeit cookie cutter designs) of previous versions.

    I was surprised to find it even offered options to strip out all code that hinted this site was made with FrontPage (an odd change, knowing MS), but also offered other code functions, some on par with Dreamweaver - but do not mistake this for Dreamweaver, even the first MX version. It's still aimed at Microsoft only - you really have to dig and tweak to configure it for anything else (e.g, php, cold fusion) - but it does offer some major improvements for flexibility over previous versions. Mostly good, some horribly bad.

    The good - being able to tweak it to dozens of standards' compliance, Sec. 508, XML'ish stuff, whatever. By default these things are not set up, so it does take some learning.

    What annoyed (and freaked me out) was that while it easily allowed for desktop development with Access, to create database driven sites - the database had to remain in a public folder - ok, I suppose if you're using it only on an intranet.

    I believe the point was to code with Access, then mod it slightly to interact with SQL server - but most folks probaby did not use it that way - knowing the history and "fire and forget" ease of use of FrontPage...

    Anyhow, I'd call this a para-professional version. It has way more flexibility and functionality than any version of Frontpage, ever. It is also going bye-bye.

    There will not be a FrontPage 2007, due to the switch to Expression Web (which retains some FP functionality, but the "friendly" and pesky "bots" are gone). No more email bots, whatever bots - gotta learn how to roll your own.

  3. I have been using FrontPage since 1997. I am webmaster for three websites and have alway really thought this was a great program! BUT! I have only upgraded to FrontPage 2000 and find that with my XP computer, Win XP does not support FrontPage. Now, if I want to continue with my family Genealogy Site and a community Genealogical Society site, I will need to purchase and learn ANOTHER program. At age 70, I really don't feel like doing that!

    Does anyone know if FP 2003 will work on Win XP? OR How can I get my FP 2000 to work on my WIN XP computer?

  4. Web pages can not be easier to design without this program and book. An excellent resource.

  5. Software is a big improvement on Frontpage 2000, and is more user friendly than the previous version. Easier to navigate through and create web pages from scratch.
