- This books just provide you with everything you want to know about VB5.0. It is so useful!
- Several years ago, I was teaching a college course in Visual Basic, a VB course for a local company and VB in community education classes. At times, there was a need for quick projects and this was one of the primary sources that I consulted. There were also times when students would come to me and ask questions about specific problems they were having in their work. A few times I was able to get some good ideas or at least hints as to how their problems could be solved from this book.
The book contains a series of 68 different complete projects using VB 5. The range of the projects is considerable, the general categories are:
*) Extending control features
*) View controls
*) Class fundamentals
*) Object fundamentals
*) ActiveX controls
*) Internet integration
*) Application performance
*) Using the WIN32 API
*) Windows socket programming
*) Forms
*) Databases
*) Logo compliant applications
*) Extending VS and managing development
The area that I found most useful was "Using the WIN32 API." I am a firm believer in teaching about API's and I used the ideas in that section to develop exercises where the students were required to call several of the API's. This is a very good book for the learning of the now largely deceased VB 5. However, many of the ideas and principles still live in VB.NET, so it can still be of value.

- I have 4 books , Visual Basic in 24 hours Visual Basic in 21 days,Beginning Visual Basic, Visual Basic night school, non of them teach you at all about programming fundamentals. Thanks to the author David I. Schneider . his book have first 4 chapters about programming fundamentals. And i find its very good for students at any level.
- I have used this book to teach a Visual Basic class. This book seems to remember that programming with Visual Basic involves more than the graphics. It gives a number of exercises at the end of each chapter which is very useful for an instructor.
- Contains many good examples while covering moderately complex concepts. Great for the beginner who wants to learn VB easily on their own. I used the book throughout college and now it makes a great reference in the job place.
- This book is an excellent book for starters, who do not know anything about programming. I learnt a lot from this book. David is an excellent author. The book is very well written in simple english and has plenty and plenty of examples to learn from. I always look for books written by David I. Schneider, unfortunatley he wrote only two or three books so far.
- This is a great book. It has everything you need to know about VB 5. Currently, I am using it as a reference for the MCP when I get to a term I do not remember or know.

3 comments about Software Development for Engineers: with C, Pascal, C++, Assembly Language, Visual Basic, HTML, JavaScript and Java.
- The material about the different languages is good, but a little bit supperficial, it is only a preview, I cosider that is better to learn each language separately.
- If you have been trying to decide which language you want to start programming in, or would like to see the structure of other programming languages, this is the book.
It will not teach you the from novice, but will give you a general insight into each of the languages.
- If you are an engineer on the field, you already had general ideas about these programming languages, so this book is a joke! DON'T WASTE MONEY ON IT ! You need more specific books. This book is best for 2nd-year engineering students, or general readers who are CURIOUS about software development, it will satify your curiosity, but it will not take you anywhere ! The book title "...For ENGINEERS" stinks because engineers need much deeper book than that, they need 'real food', not just a 'smell' of foods which may [make them upset]!!!
I gave '1 star' for the book title "...ENGINEERS" and '3 stars' for general readers, so my rating is 2 stars.
