1 comments about Trojan Box Set: Jamaican Superstars.
- Trojan Records has done a great service to all collectors with the release of (I think) 16 low-priced box sets representing different facets of Jamaican music. The Jamaican Superstars set is (like the Producers set) dedicated to 6 artists. Each of the three CDs in the set are split between two singers. I personally got my introduction to most of these "superstars" through "Tougher Than Tough" - the story of Jamaican music boxed set, but it wasn't until I bought this collection that I began to truly appreciate their talents. Gregory Isaacs (who I had originally written off as being "strictly for the ladies") shines on his tracks. Dennis Brown and Alton Ellis, likewise, are stellar. The true star of this set however, is PAT KELLY. Now, for those of you who haven't heard of him, Pat Kelly is the Jamaican Sam Cooke. I would go so far as to say that he is the greatest voice (save, maybe "Scratch") in Jamaican music. For anybody screaming at their monitors right now about Bob Marley, you need to check your history and see that Bob copped his entire vocal style from the afore-mentioned "Scratch" Perry; his pre-Perry vocals are vastly different from his work after recording with the Upsetter. Please note that I am NOT knocking Bob Marley, just putting him in his place. But, I digress. The Jamaican Superstars set is a wonderful addition to any collection. See also, the Lovers Box Set; both volumes of the Dub Box Set; the Rocksteady Box (the best of all); and the very mighty DJ Box Set. I wish I could have given this set 3 and 1/2, but the ratings would not allow.

1 comments about Revolutionary Sounds: The Essential Collection of Classic Roots Reggae, 1973-1981.
- This colection shows the best of reggae in that period, a lot of famous songs and bands are here. If you like reggae, you must have it in your collection. 4 cds, with 14 songs each, including Melodians, Jacob Miller, Culture, Joe Higgs, Rita Mrley, Lee Perry, The Scientists and a lot of bands that you will know if you really like reggae. This boxed set ignores reggae's big three (Marley, Tosh and Cliff) in favor of presenting some of the best classic sounds of the period....makes for a well-balanced collection. A good choice!

- This box set has all the best of Bob Marley that's not on Legend. It's great to wake up to on a rainy morning, it's great to bike through town with, it's the best music to listen to when you're toasted, but this box set is not live.

2 comments about Reggae Legend.
- This is an illegal bootleg release. Buy 'The Complete Bob Marley & the Wailers 1967-1972', parts 2 and 3 (from JAD Records) or Bob Marley & The Wailers albums from Trojan Records instead, if you want to have the songs on this album. JAD's and Trojan's releases are legal, and the sound quality is often much better on their albums. Also, if you buy the box sets from JAD, part of the money will go to the Bob Marley and Peter Tosh families and Bunny Wailer (the three original Wailers).
- this cd has bob marley songs that arent that wel recognized but they are still great.the songs are kinda gritty and raw like those old reggae mix tapes. overall good compilation by the king of reggae.

4 comments about Lost Treasures of the Ark.
- Mr. Perry has done his home work and he know how to put thing together. What I like most about this CD is Bob Marley's lost songs, never released. I also like his Documentary(DVD) The Unlimited Destruction. You'll get alot of info. from that. So enjoy. Out
- This 3 cd set makes sense to get as a companion to the far superior "Arkology" set (the only Perry you need to get your collection off the ground), but for me, the collection lacked the power and ferocity of the aforementioned "Arkology."
Focusing much more on Perry's early, more straight forward recordings than on the mid-late 70's bombs that still have me reeling after almost 4 years of continuous listening, the tracks may be lost, but not nearly the treasues of "Arkology." Don't get me wrong, there are wonderful tracks on this collection, and I quite enjoy the collection as a whole, but overall, I'll listen to this a lot less than "Arkology," and with the lack of great liner notes and track history, the collection as a whole suffers from under-production- perhaps the record company was too interested in making a fast buck, dangling the raw Wailers'tracks as bait, to take the time needed to release a more unified, more high quality collection. Get "Arkology" and go from there. This collection is good, but not great.
- If you own the Arkology, which is Lee Perry's best work, you should own this one too. Discs 2 and 3 are reminiscient of the arkology (his early 70's recordings in the black ark), but disc 1 is a special treat with extremely raw and untreated, but pure Bob Marley tracks!
- Not as consistent and even as Arkology, and the booklet lacks important info (years, musicians, vocalists) but "I MON JUST HERE FOR THE MUSIC!" And man, the music is here. The unreleased Marley tunes are worth it alone. Other gems are "Glory Glory," "Rainy Night in Portland" and "Earth A Go Wheel" among many others. If you've got Arkology and are jonesing for more killer Scratch cuts, buy this! The dubs are as fat as fat can be -- so greasy and swampy it almost makes you sick (in a good way...) Overall: sublime. Again, the order of songs doesn't always flow and I really wish the credits were more thorough and informative, but really, the skankin' grooves are here! SEEN!
