  1. This is just a great CD. My daughter checks it out at the library over and over again for her 2 year old daughter, who absolutely loves it. All the tracks are fun and the "Are we there yet" track is too funny. I'm purchasing the CD for our next long distance car trip with my grandson and I can't wait to play the "Are we there yet" track the first time he asks "are we there yet?" and each time after that he asks. It's going to be a hilarious trip!

  2. I bought this cd after reading several good reviews. While my daughter loves the cd (she sometimes wants track 4 over and over and over again), I am only rating this with 4 stars. This is because I find the songs with the Count to be a little annoying (there are 3 different tracks, but it's the same song). Also, the "Are we there yet?" song is annoying too, as Elmo's voice is whiny and screeching. Not something I'd want to listen to on a long car ride. Other than those grievances of mine, the cd is fun and my daughter loves it. It is played in our car often.

  3. This is a delightful cd. All the songs are catchy and upbeat. My four and three year old sing the songs throughout the day after listening to it. It will help the time pass when traveling or provide great dancing music when at home. I highly recommend this cd. Enjoy it - we do.

  4. Our 2 year old daughter loves this tape! We play it over and over in the car and we all sing along. The songs are up-beat and fun. And it also features the familiar voices of Sesame Street characters, like Big Bird, Elmo, Zoe, Count, etc.

  1. I like all the songs on this CD, except for one. "I Wan't to Hold Your Ear" is the exception. It's sung by Bert in the style of a Cole Porter love ballad, but the words are creepy. It makes Bert seem like a serial killer, as he describes taking apart his loved one and holding various body parts. What were they thinking when they let this song get on the CD? When I hear my son singing it in the back seat, it creeps me out.

  2. I bought this CD basically just to have "Letter B", one of my favorites from childhood. Unfortunately, the version on the CD is not the version from the show with the muppet Beetles singing the song. I don't know where the CD version comes from, but it is horrible - barely even follows the Let It Be melody. Likewise other songs on the album, which seem to be take-offs only in title. Very disappointed.

  3. This a fun CD, even for adults. I love kids music that isn't TOO much like kid's music such as other obnoxouis purple characters. This CD is funny and great bc the songs are based off popular songs of the 60s, 70, 80s and even 90s. (Rebel L? That's hilarious!!) My son is only 10 mos old and loves it. This is our "in the car" CD!

  4. This one took some getting used to. Most of the songs are takeoff of an original famous song or genre. None follows the original music exactly and at first I found this quite disconcerting. The words were funny, but I kept expecting the original tune. I still feel this way about some. "Hey Food" doesn't work because "Hey Jude" is one of the great songs of all time and it's annoying to hear an inferior takeoff. "Let It Be" is less great but still better than "Letter 'B'". But some of the takeoffs are masterpieces in their own rights. Forgive me, but I almost like "Rebel 'L'" better than the original, which I adore. And the genre parodies (Spector-ish girl groups, a generic Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley song etc ) are easier to enjoy. I'm glad I persisted.

  5. My son loves everything Sesame Street. This CD is no exception. It's cute with a fun beat for kids.

  1. We actually are enjoying this music as we speak! My son loves the "Rockin Around the Xmas Tree" song. I'm not a fan of the Count singing "Let it Snow" but outside of that it is a really great CD of classics that little ones are sure to love. I even catch myself walking around singing "Elmo wants a hippo for xmas". Great CD. Well worth the money.

  2. My children, ages 3 1/2 & 2 LOVE this Christmas cd. They get very excited when they recognize the monster singing the song. It is great for singing and dancing, and is just awesome holiday fun!

  3. Elmo is probably the most creatively consistent of the Sesame Street gang, however, this particular collection was a bit of a letdown following his brilliant string of hit records. I even went several months without listening to this before a friend of mine talked me into giving it another shot. He claimed it was an underrated classic on par with the famous John Denver/Muppets collaboration. I do not find this to be so, but it is still a good release. There was a rumor in the late-80s that Elmo had converted to Judaism, but this Christmas release seems to say otherwise, unless he is simply cashing in on his celebrity and selling out his religion, in which case I would be very disappointed.

  4. Nothing like this album, based on the great video, to add the holiday spirit to any playroom or early childhood classroom. During our visit from Santa, Rosita teaching Elmo "Feliz Navidad" really added an upswing to the party for my multiply handicapped kids. And "It's Christmas Again" is a great song to learn to talk/sing with.

  1. Though it is billed as the soundtrack to the video Elmo Saves Christmas, this title predominantly features holiday classics rather than music from the movie. (I purchased it thinking it would include songs like "Every Day Can't Be Christmas," but found that that song and some others are not on the album.)

Despite this, if your little listeners are Sesame Street fans, they will enjoy this album, which features favorite characters singing such songs as "Here Comes Santa Claus" and "Let It Snow."

5 comments about Songs from the Street: 35 Years of Music.

  1. This set of 3 CD's had a great mix of classic and contempary Sesame Street songs.

  2. About half the songs are the original television versions. But the liner notes for the other half list them as being "from" other COMPILATIONS released in the 1990s.
Nowhere is it stated whether those compilations used the original versions or re-recordings, so who knows? Even the TITLE theme is not the original (It might be the version they use nowadays, but it's not the version most people know from the 70s).
Sesame should have just used the original TV versions of all tracks as that's what collectors of vintage material would be looking for (and paying quite a lot for).
They also should have focused more on the early years when the show was the most innovative. And as music was a major element, I'm sure there's a lot more material that could have been used, particularly those odd demonstrational songs about the number 5 or the letter R. Instead they've focused on the celebrity guests, most of whom don't really add much value.
I personally hoped there'd be that funky counting to ten song that featured on almost every episode (not the Pinball one, which I love too).
Disappointing, but until a better option comes along, this will have to do.

  3. I bought this when my daughter was born, and two years later she still asks for them to be played. The set contains three CDs, on which are collected famous songs, and ditties from the Sesame Street show...favorites like C is for Cookie, Healthy, Happy Monsters performed by famous groups like REM and more. The songs are not just kid friendly, adults will enjoy the refreshing take on some old favorites too:)

  4. I have always loved the music from Sesame Street, and as I have gotten older I have found that the next generation loves it just as much as I have, whether it be the older or newer songs. Since I bought this album, I have had it regularly playing at my sons' request. Funnily enough, anyone who walks in to our house smiles when they hear the music, ask what the album is, then sit back and enjoy it all - regardless of whether they have ever watched Sesame Street or not. Furry and real voices have universal appeal whatever the age of the listener! A beautiful album.

  5. If you grew up on Sesame Street - or just want some music for kids that isn't annoying - this is the box set for you! The songs are clever, amusing, lively, and educational. We bought it for ourselves as a trip down memory lane before our son was born - and since then it has been our favorite baby shower or first birthday gift! Everyone who has it loves it!

  1. got this to get even with my daughter. hopefully my granddaughter wants to listen to it as often as my daughter did when she was little. i still remember most of the songs!

  2. I loved this movie when I was a kid, now it's my daughter's favorite! Timeless, sweet songs.

  3. I grew up with this movie and hearing the songs brought back the awesome childhood memories. "One little star" and "I'm so blue" brought tears to my eyes. "Upside down world" on the other hand cracked me up. I didn't think about it much when I was little, but when Ernie and Bert flew that airplane upside down I don't think they realized that they were asking for certain death. lol

The only downside is there are monologues for a lot of the songs and I'm not really into that kind of thing. Plus the "One Little Star" song starts one minute into the track.

  4. I may be 18 now but I grew up on this movie and the soundtrack is a great addition to any cd library

  5. You don't have to be five years old to enjoy this kind of music. This CD appeals to every person of any age. Kids and adults alike will get a kick out of listening to this amazing soundtrack from the equally amazing movie. Every song is perfectly appropriate, and you'll be happy to know that none of these songs are too babyish either.

Probably the best song on the whole soundtrack is "Easy Goin' Day". Very catchy tune, with catchy and yet squeaky-clean lyrics. Not every song on the soundtrack is happy, though. The song "I'm So Blue" is enough to make anybody want to cry. Altogether, the CD has just the right balance of happiness and sorrow.

Make sure you check this CD out sometime. You'll be glad you did.
