  1. I was flabbergasted to find out that the basic chart control does not ship with this edition. I need very simple graphs, and none of that functionality is available. no MSChart, or Microsoft graph in this version. Make sure you check the list of included controls... for the your needs before you buy this.

  2. Visual Basic make programming a snap! I'm building GUI's quickly and easily. Motif for C and Swing for Java can't compare in this regard. In fact, it's almost FUN.

  3. I have been using VB since it came out right after VC. I have owned every upgrade and am a professional C++ programmer, and I love VB. It's like candy. It's so easy to use. Just a medium amount of programming experience can create wonderful programs. In the earlier additions there was some confusion about global variables, user written procedures and subroutines. They were in separate locations causing confusion, but everything is on one page now. You can see every bit of your code by scrolling up and down a single page.

Now for the down side, there is a lot left out of the learning edition. I can't really fault Microsoft. If they are going to have lesser and better versions then they have to leave something out of the lesser.

Finally and perhaps most important don't forget to use the wealth of help and information found on the online help section. Leave you Internet on and while in VB go up to help and select online help. There is an entire library at your disposal. Try a search, or read general information on a topic. Anything and everything you might want to know is there. Unfortunately in the learning addition most of the advanced functionality is left out. So this wonderful library just tempts you.

  4. (...) I think Visual Basic is the best and easy development language you can get. I've got the enterprise edition and it really is packed with lots of fetures and stuff that will speed up code time. There's only one things that dissappoint me with Visual Basic, it is: Visual Basic does not have a truly advanced Internet programming like C++. I can't wait to upgrade to Visual Basic.Net because if VB6 is this good then how good can VB6.Net be(...)

  5. Choosing a software to use and start in programing should be easy and detailed to understand. Many of my friends adviced me to own a Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Learning Edition to support my limited knowledge in computer operations. I am a novis user, with VB 6.0 learning edition, positively it will be a great help to impart the " What to do & What to start in programing".May be my dream to be an accounting system analyst will start from here.

  1. I have used various versions of this tool over the years and i just keeps etting better. One of my favorite features of is the ability to edit sets of files (projects) in a variety of languages within the same tool while retaining the editor's ability to highlight and recognize the specific cahracteristics of each language. (Although, I have t admit that I have often found the Hex Editor representation to be almost as handy.)

If, as I do, you find yourself using a mixture of C# or Pascal (Delphi) with HTML, XML, or text files, then this will be a very handy tool.

  2. Time has gone by, since CW development was active.
I regret buying this product. Borland only collects last pennies of it.

  1. I've always been a bit of a technophobe, but as a small business owner, I grew out of spreadsheets long ago and realized I needed a database for invoicing, project management, and other business tasks. The thought of building a database nearly gave me hives but I tried FileMaker Pro and was pleasantly surprised. Templates let me get a jump start on designing my database and now with version 8.5 I've found it easier than ever to customize menus, use fields and tables, and create relationships between tables to make the database meet my needs. I can also easily export content as PDF files to exchange information with clients or contractors. I love this product! It makes file sharing and web publishing a breeze.

  2. i've been using this fmp for a few months now. i was able to get the general gist of how to use it but personally found taking a class really helped my understanding. the program can do so many things! well worth the money.

however... one of the books i read on the program "FileMaker Pro Design & Scripting for Dummies" stated, "FileMaker provides full, multiuser support for up to five users without requiring the user to add any additional licenses or patches." that statement is misleading. i understood that statement to mean one license would allow five user. not true! as long as each computer attempting to view the same file has a unique license number, five users can access the same file at the same time. if more than five users at a time are going to be using the file, you'll need to buy filemaker server.

  3. I paid the company almost $200 for a downloadable upgrade to version 8.5. When I downloaded it, the disk image file downloaded fine and opened into a nice CD icon. But after that, bupkus. Double clicking did NOT launch an installer, just a windoow of the file contents. Double clicking the (supposed) application file did nothing but launch an incomprehensible script window of some sort. Tried to change the file name to add a .pkg or .app extension, but no dice, locked and can't change it. Even went so far as to use disk utility to make a new .dmg image from the mounted cd-icon, made it read-write, then changed the file name, still no installation. Then tried to submit an e-mail help request using their web page, got all the way thru the e-mail, then got a message saying sorry we only do phone support for this. Phone support of course is only during "business" hours. I used to think the product was good, but their customer support STINKS.

  4. I never received my product nor receive any response to my e-mails to Reduction Mart. I hope that Amazon will reimburse me in some way.

  5. Can't really review it because AAA Liquidators never sent it to me. Nor did they send it to nearly 100 other people they ripped off.

  1. i have been programing in vb for about 3 years now and i bought this book and found it very useful. I was taught alot although i did skip a lesson here and there. This book looked at all aspects of programing and basicly everything you will need for your projects. I then passed this book onto my friend who has no programing experince at all. In a few weeks he was programing almost as good as me. So i like to recomend this to all levels of the programing scene.

  2. I was disappointed that the descriptions and reviews of this product did not point out that the software cannot compile (a feature of VB) and is missing some other features so that an upgrade to VB is necessary to gain all features use. Otherwise, the book and software are good to get down VB basics.

  3. This package lack's two main features. It does not contain any help files and it does not compile. If I knew that it didn't contain help I would have never bought it. The package includes a basic introductory book which is not bad. Another book is included on the cd rom( this book is actually a more substantial one).
If you have windows Xp I would strongly recommend to buy the vb.net standard.
