2 comments about Object-Oriented Design for C++.
- the library of congress lists the book for $24 my college bookstore had it for $38 new 28.85 used.
your over priced
- This book does a good job of covering the topics that the author chooses, but this is by no means an all-encompassing text on object oriented methodology. There are some holes in the subject matter...like operator overloading. If you already understand C++, this book will make you a better programmer, but go elsewhere for an introduction to C++.

2 comments about The C Wizard's Programming Reference.
- By far the most lucid explanation anywhere of the finer points of the C language.
- Although Kernigham and Ritchie's "The C Programming Language" is the original reference for the language, W. David Schwaderer's treatment of the language is significantly more focused for the experienced programmer. His treatment of arrays and pointers is unmatched by any other reference since. I purchased my copy before embarking in a two-year project for Bell Communications Research - the mother lode of experienced C programmers. Time and time again I ran circles around the other designers and coders using this as my primary reference. Alhough, apparently, not updated to reflect the additional complexities of the ANSI standard and C++, buy this book as your first supplement to K&R. You will not be disappointed !

3 comments about Proceedings of the 1999 Congress on Evolutionary Computation: Cec99 : July 6-9, 1999 Mayflower Hotel Washington, D.C. USA.
- I was very disappointed of this large collection of papers. Although there are a few gems, most of the papers are of very marginal quality. There are many papers with little "improvements" that are not well tested (heard of statistical tests?), and many papers are not well written. People should proofread their work carefully to make sure that others will get the message.
Spend your money elsewhere: There are many good conferences in this area (search for the previous proceedings of evolutionary programming (EP) and the international conference on genetic algorithms).
- This 3-volume set of proceedings from the first Congress on Evolutionary Computation is a superb contribution and a must for anyone interested in evolutionary computation. Particularly nice was the focus on topics rather than techniques! The quality of papers was above average and many papers point to new research directions. Good stuff.
- 3 years after this conference, I'm still using it for reference. I especially like the particle swarm papers, and the evolutionary computation theory papers (many of them). This 3-vol. set is very good.
