  1. This could have been a great show if the sound wasn't so bad. Sounds like it was recorded on someones dictaphone. After selling my soul to the devil and investing in state of the art AV gear, I was looking forward to this, only to be sadly disappointed. Compare this to the audio on the last two Eagles DVD's, or Eric Clapton's One more car, One more rider, and you will see what I mean.

  2. For the ZZ Top fan, another " Must Have " live concert. This is a concert filmed by pros and not someone in the crowd with a cheesy camcorder. As for the boys themself, their still do what they do so well which is good old fashion blues based groove rock and roll. They look good and sound great as they are all aproaching 60 years old. Like the Rolling Stone, and Aerosmith.... they " Still got it "
Alot of bonus features come with this dvd as well including a poker game/rap session with just the three of them. Well worth the low price.

  3. This new dvd from ZZTOP is a slam dunk for all ZZTOP fans. It is what a lot of fans have been waiting for. All rock, blues and country rock fans will love it.

  4. This is a great dvd. We have been waiting for a live dvd from ZZ TOP for a long time. This will do... Great sound and song selection. Although each will probably have few that they miss. Me, I wish they could have added Beer Drinkers, Tbird, and I Thank You on there. But to have Blue Jean Blues and Heard in on the X included in this makes it a must have! Plus, you get an amazing version of Foxey Lady! I have been a fan since the mid seventies, and always go see the boys when they come thru AZ. I saw this tour at the Dodge Theatre and was blown away by the performance. So to see this dvd that serves as a tour reminder is fantastic. The poker game is fun and gives some insight into the somewhat elusive ZZ Top. Hopefully this will open up the flood gates for ZZ Top and we will see more live stuff. Have Mercy!!!

  5. Great DVD and long overdue, and well priced to boot! Agree with other reviews sound and video quality are top notch, but staging is a bit low key relative to the 3 ZZ shows I have been at live. The beginning pace appears a bit slow but when you watch the DVD a couple times you realize the brilliance in those first few songs. Lip synching on Legs is pretty obvious, and possibly (parts of) Sharp Dressed Man, but overall Billy's vocals are amazing and textured almost as much as his guitar work. Speaking of guitar work, it is simply awesome. Only disappointments are lip synch bits, missing favorite Sleeping Bag (what happened to that one??) and the video editing borders on attention-deficit-disorder (every camera edit could be 2 times longer and nobody will be getting bored). Overall a fabulous DVD and a must buy for ZZ crowd.

  1. If there is a single Classic Rock disc to own, this would be it. When you consider this music provided the soundtrack to the Vietnam War, you might consider buying it to be owning a bit of history. Go back up above and read down those song titles. Do you have any fond memories associated with any of them? My problem, at age 56, is that I have a fond memory associated with EVERY ONE OF THEM.

Now CCR plays music that's pretty accessible to everyone that hears it, but when you go below that layer, the things that make the songs stand up for all these years is dynamic songwriting and kickass musicianship across the board.

If you don't believe me, pick up the concert DVD by John Fogerty: The Long Road Home and SEE these hits performed. I believe it's impossible to be unaffected by what you see and hear there. He still performs his music with that 'fire in the belly' you like to see in older musicians.

So back to this disc... he originally recorded these in his 20's. Imagine the 'fire in the belly' factor then...

This one is good stuff. You need to own it.

  2. This replaces my husbands 8 Track Tape! For the CCR fan, a must-have.

  3. This CD is Creedance Clearwater Revival's original recording, and is one of the few with the full, long version of my favorite piece, Suzy Q. The CD was in excellent condition and came in a very short time. I recommend this seller for future purchases.

  4. I saw Creedence Clearwater Revisited last year. That band takes a lot of heat for having a capable Fogerty sound-alike stand in for Fogerty. I understand some fans' complaints about the heart and soul of the music being compromised, but my argument was, and still is, that these songs are timeless gems and are worth hearing no matter who's singing them.

So, on to my review ... this is a very admirable greatest hits CD of one of the best bands of the late sixties. All of my favorite Creedence songs are here, including "Bad Moon Rising," "Lodi," "Run Through The Jungle" and "Travelin' Band." To me Creedence Clearwater Revival is the perfect example of how to be a rock band. Fogerty, the band's principal songwriter, can be serious when he needs to be but also knows how to have fun. For example, at the time of the Vietnam War, he wrote songs with such depth and emotion as "Who'll Stop The Rain" and "Fortunate Son." On the other hand, he wrote songs like "Travelin' Band" and "Down on the Corner" -- harmless and fun classics. I also like that this CD includes "Someday Never Comes." That song is very underrated, if you ask me.

This CD has gotten some complaints that "Born on the Bayou" is missing. It is on Chronicle Volume 2 but some fans don't want to pay all that extra money for one song. I have a suggestion on how to remedy that: buy this CD, then download "Born on the Bayou" from iTunes as a single.

  5. Awesome collection of hit songs from the 70's....brings back many memories of good times back then. A must for any person over 50!

  1. Montgomery Gentry are one of the few duals out there that still sing "true" Country Music. Their music tells a story. Sometimes it makes you laugh, sometimes it makes you stop and look at your own life situations, but it all gives you a great feeling when you listen to it. This is absolutely one of my favorite CDs in my huge collection of country music! A must have!!!

  2. this is the best of montgomery gentry that i've heard so far. they have a very unique sound that is very inspiring

  3. I really enjoy the purchase I made. Thank you again for servicing me. Lyle J. Christenson.

  4. The award-winning duo's sixth studio album finds them in familiar territory. As both Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry dub their new Sony disc, this is the "quintessential Montgomery Gentry album". Such a statement raises the watermark as the two have scored more than their fair share of hits; notably the inspirational, "Some People Change" and the blue-collar anthem, "Something to be Proud Of".

Both vocalists have a chance to shine, often at the same time as the baritone Montgomery and tenor Gentry trade lines gamely.

The set features fewer ballads than previous offerings, leaning towards their signature rocked up honky tonk sound, not dissimilar to fellow super-duo Brook and Dunn and owing a debt to the Southern Rock stylings of Lynard Skynard and Hank Williams Jnr.

Slower numbers are duly represented, and as quite often with country music, they have substance in abundance. The relaxed, mid-tempo "Roll With Me", about a man deciding to live for today and not worry about tomorrow, strikes a philosophical note, as does the introspective closing ballad, "God Knows Who I Am", wherein the narrator stops stressing over what other people think of his actions and intentions, for God is the only one who matters anyway.

This is, however, a party album - and a top-flight one at that. The laid-back groove of "Now You're Talkin'" builds up to a shout-along chorus, harking back to their 2003 Top-Five hit "Hell Yeah".

The raucous party atmosphere continues with the inevitable concert favourite "One In Every Crowd" - complete with references to "Harleys" and "Good-time Charlies" - and the fun-lovingly strident, "I Pick My Parties", with superstar Toby Keith sharing the mic, an obvious choice of guest as the duo's style has long echoed Toby's high-energy sound. In it, the three choose their parties carefully, as they weren't as young as they to be.

As an album, it exceeded expectations, undoubtedly the best in their nine year recording-career and making a hugely entertaining listen, not only emblematic of they do best, but also easily accessible to rock fans and country-lovers alike.

  5. Being from Kentucky I may be a little partial to Troy and Eddie but I gotta say this albums ROCKS. I have all their recordings and I would have a hard time saying this CE is better than another CD. I think they are all 5 stars! Keep the good music flowing!

  1. The music is fine. The same can't be said for the CD. It played fine at first but within 2 weeks it started to lose cuts and be less and less reliable. The same player plays other CD's with no problems. This one is heading for the recycling bin.

    Don't waste your money.

  2. As with any album's title that includes greatest, you will find some songs that should be on there that aren't. Two of my all time favorites, off the (live) one more from the road album, Working For the MCA and The Needle and the Spoon are absent. You could also throw in Poison Whiskey, Searchin and Double Trouble, but that's my taste, still a great album. If someone was looking for one album to kick start Skynyrd with, this would be a good choice, but again, I'd go with one more from the road which in my opinion captures the incredible musical genius that was Ronnie Van Zant.

  3. Great CD and the wife loved it. Has all her favorites in one CD.

  4. The Lynyrd Skynyrd cd I got from Amazon is great! It has all the songs on it that I have been looking for. I got it in brand new condition, and I am completely satisfied!!!!

  5. I love this CD! It gives me happy feet, what can I say. I play it often as I never tire of hearing Skynyrd classic hits.

  1. Great album by a great band, with lots of the big hits as well as some not so well known ones. If you're into ZZ Top, it's a must have.

  2. Come on. No 'Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers'? No 'Jesus Just Left Chicago'. This album lacks most of the classic ZZ Top blues and Texas bogey songs that made them famous. It's a mostly a collection of radio singles.

  3. This item arrived qickly and in good condition. ZZ Top has been around for a long time and they sound great on this CD.

  4. This is a darn good collection with a whole lot of great songs , A++++++++++++ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

  5. I almost never see a band from after the eighties or sixties where there is not at least one song that's a filler worth skipping over. ZZ Top has a hit on every spot to listen to over again. My least favorites are Gun Love and Pretty Little Women, but no one should ever skip Rough Boy and Legs. Everbody's favorite is probably Viva Las Vegas, but it was from Elvis first. The absence of re-recorded or different versions of songs so present on most albums is so refreshing. I never get tired of this music. Like maple syrup on pancakes, almost nobody can turn it down.

  1. I love Black Crowes and was waiting with great anticipation for This album. I try to love it....but I can't.

It's boring. I've got all their CD's. I just don't care for......and Warpaint is falling into that category.

I keep trying to like it, but I can't fool myself. I read some of these other reviews and make me wonder.

Ordinary album. All songs weak and bad. I am not remembering one song in album.Must be work for good works.

  2. I love the first two Black Crowes albums. I downloaded another one of theirs that was made around 2000, and it was total garbage. This album ranks in between the two extremes, albeit a lot closer to the first two albums. I was excited to read that Luther Dickinson was hired to replace Marc Ford, as I have always been a huge North Mississippi Allstars fan. However, the material doesn't quite live up to my expectations. A bit boring. Some songs are pretty good, but....now if Luther had played on the first two albums, they would be INCREDIBLY SMOKIN'!!!!

  3. This is the first Black Crowes cd released in a while, 7 years to be exact. With this release, the band has another new lineup. The driving force behind the Black Crowes, the Robinson brothers are still here. I find this release more laid back than some of the previous releases. Generally, the songs are all good, although there really are no songs that I feel knock your socks off. There will be no songs that change the landscape of the music scene, just good rock and roll. I wish I could rate it higher. My 4 stars is more like 3 1/2 stars, but admittedly it changes everytime I listen. It fluctuates from 3 1/2 to 4 stars every time I listen. If you are a fan, buy with confidence. If you are a casual listener, of course check out the snippets included here on the Amazon site before you buy.

  4. I was excited to hear about a new Black Crowes album, to say the least. I expected an album much more inclined towards rock and roll, something towards the edgier side of the Black Crowes. Upon the first listen (I give every new album three listens before I say something definitive...), I wasn't so excited. Very Southern, very folky. Not what I expected, nor what I wanted.

After the second and third listens, I started to hear a lot more in it. "Goodbye Daughter of the Revolution," "Josephine," and "Wounded Bird" started to stand out. Then...

Let's just say that in the past two days, I've listened to the album in its entirety three more times. I LOVE THIS ALBUM! It ended up being one of those sets of songs that took a while to grow on me, and I can't wait to start putting some of these tracks in my playlists. If you've got any sort of tolerance for the growth of rock and roll, buy this album. These guys still know how to stick it to the man.

  5. There have been quite a few good albums that have been released in 2008, which raises the hopes of many that good music is coming back. One of the highlights is the highly anticipated Warpaint by The Black Crowes. Their best album since Amorica, the Crowes go back to their roots and even though the brothers Robinson don't get along socially, they have always had a spark musically, and it's never been more apparent than on this album. Songs like Movin on Down the Line, Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution, Whoa Mule, and a cover of Reverend Charlie Jackson's God's Got it, are highlights and shows a whole other spectrum of unexplored ideas the band previously had not endevored. Warpaint has everything a good Crowes record should be. It's not contrived, they still have their authentic classic rock/blues sound they have perfected over the years, and it's an album that grows on you through multiple listens. You notice something different each time. Overall, this is a flawless record in the sense that there are no bad songs on it, and it brings back redemption to a band who, for many, lost their way. Well, they've found it.

  1. Great memories! A classical CD to go with my vinyl! Great delivery service also.

  2. I can't stop playing it. The memory of my teens years come back to me. That was a happy time and Otis was certainly a part of it. My friends and I danced and cried this this wonderful music.

  3. When you're in the mood for some soulful music, put this on and you'll be feeling it too. There's nothing else to say that hasn't already been said here except to add, if you own this and "The Dock of the Bay" recording, you own most and the best of Otis Redding.

  4. A very good CD, showing his great talent. Always wanted something by him & finally got it!

  5. There can be no doubt who the greatest singer of all time is: Otis Redding. While this compilation omits a lot of Otis' amazing songs (too many to put on a single CD) it serves as a fine introduction to the world's finest singer. Here is a man who sings with more soul than James Brown over music that is more earthy and organic than anything considered "urban" or "country" today.

He's side-by-side with Sam Cooke as one of the two most phenomenal voices ever to grace vinyl.

Otis is one of a kind. Listening to his 'sweet soul music' will elevate your life.

  1. A good collection of Allman Brothers music on one cd. I have most of the songs on several other cd's but liked having them all on one. Recommend to Allman Brothers music fans.

  2. Don't mean to be picky, but I'm a big fan of Billy Joe Shaver and just wanted to let Steve know that B.J. wrote "Rambling Man", but Betts did do a great job. A little side note, a friend of mine was a nurse in a drug-treatment facility in Atlanta where Gregg and Dicky were treated. She said Betts was a great guy and Allman was a real jerk.

  3. Fantastic music, fantastic band, fantastic service from amazon, great to be able to get the music you want. Tony

  4. This is older music that still rocks into 2007. I bought this for my husband as a birthday present and got a very pleased husband for my trouble. Check out Gov't Mule if you like Allman Brothers.

  5. I love this CD. I wish there were more hits on it, but hey. I like The Allman Brothers Band loads better than Greg Allman on his own. It took me awhile to finally find the song/s I like, done the way I remember them. Glad I finally found this one.
