5 comments about Music Ace Deluxe.
- I homeschool my daughter and bought this software for Music for third grade. So far, she has really enjoyed it. We're both learning a lot. I know I could not teach her all that she is learning using this software. I highly recommend it for homeschooling families not involved in formal music lessons.
- Hello,
We got a defective CD. It will not work correctly, it skips, and doesn't play right. WE GOT RIPPED! We tried it on more than 3 computers, and it still will not work correctly! When we get a replacement, we will go to a store, and order it thru them! I can not recommend this as a way of buying MUSIC ACE. This was a bogus rip off!

- This program so far has been great. I teach piano lessons and my students really enjoy it. They really feel like it has been helping them learn along with my lessons. I would recommend this product to anyone.
- Our children love to spend time learning music theory and experimenting with the many songs. This is a great tool for helping children understand and love music. My son has taken a special liking to Vivaldi and my daughters love the program as well. It's a great buy to help create a life-long love for learning and experiencing music.
- We purchased several different programs from the same category and Music Ace has some major advantages. First of all it is an education tool not a game. It has learning games, but also delivers the information needed to obtain certain skill. I found that some other programs overly emphasize on games and this often distracted my son.
Music Ace displays both text for readers and is narrated, so early readers or younger players can learn too. The integration with a MIDI adapter is decent and does the job of improving the learning experience.
But most importantly my 7yo son has a lot of fun with this program.
My wife was really surprised that Music Ace is also perfect for parents that do not have music knowledge but want to keep up with their kids lessons.
One con is that the graphics are a bit dated and on the larger LCD screens looks a bit blurry.

5 comments about Adobe Photoshop CS3 Upgrade [Mac].
- Adobe Photoshop CS3 UpgradeI bought this software upgrade a few weeks ago. Although I am still learning how best to use the changes that Adobe has made from the previous CS2 version, it does appear to be a significant advance over Adobe Photoshop CS2. The one problem that I have encountered is that Apple as upgraded its operating system to Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). The result is that there is a problem using the tools that require entering values, such as the CROP tool. Once the values are selected, at some point down the line, it becomes impossible to alter the settings. The Adobe web site says that both Adobe and Apple are aware of this problem and are working to fix it. In the meantime, the only thing that one can do when this problem is encountered is to quit the program and then restart the program again.
- Adobe Photoshop CS3
Installing Photoshop under Vista fails unless a Java script "jscript.dll" is registered. The Adobe installer just quits with "internal error 2739". There is no mention of the problem in the product litrature. The Adobe website has a link to this particular error (dates 2007/07/09) but the link doesn't work.
I spent almost two hours talking to customer service over a very bad line to someone in India who could barely speak English (they couldn't access the online solution article either and had to leave me on hold several times).
The solution is to run the Java script in a DOS window in the correct directory (most important).
A highly irritating experience.
I have yet use the software but it is installed and running.
- The last version I had was Photoshop CS and this version has been worth the upgrade price. I'm not a fan of the digital licensing mechanism, but the product has met my needs.
- I was sort of forced to upgrade because I discovered that my old version 7.0 wouldn't work with Leopard. I would say it is certainly worth the upgrade from version 7.
- You cannot upgrade to Photoshop CS3 from a Creative Suite product. Serial number check will not allow upgrade. I called Adobe customer service to verify. You must purchase stand alone. I wish something on the box had told me that.

5 comments about Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 Win/Mac.
- I am sorry to rain on the parade of adulations for lightroom but..
I have been trialing this software for 26days to date and i simply cannot (and yet also can) understand the hype and adulations this s/w has received to date..
On the plus side..
1. Its a gorgeous user interface
2. It is a great library & catalog program
3. Sorry, there isnt a 3..thats it.
On the negative side..
1. At best it is a so-so image EDITOR.. it recommends you go pay $600 for CS3 to do image editing?.. Luckily you can get Corel Paint shop Pro for $79 and launch it from Lightroom.
2. Its claim to be "all you need" is as false as you get.. unless sending unedited images to the web is all you plan to do.
I have canon equipment and so can use DPP for RAW conversion (free), zoombrowser (free) or Corel photo album @ $39 for organising then honestly is an extra $260 worth it?
In summary,
Look, i am sorry, but for $300 i would expect something more than Elements on steroids, and when you still need an external editor and an external print manager such as Qimage this fails way way short on value for money except for professionals with huge volumes of images.
I am disappointed. I had hoped for a single solution (as claimed) to my workflow...yet i have gone back to using DPP for RAW light management, and i still have to use Paint shop pro for those 5-10% of images that need editing, so in essence lightroom has substituted a prettier interface than corel photo album for image management. For the hobbyist and serious amateur i feel this $299 is more of an ego trip rather than a necessary product.
- If you're a professional photographer who needs to adjust multiple, similar photographs in terms of brightness, contrast, and hue- then this software is a gift from the gods.
For anyone else- people who want to edit one-off photos you took of your family during the last holiday, this software is pretty much pointless and FAR over-priced.
Thankfully we were smart enough to download the latest trial version from adobe before dropping hundreds of dollars on this dud. We stared at it for a while trying to figure out how to do a very simple edit and then gave up (BTW: I have 25 years in the IT industry and am pretty proficient with Photoshop).
Instead, I found a demo of a Photoshop-like program pre-installed on our computer (which costs only $60 to register) and tried to perform the same operation on the same photo. It took about 90 seconds.
Guess which one we'll be buying?
Just before trying both demo programs, I had a chat with a pro photographer (whose name I'll withhold because any decent pro photographer would know who he is, immediately), and he did not have anything positive to say about lightroom, suggesting Photoshop instead.
- The several-day learning curve is worth it, even if you aren't a professional. Lightroom cut the time I spend sorting photos in a third.
It's well worth spending some time learning the keyboard shortcuts - check out the video tutorials on Adobe's site (even before you buy). They'll give you a sense of how you can speed up your workflow, and spend your time actually *taking* pictures, rather than fiddling with them after the fact.
- This program is definitely NOT worth the nearly $300 price tag! It is full of bugs, and lacks functionality and flexibility. I'm really shocked that Adobe priced it this high. Because, the bottom line is that it does very little that any free or low cost photo organizer can't do, and it does nothing well, with the possible exception of providing the ability to save different revisions of a photo, without having to make a copy. (Is that function, alone, worth $300? -- It isn't, to me.
Besides the basic lack of usefullness, the program has some major flaws. For example:
There is no "undo" button. There is an Undo function in the Edit Menu, but the undo history is global, instead of having a separate undo history for each individual photo.
There are only two ways to save a slideshow: You can export to PDF; or you can have the program ftp it to your web site. There is no option to save it to your local drive, as html, so you can rename files and tweak it with your own html editor before sending it to your website. Also, even if you do send it to your web server, the software does not provide a blog capable option that is easy to implement.
Also, I went to a lot of trouble to create a preset in Develop mode, and applied it to a lot of photos in a collection. After I had all the photos the way I wanted them, I decided to try out the slide show creation tool, which, by the way, was not particularly impressive, with its very small number of templates, none of which was appealing to my eye. (There are plenty of "FREE" programs and online applications that will do a much better job at slideshow creation.
Anyway, after trying the 4 or 5 slide show types, I went back to Develop mode, and the preset I had created in Develop mode earlier was GONE! It simply disappeared! Then, to make matters worse, as soon as I returned to the collection where I had applied that preset earlier, it reverted all of the photos to a previous preset, right before my eyes! -- An obvious bug had wiped out 3 hours of work in 2 seconds! With no ability to "undo", since I didn't do it!
There was another bug, where the scrolling photo strip at the bottom would start scrolling really fast when you drap the slider with your mouse, but as soon as you let go of the mouse, it would jump back to where you started, kind of like a rubber band was attached. So, you ended up having to move the filmstrip to the left, one photo at a time, until the scroll bar worked again.
I wish I had listened to the previous reviewer who said this software was not worth the money. They were SOOO right! This software is not in the same class with other programs in this price range, and you do expect a LOT more out of software, when you pay this much for it!
If this software had been $40 or $50, I'd have said it was 'maybe' worth it. Don't these software companies realize that to most people $300 is a LOT of money!? I swear Adobe has got dollar signs tattoo'ed to the insides of their eyelids! Don't they realize that they've priced their software so high that the average consumer can't afford it? You'd think those geniouses would be better at math. They would make a much bigger profit, by pricing their software afordably, because they'd sell a lot more of it. I wish they would quit taking advantage of people the way Microsoft does! I mean, you gotta have an Operating System, so Microsoft kind of has the average consumer bent over a barrel, and they can and do charge exorbatent prices and get away with it, (I guess Gates can never have enough money!)
Well, take my word for it! You can definitely do without this over priced, buggy, not-ready-for-Prime-Time piece of software! Shame on Adobe for pricing it so high!
I wish I could return the product and get my money back! I feel like I was conned, because I expected more from the Adobe name, especially at this price!
If you need a reasonably priced photo editor, for Windows, check out Xara!
- From reading some of the other reviews this product is one that you either love or hate. Yes the 300 USD. is rather steep as is the learning curve, it has helped me to arrange over 25,000 photos stored rather easily. Tagging and date arrangements, the powerful find function will let you sort by specific exif data like type of lens used or aperture or speed photo was shot as well as all the common find functions. Even incorporates geotagging, although because documentation is skimpy if you download the product from adobe, most knowledge breakthroughs come from the internet, where many people have made more gallery settings, web site settings, develop settings that you can add into Lightroom. Once the keyboard shortcuts are learned, cropping, straightening and so many other features become quite easy.
As an owner of photoshop cs3, find myself seldom opening photoshop, tweaking pictures within the develop module with great results with post processing. Buyers should be aware that Lightroom 2.0 beta is out and adds even more features and fine tunes many of the existing features from Lightroom 1.4. Lightroom 2.0 should be out in August of September of this year.
For me, the non-destructive editing is a space saver and picture file conserver of space, not ending up with multiple copies of the same picture each with their own adjustments.
Bottom line if you are willing to read the help columns and blogs and discussion groups on the internet as well as look at the help files on Adobe for learning and try and learn just a couple of things each day, there isn't much that this program will not do for you in categorizing, postprocessing, publishing via ftp for a web site. The only thing that stopped me from 5 stars is the 300 USD price tag, but i guess that is to cover all of the lost revenue to all the bootleg copies floating around.
If you are into photography, have a lot of photos that need organizing and tuning up, this program works very well. Converting raw files to most other image formats and allowing batch exporting, file renaming in a few clicks the task s done..

5 comments about Apple Logic Express 8.
- I purchased this as an adjunct to Cubase on my laptop and as a step up from Garage band. While still adjusting to new ways of doing things, I can see the inherent power contained in the code. For the money, this purchase ia a "Logical" choice.
- I came from a ProTools background so there was a bit of a learning curve but once I got the basics down it is really quite straight forward. Great for a home recording rig. I have the Apogee Duet which works quite well in this set up.
- love it- after 3 years of Garageband- this is a great app- easy to use if you played and got good with GBand! Highly recommend!
- be prepared to read the manual, this program has alot of features and you'll save lots of time you'd be wasting otherwise. included preset's make getting started making music enjoyable.
- It's hot and amazing, But get a training book, because there is a lot to do and the books show everything you might miss. Make music and put out in the world, yeah

1 comments about AutoCAD LT 2009.
- The program and feature layout in nice, but AutoCad needs to stop publishing software with bugs that effect basic functions. For example, after running for a week or so, trying to use the "File' drop down menu crashed the program! Their website acknowledged this and the 'fix' was to turn off the last file used function (when you click file you see the last XX files opened). Ok, so now it doesn't crash, but you have to go to File/open/and search for the last file you used. Irritating!
For 1100 Bucks I would expect more from a company.

5 comments about Better Homes and Gardens Interior Designer.
- I tried to use this product in order to create some visualizations for our kitchen redesign. After sepnding a lot of frustrating time learning the product and building up the room dimensions, doors, etc... I found that the library is EXTREMELY limited in terms of the types of sinks, ranges, etc... you can put in. The result it it is worthless for actually visualizing what appliances, cabinet colors, etc... would look like. The product may be fine for laying out rooms and the like but I would have expected a version called "interior designer" to have a *much* greater selection of objects to be even mildly useful. I'm returning it if I can.
- This program is fairly easy to use with a little trial and error. The renderings available as work is completed allow for relatively good representation of what you should see in real life Very useful for designing traffic flow patterns and placement of furniture prior actual placement. Allows for realistic room design. Image on image, a table on a rug or vase on a table for example, should be less convoluted and easier to accomplish as well as not having to connect all four walls to do flooring and several other things. Overall, I was mostly pleased with the program.
- I'm renovating a bathroom and decided to GC the project myself. This software allowed me to create an accurate drawing of the room (suitable to present to the municipal authorities for electrical and plumbing permits). In addition, it was a lot of fun to try out different interior design elements (pedastal sink vs vanity, etc.) to create the desired final look. The materials list generated by the program was also very helpful. FInally, it was easy to point and click through and I mastered it quickly. Given that the overall cost of this project is many 1000s of dollars, it was worth the extra $50 to do be able to do the design work myself.
- Verry Good Product. Easy to use and a lot of fun! I would DEFINATLY recomend this.
- The product is very easy to use. You don't need to read the manual or do the tutorials to figure it out. There are a lot of things you can do. However, it is also very limiting. Things that should be very simple are difficult. For example, you put an area rug in a room, and then you want to put furniture on top of it. That sounds like something simple but it is not easy. The program will not let you put any piece of furniture on top of something else. Instead you have to place the furniture off to the side, and then either edit its properties, or go into 3D view and lift the furniture off the ground a little, then slide it over the rug. Copying and pasting has a really stupid implemention. It is unconventional and clunky. Also, there is no way to copy multiple items and past them. For example, if you made a room layout you like, and you wanted to move all the stuff from one room to another, or from one floor to another, you cannot select all, copy, then paste. In fact, there is no easy way at all to do it. The frame rate was not so hot in 3D view mode either after filling it with furniture, windows, window treatments and everything. This makes it very difficult to have a smooth walk through of your virtual room. With frame hitching as you walk through the room, it is extremely distracting, and you cannot get a good feel for the space. I do not think it is my computer either. I do not have the most up to date computer, but I do have a Pentium 4 and a pretty good graphics card. They say this works with Windows 98. I'd like to see that actually happen. All in all though, I was able to get enough out of this program to have a good idea of what things will look like when I lay out my furniture in different arrangements, and it helped me figure out if I had enough space to place certain things. Mild thumbs up.

5 comments about Manga Studio 3.0 Debut for Windows.
- This is my first try and computer aided graphics. The program is easy to use. I was able to create some awesome images the first day. I am a little disappointed that NO speech balloons are included with this version. What is a manga or comic book graphic art program without speech balloons? DAH! e frontier could have included a few speech balloons with the Debut version.
- although it has many things that you dont need to buy in a store, it needs some other things, too. I bought it and had it in use almost everyday, but then got bored because is hard to find the tools and you dont wanna just have your front page fool of them. I heard that this software had some problems in a windows vista but i found the info after i bought it. still does not represent any problem to my computater. i have found that i need a tablet to work with it but a tablet does not work in a vista or at least a sheap one. one a comment from me buy it if you have a xp since that it was made for.
- The best drawing program I've seen. Drawing on the computer is an art in itself, and this program has fewer hurdles to overcome. Happy drawing
- I have used this for about a month now and it has saved me hours of work. The interface took a little getting used to,but thats probably cause I am new to working on the computer. All around pretty good.4 stars(there are a couple things that I want it to do but it wont.I probably just need to learn a little more about it.:)
- If your operating system is for Windows Vista I'd advise you to stay away from this program! I purchased this program in Feb.2008 and figured I had plenty of time to install it on my computer. Well, it won't install using Vista as the operating system. I'd probably wouldn't have had a problem if I was running it on my old computer, Window XP was it's operating system but I brought a new one. So don't buy this unless you check to make sure it'll run on your computers operating system! I'd rate this 0 stars since I can't use it but the system wouldn't allow it so it has 1 star!

5 comments about CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 Education Edition [DVD].
- Product is easy and entuitive to use.
Packaging is an issue had to send it pack twice since the disk was not on the hold and was all scratched. Finally got one that worked.
- You get a lot of good stuff with this package, besides just the Graphics Suite. Lots of folks will appreciate the 10,000 clip art images, but I didn't need them, so I deleted them from my hard drive. I also didn't keep the 1,000 high res photos from iStockphoto. I do use a lot of professional photos, but I have an account with iStockphoto and so I didn't need any extras cluttering up my hard drive. HOwever the 1,000 OpenType fonts, those I kept and I'll most likely used them a lot.
The user guide is easy to understand and the video training that comes with the program is, I imagine, helpful, though I only looked at it for a second as I'm pretty familiar with graphics programs, so I just dove right in. CoralDRAW X4 was easy for me to understand, though I'm an old hand at both Freehand (Mac) and Illustrator (Mac and PC), so I didn't expect any problems and didn't get any. If you don't have those programs, then this could easily be a drawing program for you. Corel PHOTO-PAINT was also pretty easy for me to figure out, though I use their Painter program a lot and am a dedicated Photoshop user. Again, if you don't have those programs and they are are expensive, and if you don't have a need for all the tools at your hand in Photoshop, then this suite just might be for you. It's easy to figure out, but if you need help there is plenty there. All in all, I'd have to say this is a graphics suite that would suit that artist inside you.
- A lot of people use Adobe Illustrator, but there is another very fine drawing program out there and this is it. Like with Illustrator you can design and create logos, ads, illustrations for websites and so much more. The program ships with a gang of royalty free software, 10,000 clip art images which you can use in your projects, 1,000 first class photos which you can also use. And 1,000 fonts, which is good for all of us who cannot afford the very expensive Adobe Font Library.
The interface is clean, intuitive and the program is easy to use, though I did watch the videos which came with it and they helped a lot. Also, this is a full fledged vector based program, just like Adobe Illustrator, but you can do page design with it as well, like you would in Quark Express or Adobe InDesign. However, sadly I don't think Photo-Paint in the suite measures up to Adobe Photoshop, but still, it's a useful part of the program.
All in all, I'd say you'll get your money's worth with CoralDraw X4. You can use it instead of Illustrator or Quark and InDesign and that's saying a lot, it really is.
- I got a new computer running Vista and needed to replace all my software. I had an older version of CorelDRAW and many features would not load properly on Vista. The new graphics suite works fine and Amazon got me the software adhead of their promised date. All is well, again.
- I am looking forward to learning how to do all the program has to offer.

5 comments about Microsoft FrontPage 2003 [OLD VERSION].
- I purchased this software mainly for Web Design. I am beginning in Web Design and found Microsoft Frontpage 200 easy to learn with a lot
of interesting features to design a web site. I would definitely recommend this product.
- Compared to FP 2000 and earlier versions, it offered some major improvements, even letting one code in (gasp) PHP with live preview - it is highly configurable, and easily tied into SharePoint (well, I think that was the intent).
It was quite an evolution, moving beyond FP2000, with some fairly advanced features - while still retaining the "entry level, small business learnable" functionality (albeit cookie cutter designs) of previous versions.
I was surprised to find it even offered options to strip out all code that hinted this site was made with FrontPage (an odd change, knowing MS), but also offered other code functions, some on par with Dreamweaver - but do not mistake this for Dreamweaver, even the first MX version. It's still aimed at Microsoft only - you really have to dig and tweak to configure it for anything else (e.g, php, cold fusion) - but it does offer some major improvements for flexibility over previous versions. Mostly good, some horribly bad.
The good - being able to tweak it to dozens of standards' compliance, Sec. 508, XML'ish stuff, whatever. By default these things are not set up, so it does take some learning.
What annoyed (and freaked me out) was that while it easily allowed for desktop development with Access, to create database driven sites - the database had to remain in a public folder - ok, I suppose if you're using it only on an intranet.
I believe the point was to code with Access, then mod it slightly to interact with SQL server - but most folks probaby did not use it that way - knowing the history and "fire and forget" ease of use of FrontPage...
Anyhow, I'd call this a para-professional version. It has way more flexibility and functionality than any version of Frontpage, ever. It is also going bye-bye.
There will not be a FrontPage 2007, due to the switch to Expression Web (which retains some FP functionality, but the "friendly" and pesky "bots" are gone). No more email bots, whatever bots - gotta learn how to roll your own.
- I have been using FrontPage since 1997. I am webmaster for three websites and have alway really thought this was a great program! BUT! I have only upgraded to FrontPage 2000 and find that with my XP computer, Win XP does not support FrontPage. Now, if I want to continue with my family Genealogy Site and a community Genealogical Society site, I will need to purchase and learn ANOTHER program. At age 70, I really don't feel like doing that!
Does anyone know if FP 2003 will work on Win XP? OR How can I get my FP 2000 to work on my WIN XP computer?
- Web pages can not be easier to design without this program and book. An excellent resource.
- Software is a big improvement on Frontpage 2000, and is more user friendly than the previous version. Easier to navigate through and create web pages from scratch.

5 comments about Adobe Contribute CS3.
- ===DON'T BUY CONTRIBUTE CS3===
The Contribute CS3 version has a TON of bugs and does not work correctly with Server Side Javascript nor does it work correctly with interactive Flash Menus.
When I contacted Adobe to Swap the licence for the new CS3 for the older 4.0 version, they said 'NO' and that they where AWARE of the bugs but would not offer a solution at this time.
If you try to purchase any older version software, Adobe will NOT sell you older software nor will they support any older versions of Macromedia Software.
DON'T BUY ANY NEW ADOBE VERSION SOFTWARE!
They don't know what the hell there doing over there. At least Macromedia supported ALL of there software and allowed you to purchase older versions of software.
ADOBE SUCKS!
- I have found this to be a great tool for modifying my website and giving me full control over the content. Its very easy to install and use although I'm still learning some more of the finer details. This product works great with an existing website and I would recommend web designers who work with Dreamweaver to tell their clients about it so they can give them full access to the content of the site without altering the design. I am certainly having fun with it! [...].
- I chose to use Contribute because it works more consistently with Dreamweaver CS3 than other free software, and I'm picky about subtle layout issues. However, other than its compatibility with Dreamweaver layouts, Contribute has little to offer over similar software that you can get for free.
Contribute has crashed and caused major operating errors four times in the past thirty days.
I can't get contribute to allow users to preview sites when they are working offline. Contribute likes to connect directly with the server hosting the website, and it gets cranky when you try to design pages offline and then let someone else upload them after review. It controls the workflow too strictly - greatly increasing the learning curve with this product.
My staff has used Contribute to destroy several pages on websites. For reasons that no one can explain or predict, it occasionally rewrites all the links from existing resources to temporary files on the working computer. The result is that the page looks fine while you are working on it, but when you upload it, all the image links and hyperlinks are broken.
When you paste text into Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver applies the appropriate cascading style sheet. Contribute carries over formating from the source document. I've had it a month, and I haven't figured out how to make it work with Cascading style sheets.
I recently paid for it, but wanted to get the box because the software takes like four hours to download (the free software which is more functional, easier to use, and more stable downloaded in a matter of minutes: Nvu). Since I bought it, I thought I should be able to receive the product key to unlock the trial version on my computer. They said they would give that if I paid to re-download it, but they would not give that if I paid for a box. I called customer service and was put on perpetual hold. I e-mailed customer service. Two days later, Ahrie, a technical support engineer, e-mails me back saying I should call customer service and that he hopes that advice helped.
I am disappointed with this product and disappointed with Adobe customer service. Try Nvu first.
- Great product. Ease of use was the most important factor for user satisfaction. As advertised, Contribute makes editing web pages extremely simple. It functions as advertised with no problems editing the target site.
- The company I work for uses this product from time to time on sites. I would not recommend this product to my worst enemy. This product only brings pain and frustration.
If you are looking for this level of maintainability, please hire a real web developer to solve this problem for you. At least then there is a good chance you will get what you want.
I have been working with this product since version 2.0 and now they are up to 4.1. The only thing that has changed in those 3 years is that they added blogging to the application, which none of our clients have used. This application is slow and very buggy. It always has been. It has been over a year and this product has not even been updated.
I have used this product on large sites and small sites. Large as in 500 to 10,000 pages and small 1-25 page sites. If this is all that you can afford, then note that it might get the job done but it will not be a pleasant experience. When you can afford it please have a small web team or someone you know move you to an Open Source CMS (e.g. WordPress, Drupal, TypePad, Joomla!, etc., which are free)
This product had a lot of potential but was never given enough attention from Macromedia/Adobe to make it great.
