5 comments about Original Bad Company Anthology.

  1. In the era of Supergroups, Bad Company was one of the 70's finest. Cobbled together from ex-Free, Mott and King Crimson members, they came on like gangbusters and picked up by legendary Led Zep manager Peter Grant, Bad Co leapt to prominence on their still superb debut album. Taking a song guitarist Mick Ralphs was told wasn't right for Mott The Hoople, "Can't Get Enough," the bluesy soulful voice of Paul Rodgers carried the day and the band was instantly successful.

As the first group signed to Led Zepplin's Swan Song label, it was little surprise that Bad Company rocked raw and hard. They also knew how to lay a sensual groove, as the second album's (Straight Shooter) "Feel Like Making Love" proved. These two albums were Bad Company's best, so it makes sense that the entire first disc is made up of songs from this period. Like so may groups from the period, Bad Company likened themselves to outlaws and lovermen (their eponymous Bad Company theme) as well as hard drinking party men ready for new adventures ("Good Loving Gone Bad," "Movin' On"). There's also self-mythology which was done really well with "Seagull" and "Shooting Star." Almost every song from Disc 1 has become a classic rock staple, and deservedly so.

The second disc shows the wear and tear. The original line-up of Ralphs, Rodgers, Kirke and Burrell made six albums, so the remaining four compete for space on disc two, along with some new tracks. (And none from Bad Company Mach II, the Brian Howe version of the band.) I've always considered Run with the Pack to be the last good album from the original line-up and the odd thing is the playful remake of The Coasters' "Young Blood" is left off this set. Only two songs apiece from Burnin' Sky and the forgettableRough Diamonds made the cut, and the title track from Sky was the best thing on that album.

Desolation Angels reversed the slide by introducing some new sounds to the mix and the killer single "Rock and Roll Fantasy." Rodgers sounds like he's trying new styles on "Oh Atlanta" (not the Little Feat song), but it was becoming obvious that band was running out of gas. I may be alone in this, but other than "Tracking Down a Runaway," the four new songs aren't very memorable. The blues/rock that Ralphs and Rodgers pushed for was a solid formula, but it was still a formula. The first of the two CD's on this set contains the lion's share of the good stuff, and this is the best re-mastering available so far (tape hiss and all). So until the original albums get an upgrade, "The Original Bad Company Anthology" is the place to go.

  2. This is a great compilation. Paul Rogers has one of the greatest voices in the classic rock era. This offering is packed with essential hits and will leave you singing along the whole time.

  3. There's a reason why this is called "Original"; it's the Bad Company with Paul Rodgers as the vocalist. Which means it's the only Bad Company that counts. I mean, it's like Black Sabbath without Ozzie or Van Halen without David Lee, it's just not the same. Call me a purist.

This Anthology just about has it all from the original group, including four new songs. This two disc set has outstanding songs including "Can't Get Enough", "Rock Steady", "Ready For Love", "Bad Company", "Good Lovin' Gone Bad", "Feel Like Makin' Love", "Burnin' Sky", "Rock and Roll Fantasy" & "Tracking Down a Runaway" (a new cut that sounds like it could've been from the era of their debut album). There's some previously unreleased tracks & b-side 45 tracks but nothing very revelatory. The track "Smokin' 45" (previously unreleased) has lyrics by Pete Sinfield who did the same thing for King Crimson & Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

The liner notes are good & has the lyrics to all the songs. The only reason I didn't give this album five stars is because there is too much filler here. I know, that's MY problem.

  4. Bad Company as a band certainly deserve a 2-disc compilation, but I'm not sure if the 'Original' lineup does. Believe it or not, but the late-80s lineup without Paul Rodgers had 15 charting singles, more than the 'Original' lineup. I would've preferred one disc with the classic lineup and a second disc with the late-80s lineup.
Anyway, "The 'Original' Bad Company Anthology" is missing a few hits: "Electricland", "Live For The Music" and "Young Blood". The new tracks, are very good, however.

  5. the oringinal bad co anthology is all the casual bad co fan could ever want all the hits, good deep cuts, and some new tracks that aren't half bad. but like the title says this is the "original" bad co anthology so it only covers the oringinal group which wrote the groups first six albums. but odds are that wont bother any but the most hardcore fans. so if its bad co you want and you only want to make one purchase then this is the one for you

  1. Elvis is great ,evey song was very inspirational, i am real pleased with this cd.

  2. There are 3 disks in this "complete gospel" album. While some are wonderful, many are poor as they were only "jamming" sessions and outside of Elvis' vocal range. I'm glad I didn't buy the recording and pay full price.

  3. My grandfather likes it very much. He just transitioned to cds with his new truck.

  4. This is Elvis at his best with the music he loved. With each song, you feel the emotion he sang with. This 3 cd set is the best. I highly recommend it, and to even to those who have never followed his music will feel his love.

  5. Singing Gospel Music. It's what Elvis loved the most, and what he did better than any mortal who ever lived on this earth. This incredible 3 CD set has every Gospel song ever done by the King - The 1 EP, three LPs, live performances, rehearsals, jam sessions. No one could do Gospel Music better than Mr. Presley & of all the various genres (rock, country, ballads, blues, etc.) Gospel was what he loved the best. I could listen to this music around the clock & it would never get old. Whether atheist or Bible Believer - YOU NEED THIS MUSIC - you'll never be the same. Thank you Elvis!!

  1. This is awesome. I recommend this product. My step-father is 75 years old and he loves Johnny Cash. He nearly cried when I gave it to him; he was so grateful. He played the music and it captured Johnny Cash's earlier days and also later. I enjoyed it also.

  2. great choice wonderful music and totally the best if u love johnny cash one the best and all time greatest .a must have for all collections

  3. The Johnny Cash Album, The Legend, is of excellent quality and delivered on time. I am very satisfied with Amazon's service!

  4. He had something that alot of musicians lack today, heart. All of his songs reflect a journey filled with pain and sorrow and looking for hope. But, he knew his need for God. A great, great collection for the price.

  5. I think that it is a great compilation. I would have enjoyed more of his later works, including some rare covers, but otherwise every recording was wonderful. This was a gift for my father & he thoroughly enjoyed it.

5 comments about The Christmas Trilogy (3CD/DVD).

  1. Last year a friend of mine introduced to me this Christmas Trilogy by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, an orchestra I've never heard about. I love Christmas but usually I'm very tired of Christmas music, especially because there're so many poor covers of Christmas classics. I get tired already in early November, so you can just imagine, how tired I am in Christmas Eve.

Before me and my friend sat down and listened to this compilation album, I, of course, really didn't expect anything at all and was fully prepared to prejudice it to pieces. But it turned out all my preparations were in vain. It didn't take long for me to realise: this is how Christmas classics should sound like: like classic rock ... and yet there was so much else to it than just that. It was classic hard rock combined with a twist of pop, techno, jazz etc. performed by a host of more or less known (but fully talented) musicians, orchestras and sometimes a children choir. Also included are many timeless classics by f.x. Bach ("Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring"), Mozart ("The Magic Whistle"), Pachelbel (two very different but equally great versions of "Canon") and many others. All in all it is an exceptionally good blend of songs from different eras with different instruments and performers, but at the core lies quality music by some classic hard rockers from Savatage that brings new power to classics as well as christmas classic making it one the best christmas-based albums of all time.

What you get is 3CDs + 1DVD with a consert. The music is based upon three christmas stories. You can read about them in the leaflets where especially the last one is touching, reminding the listener of all the good things Christmas is all about. But all good things shouldn't only be reserved for Christmas, it should be reserved for the whole year. That's why I even listen to this trilogy (which I've bought after I visited my friend) at summer time in the Faroes where I come from and where there's daylight virtually all 24 hours a day. It might sound stupid listening to Christmas music in the summer with neverending daylight but in this cause it's really worth it.

    Enjoy it.

  2. I love TSO! The disk set is great and the added DVD is like being at the concert.

  3. I bought the trilogy because I kept misplacing my seperate CD's. Not only do I enjoy Trans Siberian Orchestra, but so do my children ages 15 and 11. This is a wonderful collection to own.

  4. This trilogy is a great buy and a must have for the holidays. It will turn even Scrooge into Santa Clause! The 3 CD's are full of great songs that can be played over and over again and the DVD is great to watch as a family and really gives that much more meaning to all of the music. This is a great gift for yourself or someone else and is a deal for what you get!

    Enjoy!

  5. The best thing I bought. The songs will still play in your head even after the cd stop playing.

  1. Having All Their Studio Albums Some Remastered And Some Not I Bought This Box Set Anyway ! The Remastered Sound Is Great. Some Reviews Gave Complaints About This, But They Sound Great On A Worthy Stereo!
Getting Tommy Fogerty And Blue Velvets + The Golliwogs Cd Is Worth The Purchase Alone For A Collecter Like me ! And Then You Get The 2 Live CD's ! The Live Version Of Keep On Chooglin Totally Rocks !!! After You Buy This To Start, Then Go Order All The John Fogerty Solo CD's (7) In All, And His Brothers CD The Best Of Tom Fogerty ! This Will Finish Up This Bands Talent !

  2. If you like Creedence Clearwater Revival music and don't have any (or very much) in your collection, then this is the set that has it all. Some of the early stuff before they were Creedence isn't all that good (mostly because it doesn't sound like them) but everything else they did is in this box set including live versions. Better than a greatest hits!

  3. You get one CD of Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets, one CD of the Golliwogs, all the CCR studio ablums (ablums?) and two live concerts. One concert is the four piece and the other concert is the three piece. All remastered.

Now, you have to buy the boxed set to get the remastered, original track listing of the three piece concert. Otherwise, you end up purchasing a CD with a few tracks missing. Bugger that. Especially when its Sweet Hitchhiker that was one of the tracks cut.

    Well worth the money.

  4. This box set gives you all studio and live albums in one, compact and uniform looking box set. CCR has many good songs, all of their popular ones are very good, but there are lots of other good ones that are not so popular. It comes with 6 discs. One disc is pre-creedence material that is actually very worthwhile. Two of the discs are kind of a live version of songs. The set also comes with a 20-30 page booklet with all kinds of commentary on what CCR was and how they came to be.
To me, discovering CCR was like finding something new and fresh when looking back in time. They are a definitive band of the 60s and 70s and I really can't understand why the radio stations I hear don't play more of them...

  5. This set has to be the best historical set of Creedence Clearwater Revival. The remix is excellent which allows you to enjoy this "classic" compilation in digital sound. If you are a CCR fan this is a must have set!!

  1. This guy was a genius before he lost his mind and stayed angry forever when his guy wasnt elected president. This collection of didn't make its is one of the best ever, nearly as good as Van Morrisons. Too bad he wasn't decent enough to share some of his writing skills with needy artists, Nils Lofgren for instance sure could have used a hit or two. Instead Bruce gave his little buddy a job as 2nd guitarist in his wall of sound. This collection would be for most artists a greatest hits album to be proud of. I was just listening to Wild Innocent and E. St Shuffle, its SO good i can see why some of these songs didnt make it. Back then Bruce was a happy fun and very creative guy who really rocked, too bad his new stuff like "magic" is total GARBAGE, The recording sounds like it was done using a 1967 transistor radio with mono sound and a cassette tape recorder. Every song on TRACKS sound way better than any of his new crud. I burned my own best of tracks CD and its as good as anything Bruce has ever done, and thats saying a LOT. I wish he could stop watching CNN and getting his brainwashed, he seems to blame the USA for everything bad in the world and has totally forgotten that the muslims attacked us first. That kind of anger must eat a man up inside and thus his very poor last 3 albums. Bruce you have $100 million in the bank, try to smile and relax, who knows maybe you still have one good one left in you.

  2. I have not been at all disappointed with these CDs. If you are a true Springsteen fan, you will not be disappointed!! I am very delighted that I added this to my collection.

  3. Great album, astounding artist! You'll discover how deep and beautiful is the music of Bruce Springsteen. Before this album, he was nothing more but "Streets of Philadelphia", "Secret Garden" and "Dancing In The Dark". With this album I've discovered an entire universe of sound, rhythm and stories. Enjoy a special artist and a thrilling voice.

  4. I love this collection. It has tons of material never previously released and it's so cool to discover all of them. Some real standouts for me are Loose Ends, Sad Eyes, and Thundercrack. With over 50 Springsteen songs to enjoy you just can't go wrong-there's something that fits whatever mood you're in at that moment.

  5. Very, very good music.
At the beginning I thought this was the typical kind of barroom-music rubbish, only for the real freaks.
But no, these are really very good songs, lots of them worthy of being publicated on the first LPs. The problem is, he wrote so many good songs in such a short time, that he had to chose between good and even better songs.
This is definitely a must have for all Bruce Springsteen fans, and it's a pleasure to listen to new songs in the 21st Century, with the quality of the much younger Bruce.

5 comments about 1973-97-Complete Hits Collection.

  1. I purchased this for my mom who is a huge Billy Joel fan! She has seen him in concert so many times throughout her life (I've seen him a few times along with her). I know that every one of Billy's albums are her favorite, but I wanted to buy her a cd with most of his greatest hits so she could keep them in her car. She is very happy with this set. She loves the information in the booklet/sleeve. Her only complaint was that her all-time favorite song was missing from this collection..."You're My Home". But, luckily she has that song on another cd. :) I plan on buying this set for myself in the near future.

  2. I always loved Billy Joel and was looking for a collection of his greatest hits. From what I see on this compilation, there is no need to purchase additional CD's to "fill in the gaps." I am quite pleased with the sound quality as well.

  3. I purchased this collection to prepare for seeing Billy Joel in his 1st appearance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.Despite monsoon conditions THE PIANO Man proved to be quite THE ENTERTAINER!
Now I can listen to Captain Jack whenever.......

  4. 1973-97-Complete Hits CollectionIf one is "searching" for a Good Sampling of Billy Joel songs, one need look no further. THIS Compilation features ALL "his hits"; and THEN SOME. I 'recommend' A Matter Of Trust, All About Soul AND The Stranger. These are "my" favorites; exemplifying Mr. Joel AT HIS BEST. "Live" material ALSO is included 'in this compilation' (including Billys' take on the Beatles "A Hard Days' Night".) BUY; and ENJOY !!!

  5. I previously wrote reviews for the three greatest hits discs so I won't elaborate on them(see my reviews for the individual albums). The fourth disc contains some non-musical storytelling with some live performances and demos. This collection does span a quarter-century(calendar years 1973-97) of Bronx,New York native and Grammy-winner Billy Joel's career. To date,he has sold over 110 million albums worldwide and I guarantee you, over the next quarter-century,that number will be doubled. Not only does Joel hold a place in the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame,he holds a place in the Songwriters' Hall Of Fame since he has written almost every song he has ever recorded.

5 comments about How the West Was Won.

  1. Possibly better than The Song Ramains the Same. If you like Led Zeppelin (considered one of the best rock bands and revalued generation after generation) I think this triple is a good choice. The singer is O.K (now his "Raising Sand" is astonishing), the guitarist is wonderful, the bassist sounds fine and the drummer was one of the best in his genre.

  2. These are a set of live recordings that were rediscovered in 2003 and re-mastered.
They sound fantastic and are a must-have for any zeppelin fan. I've recently had
to start driving to work one day a week and these cds have made me look forward
to the ride (which is otherwise miserable).

  3. Legendary performances by legendary rock icons. Thought not known as one, LZ certainly qualifies as a "jam band" as evidenced here. A must have for any and every fan of classic rock. Masters at the top of their game.

  4. Not that you needed another five-star review to think about getting this, but I have to chime in. This is one of the finest live albums I've ever heard. Zep were in their prime here (the material for this album was taken from two concerts in June of 1972, one in Los Angeles and one in Long Beach) and boy, does it show. My favorite song on the album is "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" which the fellas play with a great deal of energy and the appreciative crowd enthusiastically claps along. Their big hits from that era are here, like "Black Dog", "Rock And Roll", "Immigrant Song", and of course "Stairway To Heaven." If you're even kind of a Zep fan, this album is absolutely essential.

  5. 1. the dvd-audio sounds a bit compressed and bright. needs to sound fatter.

    2. the subwoofer needs to be turned up a tad.

    3. where are robert plant talking through the whole concert?? thats a big part of zeppelin live.

other than this its cool :)

5 comments about Led Zeppelin.

  1. my husband was very satified with this product and it made the perfect father's day gift.

  2. This is a very good collection of Led Zeppelin tunes, and the remastering by Jimmy Page highlights the guitars (surprise surprise). An outstanding collection for those who don't want or need the full albums. But beware, Atlantic Records is releasing a new compilation, "Mothership" in November 2007. Overall, this set is much more comprehensive with its four CDs than Mothership's two CDs. Mothership will also be available in an edition with a bonus DVD, but according to news reports that will also just be recycled material from the earlier issued Led Zeppelin DVD. This set, along with the full DVD, is probably better, because you get more Zep. But very casual fans may find "Mothership" adequate.

  3. Let me make clear at the outset that this review is NOT intended to be critical of Led Zeppelin as a musical group, and hopefully avoid some terrible comments and negative feedback. I like Led Zeppelin. I have every song they ever recorded. Wonderful band. Unfortunately, no matter how great of a band they are, that can't save this boxed set from being truly awful.

Honestly, I can't begin to understand the inspiration behind this collection. It's four discs of music containing almost - but not quite - everything the band ever recorded, including some off-album tracks that can be harder to get. Certainly, this set collects the majority of the desirable Led Zeppelin tracks, but unfortunately, it also collects a large amount of other detritus that will only be of interest to the dedicated fan and will most likely be skipped over by the casual listener. I don't know what the audience of this boxed set is supposed to be, but the odds are you aren't it.

Aside from being a somewhat scrambled set, this box carefully avoids collecting all of the tracks from even one of Led Zeppelin's original studio albums, no doubt in a ploy to force listeners to purchase another CD or 10. The completist will be dissatisfied with the fact that there are gaping holes in this collection, while the casual fan or an individual just looking for radio hits, in addition to finding a couple of notables missing, will find much, much more material here than he could ever want. For a short while, the Led Zeppelin Boxed Set Volume 2 2-CD set served to complete the box and turn it into a complete collection of studio recordings, but that box has long since gone out of production, forcing anybody who finds that they like the majority of the music on these 4 discs to either lay out for the 10-CD boxed set or buy the CDs individually, and in both cases utterly invalidates their purchase of this set.

I can't recommend this set to anybody. Led Zeppelin is a terrific band - II, IV, Houses of the Holy, and still more are all classic rock recordings - but this boxed set has an audience of exactly nobody. For dedicated fans, I recommend that you go out and get the 10-CD complete recording set, and for casual fans, I would recommend one of the many other 1 and 2 CD greatest hits compilations, or just going straight to the original recordings to get a taste of what the group is all about. This box, however, will ultimately satisfy nobody.

  4. I bought both Vol.1&2 Box sets and I really regret doing that, the songs are in no particular order and growing up hearing Zep songs your used to certain songs running together such as "Heartbreaker" into "Living loving maid" or "you shook me" into "dazed and confused" you get none of that classic line up on here. Led Zeppelin were an ALBUM band and their Classic music should be listened to as they intended it to be heard, one album at a time. I plan in the future to buy all of the individual albums.
I highly recommend anyone else to go that direction also.

  5. The order arrived 5 days late, and my emails to inquire about it went unanswered. So when it did arrive, I was a little upset. The packaging of this collection is exactly like that of an old LP collection, and I immediately thought "Oh great, they sent the wrong media!". But it turned out to be right. There are some minor flaws with the CDs (this is not their fault either) in that they play correctly, but iTunes could not convert 3 songs on 2 different discs. To get around the problem, I had to use another program to rip the songs to hard disk, then import them.

  1. Megadeth is one of the classic thrash metal bands, and as such they have a lot of albums, and a lot of experience. This collection has something from every part of their careers, and as such it is a must have for any avid fan.

There are plenty of goodies, from unreleased tracks to never before seen video, plus demo versions of some of their most popular songs.

At any rate, if you're as big a Megadeth fan as I am, this belongs in your collection.

  2. Start by saying this is a great 5 cd/dvd set.
the unreleased stuff is great, the dvd is amazing, the live at hammersmith is fantastic cd. many rare tunes to listen to.
BUT....more than half of this is available on the album releases.//why release a box set of stuff already released, th is I dont understand,...if your gonna release a 4 cd/dvd set,..pack it with stuff never released, japan bonus tracks, ALL demo material( from 82 to date )
studio sessions of songs not on the releases, or that didnt make the final cut to album, stuff that is not or may never be available again, t his set is great but more than half i already own on their releases.
Where is Killing is my business, and Hidden treasures w/ the Japanese bonus tracks. all the singles that have a different sound/producer, Megadeth has so much material, why not just release ALL OF IT for the fans that give Dave his nice home in the southwest, and pay for vacations and nice cars etc etc. There is TONS of material out there by Megadeth,...so we will have to wait longer now for those lost gems.
but t his set is good for fans, I do enjoy it, albeit the shortcomings.

  3. My son loves Megadeth! He really loves the Megadeth Warchest. It made his collection almost totally complete!

  4. first off i'm actually 17, i just don't want to screw up my friends account, the one im using. secondly this is a great box set.

i have no complaints about this product at all. the music is great, the military "warchest" styled box looks cool(the inside graphics as wicked awesome), and the book has over 25 pages of good pictures, a brief history, and discography the band. i have been a fan for about 4-5 years of Megadeth and never owned an album or any music by them until now. on a limb i bought this, and it was a steal. the first three discs are great music, alot of "previously unreleased" song but still great, disc four is a great live cd of their concert in Wembley stadium, London in 1990, and then disc five is a live dvd at Hammersimth, London in 1992, great footage.

to sum it up i would give this a five stars, but the amazon priece is a bit too expensive even for this, so i gave it a four stars. i would recommend buy it from an independent seller for about $[...] or less. i got mine brand new for $[...], a great buy and i love it. good luck in your quest to find a cheap one.

    JAWS

  5. GREAT ¡¡ The best of Megadeth is righ here ¡¡ official versions, rarities and DVD awsome show in London '92 ...to new fans or who's not know it... high "dosis" of greatest thrash metal band... MEGADETH ¡¡
