1. I had no previous experience with page layout programs so I needed some expert guidance and boy did this DVD training from Total Training deliver. Steve Holmes is the instructor and he has to be the best training instructor I've ever watched and I've seen some good ones i.e. Deke McClelland, Jacob Rosenburg, Scott Kelby to name a few. His English accent and super smooth (no studder) voice is pleasing to listen too and his knowledge of the program is impeccable.
   
   The training starts off with a Quick Guided Tour (about 35 minutes) of the powerful capabilities of Indesign CS2 where you'll watch Steve as he creates a very impressive brochure cover using advanced techniques which are easy to follow and understand. Then the training goes into the basics of using InDesign CS2 where Steve goes on to tell you how to use Pallets and set them up for a very efficient workspace and how to save several different workspaces. Very, very helpful to a newbie like myself.
   
   The rest of the training is a hands-on project based learning that shows you some very advanced--but again, not hard to follow techniques. The training is a whopping 16 hours long so all essential features are explained in magnificent detail.
   
   I might point out that the DVD's are to be watched on your PC and NOT via your DVD player to your TV. At first I was disappointed by this but after watching the training and following along (the picture quality on my 17" laptop screen was great) I'm now of the opinion that this was the best viewing option. I can watch the training where ever I happen to take my laptop.
   
   As a final thought, I want to mention that to just view this training one time and comprehend/remember all that included is not possible (for me at least) so you'll find yourself watching the training over and over. Making it a valuable resource to turn to for accomplishing a specific task.
   
   In conclusion I was very impressed with the training and my understanding of Indesign CS2 is light years ahead of where I started from. No doubt one of the best purchases I've made on computer training.
   
   I highly recommend Total Training for Indesign CS2.



2. I recommend this product to anyone who wants to get up to speed on InDesign. I have not finished it yet, but I have jumped to different sections to get the answer I needed quickly.

1. This program is like an inconsiderate lover, it always wants to be on top. If you're trying to follow along with the tutorials in AE, you have to minimize and then maximize AE to get it to stay on top. After a while it becomes a big nuisance. That being said the tutorials are pretty good. They'll give you a good basic understanding of AE.

1. I bought this about 6 months ago when I bought my first mac and also my first computer.I don't know why they aren't selling more of these things .For me ,looking at a manual the size of a phonebook is about as interesting as stocking shelves in a supermarket.This DVD rom is 8 hours long and covers all the items in the contents very well.Perhaps with a manual you can get into more detail but for me this is the place to start at least.What I do is watch a section and then either take a few notes and go to a particular program or just go to a particular program itself.By the way I do own a couple of manuals for Appleworks but they just collect dust.



2. I interviewed for a job and notice the office was Mac dominated. I had always been reluctant to go with a mac so once I got offered the job I ordered this dvd to as to not be a total Mac dumb-donkey. I watched the first few lessons and I was set, my first day of work went well thanks to the DVD. The quality is the best and Tod the presenter is a gifted teacher, good voice, excellent overall.

3. I am officially a swithcer!! I would never go back to using a PC unless I absolutely had to. The is a must have for anyone who is purchasing a Mac for the first time. The video tutorials walk you through some key features that really help you harness the benefits of a Mac. Once you start utilizing The Finder, Spotlight, Widgets, and more you'll wondering what your life was like without a Mac. Great buy, great instructor!!

2 comments about Mastering PHP 5.0 Web Programming Step by Step Training.

1. I could have written this material in my sleep.
   The screenshots are all in notepad with the php manual open in the background, so you can tell the author is looking things up. The monotone narrative voice will put you to sleep.
   Too many incorrect wordings/terminologies in what I heard to even point out here.



2. First thing: I already know PHP pretty well. I picked this up because the price was right and because it IS titled "Mastering PHP 5". I had hoped it could help bridge some gaps in my knowledge of the new features specific to PHP 5, particularly the new OOP features, the new standard library stuff, etc.
   
   This thing is pathetic! It mostly consists of the monotonal narrator writing a tiny bit of code and showing it execute without explaining why things are as they are. It talked about data types in PHP as though booleans, integers, and strings are the only data types. The section on setting up PHP on windows discussed modifying only two lines in the php.ini file (register_globals and magic_quotes_gpc) without discussing why those modifications were happening.
   
   All in all this is truly horrible and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
