5 comments about FileMaker Pro 7 (Mac).
  1. This Filemaker is the best version yet! Highly recommended!

  2. I have been using Filemaker 7 for Mac for 2 motnhs now. I am so happy with all the improvements they have made. Hands down this is the best database program (Mac or PC) ever made. A must buy!

  3. The improvements made over version 6 are monumental! A must have for database users and users of previous versions! A+++++

  4. I'm a database professional, one of the few MySQL Certified Professionals in the country. I've been familiar with dBase, InfoFile, Clarion, Microsoft Access, FoxPro, Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL, most since their earliest incarnations.

I've been tinkering with FileMaker since version 3 (1995). It never seemed much more than an oh-so-slightly souped-up version of the database in ClarisWorks/AppleWorks.

I've always evaluated FileMaker's time-limited downloads, but was never impressed.

But version 7 is a quantum leap, highly matured. If you want a replacement for the buggy and unstable Microsoft Access, here it is.

On a note, I bought a copy of FileMaker 7 on eBay. When I registered it, FileMaker told me that it was a pirated copy, which diminished my opinion of that online service.

I believe that if "a software is good enough to use, it's good enough to pay for". On a shoestring budget, I needed to find the best price, and it was here on Amazon.

  5. FileMaker Pro 7 (and it's new version 8) have one leg up on Microsoft Access: the are cross-platform. You can use FileMaker on Macs and PCs. Microsoft doesn't make an Access for Mac, either stand-alone or bundled with Office.

If you don't know how to use Access, if you don't know too much about relational database management systems, FileMaker is probably for you. It's much easier to use than Access. But if you have invested the time to learn Access enough to do the basics - create tables, complex queries, and forms, and to produce useful reports - stick with Access.

Switching to FileMaker means learning a whole new system, and once you do, you will not be any more productive than you already are.

  1. Simply put, this is the best training around. I am a self taught programmer and I thought I knew what I was doing. Boy was I wrong. This is by far the best training I have ever had, no programming book even comes close to the depth that Buzz goes into. I am only halfway through the training and every day Buzz shows me just how much I didnt know. Buy this, its worth every penny and cost about as much as one of those no good books.

  2. I am a purchaser of the XNA Xtreme 101 training material who has worked through all of the Volume 1 DVD set including the knowledge reviews and game projects. I am extremely pleased with the DVD and I have learned a great deal about the fundamentals of computer programming. The lectures go into amazing detail about general programming concepts, .NET infrastructure, the C# language and game design. Jason Busby and his team have spent a great deal of time preparing their teaching lessons before recording them. They are incredibly organized and easy to follow.

I love the fact that the videos have a well-defined structure to them while still remaining unscripted and engaging. The organized structure of the videos makes them easy to review at a later date for reference on a particular topic.

Here is a generalized outline of the structure of an XNA Xtreme video lecture:

    1) Introduce the main topic and outline which concepts the video will cover

    2) Clearly define the main topic on the whiteboard (i.e. a virtual "chalkboard")

    3) Illustrate the C# syntax on the whiteboard

    4) Demonstrate the syntax in Visual Studio IDE

    5) Clearly explain the important concepts (which further drive home the point of the main topic) on the whiteboard - along with examples and memory diagrams. Illustrating what is going on in memory is *awesome* and really helps my understanding!

    6) Implement the examples in the Visual Studio IDE and expand on the examples - sometimes "on the fly"

    7) Recap and review what you covered in the lecture before ending the video

I'm convinced that 3D Buzz taken online teaching further than anyone else on the planet, and the fact that the lectures are in video format means that students can review them again and again (as opposed to a traditional classroom where one only has written notes as a take-home deliverable). Not only are the lectures solid, but Mr. Busby also provides mind-bending challenges for the students to work out on their own (termed as "Knowledge Reviews" in the videos), and then presents the *complete solution* to the homework assignments in video format.

The topics covered in Volume I include an introduction to programming concepts, variables, expressions, comments, If statements, Switch statements, referencing data types, variable scope, variable casting, enumerations, Do loops, While loops, For loops, general programming terms, a breakdown of .NET core architecture, an overview of the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE, several complete game projects and five Knowledge Reviews to test your comprehension of the lecture material.

Due to the fact that Jason Busby explains programming fundamentals and Computer Science concepts so thoroughly, this instructional training can be applied to learning other computer languages in addition to C#. I, along with several other students, have had the privilege of working through the Volume II set before release. These new lectures cover the concepts of Objected Oriented programming and design with unbelievable detail (including an amazingly in-depth lecture on Inheritance that is rich with examples to drive home the concept). After working through both Volumes I & II, I've even found the C++ language to be a snap to pick up and use. It just goes to show that once you understand core programming concepts, you can apply them to other languages and add even more tools to your belt.

  3. This is a great starting place for anyone that is wondering, "how the heck do I get started in programming?" Sure, the VTM is about creating XNA games, but that's only part of it. Through the course of learning, you'll find yourself going over the basics of the C# language and having it presented in a way that anyone can learn it from. What's great is that you're also going to get challenges as you go along that not only test your understanding of topics but also to help you start thinking about how to apply those topics to problems.

Already know C#? That's not a problem either. All of the videos are clearly labeled and broken into distinct videos that can be watched or skipped as you see fit.

While these videos cover XNA, XNA is really only used as a method of implementation. These videos will teach you the fundamentals of programming, the fundamentals of game designs and implementation, and it will teach you how to leverage XNA to make your games come to life.

This is a fabulous product! Let's also not forget that there is a great community of people that have taken this course at 3D Buzz that you can ask your questions to so you won't be left out dry if and when you have some further questions or may need a little more help.

  4. I have wanted to make my own game since I was 8 and first played the Colecovision my parents bought me. In the past I have tried to teach myself programming from various books, but really never could grasp how to apply the knowledge.

I am currently working through XNA Volume 2 by 3DBuzz and I am happy to report that I have a working knowledge of the concepts and methodology and am well on my way to designing my very own game for the first time.

I truly never thought I could learn to program, but the video format and the extremely thorough way that the material is presented makes it easy for any beginner. You truly need no prior knowledge. If you watch every video from beginning to end, you will eventually understand it. And if you don't, you've got the videos!! Replay it until it sinks in.

If you have ever wanted to make your own game and play it in Windows or on Xbox360, you will NOT regret this purchase.

Thank you 3DBuzz for helping me to achieve my dreams. =)

1. If you are a poweruser looking into programming, Visual Basic is the best language for you to start in. This "book/kit" contains everything you will need, however it is designed more for those who want to learn how to program, not those who already know another langauge and want to just learn Visual Basic.

  2. The self-paced training manual clearly defines a solid understanding of the way Visual Basic works. By the time you finish this book you will be ready to tackle more advanced topics with confidence. This is an excellent choice for people with no programming experience as well as those of us with experience and/or formal training in other languages.

  3. Excellent book - the practicality and teaching methods of this book are second to none. I had no prior experience of Visual Basic and after using this pack I'm confident of my vb abilities. Great job Michael. However, one question, where do I go from here ?. I want to learn more so have you an intermediate book at all ?

  4. FINALLY! Someone gets it right. Being a Computer Engineer and programming expert, I was concerned about buying a package to learn Visual Basic. When learning other languages, I usually found it easy to just learn by crunching code, using only references. I am shocked at how affective this package is. It contains everything you need. Four CD's with help files, Visual Basic 6.0 (without all of the professional features) and 1.1GB of information by the Microsoft Developers Network (MSDN). One of the books included in this kit is a step by step approach to programming in Visual Basic. Although the book was written for the beginner, I have found it very interesting. It is a good book because it allows both novice and advanced users to learn at their own pace, without getting bored. The other book is the programmer's guide that accompanies the professional and enterprise versions of Visual Basic. This book is an excellent supplement, once one has finished the step by step manual.

  5. dear sir i would like to have the fundemental book which is with examples like object+usage+1 example that IS for all objects if u have any book like this for VB 6.0 OR VB 5.0 let me know immeately i will buy it surely. please send me the NAME AND AUTHOR OF THE BOOK AND ADDRESS WHERE I CAN GET IT FROM

  1. I have used various versions of this tool over the years and i just keeps etting better. One of my favorite features of is the ability to edit sets of files (projects) in a variety of languages within the same tool while retaining the editor's ability to highlight and recognize the specific cahracteristics of each language. (Although, I have t admit that I have often found the Hex Editor representation to be almost as handy.)

If, as I do, you find yourself using a mixture of C# or Pascal (Delphi) with HTML, XML, or text files, then this will be a very handy tool.

  2. Time has gone by, since CW development was active.
I regret buying this product. Borland only collects last pennies of it.

  1. If you are going to be programming for Windows in .NET, you basically need to have this. The fact that it changes dramatically every few years, and not always for the better, is very annoying - but it makes MS a lot of money.

We have our development team all using VS 2005, and if one of us upgrades to this setup, then we pretty much all do as we cannot rely on the code being checked in to not have some odd little VS 2008 specific thing in it.

Which means we all have to get used to the slight differences and the company has to then incur the upgrade cost.

MSDN and specifically the downloads you can get with it is critical if you are doing any serious business programming for the MS platform(s).

So while I would rather program in just about any other language available (hate), getting paid to write MS specific code means you need to use this (love, getting paid).
