1 comments about Software Development for Engineers, C/C++, Pascal, Assembly, Visual Basic, HTML, Java Script, Java DOS, Windows NT, UNIX.
- The book is already outdated. The inclusion of Pascal was questionable, even in 1997. Outside some universities, Pascal has suffered a continual erosion of mindshare.
As for the choice of JavaScript as a scripting language, that still holds true today as a good choice. It is the dominant client-side scripting language for browsers, VBScript and JScript competitors notwithstanding.
The unix discussion could easily be modified to include linux. Minor changes here.
As for Microsoft DOS, it is a toss up whether this might still be discussed. Perhaps it might be replaced by an explanation of .NET?

3 comments about Mechanical Desktop 4: Applying Designer and Assembly Modules.
- I was looking for along time for a book of this kind, but lalely i found this book in my friends library. i never thought that there will be a good book that will be able to describe so well the procedures and the steps for learning and understanding the logical order of Mechanical Desktop 4. in the book i found explenations and step by step notes about usage of Mechanical Desktop 4. this book has verry helpful index and is verry good as a hand book. thanks alot to Daniel T. Banach for opening a whole world infront of me.
- The contents of this book are almost the same as the previous version (2.0). The 4.0 release of the M.D. software have had lots of improvements and new tools that aren't reflected in the new version of the book.
The 4.0 release book has less information than the previous (2.0). One example is that NURBS Surfaces subject is not included in this new version (in the 2.0 it was). The exercises are the same, with the same sketches! So, whatever you are a new or advanced M.D. user you might consider buying the 2.0 book version with the 3.0 update, it's less expensive and will be more helpful.
- Very disappointed with this book. The examples are few and the explanations stopped short. Not very helpful to new users.

1 comments about C With Assembly Language.
- I had picked up Mr. Holzner's "Assembly Language for Pascal Programmers" a year ago and found that his method of presenting and explaining working examples to be easy to follow and insightful. But he used a lot of comparison to Pascal code which I knew little about, being someone who only knew the basics of C/C++.
So I got this book and am delighted in actually learning C beyond the basics of variables, pointers, flow control, structures, etc. (which he covers quickly in chapter 1). My only complaint is that chapters 7 and 8 are pretty much a rehash of the same material in the Pascal book mentioned above, but it's still a great introduction to 80x86 assembly. There are three main topics covered in the book: The C library, advanced C techniques and assembly (with inline assembly and linking assembly funtions with C object files). The chapters are Ch. 1 - C From Ordinary to Extraordinary Ch. 2 - File Handling Ch. 3 - Graphics Ch. 4 - Databasing Ch. 5 - C and Memory Ch. 6 - Debugging C Ch. 7 - Welcome to Assembly Language Ch. 8 - An Assembly Primer Ch. 9 - Interfacing Assembly Language to C Ch. 10 - Assembly Language Expertise

1 comments about Microcomputer Engineering (2nd Edition).
- This book contains lots of examples and source code so students/readers can get a firm grasp on the programming constructs of the HC11 language. Yet,it lacks in it's examples with interfacing. There are no examples that would show one how to actually wire completly an external device to the EVBU board.

2 comments about PC Architecture from Assembly Language to C.
- This book has numerous errors and is poorly organized. The software that comes supplied with the book does not work on many computers and the publisher is unresponsive when the problems have been brought to their attention. This book was definitely rushed to press. It is quite a shame that this book with such a high price tag was ever published.
- Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or your money. To answer the question "Why is this book so expensive?" I will tell you from first hand knowledge that this book is being used at a certain educational institution where the author resides and teaches. This is how someone can be somewhat successful at selling 282 pages of errors bound in a cover for $110. If your lucky enough to have the answer key to the questions at the end of each chapter your in for another disappoinment. Over 90% of the answers are wrong especially any of the questions dealing with code. After fixing the problems with the wrong answers I soon learned that the professor was marking my right answers wrong because he/she was going straight from the answer key. This is just a quick word of advice to anyone who even thinks about using this book as an educational text.
