5 comments about Corel Painter Essentials 3 Win/Mac [Old Version].
  1. This software is entirely unstable and not worth buying as my experience with it was identical to a previous review and crashes whenever a photo is opened into it. This is what it was intended for, so if it can't handle files it's supposed to function with, of what use would it be?

Fortunately Painter Essentials 3 came bundled free with a Wacom tablet and cost nothing more, but this reflects on them inasmuch as they purchased license to use it as bait to sell their own merchandise without concern for software stability or customer satisfaction. Beyond this, to compensate I purchased Painter IX as OEM to find Corel not in the least helpful or supportive of their software which is not paid an exorbitant amount for. It's a shame because they could make a good product and actually do with Painter IX, but not if the consumer cannot make the software remain open on their system. Perhaps it's a bug with Windows XP, but I'll never know being as Corel refuses to answer...

In retrospect I felt a need to edit this review being as I've discovered the problem I experienced with this program had a good deal to do with file naming conventions which it is apparently fussy about, not that I'd opened files first edited and saved with Adobe Photoshop Elements as previously suspected. Do not use any operand or bracket, only upper and lower case letters or numbers as for me this made a difference. Refuses to open bitmap files, so using correct extensions is of value. Hope this helps others who might have experienced this same issue! Sometimes the solution is simple, others not, but see if it's not the file causing a problem first, not that this should excuse Corel from responsibility in not providing a patch to prevent this.

  2. I've not had the difficulties others have expressed with this program. My first experience was with version 2 which was bundled with my Wacom tablet. After using it for a while I was hooked and upgraded to version 3. With a tablet the program is very intuitive, unlike Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2, and produces wonderful results. I've never liked working with digital media until now.

A tablet is essential to getting the most out of the program.

  3. I tried the download trial version from the Corel website. The direction are SPARSE, to say the least, and SUPPORT during the trial is non-existant, but eventually, I was able to use the product to produce some gorgeous "paintings." I used it in combination with effects from Adobe Photoshop Elements, and sometimes with Microsoft Photodraw. Just BEE-YOU-TEE-FULL! When I get a little extra spending money, I may invest in the full product purchase, but leaning toward going all out for the Painter software. I think instructions would have helped me get started sooner --you can check books out of the library-- but I liked the program and think it's worth working with. Yes, it was glitchy sometime, but not much, and certainly not more than AdobePE 3.0. I did reload the trial version once, but then it worked fine. I can't complain--it was a 30 day Free trial from Corel's website. Try it first--they give you that option with many of their programs. You don't like it--don't buy it. All you've wasted is a little time.

  4. I got version 2 "free" with my Wacom tablet. After reading another review here of version 3 it seems not much has changed.
Almost every time I try to use this on a Mac it crashes. Not an elegant crash, the app just disappears and the OS tells me "the application has unexpectedly quit". Of course my work disappears with it.
Not very impressive. A piece of software with 5 million features that crashes is useless. Period.
If it actually worked, this would probably be a good piece of software.

  5. I've been using Painter Essentials 3 for most of a week, and find it excellent in every way. My four kids are having a ball with it, too. No glitches whatsoever. The [...] tutorial videos that came as part of the package are very effective, too. It takes a little practice and artistry to produce attractive results, but that's exactly as it should be.

I'm using this program on a G5 iMac. Perhaps the folks experiencing the glitches are running that other kind of computer :-(

All in all, a great program at a great price.

5 comments about V Communication Web Easy Professional 6.
  1. This program does not follow the instruction manual. Many times I went,"by the book" only to find out alot of dead ends. You have to spend hours to get even a simple website up. Forget trying to add music background. And tech support? Yeah right, they dont respond to your emails. You cant even call them collect! Would not buy again.

  2. I have NEVER had any experience at all with building a website and I don't know anything about software code, or programming. I bought Web Easy 6 because I wanted to try to build a personal website. At first I assumed I would have to spend days and days reading the software manual and then trying to figure out what the heck it was telling me to do. I installed the software and then, much to my great surprise (and delight), I found that it was EXTREMELY EASY to figure out. Within just a few hours I had built my first complete page! The software is LOADED with a variety of very impressive features. And, yes, it will take me time to read through the material and learn about them. But, I have to tell you, I think "Web Easy 6" is a TERRIFIC PROGRAM for creating a very slick-looking, professional website. I will note that if you buy it and install Web Easy 6, you might as well be prepared to call customer service (not toll free) to get the "Unlock Code" the software requires. The company is supposed to e-mail you this code when you register the product, but for some reason, their automatic reply email system doesn't work. You can use the software without the code, but eventually it's going to "lock-up" on you if you don't have it.

  3. I just started using the program and have had the same problems as another reviewer - no registration code emailed to me and the program crashes at the most inopportune times, such as when I try to save my work. So far, many hours wasted, no website created. Also it does not load pre-existing websites correctly - so if you have created a website elsewhere you are stuck editing it with the original software. So far I am leaning toward returning the program. All the sample sites included cause my internet explorer to pop up the security warning on them. I do not want my customers to think I am trying to spam or spyware them. I just want a plain but informative website for them. I have tried this program, Website Creator, FrontPage, Word, and writing html from scratch. I have to say the best are scratch html and word as far as ease of use. I don't understand why all the software tries to add crazy html language that makes warnings pop up or makes things stop working.
I will update this review as I learn more and if I hear back from the company with my registration code.

  4. I have used this software for almost a year now just because I was too lazy to read the 800 pages manual of Dreamweaver (I know better now). I can't count anymore how many times it frustrated me: starting with the registration. The day I purchased the software I registered online and received an email with my activation code... then another, then another, it just didn't stop until only about two months ago. I must have now about 50 registration codes. I contacted tech support and they reply they had no idea why that was happening, they'd look into it... months later I was still receiving the codes (all different). The software is so buggy at times I just can't stand doing anything with it. Sometimes you can click in a text box and move around/deleted words with standard Windows shortcuts, sometimes you can't, no idea why. The HTML code generated is so junky that there is no possibility for any sort of personalization... I have never seen a code so dirty. Forget about connecting to an ftp server, the function just won't work properly. It takes your image files and renames them giving each one of them an unintelligible name and when you have a website with many photos you have to look at them one by one to now which one is which. If you lose (my computer drive crash 2 months ago) your Easy Web Pro data you cannot import the website that itself generated (I guess its own HTML code is such junk that the software itself doesn't understand it). Now I cannot import my website to the software and using an old Web Easy file I get lots of broken link because it can't tell which photo is which since itself changed the names.
Working with text boxes is so annoying, good luck changing color and fonts at the first shot.
Yesterday I started reading The Dreamweaver Missing Manual, there's so much in it but I already read 80 pages and look forward to start using DW and throw Web Easy away and all its frustration. I can do much more with DW, there's a reason why it's the industry standard. Even if you can't afford it, you should check out an older version, it will still work much better than (Not So) Easy Web Professional (Yeah Right!).

  5. This couldn't be easier to use (after a little trial and error) after reading the tutorials. I was creating my own web pages in less than 2 hours. After a week I was publishing my pages not only for myself but my friends too. The pages I made rivaled the $1500.00 sites that I saw advertised that businesses pay to have someone create!
I wish I had gotten this product when it first came out.
You can't go wrong with this.
I give it 5 out of 5 stars for a premium low-cost Web Designer.

  1. I purchased this thinking it was a great deal for the price, at 25.99 how could you go wrong with 2.5 million items including clipart, sound, pictures etc., right?
When you get the box, it has 3 CDs containing a lite version of their Qpict indexing software and indexes which you must drag onto it in order to view the contents. It also has a card letting you sign up for 1 year subscription to Clipart.com. After dragging all the indexes into the program, I was astonished that it only had around 45,000 showing in the index. I called IMSI and spoke to a relatively condescending individual, who promptly told me that I was correct that there were only that many in the box, and that in order to get the 2.5 Million I must log onto clipart.com with my 1 year subscription. My response was, no where in your advertising of this product do you state that you MUST go online to get access to the full 2.5 million items. Advertising clearly misleads you into believing you are getting the 2.5 million with your purchase in the box. On top of that, no where does it say that you will be REQUIRED to pay to renew to clipart.com once your one year trial is up in order to continue receiving access to the "2.5 million" that they advertise on the box. So given this information, what do you think they are trying to pull?
This is definitely a buyer beware situation.

They are allowing me to return this, but I am out the shipping both ways.
Be very wary dealing with a company such as this with hidden costs and fees not advertised. My time and money have been wasted dealing with IMSI.

  2. I thought I had read all about this program on the Amazon site, but I was certainly surprised when the box contained only three disks and nothing else! There was no manual, no instructions on what to do with the three disks....NOTHING! When I called the IMSI support site (free installation help) it took about fifteen minutes for the tech guy to come to the phone and he fumbled around trying to help me and finally said that he would send me instructions via e-mail., which never arrived. The instructions are only for Windows, no Mac instructions at all. What a ripoff! I am sending this dog back.
