  1. another smart record from bedouin soundclash. they consistently write very catchy punk/ska/reggae influenced rock songs. they keep it simple and do it well. thank you canada.

  2. My god....This album is great. It makes my ears blush. Hard to explain what type of music this is.....I guess Canadian Reggae would fit it. Lovey, Love, Love.

  3. I listen to stuff like this or a regular basis. I enjoy a variety of music, out side the box to which my peers grab their tunes from.

  4. This album will appeal to a much larger audience than the previous albums have and the current singles will attract many more 14 year old girl fans. After an album as brilliant as "Sounding a Mosaic" its hard to know what to do; stick with that albums sound or go in a new direction? Bedouin incorporated some gospel feel to this album that personally, I just cant dig. It seems "Street Gospels" was made with more money is less time, the song writing hints this with some pretty bland material. With that said, I love Bedouin and I've been to at least five live shows since first seeing them at Bottom of The Hill(SF)...(and that was easily their best show). This isn't a bad album. In my opinion it just isn't as good as the previous albums.
But I'll say this, BEDOUIN BRING BACK THE DUB!

  5. I bought the first cd probbly mostly because of lyrical quality and still listen to it this day. However, it really wasn't one I could share with freinds without an apathetic result. In this cd they have truly come into thier own musically and I've spread them much further with better results.

  1. Jesus this is a great album. I am not the kind of person you would expect to listen to a reggae album, im a hardcore punk fan with fast guitar and screaming lyrics. But i challenge anyone alive to listen to this album and not start nodding their head and tapping their foot. "Countryman Fiddle" is already on my most played list after only a week. And you know its a good band because Hellcat signed them!

  2. (No history lesson here. No endless debate of ska labels...)

THIS IS A PHENOMENAL ALBUM! Soul and sway unmatched since The Slackers, and power and fire unmatched since The Redskins; at first listen, you would think Toots & The Maytals have gotten their groove back! Songs that can make you sway, songs that can make you dance, songs that can make you rock steady... AND SONGS SO POWERFUL AND CONSUMING, YOU WANT TO SING ALONG AS LOUD AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN AS THEY DAMN NEAR CONSUME YOU! Recommended tracks: THE WHOLE ALBUM! But, primarily,
    *Time To Get Tough
    *Countryman Fiddle
    *Someday
    *Love Isn't Love
    *LIGHTNING AND THUNDER!!!!!

  3. this is a killer killer killer album..i can't use the word killer enough bout this album...it's about time a band did some classic skinhead reggae....even you don't consider yourself a "reggae" fan...fans of early 60's soul and r&b should definatelly check this out...afterall it's soul and r&b that influenced all early reggae...this album will be a classic!

  4. This is a great CD from a great band. These guys get it ... their focus is making great music and they don't care about whether they are following the corporate/commercial success formula.

My only concern is that the Orange County alt music scene tends to be very racist. It's not uncommon to see people here who say they love The Clash, and then talk about how they hate (insert n-word).

These guys don't subscribe to any of that nonsense, but don't be surprised to see idiots who do at OC shows.

  5. I am 55, white, and middle-class. I hardly know what Ska is, let alone "skinhead reggae." And when I first picked up this disk, I thought, "What do these WHITE BOYS think they're pretending to be?" But this stuff *EXPLODES* with pure energy. Brothers and sisters, if you can listen to this music and not move your body, you need to call 911, because you ain't breathin', Jackson!"

  1. I really thought that "Original Recording Re-Issued" meant it would have these tracks put back on. I got the disc years ago without even realizing the hack. I guess I'm still stuck with my mp3's from vinyl.

  2. I.R.S. CD 70606 [UPC: 0 4479-70606-2 5]
    01. MIRROR IN THE BATHROOM
    02. HANDS OFF . . . SHE'S MINE
    03. TWO SWORDS
    04. TWIST & CRAWL
    05. TEARS OF A CLOWN [Cosby/Robinson/Wonder]
    06. ROUGH RIDER [Prince Buster, Arr. and adapted by The English Beat]
    07. CLICK CLICK
    08. RANKING FULL STOP
    09. BIG SHOT
    10. WHINE & GRINE / STAND DOWN MARGARET
    11. NOISE IN THIS WORLD
    12. CAN'T GET USED TO LOSING YOU [D. Pomus/M. Shuman]
    13. BEST FRIEND
    14. JACKPOT [Asgard/Crooks/Robinson/English Beat]
The Beat are: Saxa, Andy Cox, David Steele, Everett Moreton.

This is the original U.S. release, which inserted "Tears of a Clown" and "Ranking Full Stop" (both singles in the U.K. but unreleased in the States) to the original U.K. version.
This CD is out-of-print now and has been replaced by a reissue of the original U.K. form of the album with only twelve tracks. The two songs left off the reissue are available on BEAT THIS: THE BEST OF THE ENGLISH BEAT.
If, like me, this is the version you wore out on vinyl in the early '80's, I think you'll miss "Tears of a Clown" and "Ranking Full Stop" if you buy the reissue.
If you order this version, be sure you get 14 tracks; you'll probably have to pay more, but it's worth it.

  3. This, along with The Specials (The Specials) is one of the two of the defining masterpieces of the 2nd Wave of ska. However, unlike the Specials, they give credit where credit is due -- crediting Prince Buster with "Rough Rider," whereas the Specials did *not* credit Toots & the Maytals with "Monkey Man," basically ripped off "Al Capone" by Prince Buster, threw some nonsense lyrics together, and voila "Gangsters". They kept the "Don't Call me Scarface," and in lieu of "Al Capone's Guns don't argue" at the beginning, "Bernie Rhodes (their manager) knows don't argue"...
Ok, enough of that. Both are masterpieces in their own right, but "I Just Can't Stop It" takes the cake, IMHO. And I've been listening to ska for quite a few decades now...and just came from seeing the Beat (as they're known in England; unfortunately an American band named the Beat had them precursor their name with thier country of origin...) for the 2nd time in 6 months. They played over 2.5 hours straight through, and are at the top of the list of energetic bands I've ever seen. And live, they are much different than they are on record -- both are brilliant, in their own special way. My favorite song off the CD, "Twist & Crawl," which is more new wave/mod meets ska, became an insane dub-fueled monster live.
If you are a fan of music, especially one of the 3rd wave of ska (e.g. Sublime, No Doubt, to name the most famous...and who blended punk rock with ska) and want to know some of the origins of the music, even though Sublime covers Toot's "54-46 Was My Number" and never covers any of the 2nd generation (even looking through my prodigious Sublime bootleg collection), this album is for you. And for those wondering what ska is, this is for you...it is a masterpiece. It's better than any ska anthology you'll find IMHO.

  4. The Beat took up their task with relish and purpose, producing one of the most definitive ska albums of the 80's. Today, I Just Can't Stop It remains a timeless work a quarter century later...

Quibbles about the British edition aside (only the early American version of the cd has Tears of a Clown and Ranking Full Stop), this record is as socially conscious as it is fun. Ranking and Wakeling were not overly opinionated lads, but they made their points eloquently and with arresting honesty. It is quite often the case, however, that you find yourself singing along to a beautiful harmony, only realizing later on what the lyrics actually say. I only noticed the political overtones of 'Stand Down Margaret' after grooving to it for some two or three years. :)

It's a shame that a group of this caliber splintered after only three albums, but I suppose we should count ourselves lucky to have heard them at all.

  5. First released in 1980, The English Beat's (known in the UK simply as The Beat they added the name English to their moniker to avoid confusion with a California based also band called The Beat) "I Just Can't Stop" it is not only possibly the single greatest album of the later 70's/early 80's ska revival, it is one of the greatest album of the late 70's/early 80's punk/new wave scene.

Already full of nonstop, infectious boppin' tunes the band's US label added two songs to the original album -- "Rankin' Full Stop," and a cover of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' "Tears of a Clown" that had been stand alone singles in the UK. By omitting those songs from this CD reissue the album has been restored to its original running order and, as a previous reviewer noted, becomes the album the way the band intended for it to be heard.

But all of that is really pretty moot because this is still a great, great record with songs like "Best Friend," "Mirror in the Bathroom, "Hands Off She's Mine," and "Wine and Grind/Stand Down Margaret" (ah, the days of the anti-Thatcher/Reagan anthems) that compel you to hit the repeat button on your CD remote over and over.

Ignore the reviewers who don't know the history of this album and get this -- the complete and original version of one of the all time great albums.

  1. Zoot Suit Riot: The Swingin' Hits of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies
They set the bench mark back in the day when this came out, this is a great CD, and if you love swing, buy it.
Their new stuff that they are doing on their tours this spring [2008] just don't cut it, it aint swing baby, its SKA...YUCK!
    Hope this review helps others...

  2. I didn't pay attention to the reviews, sigh. I tossed the cd. The music may be good, but the concept is creepy. I glad for my naivete, this isn't the sophistication that I want to embrace.

  3. Swing was well before my time, but damnit if it wasn't good music. I am glad a modern band came along to play some swing without treating it like some sappy background music for a church party.

"Zoot Suit Riot" includes some fast-paced swinging (!) tunes about fights with sailors, bady guys, getting drunk, and of course some good old-fashioned questionable romantic pursuits.

The lead singer doesn't have the best voice of the decade, or even the year, but he is good enough and he sings like he has something to say. The music backs this up, and the result is an album with the energy we should expect from a dance genre.

If anyone is bothered by songs about fightin' and philanderin' and dirty dancin', maybe they should pass on this and go listen to one of those nice wholesome 16th-century operas about rape and murder.

  4. I love swing revival music, but my exposure to various groups has been limited. I bought this as a "buy it together" with another CD, listened to four songs, and turned it off. I won't listen to it again. The themes of the songs are sex-charged and the language vulgar. I guess I should have known by the title, "Cherry Poppin' Daddies," but I was thinking more along the lines "poppin' = jivin'" rather than it having a sexual connotation. Shows how out of the loop I am, I guess. Some people would probably love this CD, but as a Christian, I'm offended by the themes and the language. There was a low-class knock on God, too, and that was the end of the CD for me.

  5. I postively love this cd. It so entertaining to listen to and if you are into swing dancing this is the music for you. The quality is like having Cherry Poppin Daddies right there with you performing it, it's that good. Zoot Suit Riot is a very up beat and fun cd for everyone to enjoy .

  1. It Means Everything by ska/punk band Save Ferris was their debut but unfortantely the magic didn't last for long. The band broke-up in 2002, ska was good music but you knew this kind of genre would not last long. Monique Powell sure had the lungs on such tracks like The World is New, Spam, Goodbye My Friend, Lies, and Come on Eileen. This album fades with time, too bad this band wasn't more successful.

  2. Save Ferris along with Reel Big Fish are a couple major benefactors in Ska second (but limited) revival. For the most part the songs are uptempo, the horn's great, but what really makes this album is Monique's great singing ability. Look beyond 'Come on Eileen' there are many great tunes here like the 'Spam' a modern day ska classic. Also, check out the video included on the cd with a great little cut from one of their live shows. I highly recommned this album. If you are looking for other additions to your ska library, check out Bop Harvey's get album Bread and Circus.

  3. This CD which came out years ago, never losses its flavor.
Its high energy, happy, and great dancing music!
This is my 3rd time buying the CD over the years~

  4. Okay, so what if my husband and I were nearly the oldest people at the concert (34 & 35 now)? This album NEVER fails to get me moving. It's fun to sing along to, do dance to, to drive to. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

  5. This Album Is The Best Save Ferris Album Also A VERY AWESOME Ska Album As Well Its A Must For Every Ska Fan Out There When First Bought It I Was Blown Away It Had Me Skankin Throught The Whole Album So Its A Must Have!!!

  1. This is in my top 10 favorite CDs of all time. Great songs with great beats. Reggae-pop 80s vibe.

  2. this record can be enjoyed on so many levels- as a cry in your beer tragic breakup record (many songs take a very barbed view of romantic relationships), a fun danceable party mix (nearly every song is an absolute winner), background music to clean, cook, or hum, etc.

25 years later and it is every bit as good as the day it came out. 100 years later, the same will hold true.

if you're gonna buy one english beat record, skip the hits compilations and get this--every song is sublime, or close to.

  3. This is the third and unfortunately the last album by the originators of the Ska movement, The English Beat. Every song is really good. Some songs sound more like rock, with a twist, like "Save it For Later". Other songs, like "Sorry", "Pato & Roger", and "Sole Salvation" have more of a funky beat, and are extremly danceable. These guys are also top-notch musicians also. They don't miss a beat or a note.

  4. I am fortunate to have this on Vinyl and it is a classic album. Was also lucky enough to see them in concert at BB Kings Blues Bar NYC on 30 June this year. (If Dave and Marci from Pittsburgh are out there give me your email as I lost it!)

In terms of pure quality the End of the Party merits best track, although one can argue I confess is "Top Drawer" as is Sole Salvation and Ackee 123.

As for the rest...just hold my hand while I come to a decision on it!

    David....Leeds UK

  5. "Special Beat Service" is one of those rare recordings that never loses favor or fades with age. The English Beat are on top of their game here, singing and playing with madcap energy. The songs--a riot of riffs, driving percussion, high energy horns (particularly saxes), punctuating bass, shimmering guitar, spot-on keyboards--still sound brash and bold. And the vocals are a thing of wonder--soaring and confident.

Whether this recording was the band's best or worst is not a point I care to debate, but as it was the final release from The English Beat, I think it's certainly the one to start with. It certainly .

  1. This was a great find - it takes me back to those angst filled teenage years. As a major Joy Division fan, I was thrilled to get this CD and get a feel for their evolution as a band. Get New Order - 316 if you want to hear an early New Order still sounding like Joy Division.

  2. I have always been a huge fan of all Joy Division derivitives, including New Order, Monaco, and Revenge. This album is the boys from Joy Division before the name change. If you thought JD was raw and stark, try this one on for size. They polished a few of the songs off for later re-release, but this great album captures the pure essence of the band, with Ian is all his glory.

  3. Joy Division was a rock band. That comes through on this album. The sound is raw as is the recording but for me it's the best one, the least compromised one the most rebellious one. Great band never to return. One of those inexplicable "clicked".

  4. I owned this album for two decades as a bootleg tape that got passed around the Berkeley punk scene in the early eighties, and it never failed to become the favorite music of anyone I turned on to it. Joy Division always seems to sound better (to me) at their rawest, and the lower sound quality adds an edge of doom not found on the sanctioned version (of course this could just be that it reminds me of scratchy records). Either way, if you're a fan of "Closer" or New Order, I'm pretty sure you won't dig this. If you were immediately hypnotized by "Unknown Pleasures" like I was at fifteen, this is essential.

  5. This is great for many reasons:

    1) It's a good chance to hear the band as it just started to shed its early punk sound and become much darker-sounding. Its also a chance to hear them without any fancy Martin Hannett production trickery.

    2) It's a remarkable document of just how much Ian's voice changed in a very short time. This is a snarling, snotty sounding, angry young man at the mic - nothing to even hint that in two years he'd be crooning like a despondent Frank Sinatra on songs like "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Heart And Soul". Listen to "Walked in Line" on this album and compare it to the version from "Still." Its hard to believe they were only done a year apart.

    3) It's got a couple of what i feel are the best versions of Joy Division songs: "Shadowplay," "No Love Lost," "Leaders of Men," and "Novelty" all sound better here, even in their somewhat rough recordings, than any other version I know of.

    4) Only 3 of the 11 songs here are included on the box set.

    5) For sheer comic value, you have to love the last five songs - these are the earliest, rawest recordings of Joy Division. Sometimes I just crack up listening to these incredibly primitive cuts - "You're No Good For Me" could have been done by any number of booze-soaked louts. But even as early as July '77 Ian's lyrics were already chilling: "Human beings are dangerous and they call me in the dark" (At A Later Date), for example. Plus you get the immortal "Warsaww!!!" howl at the beginning of "Gutz."

This is a very good "punk" album and a very interesting Joy Division album. Highly recommended.

5 comments about Burnin'.

  1. I did not have the original so this was an easy decision to make. My understanding is that Burnin' was the last wailers release to include Peter Tosh. Serious Bob fans will want to add this 2 cd deluxe set to their collection. Not only is it crisp and clear but the band is tight and focused - especially true on the live selections (disc 2). The remastering effort is excellent. The first disc makes you feel like you are standing in the studio with the band and the second makes you feel like you're in the audience.
About the live disc: the band is on top of their game here. It's a tight show that features excellent versions from the Burnin' album.
If you're new to Bob you might want to start with Exodus (or at least make Exodus part of your collection at some point) but experienced fans will not go wrong with this 2 cd set.

  2. This album is one of the best I've heard! The live album is incredible with such energy and great harmonies from Bob, Bunny, and Peter. They WERE the Wailers, the originals. The beats are hot with funky guitar effects. WELL WORTH THE MONEY! If you missed catching these guys live, this album takes you there.

  3. 1973 was a monumental year for the original Wailers. A mere six months after the release of their brilliant breakthrough album, Catch A Fire, the group actually managed to top themselves with Burnin', arguably the greatest reggae album of all time. This album's most celebrated tunes, "Get Up, Stand Up" and "Sheriff" have certainly stood the test of time. But while they are, without question, worthy of their classic status, it is many of the lower profile tunes, in my opinion, that truly make Burnin' special. Take, for example, Bunny Wailer's two incredible contributions, "Hallelujah Time" and "Pass It On". His lyrics have rarely been more insightful and his voice more hauntingly beautiful than on these two cuts. And, while Peter Tosh only contributes a single song to this collection with "One Foundation", it is easly one of his finest both musically and lyrically. The Wailers' updates of classics recorded a few years earlier for Lee Perry, "Put In On", "Small Axe" and "Duppy Conqureror", are also stellar, if not necessarily superior to the originals. Finally, we have the dark, millitant anthem "Burnin' and Lootin'" and uplifting closing track "Rasta Man Chant" rounding out this amazing collection of songs.

This deluxe edition is certainly worth owning, even if you already have an original copy of Burnin' (in my case, a very worn out LP I purchased about 20 years ago). Featured as bonus tracks are two early sketches of songs Bunny would eventually re-cut for Black Heart Man: "Reincarnated Souls" and "The Opressed Song" as well as Tosh's classic "No Sympathy", which probably should have found its way onto Burnin' originally.

The real exciting news, however, is disc two, which features a concert recorded at Leed's University a short while before Bob, Bunny and Peter went their seperate ways. Bunny, as well as his tour replacement Joe Higgs, are unfortunately absent from this recording and, subsequently, so are the group's trademark three-part vocal harmonies. None the less, this is a great performance and a powerful reminder of how amazing this original lineup was. The sound quality is also vastly superior to the bootlegs I've heard.

This is truly the deluxe edition of an essential album and well worth your hard-earned money.

  4. This is the last album by the trio who started out as the Wailers. After this album tensions amoung the original Wailers (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer)proved to be too much and they broke up. But this album released in 1973 was the Wailers greatest work. the trio prefectly compliment each other on the classic I Shot the Sheriff and the fine Get Up, Stand Up. On Burnin' unlike on Catch A Fire, each Wailer gets a few of their own songs performed even though Bob Marley still takes many of the lead vocals. Burnin' is mainly some of the band's older songs re-worked with some new tunes that are quite catchy. All the songs have excellent harmonies and phat instrumentation, and to no one's suprise, the Barrett brother lay down some great grooves. This album presents the Wailers at the peak of their powers. the second disc is unbelievable. The leeds show has been in circulation amoungst tape traders but not with the quality here. The leeds show is one of my favorite wailers shows, and is one of the last concerts marley played with tosh. It is well worth the money for this, and I would recommend this as a great introduction to the wailers sound, these 2 discs surpass legened by far.

  5. "Burnin'" was the last album by the Wailers as a collective group, afterwhich Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer left the group to pursue solo careers and Marley reformed his group, calling it "Bob Marley & the Wailers" in 1974. The album shows the original three at their best, balancing lead vocals on several songs between Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, and Peter Tosh. The album not only serves to further reveal Bob's soon-to-be legendary work, but also to show the talent of Bunny Wailer with his lead vocals on songs like "Hallelujah Time" and "Pass It On".

The album also shows Tosh taking lead with Marley on "One Foundation" and alongside Marley on "Get Up, Stand Up". The album's biggest gem, however, was "I Shot the Sheriff," soon to be made a favorite in the U.S. and the U.K. by rock artist Eric Clapton on his 1974 "451 Ocean Boulevard" album.

The deluxe edition also features a concert from the tour in Leeds, U.K. just one week before the Wailers broke up. (Bunny, however, was already absent, having refused to tour outside of Jamaica once and for all earlier that year. His temporary replacement, the Wailers' old vocal coach, Joe Higgs was also absent, quitting the tour after they completed their shows in the U.S.) 1973's "Burnin'" shows the original Wailers at their very best before their breakup and is a timeless classic for music fans everywhere, I can guarentee it.

5 comments about 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Toots & The Maytals.

  1. In case you don't already know it, Toots and the Maytals are one of the best bands in the world - the kings of feelgood, upbeat reggae music. Their concerts are spiritual experiences and much of their recorded output is some of the most soulful and listenable music you'll ever hear. If you're new to Toot's music, this CD is a good place to begin. It has most of the essential Toot's songs (greatest hits). If you are a hardcore fan like me, it leaves you wanting a little more. I feel this disc would be nearly perfect if "Dreams To Remember" was left off and "Never You Change" and "True Love Is Hard To Find" were included. Aside from the early classics, the producers of this disc had the good taste to include "Freedom Train" from the "Toots In Memphis" album. Toot's version of this tune is so powerful and well-recorded. I definitely recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys cookin', soulful music.

  2. Before I bought this album, I hardly knew anything about reggae music. I heard the song "Funky Kingston" performed on Saturday Night Live with Toots (and the Maytals), Roots, and Boots(as in Bootsy Collins). I wanted to know more about these guys, Toots and the Maytals.

When I popped this disc in my player, I immediately knew it was different from anything in my collection. I typically listen to artists like U2, R.E.M., and Coldplay. But this album is so funky, so lively, and so much fun. My favorites are the first two tracks, the aforementioned "Funky Kingston" and the reggae cover of John Denver, "Take Me Home, Country Roads." Get this album and open yourself up to another world of music.

  3. so...your lookin for something to pop into your stereo and dance to..definetly put it in this! this cd is one of my favorite Toots and the Maytals. seeing them live in Philadelphia was the best show i have ever been to! best of TATM definetly has that funky beat to get your feet movin! starts off with Funky Kingston, one of my favs, and keeps on goin through 54-46 Was My Number and finally ending with another personal favorite, Freedom Train. through this cd, you will hear my absolute 2 favorite Toots and the Maytals songs, Pressure Drop and Reggae Got Soul. truly amazing. now click "add to shopping cart" already if you want to get your groove on!

  4. When listening to this C.D., you can just sense the great joy and fun they had recording it. It is the kind of C.D. you can't help but feel happy and wanna get up and dance. Especially with great tracks like the remake of John denver's country road. (my personal favorite) I am also partial to Pomp and Pride. Anyone who likes Reggae/ska will probably love this c.d. Toots and the Maytails were a very important part in early Reggae music in the 60's and 70's It is also a great starter disc for people who have interest in reggae music. It is truely a classic that stands alone

  5. Toots and the Maytals have the happiest rythm and beats. I just want to smile and dance when I listen to this. I am not familiar enough with the group to know if these would be the right song selections for the ultimate greatest hits album, but I do know that I like em a lot! All the songs are layed back, happy, and just make me think of tropical beaches and good times. If you have heard "take me home" or some of there other stuff, you probably won't be disappointed if you buy this.

  1. The dude that gave this CD 1 star is crazy!!! ...This is their 4th album and all of them are top notch...Sublime is my favorite band, but for modern day bands I put them up there with Stoopid, Pepper etc...There could've been a few more tracks on this album considering one is a skit, another cover song and 2 songs from previous albums, but the new stuff like Paper Chains, Wide Awake and Take a Ticket are silly!...Buy this CD asap, but get the others first so you can see the bands progression...my 2 cents

  2. Best CD to find since Cronchitus came out by Slightly Stoopid. Everyone in this band is talented and uses it. They change up tempo in songs, tasty guitar licks, that reaggae bass line. Can't say enough about this classic CD. Good s%it.

  3. The Expendables are each extremely talented, and if you can appreciate great rock guitar playing, mixed with a California surf sound, then you will love this CD. It is addicting - the more you listen, the more you love it. We've seen them live 4 times now, and will continue to support them whenever they grace us with their appearances in Texas. They have transformed & expanded my musical tunnel view. I absolutely love them! AND they are very friendly & nice to talk to before & after their shows.

  4. Whomever decided to diss this CD is ridiculous. I don't think it's possible to be a Slightly Stoopid and Sublime fan and not LOVE this band!
This album is great! I have seen the Expendables play live twice and will be seeing them again this weekend. I live in Indiana and am not at all a friend of the band. I first saw the Expendables last April 2007 when they opened up for one of my favorite bands, G.Love and Special Sauce in Bloomington, IN. We had never heard of them before and were VERY happy to have experienced their show. My boyfriend and I became instant fans and quickly purchased "Open Container" and "Gettin' Filthy". My boyfriend loved them so much that he bought us tickets to see G.Love and the Expendables again for their IL show. We were so pumped to see the Expendables open and I think we were the only ones singing all the songs at the top of our lungs because, like us originally, the rest of the crowd had never heard the Expendables before.
Since we live in the Midwest, there aren't a ton of bands that come through and it's hard to hear about new bands that don't get radio play. After learning more about the Expendables, we also started listening to Slightly Stoopid and Pepper, which we had never heard before.

This album is great and you can tell the band has really grown up. I bought it the day it came out and love it! My favorite song is 'Ganja Smugglin' (an Eek-A-Mouse cover) because I remember when they played it at the first show and it was great! 'One More Night' and 'Down, Down, Down' complete my top 3 from the album.

Don't listen to what the bad reviewer said. These guys are great! They are definitely comparable to Slightly Stoopid and are currently on a Stoopid tour and record on the Stoopid label. I do agree there is some metal guitar with a reggae style, so if you're really not into guitar riffs at all, you probably should stick more with Stoopid.

Regardless, this is a great album and a really great up and coming band. I really hope they get to headline their own tour soon!

-Can't wait to see them this weekend when they open up for Slightly Stoopid in Bloomington, Indiana!

  5. Sounds like an 80's metal cover band trying to rework their songs with a little reggae, because it would sell better. I got suckered into buying this album on the strength of the reviews, and all of the positive comparisons to Slightly Stoopid and Sublime. These guys are nowhere near as talented as the previous two bands, and obviously got all their friends to write good reviews for them. Every track has the same cheesy mid-80's metal guitar riff mixed in somewhere. Consider yourself warned.
