5 comments about Simply 3D 3.0 (1-user).
  1. It was easy, simple and just plain fun making your own animations. You can render it and put it ON YOUR WEB PAGE. You can make movies and create your own objects.

  2. Simply 3D is just that - simple. This wonderful program allows it's users to created 3D graphics and animations for the web or presentations with just a few clicks of their mouse. Simply 3D also comes with a text editor and a variety of different clip art and patterns. A truly great program for those with little experience in 3D graphics.

  3. Simply 3D is a good program for beginners in that it has many templates and wizards to assist new users. Perhaps this is why the program comes with such poor documentation. The manual that comes with the software is mostly a series of tutorials geared to creating business related web graphics. The online help system gives bare bone information about program features, but lacks detailed information about more advanced modeling techniques. A book that may help a user get more out of this software is Getting Started With 3D, by Janet Ashford and John Odam, which explains 3D software terminology and techniques and isn't software specific. Although geared to the graphic artist and student, this book can also be an asset to the imaging hobbiest.

So if your looking for a program to create web graphics, indoor still life images, or backdrops for other 3D models this program offers a good value for the money. Advanced users would most likely be frustrated by the programs lack of export capabilities, making it harder to use it with other 3D applications and from what I see it's import capabilities are also somewhat lacking. Images from various programs can, however, be combined in 2D programs like Photoshop post production. If you are looking for something easy to produce impressive web graphics or a good program for someone who isn't sure they will like working with 3D graphics and want to try it, Simply 3D may be your most economical answer.

  4. Simply 3D 3.0 is decent for simple text or Very simple object rendering and animation. Rendering is good, but the animation engine kinda sucks. It claims to support importing of *.dxf files, but it doesn't import well, if at all. I do use it to create 3D animated text for web developement, but if you want more out of it, try spending a little more money on professional software.

  5. We purchased this product from Amazon.com and the listing ID # is 0911L079611. We attempted to purchase Simply 3D version 3.0 and was sent Version 2.0

We have had no success in reaching the seller... We are really saddned and dissapointed in these results

5 comments about Berlitz Think and Talk Spanish.
  1. As a rebuttle to the prior review, I have not ordered this program, but I would like to make a correction. Using "diga" to answer the phone is very common in most spanish speaking countries. This may be confusing, but many words are conjugations of other words, and "diga" comes for "Decir" meaning "speak." The program is not wrong, but it may not be effective in explaining all pertinent information.

  2. As a correction, I will briefly say that "diga" is the correct way to answer the telephone. In fact, "diga" is in the dictionary, but it is a conjugate of the word "decir," meaning to speak. Just like "does" may not appear in our dictionary because it comes from "do". Please do not hold this against the program, because they are correct. However, it may lack in explaining the pertinent information on why one word is used instead of another.

  3. I found myself in a new work situation where I absolutely had to communicate in Spanish to my new employees, including everything from raises, hiring, firing, promotions, applications, and much more. Having virtually no success in previous Spanish courses, I bought this CD-ROM, and just stayed with it through all 50 lessons. Before I knew it, I was being told by my employees that my Spanish was excellent, a few said it was "perfect". The CD covers many basic settings, and is done in a fun, non-intimidating way. It helped me hear, speak, write and read Spanish.

All I can say is the Berlitz method works, I give it my highest recommendation, and hope that anyone else who needs to learn Spanish (or any other language) will enjoy the success I had with this CD. While it may be true that we don't say "diga" when we answer the phone, as others have commented about this CD, I would not trade that shortcoming for any other Spanish method, because nothing I used was nearly as successful as this one.

  4. berlitz employees write most of the gushing reviews posted on this site. Beware that there are much less expensive products, that there is nothing revolutionary about these products, and that you will find less expensive variants elsewhere. Be cost conscious and know that you will not learn a language from a cd rom

  5. I would like to respond to the reviewer who wrote that the "gushing" reviews are all written by Berlitz employees. I am not, nor have I ever been, an employee of Berlitz, nor any company affiliated with Berlitz in any way. My full name is in my review, anyone who wishes may contact Berlitz and confirm that I have never worked for them in any location. I did try quite a number of other Spanish language systems, and this is the one that worked. Period. For the $15.00 or so I paid for CD, plus an hour of work every day for several months on the CD, the payoff was fantastic, far better than any other system I used. I am happy that others have success with other systems, I am only reporting my success with this one.

5 comments about Adobe Photoshop Album.
  1. I would advise anyone considering buying Adobe Photoshop Album to visit Adobe's website. A look at the forum section will give you an idea of the MANY problems users are having trying to make this buggy software work properly.

I installed the Starter Edition to see if I wanted to buy the full program later. My experience with Starter Edition was very positive. The full version is another story altogether. It simply won't install on my computer. The program claims to support WIN98 SE, but during installation I get a message telling me it won't support my operating system, which is, you guessed it, Windows 98 Second Edition.

Another reviewer here mentioned that he had the same trouble and had to do an exhaustive search through the Adobe user forums to find a solution. Its pretty sad when a software comany's user base has to assist each other to use one of its products.

Adobe has a good reputation, but this clunker is not up to their usual standard. Avoid it!

  2. Album delivers all of the basic features you would expect from such a product with some minor weaknesses and some nice surprises. The Fix function is a bit weak, even compared to some free programs. Specifically, the lighten/darken feature is a bit weak and AutoFix does not seem to make any significant improvements to photos. The backup feature is very easy to use but it requires a new CD each time, even if you are doing incremental backups and only bakcup a small number of files. This is wasteful and is a weakness. The photo Move and Rename features also add a lot of value and work well.

  3. I am very displeased that when you pay for a program and you receive a 10 page book on how to use it and have a questions that Adobe wants to charge you 40.00 to answer a question. I thought I had a great program to use for our church pictures, but I was mistaken. Money down the drain! I called and they said that is there policy. They will be glad to answer installation problems, but not on how to use their product.

  4. I have used Photo Album versions 1 and 2, and have created CD slide shows of my bicycle tours. It is never easy to do. When you first import photos into the program's "well" they are large enough to see what's in them. When you go to the next stage (the "create" stage) -- where you can sort and re-arrange the slides -- the photos are way too small and you can't enlarge them. Also, I create title pages in Photoshop and import them, and in the "create" stage, you can't make out the words to figure out where to place them. Also, I have prepared complete slide shows and gotten to the point where I was previewing them (as happened today) and the program would freeze, and I lost hours of work. Not good! Now we know why Adobe has stopped selling the program and is just providing a simple version for free.

  5. I am writing this because of all the negative reviews stating that this program is weak for editing or making DVDs, etc. This program, which I have used for many years, in my opinion is intended ONLY for storing photos in a logical way. First, it does not contain the photo images, only a pointer (shortcut) to those images which are stored elsewhere on the computer. You can store them in categories and sub-categories or you can access them by a simple time-line for when the photo was taken. If you want to edit the photo, you should use a photo editing program - of which many good ones exist. Once the photo is edited, the "fixed" version is now what you see in the PhotoShop Album program. I use Windows "My Pictures" file to store all my GOOD photos and PhotoShop Album to store links to the BEST photos - further, this program is what my iTunes (and my iPod) link to. It's a great cataloging program - just don't use it for editing and say you're disappointed.

5 comments about Adobe InDesign 1.5.
  1. InDesign is chock full of tools, and it integrates so well with other Adobe products. I rarely find a need to move back and forth between InDesign and image design programs. Having used PageMaker for years, I nevertheless kept a copy of Ventura on my hard disk because of some of the features it offers. I don't see the need for that anymore. I recommend InDesign for anyone who is seriously interested in desktop publishing.

  2. I have been using InDesign 1.5 for the last one year and is constantly amazed by its features and flexibility. I have given up Quark for good. Fortunately, our printer has also been willing to change and so we are able to bring out much better stuff than what we were previously doing with QuarkXpress, especially superb typography, and excellent and precise colour.

InDesign is now to Quark as Quark was to PageMaker years ago. It may take some time for the graphic professionals to change, given the investment they have made into QXP and its xtensions, but change they will have to. Fortunately, Indesign is easy to learn, especially if you know photoshop or illustrator. So one can switch any time.

  3. Because PageMaker 6.5 is such a useful product in comparison to the likes of Microsoft Publisher, Indesign, at first glance, appears to be nothing too fabulous given simple layouts. But try something a little more complex and Indesign quickly shows how fabulous it is. A deceptively simple layout such as the front page of a newspaper, for example, with its columned text boxes is hard going in PageMaker, but so much easier with Indesign: Sit back and let the pasted text auto-flow in the columns so easily applied.

Text placed along a curved line as an overlay directly in the document instead of trying to import an EPS from Illustrator is equally impressive. And the colour printouts / proofs from your office desk-jet are also.

The edit > preferences > etc are much better, you only having to set the image display option once instead of every time you go to create a new document.

Short cut keys such as Z and H for the zoom and hand / pan tools are now consistent with other Adobe applications, but many of the commands in PageMaker do not apply: auto-flow for text being one such discrepancy, as is the way in which placed images are resized via their sizing handles. This is a little disconcerting, but the included help-manual is of great assistance for matters such as these. ( Pity it's not a PDF one like in Acrobat. Why does Adobe not do this across their applications? ).

Indesign has a PDF export option, but I found that the file sizes were pretty large in comparison to those created via Distiller as postscript files and then distilled for a given job-option setting. The only problem with this approach was that the colour was CMYK and not RGB as with the direct export option. Perhaps this is because the try-out version I was using didn't have the full postscript driver setup. Users who don't have Acrobat will not find this an issue.

For making up complex - for print - designs, Indesign works very well. But care should be exercised if you are creating PDFs for screen viewing, since it's all too easy to create pages that are very dense and hard to manage in the Acrobat Reader.

  4. After having used PageMaker and XPress for years, I can honestly say that I am very glad to have InDesign around. The old applications are happily chucked. The interface is very intuitive and in a rare case of marketing matching reality, Adobe has created an application that, if you work well with their other apps, you'll pick this up easily.
At least that was my experience.

  5. This is funny...ive been using Quark (eww)but it was good, until i wanted something more pro. Then comes InDesign , i use this on all my School Reports...and guess what pops up???

    A+
    A+
    A+
    A+
    A+

blah blah blah, i might die if i see another A+, LoL iam joking but if your looking for something that beats the "FREAK" out of Quark, some thing that Makes PUBLISHER LOOK LIKE A BABYS TOY, then i suggest you get a life. Iam only joking, get this prog now. But yes, theres a hefty price to pay! but oh well, sure is worth the A+'s....... mwuahahah LoL, and guess what my teacher called my dad i was like "OH SHOOT...IAM I IN TROUBLE AGAIN" LoL...but to only find out she loved my designs...i was like go....nevermind, LoL. but yeah she was JeaLouS. Little fool. Iam joking teach. (if you ever read this) but back to my review...THIS IS A MUSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTT buY!!!!!!!!!!

  1. This software is pretty good. Usually this works okay. It does have cool effects. The reason I gave it a three is sometimes it get messed up. Like if you have two buttons close together they overlap. Then if you hit one button it actually hits the other one.

2 comments about Curious George Reads Writes and Spells Ages 6-8 Lunchbox Edition.
  1. I use this CD in my second grade classroom. Students love the familiar "Curious George" character, which keeps them entertained. The skills taught on this CD are perfect for first graders or weak second graders. The skills are all age-appropriate. The CD also contains many printable worksheets for additional student practice, as well as short, printable stories that can be laminated and used for years to come.

  2. I bought this for my 8 year old to improve his spelling in English. The spelling skills sections are well organized and levels can be changed, the program allows time for reactions...BUT...the character voice talent also used for some of the spelling cannot clearly pronounce the "s" sound, and to a lesser extent the "t" sound. I can't see the point of using a voice saying "shtay" or "ath" and expecting children to know that this means "stay or "at".

5 comments about Kiddix Platform 1.0.
  1. We have been using Kiddix for quite a few months now. This is a very good piece of software for our kids. It is easy to set up and easy for them to use. The developers always appreciate feedback and incorporate suggestions into future versions. My kids especially like the paint program and surfing the web. With all the various idiot-proof filters I know they will be safe when using Kiddix and I know all my data in Windows will be 100% safe too.

  2. I purchased this software because of the reviews and thought my children would enjoy it. Turns out there are some complications if you are downloading on a vista platform. Worked well but was not able to switch back to the vista operating system. The directions for downloading with vista run computers was good but did not work for me. I had to replace computer and am hoping a new version of Kiddix will be out soon.

  3. I have 5 children between the ages of 12 and 3...and each of them like to tinker with the computer. Kiddix enables the youngest ones to enjoy a safe environement that makes sense to them. They know how to boot their computer into Kiddix (Win NT is also installed) log in under their individual IDs, and access the programs that they like. The paint program and the games are most popular with the younger ones. They also like to explore the various parts Kiddix and the Web...and it is good to know that I don't have to look over their shoulders constantly.

It was easy to install, and runs nicely alongside Windows NT. I haven't tried it on a Vista machine.

This is a great product for younger kids (most popular in my house with my 5 year old twins). I hope a pre-teen and adolescent version is in the works.

  4. We love this prodcut for our 5 year old. She has learned a lot about navigating a computer environment and still has access to traditional web-based programs (Nick and Webkinz). I love that the platform creates a safe and secure area for me to monitor and configure while also being able to use the laptop for business purposes without fear of child tampering of the windows platform or important files

  5. I don't have kids, but I have friends and sisters who do, and I'm always the person they call when their kids manage to mess up their machines. Deleted files, infested spyware, useless and memory hogging downloads...kids and these things go together and since i'm "the computer person," it's usually my job to fix what's broken.

I got Kiddix for my most troublesome kid-friend and her frustrated mom, and I haven't been bugged to "debug" their machine since. This makes me very happy.

The install was pretty painless, and my friend set it all up for her daughter pretty quickly.

it would be great if there were a version for 12 year old boys...can't beleive the stuff they "accidentally" download.
