1 comments about Teach Yourself Javascript.
- As a warning, this book is directed at novices who have little programming experience and no prior exposure to JavaScript. If you have programming experience but no prior exposure to JavaScript, you will find it simplistic at times but will still likely benefit from reading it; however, if you have prior exposure to JavaScript, you probably won't learn much from it.
Those looking for a quick intro to the language will appreciate this book, however, and will especially like the book's clarity and concision. It tends to avoid to get bogged down with extraneous detail (the one exception being in the section on forms, where the author basically re-introduces most of the HTML form concepts; this is supposed to be a book on JavaScript, not HTML, and the back cover claims it assumes a knowledge of HTML, so I'm not exactly sure why that material was there).
As one more warning, this book will not introduce you to the more advanced or modern functionalities of JavaScript. With that said, it'll still provide the tyro with a good introduction.

- This book attempts to provide a concise description of the JavaScript language plus the associated browser objects. It is probably not suitable for beginners who need detailed explanations, but should be useful for experienced programmers who know the basics and want a quick reference. The biggest flaw is the number of errors - I came across at least 8 in my first casual read through (if the publisher reads this, p38, 39 have a couple of particularly bad mistakes). Most of these errors are so blatant that you can easily infer the real meaning, but it smacks of poor editing. I wonder if any programmers reviewed the text before printing? For this reason, I would look elsewhere or wait for the next edition.
- I just finished the JavaScript Programmer's Reference. I must say that I have been wrestling with Javascript on different browsers since it came out and all my other references are dog-eared and worn out with all the wear they have received while trying to find out why things don't work (the way I think they should). This book is GREAT! It is clear, portable, and facile. I'm impressed. I wish I had something like this for all the areas I need.
Please say thanks to the authors for me. - Bob Giuli, Internet Architect

- I like this book a lot because unlike the other books dealing with JavaScript this one very readable.
- This book provides some basic tutorials for learning JavaScript. Some of the tutorials are good but others are not adequately explained. It includes a partial explanation of objects but assumes prior knowledge of structured programming. Lots of unnecessary repetition of code listings makes the book twice as thick as it needs to be. It is useless as a reference book, so I think the title is misleading. This book by itself will not teach you JavaScript . I was able to use this book as a starting point to learn JavaScript but only because I also referred to other books and on-line reference sources. I think including a CD is just an excuse to charge $50 for what should have been a $15 book; I didn't find anything useful on the CD.
- Unfortunately, the title is very misleading so I gave it a three instead of a four, but the book offers the beginner a good, painless foundation to the language. It doesn't cover all the intricacies of JavaScript, but it puts you in a position to pursue the more comprehensive but not as friendly treatments found in the some of the other texts (e.g., O'Reilly, JavaScript Bible).
It points out the incompatibilty in the browsers, and gives basic treatments for handling each. Though I'm an experienced programmer, I read it on my daily bus commute in a week. The book assumes a basic familiarity with HTML, and little programming knowledge.
- I have found "JavaScript Complete" a very good recource for all of the JavaScript commands. "JavaScript Complete" is not just a programmers reference but a book suited for students or web developers, amateur or professional! I also liked the CD that came with the book because it contains an abundance of pre-made html code and totally follows the books content. If your definitely into JavaScript and html this book is a must.
- The title of this book JavaScript Complete isn't only missleading its an outwright lie. The book is writen at the most basic of all levels, even someone with no programming experience would find it to basic. The size of the book could be cut in half if it wern't for the incredible about of code repition. Oh, while I'm on the subject of code his coding style is sad to say the least, not to mention the fact I found I few things to be just plane wrong. Don't be fooled by the title there is nothing complete about this book, I honestly can't emagine anyone who would benifit from it. Your money would be much better spent on a less expencive more comprehesive book.

- If JavaScript were magic, and you were an intermediate mage, this would be the book to go with. Methods, properties, attributes, etc., are neatly detailed in spellbook fashion -- including individual compatibility charts for today's major browsers. "Inside JavaScript" takes a comprehensive look at everything JavaScript without having the reader wade through tedious background drivel. Moreover, the text covers the DOM and CSS quite well - providing adequately documented code samples where necessary.
The relative freshness of this book allows for a more complete approach to such developing technologies as XML and Microsoft's external behaviors. Other JavaScript books can't compete for the simple fact that they were, for the most part, penned well before a good deal of the major new technologies out there became a large portion of the developer's toolbox.
- The book covers Javascript 1.5. This may be the best, most complete book on the market. The messy side of using Javascript is that documentation for it is not complete, anywhere, including Netscape's website. Particularly when you want to see an example detailing how to do something. This book is not complete, in that it doesn't detail every element and function that you can do with Javascript. But when comparing it with the current books on the market, including Danny Goodman's Javascript Bible series, this book is better, deeper, more complete. However, if you have never written any Javascript, this is not the book for you, yet. Get a Goodman book, then this one.
- This is one big book, considering it's a fairly basic language. But it's full of helpful examples and has a well organized Table of Contents. It is also useful as it describes cross browser issues. It's very comprehensive. It's the only Javascript book I bother reading if I don't just search the Internet for the answers to my javascript questions.
