  1. Great CD. Every song is excellent but for an artist like Bob Seger, who has so many big hits, they really should have made this a 2-CD set. Fortunately, there is a "Volume 2" now available. If you're just looking for one or two songs here, this is a good album with some extras you might not have thought of. If you're really a big fan though and don't already have this stuff, you're going to want to add Volume 2 to your order.

  2. I am not going to review his CD's but I will say that they are all good. However, I am not fond of remastered anything and many of his are. I prefer the original recordings.

Someone needs to make a Bob Seger Anthology so that we can get all our favorites on one CD. He is that well liked and people will purchase it.

    I rest my case.

    RC

  3. Great collection of his hits at a great price. Loved the shipping time from amazon.com

  4. Seeger is the Greatest and this is my favorite collection mix. Never saw him in concert though.

  5. the cd has scratches on it and it doesn't play without jumping on some of the songs. disappointed in the quality.

  1. Thanks for the quick delivery. This CD really brings back so many great memories! Thanks again>

  2. One of the best compilations ever of a legend's songbook. Wanting to replace vinyl with CDs I started to purchase all of Young's great recordings and then found this collection, which captures the best of his music over the years. Dig the cover photo, too.

  3. I never understodd the nastalga behind this guy he can't even sing. The only song by this dude I can handle is "Rockin' in the free world" and even that song is nothing special, the rest on this album are just annoying. Another under talented overrated hack.

  4. There's colors on the street
    Red, white and blue
    People shufflin' their feet
    People sleepin' in their shoes
    But there's a warnin' sign
    on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
    we'd be better off dead
    Don't feel like Satan,
    but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
    any way I can.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
    Under an old street light
    Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she's gone to get a hit
    She hates her life,
and what she's done to it
    There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
    never get to be cool.

    We got a kinder, gentler,
    Machine gun hand
    We got department stores
    and toilet paper
    Got styrofoam boxes
    for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,

    Got fuel to burn,
    got roads to drive.

  5. Greatest Hits being Young's 3rd compilation and is an album "based on original record sales, airplay and download history". The album was met with great reviews by the critics and was given a full score by Allmusic. It also did well with the public peaking at #27 on the Billboard 200. We get a list of whom plays what for each track. We also get a nice mini poster of Neil Young looking pensive with his guitar. 4/5.

  1. Great album (CD)... Brings back memories for me as a child of the 70s/80s. Good price and shipping from amazon.com

  2. This is a great compilation, it has almost every single hit of Bob Seger, the only criticism that i have is that it only features studio tracks, and some singles are better live than in studio, such as Turn the page, etc. Apart from this, This Compilation is Excellent.

  3. This second volume of Bob's hits is good for both new and old fans alike; the first CD clearly wasn't enough to represent all that this artist has done. While some of Bob's very best music is inexplicably still missing, these tracks are excellent music and they showcase Bob's talent every step of the way. The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent and the artwork reflects good judgment.

The album starts with "Understanding;" Bob does a great job on this track. His voice is in excellent form; and the music perfectly accompanies his vocals. "Understanding" has a great beat and Bob's natural phrasing enhances his performance even more--great! "The Fire Down Below" really rocks; I love this number and it's a major highlight of this CD. "The Fire Down Below" uses the guitars to great advantage and Bob sings this without letting go of a single superfluous note! I love it. "Her Strut" is another rockin' tune as well.

"Beautiful Loser" has a melody that's quite strong and memorable; this is Bob at his best and it's another major highlight of this CD. Bob's excellent diction makes his performance all the better, too. "Sunspot Baby" is another tune that lets Bob open up and rock really well; "Sunspot Baby" is awesome and it all holds its own very well. "Sunspot Baby" leaves nothing to be desired--this music is all THAT good. Of course, "Katmandu" is a great Bob Seger hit; this is an example of a song that should have been on the first volume of Bob's hits but at least they finally added it here. "Katmandu" is again Bob at his very best; this rocks and that harmonica really sounds good, too!

"Shame on the Moon" is poignant, to say the least; and Bob delivers this most sensitively. "Fire Lake" also should have been on the first volume of Bob's hits; this is one incredible tune! Although the music is just right, the musicians don't try to steal the show away from Bob--he remains squarely front and center where he belongs! "Shakedown" is a somewhat lesser known Seger tune but it has Bob rockin' really well; and "New Coat of Paint" is very impressive. Bob sings with all his heart and soul on "New Coat of Paint;" and that's awesome.

"Rock And Roll Never Forgets" gets the royal treatment from Bob as he does this to perfection--and beyond! That somewhat bluesy "Satisfied" proves that Bob still has everything it takes to be a superstar; and "Tomorrow" has an arrangement that works very well; it just plain sounds good and Bob plays that guitar like the pro he is and still remains!

Bob Seger's second greatest hits CD may not provide fans with everything they wanted; for example "Feels Like a Number" and "Even Now" are nowhere to be found here. On the other hand, this is still a pretty strong album with Bob performing at his usual very best. Hopefully there will be at least a third volume of Bob Seger's greatest hits that will finally give his fans all the big, big Seger tunes.

  4. What can you say about Bob. ;) Except that I believe it is a conspiracy, and a darn good one, to force you to buy a CD for each of his big hits! ;-) What I always think of when Bob Seger is mentioned : David Letterman advertising 'Bob Seger on his "I Won't Be There" tour'... ;) Enjoy!

  5. This is a must have for all true Bob Seger fans. It has some of his best, yet less well know songs, my personal faveret is "Sunspot Baby".

  1. This double CD contains every major hit by Jackson Browne, and his best songs. It is a perfect collection for those of us who have followed his career, or for anyone who is new to his music and wants a comprehensive library of his work over several decades.

  2. When it comes to singer songwriters Jackson Browne can be spoken of in the same breath as Gene Clark, James Taylor and Paul Simon.

I suggest only Bob Dylan and Neil Young are above him, partly as they started this genre in the 1960s and are still puting out new material 40 + years on.

Well this double CD is fantastic, especially disc 1.
Highlights abound, special mention for Jamacia Say You Will (also recorded by The Byrds), Take It Easy (also recorded by The Eagles),These Days and 2 tracks from the live album Running On Empty from 1977, namely The Load-Out and Stay.

Disc 2, well I only play Running On Empty with You Love The Thunder (both from the aformentioned live album), Tender Is The Night and Lawyers In Love.

All in all it's top rate and rightly called The Best Of, however if you try Running On Empty, I think you will find it essential too.

  3. Item was exactly what was looking for. Would highly suggest this to anybody who is just looking for Jackson Browne music (the hits). Don't have to buy all his work to get his best stuff!!

  4. I remeber when i was younger my dad had this collection. It was one of the only cd's he actually owned. He would alway play it like, every time we were in the car and at first I hated it. But now after a few years i decided to look up Jackson Browne and I love it. All the songs. Songs like The road out/stay are marvelous masterpeices. I could name many of my favorites but that's up to you. anyway i like it at least...

  5. This double CD of Jackson Browne is simply awesome. I have been a JB fan for decades and I simply love this double CD. It is one of the best artist collections ever made. All JB fans....I highly recommend the double CD.

  1. I don't buy many CDs. But I love Bonnie Raitt, so this one was perfect! It really does have all her best!

  2. always love Bonnie ! but this collection of hits is only about 1/2 good. 2nd half is weak. we could have chosen better songs from her other tapes. s/h Angel from Montgomery for sure.

  3. Well, Bonnie, the world's a different place than the Macon, GA years, but, YOU haven't lost a thang, girl! Maybe there is something to say for age.... IF YOU'RE WONDERING IF YOU'D LIKE THIS CD, WELL, YES YOU WILL! I love it, and I'm not going to pretend to talk "shop" and disect this talent. You either like a riff or NOT! :) My husband likes it too!!!! He's always had a crush on ya!

  4. i admit i wasn't a big fan before - i know her and some of her songs but never own her albums. until i bought this The Best of Bonnie Raitt on Amazon.. WHOA! is all i can say. what a voice! there's a wide range of music; blues, country, even pop... and what a great performer!!
i start with the well known tracks like: "nick of time", "something to talk about", "i can't make you love me".. her voice, the music composition, instruments, etc., all first class. until i hit track #11 "love me like a man", it instantly become my favorit song! and i read the bio, it was recorded back in 1972! and further amazes me, she also play the sultry guitar!! WHOA! i have a LOT OF RESPECT for her and what a find for this record!

  5. I never, met Bonnie, but I knew her former boyfriend, Dick Waterman, who managed the old timers, like Son House, Fred McDowell, Skip James, as well, as back then Buddy Guy, Jr. Wells, and Luther Allison.
Bonnie cut her eye teeth playing with the old guys, learning that bottleneck thing, and she does justice to it. Just as John Mooney, who learned from Son House, does.
BTW, I recorded Eddie'Son'House in the fall of 1969 in my dorm room, before that fateful day when some kids, wanting to learn bottleneck, gave him a jug of wine. One bitter cold night in Rochester, a snowdrift, and frost-bitten fingers...and Son House's career was history.

  1. I was a 21-year-old college student when this album was recorded at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan. I will NEVER forget the energy in the room, the feeling of being ONE of the BEST rock-n-roll audiences in the world, and the high energy dancing we were all doing like there was no tomorrow! This album has it all and will rock your socks off! I owned the original casette version and now I have the CD. I know the words to every song by heart but, of course, like everyone else, I DO have my favorites, notably "Travelin' Man", "Beautiful Loser", "Jody Girl" and "Turn the Page." These songs will remain timeless for me. Whether you are listening to this tape in your home, or driving your car or even humming the tunes in it while riding on the back of a Harley, this is ONE tape you will NEVER regret owning. Especially if you just so happen to BE from Detroit! Rock on!

  2. I first got this when it came out as a 2 record album (actually I still have it) and knew it was awesome playing it all the time. When this CD came I was taken back to that time only its even better. The sound quality is so fantastic. I've seen him twice in concert and Turn the Page sounds just like when I saw him in 1978. Without a doubt still the best

  3. This "Live" ablum cd was recorded at Cobo Hall in Detroit, September 4th & 5th in 1975. This is an outstanding live album cd showcasing Bob Seeger & the Silver Bullet Band at their best "live". It contains 14 hard rocking songs.

    The line-up consists of:
Bob Seeger - lead vocals guitar, piano
Drew Abbott - Lead guitar, background vocals
Alto Reed - tenor, alto & baritone saxaphones, percussion, and background vocals
Robyn Robbins - organ, & etc.
    Chris Campbell - bass
Charlie Martin - drums, & etc.

The song set is as follows:
1.Nutbush City Limits (the Tina Turner classic)
    2.Travlin' Man
    3.Beautiful Loser
    4.Jody Girl
    5.I've been Working
    6.Turn the page
    7.U.M.C.
    8.Bo Diddley
    9.Ramblin' Gamblin' Man
    10.Heavy Music
    11.Katmandu
    12.Lookin' Back
    13.Get Out of Denver
    14.Let it Rock

Overall, this is one of the best live ablums ever recorded!!!

It you are familiar with Kid Rock (also from Mighican), he recorded a "Live" Trucker Album CD there at Cobo Hall also. Kid patterned his live cd package, just like Bob Seger's, as a tribute to Bob Seeger. The Album art work is almost identical. Thanks!!!!

  4. Good songs, he only knew one song on the CD but upon listening to the whole thing he loved it!!!

  5. Live Bullet

Arrived on time and in perfect condition. Thanks!

  1. My husband and I just loved this album. All the best songs were on it. We are children of the 60's, but Bruce really was fantastic.

  2. A master of tricking people to think his music is cool. He may just be as great a self promoter as Obama. His band is decent, but I can't get past his complete lack talent. Can he play a guitar? 3 chords badly. Can he sing? Yea....one frigging note. Monotone is his middle name. Clapton has talent. Brucie and Britney.....proof that talent is not mandatory for comercial success in the USA.

  3. watched the hall of fame rock and roll concert and had to have bruce's music; it is wonderful

  4. Springsteen's material is great on albums and great as individual songs; make an album out of assorted individual songs and the result is, well, stilted. I can't really complain about the song selection: this is a great set of songs, beginning with two off "Born to Run" (his first two records are ignored, since they were hitless) and running up to "Human Touch" and "Lucky Town" in '92, although it would be a stronger compilation if they'd replaced "My Hometown" with "I'm on Fire" and ditched "Better Days" altogether. The focus isn't on Springsteen's skills as a rocker and romantic so much as on his skills as a troubador; for the record, Springsteen the Troubador seems stodgy in comparison with Springsteen the Romantic Rocker. As for the oddities, you get the song from "Philadelphia," which is neither here nor there, the song from "Jerry Maguire," which every Springsteen fan in the world hates except for me, the song from the "Born in the U.S.A." sessions, which is almost a blast, and two songs that reunited Bruce with his E Street Band blood brothers at long last, with tired results. I'd say ditch it and go for the albums. Start with the one he did about America.

  5. The sound quality was very good to my ear.

I counted 13 significant hits out of 18 total on the CD. I don't understand why more top 20 hits weren't included.

Reading allmusic's list of hits, I counted 17 top 20 hits that weren't on the CD, plus "Pink Cadillac", the popular flip side of "Born to Run".

Perhaps it's a matter of which chart one follows when selecting greatest hits. That could leave a lot of room for personal preference.

  1. Having been 7 years old in 1970, I didn't know the Beatles had broken up, even though I was also aware of John's and Paul's solo albums, which my brother was wise enough to pick up right as they came out. Out of the three, I much preferred All Things Must Pass. I didn't know it then, but George was my favorite Beatle and he always will be. Paul and John were much too extreme in their respective charming showman and curmudgeonly angry-young-man cynic, but George had a nicely measured blend of both, and it is apparent in this album.

Since all albums typically open with a strong lead-in track, "I'll Have You Anytime" seems to be an odd choice on the surface, but its production stays with you and packs a punch. It immediately sets the tone for the entire album, and the remastering brings out the underlying atmosphere of the recording that I knew was there before, but it's more apparent now. It's one of the songs that bears repeated listening. It really makes you want to reach out to people you love. It's devastating. "My Sweet Lord" and "Wah-Wah" are his versions of "Plastic Ono Band - Primal Album" material. Reaching out to God for peace and lambasting his former bandmates for giving him headaches (to say the very least) are just as potent as Lennon's "Love" and "I Found Out" as well as, ironically enough, "God". John and George are both basically saying they'd had enough of Paul Mc Cartney, that he was making them physically ill and that he made himself out to be much more than he actually was, thereby suffocating the two, and they have to break away from the Beatle thing or else they'll both go insane.

"Isn't It A Pity" packs a punch in so many ways. It not only echoed Lennon's feelings about society in general, but it's also George's way of smirking in Paul's face as a parody of the structure of Paul's beloved "Hey Jude" with its simple acoustic guitar opening leading to the bombastic coda repeating "what a pity", not to mention the song's 7-plus minute length. Thankfully, George was wise enough to not do any annoying scat singing at the end.

This album has so much bright about it that it bears a separate review for each side, so that's exactly what I'm doing here. Individual reviews of sides 2, 3 and 4 will follow on their own, then I'll have as look at the bonus tracks.

It's getting a bit late, so I must be on my way to face another day.

  2. After first hearing this as young kid in the early 70's I've always felt it never received enough attention. Well written and played--such a significant production. Album's tracks have a well suited variety, from relaxing purity to peacefully spiritual to guitar jammin'. Since buying the CDs I've heard it included on my teenager's iPod. Intergenerationally superior.

  3. The item was as described and in excellent condition. Very happy with delivery time, it was very fast. Would recommend this seller to anyone wishing to buy from him. Price was very competetive and very reasonable.

    Cheers,

    JimB7082

  4. It was a long time ago since I heard this one, but due to the remastering it sounds als music from today. The man was better than many people thougt

  5. And so, armed with a pretty great portfolio of songs rejected by John and Paul, the quiet Beatle decides to blow his wad and release the whole damn thing in one go as a triple album. Classic little-brother move there. He was king for a day. Foolhardy at first glance--some would argue he should have rationed this A-list material out more carefully--but it was probably a good idea. Judging from bootlegs from this era, even minor songs that never saw the official light of day were more compelling than what would come later. In short, George was in the zone--a place he'd never been, and would never be again. I think it was a smart move going for broke here.

That said, I've always had reservations about this album. George had an exasperating habit of keeping his sly humor out of his songs, leaving us with his rarely attractive sermons (and what a born scold he was, even before he found God--maybe that was why he could relate to Dylan). And, as George rather grumpily suggests in his liner notes, Phil Spector's often magnificent production does, at times, steamroll over the delicate material. Still, he has Phil to thank for crafting the only sonically rewarding album in his catalog. Overblown at times, perhaps, but this is a sublime piece of record-making.

I've been terrorizing the wife and kids for the past year with my guitar-playing around the house, and in learning the 'All Things Must Pass' songbook I have gained a new dimension of appreciation for these strange, beautiful constructions. George knows when to haul out the Dsus2 and the F#m7, but also knows when to keep it simple. It's that uncanny Beatles-coached balance of instinct and hyper-fluent attention to detail.

I have little patience for the George Harrison cult, those people who would have us believe that he was the equal of (or better than) John and Paul. He wasn't. But there is such a thing as a George Harrison Song--with its own lovely qualities, born right out of that Harrison hard-drive--and it finds its perfect moment in this very necessary, if never repeated, freedom-drunk masterpiece.

  1. Admittedly not a huge Bruce fan, although I've always loved Thunder Road. Elvis Costello mentioned this album along with E Street Shuffle when he interviewed Springsteen on his show Spectacle. Elvis gushed over them. So I bought both cd's. Not too crazy about E Street. Put this on....WOW! one reviewer mentioned a religious experience..yeah, that's pretty close to it for me.I had already heard at least four of these songs on the radio over the years, but this was the first time I had ever heard Adam Raised a Cain, Candy's Room and Racing in the Streets. Can't get enough. So Powerful!!! Even the songs I've heard over and over on classic radio stations like Promised Land, seem to take on more power or something when listened to along with these songs. One song feeds off the next. This cd has not been off my player. It's a great feeling to hear amazing music from someone you'd kind of written off...Maybe I'll give E street another listen.

  2. I bought this album when it first came out. Didn't like it. Put it on the shelf for about 4 months and then took it down and started listening to it. The more I listened, the more I loved it. This is Bruce and the E Street Band at its best. What I love about Bruce is his Vocals, his howling and his songwriting. Bruce howls on this record. The writing is beautiful and makes me remember why I loved Springsteen in the first place. I have been playing this CD all summer and it is so America - the America I am proud to know and the America that is disappearing...In my opinion, Bruce's best album. Racing in the Streets my favorite, but Badlands, Promised Land, Prove It All Night, a howling Bruce on Something In The Night, Streets of Fire and the title track Darkness on the Edge of Town reign as some of his best...get it!!

  3. This is my favorite cd by Springsteen. In my opinion, he is one of the all time great song writers.

  4. this is his third best album behind only Born to Run and Born in the USA!!!

  5. Bruce Springsteen shaped the futures for many artists to follow. And he is as good now as he ever was.

  1. Pretty much come to the bottom of the Lennon barrel....if have to get one thing to show todays "music' lovers, this is it...

  2. Arrived in pefect condition. A great CD. Glad I ordered it, especially since I think "Imagine" is the best rock song ever written.

  3. I have always liked this CD. I orginally had it before, but my ex took it with him. I was soo glad to find the CD on Amazon & at a reasonable price!! Very good CD, especially for all the John lennon fans!!

  4. John Lennon is a musical legend, but one doesn't need me to say that. Spanning a career with the Beatles and one of the finest solo careers one can imagine, not to mention one of the finest songwriters to ever grace the earth, John Lennon could truly do it all.

1997's 'Lennon Legend: The Very Best of John Lennon,' released on Parlaphone/EMI, is a great overview of Lennon's solo career. With 20 songs and a total time of 77:30, some of Lennon's best is collected here. The thing is, this actually is somewhat unnecessary now. And unfortunately, it was unnecessary in 1997. Why, you may ask? Read on.

I'll start with the positives of this disc. If you want 20 of John Lennon's best solo songs in one sitting, 'Lennon Legend' is a great option. 'Mother,' 'Jealous Guy,' 'Power to the People,' 'Cold Turkey,' his legendary song about his heroin addiction, and his signature song, 'Imagine' can all be found here. And, the sound quality on this disc is outstanding!

But there are still plenty of negatives. 1989's soundtrack to the documentary based on Lennon's life, 'Imagine' is the best Lennon overview on the market, because it spans some of his material with The Beatles and it also includes several rarities. That's a great disc to own if you want just one disc of Lennon's.

Another soundtrack to another Lennon documentary film, 'The US Vs. John Lennon,' released in 2007, is also a great disc, but it too spans only his solo career, 1969-1980. However, that collection has 21 songs and it too contains rarities, making that a better option for a casual fan.

Overall, there are plenty of better options than 'Lennon Legend' in 2009. For a fan that wants a career spanner, go check out the soundtrack to 'Imagine.' For a fan that wants a compilation spanning Lennon's solo years only, go for 'The US Vs. John Lennon.' Both contain some rarities and the bottom line is, both are better options. But this gets four stars just because it's John Lennon, and everything here is EASILY ten star material.

  5. I can't believe what I'm reading on the screen here John Lennon legend album Explicit? Hmm well I don't think so, only one song that comes to mind where that tag should be put, Working Class Hero. Other than that, I have no idea why some bonehead decided to label all these wonderful songs with that label that aren't filthy, call it pure stupidity. All the other songs on here are worry free for hrs of enjoyment. The sound is crisp and clean just a wonderful greatest hits album for any new or old Beatles or classic rock fan.

    Highly Recommended
