1. The title is a bit misleading because it covers more than just user interface issues. It is clearly written and covers a reasonable amount of ground not found in other books aimed at either more or less experienced Delphi programmers. I like this book and I'm glad I bought it. I can recommend browsing it to see if it can help you too.



2. Lots of good information, examples and GUI theory and all oriented around Delphi 3. Very effective explanations of and reasons for various ways of presenting data and user controls.



3. I guess the most refreshing thing about this book is that it isn't loaded with fluff. It covers a wide range of design topics that are enforced with working examples that you can put to use immediately. The entire book is on the CD in Adobe Acrobat format, making searches a breeze.



4. The book not only covers issues related to user interface design, but most of it discusses many common programming problems and tasks. The UI sections cover different types of controls and how they can be used to help the user. The remainder, about 2/3 of the book, however is a discussion of some very common problems eg. ensuring only one instance of a program, adding things to the taskbar, talking to the registry, internationalisation, error trapping etc. While the solutions and problems are not "rocket science" they are not the sort of things which can be found in the manuals or the help files. It may not be an "essential" book, but it would be one which you could add to your collection and feel that you have not wasted your money.



5. This is a good Delphi book. It doesn't repeat the Delphi documentation. It really adds code that is worth having and talks about issues related to user interface design. However the book needs to address more issues of the user interface design, so this is not a complete book on interface design. But the author did a good job to start the Delphi beginner programmer like me. I really recommend this book if you are a beginner or intermidate Delphi programmer.

1. The two small applications the author leads you in building will get you moderately comfortable with the Delphi environment.

   But the book is more notable for what it leaves out than what it includes. If you're looking for how to work with such common Windows components as list and combo boxes, text boxes, check boxes, scroll bars, etc.; or how to code Pascal (the programming language on which Delphi is based), you won't find it here. Check this book out of the library if you can--but save your money for a more comprehensive one.

1. if you are new to delphi but have experience on programming concepts I really can recommend this one. after reading this book you know the basics and are prepared buying a book specialiced on databases or internet programming or client server programming (whatever you are interested in) because this advanced topics are not really coverd in detail. for a beginner on delphi (NOT on programming) it is a good introduction to delphi .......says Major Tom



2. I loved Mastering Delphi 3, I loved all the sample code and other extras on the CD, My only gripe, I just wish Cantu spent a few more pages on each topic, got my feet wet, but left me at that. Add another couple hundered pages and it would be a five star book



3. I have taken a major part in the translation of this book to Hungarian, and I really liked its friendly and comprehensive language. Of course, the book does not reveal all the in-depth secrets of Delphi, but gives a perfect overall view, and makes you ready for furter exploring (on your own, or with the help of other books).



4. I think that other authors should copy the excellence of this book! It just contains all in one book!! Incredible! Congratulations Marco!



5. Very easy to read. Marco takes you through Delphi from it's roots in Object Pascal. Marco's a very funny guy in person and it comes through in his code. Entertaining and educational. Has beginning material that you won't find in Mastering Delphi 4.
