3 comments about Novell's Guide to Integrating Intranetware and Nt.
- This book is an excellent resource for any administrator who is involved in a mixed Netware and NT environment. The book covers Novell and 3rd party products and clearly explains the Pros and Cons of them. The CD included with the book is great resource. Add this one to your book shelf and keep it close.
- This is a very well written book, practical and comprehensive. Covers the subject accuratly. It is the the technical book I have used the most this year. A must for every Novell admins.
- Do not buy this book if you plan on thaking Novell's Integrating Intranetware and NT test. Half of the book is not even in the test. There should have been more NT material. If you are not familiar with NT this book will not prepare you for the test. I just failed the test and I used this book as my study guide.

2 comments about Hands-On Novell Netware 5.0 with Projects.
- I am a student in the Dallas area. We recently used this book along with another book written by the same author. I can't begin to tell you how far this book has set me and my classmates back. Mistakes were written through out both books. This book was poorly written and I can't believe the publishers released this book. The questions at the end of each chapter really didn't have direct answers. Our teacher had to go back and rewrite all the projects. I am scheduled to take my CNA test at the end of Janurary. I feel this book didn't nothing but confuse my classmates and I. THUMBS DOWN TO A POORLY WRITTEN BOOK.
PS This author wrote a excellent Novell 4.11 book and I can't understand what happened when he wrote this one. I hope this book did not cost me the ability to pass my CNA.
- From an instructor's perspective, this is a great book. I've used this book for a year now with different classes. If the classroom file-server and lab are set up properly, it works very well. If you're looking for a quick and dirty exam prep book, this is NOT the book for you! If you really want to learn NetWare 5 administration in an instructor-led hands-on environment - get this book!
The book has each student set up and administer a small company. It covers the design and implementation of the directory tree, users and groups, file structure, security, printing, and a host of other areas. The author includes several hands-on activities as well as projects. Each chapter builds on the previous chapter, so you can't skip around. He leads the student step-by-step through the projects and then slowly "weans" them from the "hand-holding". The projects require the instructor to set up a classroom file-server. Although the book could be used in a self-paced fashion, I've found it to be much more effective to lecture on the subject at hand then turn the students loose to do the projects. Several students with no previous NetWare experience have been able to pass the CNA test as a result of using this book. I've asked my students on many occasions how they like the book and always get a positive response. I read the _ONE_ very negative review of this book and was very perplexed. Either I've totally missed the boat or the other reviewer was talking about a different book! He said the book caused confusion - without proper instruction and preparation, NetWare IS confusing, but this book is NOT confusing. Perhaps the instructor hadn't bought into or didn't understand the methodology of the author. The weakest area in the book is the review questions. All the answers are within the text, but the questions are sometimes vague and open to different interpretations. But overall, I like the book... it has made my job alot easier!
