5 comments about How to Program HTML Frames: Interface Design and Javascript.
- I brough this book on a whim (thanks Amazon). After designing several websites I've been wanting to design a framed site for the longest but have been very skeptical about it (browser issues) - until reading this book. This book is definitely for the beginner to the intermediate programmer/designer. The best part about the book is that it's not written from a "expert" point of view. I did find some of step by step lessons a bit sketchy but overall it's a descent book to get you up to speed on frames.
- Neither a reference, a guide, a tutorial, nor a workbook. Toss out the glossy color images, reduce the oversized font, sift it down to the actual useful information, and this book could be printed on two pages. If the author indeed asked himself why an entire book should be devoted to HTML: Frames, perhaps he could have spared us all his answer and just produced a pamphlet. The sophomoric quasi-historical segment at the beginning of the book was perhaps added merely to meet some minimal weight requirement. Ziff-Davis Press sinks to new lows. One wonders at the propriety of using this as a required text in a web based course offered by... Ziff-Davis! This is one you will definitely want to throw away. Spend your money on a decent text, one which you'll be glad to hang on to and use as a reference.
- I found this book cleanly and clearly explains how to integrate frames into web design. Examples and illustrations reenforce how to do things. I've looked at it more than a few times to check things when I am working.
- This book is my most used reference book on web design. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to create a better, more interesting, web site. Jason deals with design and includes lots of things that could and should be avoided. For those who are tired of learning how to say 'Hi!' in C, C++, VB, Perl, ad.infinum, and want to accomplish something while they are learning, this book is a blessing.
- This book had tips and information I needed to build my 1st framed site that were nowhere else to be found, even in much more expensive and 'expert' books. I highly recommend it.

- I wish that they would have worked harder at actually teaching the language rather than just giving boilerplate examples
- This is one of the most useful JavaScript books i have purchased. The combination of insightful examples and well-documented techniques had me up and running in no time. This book is most useful for people who want to actually USE JavaScript in their web projects, not just learn about it in a theoretical way.

5 comments about Using Javascript (Special Edition Using).
- It is apparent by looking at the cover of this book how many topics (19 in all) it attempts to cover. However, even a book as lengthy as this one (~ 950 pgs.) simply cannot thoroughly cover all of these subjects. If the book is about JavaScript, it should focus on JavaScript, why is there a Java tutorial? Where did VBScript and Active X come into the picture? Granted, there are not many things the book leaves out, it all seemed extremely scattered and there were very few chapters I left feeling that I had a solid understanding of the JavaScript within them. For instance, in the stylesheets chapter (why there even is one, I'm not sure) there are the two approaches, CSS and JSSS presented. It then proceeds to waste 80% of the chapter on CSS when this is a JavaScript book and the focus should have been on JavaScript stylesheets. It also said very little about how JavaScript can interact with stylesheets. In short, if you are a web beginner looking to get an introduction to a variety of web design topics, I recommend this book. If you are a serious web designer who wants to learn JavaScript basics and advanced functions, keep looking.
- This is definately a great choice for anyone trying to learn, continue to learn, or master JavaScript. This book can be considered a tool. With several examples in every chapter and definitions, this book has been real useful to me. As a webmaster on the net, and a person who has learned the programming on his own, I strongly would reccommend this book to all!
- This book is a total waste of money if you are seriouly thinking about programming in JavaScript. It doesn't have good examples in fact not once in the book does it even give an example of how to do a roll-over. I thought complete meant complete. This is a waste of money look toward WROX Press or O'Reily.

- This book's coverage of JavaScript is spotty at best. Not even close to being worth the trees it took to print this thing.

5 comments about Javascript Bible, 2nd Edition.
- I bought this book as my first JavaScript book and found many interesting examples. A lot of them can be easily added to your pages using the source code on the boundled CD-ROM. It describes JavaScript from the very inception till complicated scripts that probably aren't what everybody's looking for. I SUGGEST THIS BOOK to those like me that are familiar with programming but have no finacial founds to buy a server and experience with CGI. JavaScript doesn't require that much in terms of knowledge and this book it's also great in the way it presents the various functions of the language. In the end I just add this: there are tons of pages about JavaScript around as you can see in any bookstore that might confuse you when choosing....I suggest you this because I tried.
- I've been reading this book on and off for about a year now. It seems easier to be used as a quick reference than Flanagan's Definitive Guide. But the index of this book is neither complete nor well-indented. If saving space is a concern, use smaller fonts. Yes, I found quite a few errors as other did. The good thing about the book is (I think) Goodman is a clear writer.
- This is a great book and a great resource to the new people in JavaScript. It starts at the beginning and reaches to the end. I can't waite to get the 3rd edition!

3 comments about Html 3.2 Cd With Javascript for Windows 95.
- As a programmer myself I found this book to be unlike most tech books in that it keeps the interest level up, not at all the usual dry, dull, verbage.
Examples are consistant through-out the text with few exceptions. (Focusing mainly on the mythical Kelly Kayaker and her publisher's web pages) The CD with this book includes some great utilities, some shareware, some demo. Overall a good textbook.
- I basically ordered this because it offered both HTML and Javascript. I wanted a refresher on HTML and a stepping stone to get up to HTML 4.0 from regular old HTML. I also wanted this book to teach me all about Javascript and the functions. Well, it was very basic on Javascript. This book had the basics about Javascript but only limited functions and useless examples. Maybe one good example. If you need a book for HTML this is a good book, but if you want to really get into Javascript this isn't the book for you. It has enough Javascript for the very basic of web page designers. Maybe someone who has barely heard of Javascript. But this book is probably enough for people just beginning to make web pages. It will definitely get you wanting to know more about Javascript.
