- No Stars! - Beware - not the original versions. Seems to be cobbled together from dubious sources. I am a huge fan of the Philly Sound and was horrified at this collection. The only reason to buy this is for a laugh. Ex. - The version of "The Love I Lost" that is credited to Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes (which I sincerely doubt is them) has vocals that are off-key and out of time with the "musicians/synthesizers" on the backing track. Yes, synthesizers! Not Philly strings. Bad, bad, bad.
- this Quality of Musicianship has been long missed from the City of Brotherly Love.Kenny Gamble,Leon Huff,Thom Bell,Bobby martin&the Great House Band that played on so many classics along with so many great talents made Philly soul music so soulful to the soul&Mind. so many great tracks are this Multi Set.hearing the trademark strings&Orchestration along with the Drums,Guitar, bass&trademark Background Harmonys all feel so good.I finally just got through reading the Book on the Philly sound&it's very eye opening, but a Great read along with hearing so many classics here.Philly soul ruled much of the 70's R&B.you always got a sense of every Act that Gamble&Huff having there own thing as well.this is a Must have collection.
- I was so excited when I saw the selections on this 3-disc compilation that I immediately ordered it without reading the above opinion...I wish I had. The renditions are not those that I remember on vinyl, and the sound quality is average, at best. It's almost like the versions presented here are not quite ready for prime time. What a disappointment.
- I did not like the versions of the songs on this set.
They seemed canned. I rate it very poor.

- Not only do I remember Hedgehoppers Anonymous, but it was a title search for "It's Good News Week" that led me to this collection in the first place! The song, written and produced by Jonathan "Everyone's Gone to the Moon" King -- the man who discovered Genesis, by the way -- it's a bouncy bit of pop protest that was actually banned in several states for containing a line about "butchering the sacred cow."
And I'm glad to have Spyder Turner's more obscure cover of Stand By Me as well. This is a tasty collection, friends.
- This is a greatest hits collection for baby boomers like me who were weaned on the Top 40 Hits of the 1960's. However,it is slightly flawed;like on Disc 1 there is the original (and best) version of Stand By Me by Ben E. King;yet on Disc 4 there is another version by Spyder Turner(!). Also does anyone out there actually remember the tune It's Good News Week by Hedgehoppers Anonymous?! Otherwise a fine collection of some of the best rock and pop hits ever.

- I really looked forward to this cd - the trouble is only one song out of all 3 cds is original (it even says so in the fine print by the copyright info). The rest are all lounge lizard type bad imitations of the originals. What really frosts me is that the ad and the packaging claim "performed by the original artists." It's dishonest - both to the consumer and the artists that originally recorded these songs. I would not have given it one star except that is the minimum rating!
- I awaited this CD set with great anticipation and I was shocked to discover that most of the songs were not the originally recorded ones. In fact, I have my doubts sure that they were even sung by the original artists. (although the CD covers state "original artists")I would love to know if others feel the same way.

- This is Luther's best album EVER! Period, End of Story! A timeless classic with not a weak or filler track included. His most complete work and one that you can go back to even now and enjoy over 20 years later.
- This is the most balanced of Luther's classic recordings. Every tune is extremely memorable and meaningful, and could have been a hit in its own right ala Thriller. The production, songwriting, and LV's voice are all in top form. Faves are the title track and 'The other side of the World'. Billy Preston's organ solo on 'Til my Baby comes home' is flat-out scorching, while Marcus Miller thumps his bass guitar ferociously on 'It's over now'. Its kind of surprising that this disc isn't included with his first three recordings as a collector's edition box set. I would buy that just because its Luther for goodness sake. Epic Records, are you listening? This is the last 'pure' R&B disc Luther did before he started recording the synth-and-drum machine laden cheesefests known as 'Give me the Reason', 'Any love', and 'Power of Love' that were obviously recorded for the sake of winning Pop music awards. Oh well, I still got love for LV. RIP...
- I love everything Luther ever made ,but if you want to see what made him great buy this cd.
- Wonderful way to end a long day with someone you love. He was one of a kind.
- By 1985 Luther Vandross was the premier ballader in R&B. This album spawned four Billboard R&B singles in "'Til My Baby Comes Home," "It's Over Now," "Wait for Love," and "If Only for One Night." It also featured "Creepin" but Luther's the best at ballads in particular If Only For One Night.
