  1. This game is great! you get to go over music, geography and more! This game even features different troggles then ever. For example: Slimy replaces Zubb the grum from word munchers. The Pladipus replaces Spidy from the other Muncher games and so on. It's just so challanging! I justgot something to tell you. Don't compare Trivia Munchers To this game. Why? Cause it's the same game! (Knowledge munchers was formaly Trivia Munchers)Try it. You'll like it!

  1. Our corporation tried installing this software on a variety of operating systems that it claims to support and all we ever get is an error that says "class does not support automation" and it quits. We go to the web site listed on the CD, www.typingtutor.com looking for a patch or update and just get routed to Simon and Schuesters main page, no patches, no support, no way for us to even use this product.

  2. It was very helpful, and great bargain, and a good beginners teaching instrument. Highly Recommeded!

  3. I am an elementary school computer literacy teacher and I bought this for my lab. The students love it! I use this with 3rd-5th graders. We are running W2K on our machines, and once in a while, the program will freeze when switching lessons. I end the program, and re-open it fine. It does save all the work when it freezes, so we are able to pick up where we left off. Also, I stress accuracy over speed with my students, and the games allow you to work on accuracy over speed. I have my students working on a goal of 15 WPM (higher if needed) and the games are much too fast for this typing speed, even when they are set to focus on accuracy. Many students get frustrated. If they can type at least 25 WPM, they have no trouble with the games.
Overall, this is a great program for the price. I even use it to practice my own skills!

  4. I purchased this to help my children learn to type. It worked. I didn't have to beg them to do it either.

  5. I did not like this product. It was very particular (you accidently hit the space bar twice and you have to correct it or it counts everything after that as an error). Not only does this slow you down, but it ill-prepares you for official typing tests (i.e. at college or a career center) where you ignore your mistakes and keep going (which is how you are supposed to type; you should not edit until you are finished).

Also, there were some errors in the program itself (i.e. four spaces between words) and you'd really lose a lot of time trying to figure out what you were doing wrong. A few times the program made you type a letter "doubbble" or more before it would register. (Mistake intentional to show what I'm describing).

  1. Excellent program. Fun, and kids actually LEARN! However, it's full of bugs - no pun intended. It is a big disappointment when it doesn't work.

  2. This is the best typing program ever!! I loved that they used Timon and Pumbaa. It was so fun and entertaining for us kids, well still teaching us. I learned to type in a week or two because I could not stop playing it, it was so fun!!

  3. I love it! The best part in this game is the coloring studio. The dalmatians look good if you put more spots on them or black. This needs a sequel, only it will let you draw spots on the puppies.

    :)

  4. I got this for my children and it seemed great. Very shortly thereafter I retired the old PC they were using and upgraded (to a PIII 500) so I could safely give them limeted Internet access. Part of that upgrade was to use Win2K Pro for web security. None of their Disney CDs are compatible above Win98. Good software but incompatible in the new millenium. "Disney... surely you can do better than this." (And please do.)

  5. This game is getting a very high rating by reviewers. Problem is, the reviews shown are NOT for this game! Many reviews are talking about teaching typing, coloring dalmations, etc. None of that applies to The Emperor's New Groove. There apparently are other versions of "Activity Centers", and reviews shown are for them.

Emperor's New Groove doesn't run on Windows XP, not even in compatability mode. I downloaded the patch required, and parts run, but not all. And the parts that run are very dull for anyone over about the age of 4. I got the game for our 6 year old, and it's not in the slightest bit challenging or entertaining. One of the game sections won't run at all, even with the patch. Even if this game ran perfectly, it would bore a normal 5 yr. old, so I can't imagine how they rated it for up to age 8.

I don't think Amazon should be selling this. Come on, how many people haven't ugraded since Windows 98? The only kids who would enjoy this game probably live in a third world country where computers and possibily electricity are novel inventions. Amazon and/or Disney should check into donating the games they have left.

3 comments about CorelDraw 9.0 Graphics Suite.
  1. I purchased Corel Draw 9.0 to make maps, text, and graphics. I find it hard to use, and incompatible with most of the commercial printers I use.

I have not been impressed with their customer service to correct problems inherent in my software. It's been 36 hours since I've tried to resolve why my software won't mirror, and I still don't have an answer.

  2. I've been using CorelDraw since 1998. In my opinion, it is a very nice vector drawing tool, a lot more stable than CorelDraw 8, and more user-friendly and less expensive than v12.

Built-in PDF support is one feature worth mentioning. Printing to PDF Distiller from v8 took ages, and results were unpredictable. The built-in support makes PDF creation a fast and easy process.

  3. I'm a graphic designer who uses this product on a daily basis at work, and HAD to buy my own copy for home because I loved it so much -- it is an extremely versatile product and can be utilized for so many functions -- At work we use it to set up screenprint designs to burn directly on screens and send files directly to a material cutter (for embroidery applique and vinyl heat press). You can simply click a couple times to copy any picture from your own files or the internet into a file, and set up any type of document from magazines to birthday cards. It comes with additional programs that can turn any picture into a vector graphic with some really cool looks; it even comes with something like 1000 fonts (not many specialty ones, however); it's just great! The only reason I don't give this program 5 stars is that I am a trained designer and I'm not positive that someone who just wants to pick this up and use it will be able to without taking some time to study and learn how to use the program (mostly because of terminology and such, it is really pretty user friendly). And I got my copy at a GREAT price (why spend hundreds more for a new version when this one works really well???)

  1. My son and I are having a bast learning how to type with this computer program. He is 10 years old and it is amazing how fast he is picking it up from this game. I highly recommend it for anyone... children or adults. And it is so affordable!

  2. This is a good product. I have used this product for one year, and already I'm typing 55 words per minute. I started last year, sixth grade, and I'm typing almost as fast as my mom. This game is really fun because you learn while playing games.

  1. This is a fine quality software for the price you'll pay. But I still like the ease of use that Windway Resume offers. Overall this software is good. The only thing it lacks is the job websites.

  2. Hey, get that "works for macs" thing off the ad. It doesn't. And I didn't get a refund. I spit on this product and the place who sold it to me.

5 comments about Sun StarOffice 7.
  1. I went through the reviews posted here and it's a like a mountain of praise to a sea of tears! Anyways, as a brief 'bout myself: I love to use open-source products, know quite a bit about software and applications, etc.

There's ONE CRITICAL aspect of Star Office/Open Office which has caused me to DUMP the software: Usage of available memory. I have verified in 3 machines running Pentium server-racks, notebook, Centrino and all having at least 256 Mb/512 Mb of RAM this product is definitely a memory hogger. Task manager continuously shows Star Office at top of the list in terms of Mem. consumption. ALL other applications - slow down.

Finally, let's admit 1 thing: You can NOT beat MS-Excel - period. I think that's the BEST EVER product of Microsoft other than MS-DOS. So, those having to work in Excel extensively - please stick to Microsoft.

Why I give 3? Any product hogging that much memory - is bad: period. It's NOT a server, don't tell me crap that there's Java and etc. - it's not doing OLTP : So? Esp. if this hogging affects ALL other applications I run: For ex.: Firefox/IE; Outlook;MS-Project, etc. ~ Then sorry!!

  2. StarOffice 7 is just as good as Microsoft Office, for a fraction of the cost. I am well pleased with the product.

  3. I suspect there are other minor differences not mentioned here or below, but I wanted to mention one difference for Japanese Speakers using OO or StarOffice.

The popular office package from Just Systems, in particular the word processing package "Ichitaro," remains a standard in Japan. In particular many official documents are drafted and circulated in this format. (The Courts and certain national and regional bureacratic offices come to mind.)

Unfortunately, there is no "free" import filter available in the current releases of OpenOffice. However, the StarOffice release includes a filter that was developed under contract and release by Sun. This provides an important incentive to purchase the StarOffice package for anyone doing commerical copywork or translation.

Development of a filter continues but as of January 2006, nothing is released (on the authors research).

As regards, the quality and usability of the product from this bilingual with significant professional experience in U.S. and Japanese business, my experience is dumping MS Office and using either StarOffice or Openoffice is unlikely to present significant problems.

I began using the product in the pre-release stage and has used it since alongside MS and other products. There have been occasional data corruption and other problems. However in the course of doing translation with different versions of Word documents and codesets, there have been more problems using MS products. I trust my professional work on the Sun products no less (or more) than the MS products.

Incidently, the Just System Ichitaro has never given me data corruption problems but I have never used it as heavily as the MS or Sun products.

  4. Mr./Ms. BM_NINADA said that StarOffice hoggs memory.
    I am using OpenOffice 2.0.
I am looking at my consumption at this very momemnt having one machine running MS Word the other OpenOffice .
OpenOffice uses 60Meg, the MS Word uses 30Meg. In big scheme of things it is insignificant difference. I have 1G of memory so we talking about difference between one using 3 and the other 6 percent.

  5. Version 7 is about 90+% compatible with MS Office. For the price it is a good value.

2 comments about Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Planetary Pack (Linux).
  1. Where can I begin with this game? For any Sci-fi fan, this game is for you. I picked up a copy of Alpha Centauri from one of my friends. And I instantly got hocked on it. The whole concept of this game is wonderful. Earth life is threatned so the UN sent the game charcters up into whole new solar system (which I read you can see from earth) to start a new life. But when the spaceship lost connection to earth and the captain was killed, panic broke out. You start a new game crash landing on Planet. The first priority is to build a defense for your new base. Throuout the game you have to comunicate with other factions ( people who were on the UN ship and have landed on Planet to), build new bases (expand) and base facilities), build up a military, and go to war. You get to chose from a wide varity of characters to chose from. A few examples are Chairman Yang of the Hive and Brother Lal of the Peacekeepers. Each Character has thier own personality. You my find some hard to work with (if you decide you want to work with them). Also, each charcter has their own opinon on how to govern Planet. And when I found the Alien Crossfire Expansion, I was evn more excited. More factions, techs, and projects. I think I've talked enough but if you have any questions about the game please e-mail me.

  2. Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire is the best strategy game I have played in a long time. A boost even from the simpler Civilization II and other programs in that series, it is fantastic to play and a lot of fun. I reccomend the Pirates to play. Hint: Use global warming to your advantage!
