- I read through this book very quickly, because I know most of the stuffs. There are couple good examples in this book, which will work. Few samples on the CD do not work.
If you don't have a clue what programming is, DO NOT buy this book.

5 comments about Sams Teach Yourself Visual Basic 6 Online in Web Time (Sams Teach Yourself Online in Web Time).
- Course designed to get new programmers up to speed quickly. It contains everything needed to become an intermediate level VB programmer. It assumes no previous programming knowledge. However, if you already program in another language, you will find this book an easy and enjoyable way to get up to speed on Visual Basic. It is based on the popular Visual Basic 6 Interactive Course, this book is connected to an instructional Website. The online site offers test and programming exercise material not found in the book, access to a threaded discussion list moderated by a subject matter expert, plus a searchable online reference title for each course. Over all you will progresses logically through introductory material and beginning concepts all the way to advanced and complex professional programming techniques. A good book for beginners.
- I must disagree with the reviewer from Bangkok, Thailand. Over 2/3 rd's of his review is verbatim off of the web site for Sams and their description of the book suggesting a cut and paste, paid review. It is nothing more than a rehash of the Visual Basic 6 Interactive Course from Waite Press, which was bought up by Sams. In the first 300 pages of the book I found 203 errors!!! I am not joking. The biggest was the annoying problem of seeing variables named one way in the examples only to be named differently in the accompanying text. When I contacted the authors about it only one responded by email. I sent examples of what was wrong and strongly suggested a very serious review and editing of the book. I never heard from him again. Until this is done this book should be relegated to the trash heap, as it will frustrate beginners to the point of not using nor learning Visual Basic. That is the worst thing about this book. Please save your sanity and hard earned money.
- I've never programmed before, this book has taught me everything I needed to know and have made a few rather large programs now.
The examples are good (there is heaps of work to do!) and logical. The book is big! - The online stuff I haven't worried about really.. It's just tests online - I dont know if you get a certificate or something at the end, but if you did it would be cool. If you know nothing about VB6, this book is for you!
- It looks very informative, however it has a lot of errors. Most of the examples do not work. The book has a CD providing an online registration and discussion form. I completed the registration, but there is nothing on the website.
- Every book has his own target reader. It is impossible to have a universal 5-star book for every-level reader.
I had been looking for a book which can let me learn VB seriously as the starter for a while. Further, I already bought 2 books about VB and, but felt not good. However, this book is the book I was really looking for. Here is the features I feel good. 1. Very concise--The lines are the stuff I want to read and I can understand, no showing up, no joking, no academic garbage. 2. Very good balance between the explaining and code demonstration. This will make reading very effecient and effective. 3. With good exercise which is simple and not tricky and make you feel that you did learn something and you can do something. I must say again, this maybe the garbage book for experienced VB developer, but it is the excellent to me!!

5 comments about Using Visual Basic 6 (Using).
- If you are use to the "USING" series by QUE, you will find this issue a bit disappointing. This book while great for those new to VB, will be lacking the usual technical depth that made the other QUE books great references.
- This book is tailored for ordinary users of VB only, not developers of VB. This book does not provide the necessary details of programming, and other advanced features. If you need to work on VB, probably this book is not for you. For novice users, this book can give you a smell of what VB is. The examples used in this book is rather small scaled.
- I used this book as a beginner to VB6 with high hopes of getting a firm grasp on the language. However, I was a little disappointed. There is not a whole lot of sample code to look at. The information on ActiveX was skimpy as well. Some of the Microsoft Common Controls (MSFlexGrid for example) were not explained or illustrated adequately. This book will take your programming skills farther, but not as far as I thought it would.
- Most probably because it written by a number of people, the book lacks consistency. The first part is quite good and there is a no-nonsense approach. Important things are taught, and without much fuss.
However, the downfall starts from the "Advanced" section of the book. The chapter on API is takes just a cursory glance at VB and API, to say the least. This trend starts here and continues where OOP in VB is introduced. I have no clue why these important chapters were given so little space. The problem with this book is, it tries to cover too much, with too little detail. In the end, you are left with a very much incomplete book. Example: Important concepts like early binding and late binding were nowhere discussed, at least not with the names. I think Wrox's "Beginning VB 6" may be a better choice, but the problem with Wrox "Beginner" series is that, they just talk on and on and on till you are completely insane.
- I went to the url listed in the book to download the calendar needed in the first chapter and the web site mcp.com doesnt even have the book mentioned??? even a search returned no results.
How are you supposed to "work along with the book" if you can't even get the source material??
I went to QUE's website and still no mention of this book, i know it exists because i have a debit in my checking accout to prove it.
Disgusted...If i could give NO stars i would
