  1. Fix-it Utilities is an all-in-one suite of programs that fix problems and fine tune your computer for maximun efficiency and protection. The defrag utility has been improved as has the disk fixer. The registry clearner and registry defrag utilities are the best available. The antivirus program is top notch. It takes up less hard drive space than Norton or McAfee (about 100 mb less). Also, new with this version is a selective install that lets you install only the components that you want. In short, a great utility gets better. Anyone running Win 9X, Win ME and Win NT 4 and above should not be without it.

  2. I bought this program to "fix" the various start up bugs in win 98 along with other program glitches that my old Norton software used to fix on win 95. Fix-it has better graphics, action video as the program runs and lots of lists on what it is doing, but never fixed and supported my programs like the Norton programs did. After plowing on through the complicated instructions, I'm back to Norton for the win 98 and never looking back. Fix-it does have a good defrag program, but so did dos. For me, it was very disappointing.

  3. Fix-it got rid of the sober worm from my computer when Panda and Norton's could not even find it!
I would sugest this product to any and all!

  1. This game is amazing. Totally addictive. Graphics are quite well done. Installation was simple. Awesome!

  2. Overall this is a nice game. I downloaded the demo and thought it was curious. I don't think I found this game as addictive as Civilization, but even to compare it is high praise. The multiplay is good although it can be a bit of a wait for the other player to finish. Some aspects of the game are a bit contrived and make it a little difficult to maintain a strategy. All in all the game is a bit whimsical, I wouldn't describe it as a hard core strategy game. Like a lot of games this suffers from the problem that the game can be decided early and then it just a matter of many hours of playing to finally resolve it. The greatest strength of the game is its novelty. Not that I've seen game there is to see but I hadn't seen anything quite like it. And on Linux too boot!

As to the Linux port. This is the only full version of a Loki game that I've tried and I was very impressed. I've tried the SM Alpha Centauri demo and am anxiously awaiting the final version. Oh, and if you haven't play Jagged Alliance 2, I heard a rumor that Loki was going to port that too. Another good and different game.

  3. The heroes can gain levels, a wide variety of powerful spells, and raise skill points to magnify the power of the spells. The economy scheme is simple because all you have to do is to take over resource mines and keep them. This can be quite challenging because it becomes a tug-of-war between you and the computer enemies. You have a wide variety of castles to build up each possessing unique terrain characteristics that give native monsters bonuses and unnative negatives. Certain monsters do better against one kind of monsters, however, can be easily eliminated by another species. You have to recruit a perfect combination of creatures and build up a powerful heroes in order to win. The best part of the game is that you can develop such a powerful hero, that he or she becomes almost a God or Goddess in the game and no AI will stand a chance in your way! This is one fun monster bashing marathon!

  4. This game never gets old. You can choose between 8 town choices. The castle (example creature:angel), the rampart(example creature:unicorn), the tower (example creature:genie), the inferno(example creature:devil), the necropolis(example creature:skeleton), the dungeon (example creature:harpy), the stronghold (example creature:ogre), and the fortress(example creature:gorgon). There are countless scenarios, and plenty of neutral creatures. It's a must for any strategy gamer!

  1. It is nice but not very practical, you cannot add or delete pictures, it is not easy to use, it takes a lot of space. PhotoJam 3 does the same and maybe more and it's more versatile, easier and cheaper!

  2. I am extremely happy with what the program is supposed to do, i.e., to create extraordinary photo shows with amazing 3-D styles. One reviewer wrote, the program does not have a complete photo organizer that let you delete and add photos on your computer. The 3D-Album uses regular Windows file folder. You use Windows Explorer to add/delete photo files, copy/create photo folders, and prepare photo collections for 3D-Album to display. Then you use 3D-Album's photo organizer to attach text and voice to your photos, drag and drop to define photo orders, specify the photo displaying time and the text color, and etc. Because I am already used to Windows Explorer, it is easier for me to use Windows Explorer to prepare my photo files and folders, rather than learning an unfamiliar method in a new program (unless Windows Explorer cannot provide the way I want.) Because 3D-Album is meant to be simple, It does not try to do everything. It provides only features that are necessary to get your job done.

3D-Album is definitely not a product for photo management, nor photo editing or photo printing. It is for photo presenation. I never found a photo album software that brings so much fun. It adds many wonders to my boring digital photos. If you are tired of traditional 2-D slideshows as provided by many other 2-D photo album softwares, add 3D-Album to your collection. It is a truly great software package.

  3. At first glance, I found 3D Album difficult to use and unpractical, but now that I am discovering its pros I am beggining to like it. Picture quality and 3D presentations are spectacular! Maybe I'll go to 5 stars once I learn to use it 100%.

  4. This software has promise. There will be a new version (around $150 retail coming out) that fixes the current problems with this version. Many of the displays are fun (although some are juvenile and others make photos difficult to view).

The 3-D animation comes at a price; if you are satisfied with image quality that is about 85% of what you started with in your photos, you will love this software. Make sure that image degradation is alright with you prior to buying the software. A way around this problem is to choose an animation display that does not move the photos around very much, and also choose one that creates a small image size. In those instances the photo will be sharp. My expectations were that the photos would be displayed at the same size and with the same resolution as existed when previewed with Windows or in a software editor. Unfortunately, with my high-end PC and monitor, the results were not even close to what I was looking for which was a faithful rendition of what appears in non-animated photo display software products. And yes, my Open GL and monitor are set to the correct setting per my numerous e-mails back and forth to their excellent customer support representative.

If your expectations are moderate or you aren't concerned with an absolutely sharp image when weighed against the ease of album creation and distribution, this software is for you, especially at this price. Since, as I've mentioned, my expectations were different, I am disappointed with 3D-album's performance.

  5. Very nice program, I am enjoying using it but I would like to know how to add music from my hard drive or a cd? Do I need to buy a MP3 player to add music? Also, can the flip album be copied onto a picture cd? thanks. eddie

  1. I love to go on road trips. One of the highlights of my going on vacation is the planning stage. The Trip Maker 1999 made the process a whole lot simpler. From the ease of use of the software to the amount of information it supplies, the Tripmaker is a perfect planning tool. I had my 2 week trip mapped and printed out in less than 2 hours. It shows you the fastest route, or the more scenic drive, rest stops and hotels that will fit your budget, and area attractions along the way. It will even calculate a budget for you! How can you go wrong with it? The only way to improve the Tripmaker would be to teach it to drive the car!

  2. Better than nothing and may be a good product if it was 10 years ago but in this day and age of advanced software it stinks! Detail is sketchy, print outs come out nothing like what you see on the screen. The printed directions are ok but the maps are close to worthless and you would much rather use your hard copy map even if they are a pain to refold!

Hey Rand McNally! Improve it will ya!

3 comments about The National Geographic Complete 109 Years.
  1. Since more than a century the National Geographic Society brings the world to your home. Excellent articles enhanced with beautiful pictures by professional photographers let you glimpse a wide range of topics, from descriptions of countries, towns and villages, over people and animals, to scientific reports. This is certainly one of the best witness of the history of the twentieth century.
Many of these expeditions are actually financey by the National Geographic Society. The writer is always participant and often even the responsible scientist or traveller.
Spanning more than a century it might seem that many article are old. But they are still very interesting since they show worlds long lost to the spread of civilization. Furthermore, it gives the reader insights into the world as it was seen in other times.
The CD-Box compresses this vast knowledge into a small box. The integrated search function lets you find your topics of interest quickly. This is certainly one of America's best products and worth your money and time.

  2. They scanned the pages and then compressed them into JPEGs. Even a top quality laser printer can't help the grey, smeary text output. If you like reading blurred text in a post card size window you'll be satisfied. Otherwise you're better off going to a library. I'm gonna sell my copy or give it away.

  3. A reference library in true sense - you can see, scan, read and browse. Only regret I have is that we can't take good prints of the beautiful pictures for which NGS is famous for.

It had been my lifetime dream to possess all NGS issues and to that extent this collection fulfils the requirement. The presentation of the package could have been better - more compact (with 31 CDs the package can be made less than 50% of the present volume), easy to access a particular CD and sturdy. After all the people who buy this collection are not the 'use-and-throw' type of people - they revere and respect the effort that has gone into making it a reality. The hundreds of man-years which have gone into it deserve better treatment.

Another good thing about it is it gives good historical review of technological products like cameras, automobiles and electronics - through advertisements.
