5 comments about Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968.
- The Sonics, The Standells, The 13th Floor Elevators, etc... -Long before the modern "The" garage rock revival (think White Stripes, Black Keys, Strokes, Hives, & their ilk), these bands rocked rowdy American youths. This collection is essential! The companion booklet was a fascinating read. I know proudly claim The Choir, The Outsiders, & The Human Beinz as fellow Buckeye staters. Think of it as the beginning of a long, strange archeological dig. Hear The Premiers' "Farmer John" today & find yourself searching out the out-of-print 45rpm tomorrow. $40 for (4) discs? Yes, please!
- This box set is a must for 60's garage rockers. The sections represent the era well. They are also the original recordings. a delight to have in a collection of garage rock.
- There have been many classic albums that I would have loved to have listened to on their release but was too young: Led Zeppelin iv, Sgt Pepper, Dark Side of the Moon (you get the idea). However, I can imagine what that may have been like when I took a punt on this box set after seeing a great review in a British music magazine. Having not really heard music from this genre/era before it was an absolute revelation to me and took me to a new level in my appreciation of rock and pop. As a teenager in the late 70s in Britain I grew up with the punk ethos of the Pistols, Clash, Damned, Buzzcocks, X-Ray Spex etc... and found a similar vibe in the music on this box set. As with the other Nuggets compliations you get a real impression that this has been lovingly and painstakingly put together by people who really know the music. So as you can guess I cannot recommend this too highly. If you don't know this stuff you're in for a treat, it'll be a thoroughly welcome addition both to your collection and your musical knowledge.
- I first heard this collection on vynl in the early 80's and when I wanted to once again hear and now own it, I was so happy to find it on Amazon and for such a great price. The CD's the shipping everything was and is excellant
- The original Nuggets album was released in 1972, and was a compilation album of rock and pop songs from the mid to late '60s by groups that weren't popular enough to merit their own "greatest hits" album. The album actually proved to be very influential, drawing attention to forgotten and never known groups from the era. This four disc box set features the original album in it's entirety as Disc One, plus three other discs of similar material. Many of the songs here were hits "back in the day", usually by groups that never had another hit. There are also a number of obscure songs that were not hits at all. Most of the songs are presented in the original mono single version, although a few of them are in stereo. Most of the songs here are are great, and the few that aren't great are interesting curios. This is an essential purchase for fans of '60s rock music.

5 comments about What It Is! Funky Soul And Rare Grooves (1967-1977).
- This is the best funky soul music compilation ever!
I read an excellent review in some magazine and
decided it would be a great present for my husband.
I'm not exaggerating: it's probably the best funk/soul compilation ever!
Already the CD box is beautifully designed, lots of great information and trivia and photos.
The songs are very well selected: you go from one track to the other and it's a very mellow swift. Usually other music compilations have just a few good tracks and the other stuff is annoying.
But this is honestly amazing!
- I've been collecting vintage funk for over ten years, and this set is a one-stop shop for the Padwan funk enthusiast or a seasoned connoisseur. If you like it raw with a great backbone and big horns, this is the place to get it.
I can't get enough of this set. I've been listening to it non-stop for over a week and I'm still surprised and delighted by every track. Can't say enough about it. If you're on the fence, TRUST ME and take the plunge. It's actually a huge bargain for the price.
- Not a bad track in the bunch, and several gems on each disk. Some amazing horn players are mixed into these sessions (e.g. Clark Terry on trumpet -- quite a surprise! -- and Herbie Mann on flute). And many, many great horn sections. Everyone who grew up in the 70's has heard these amazing players, but few know their names. Take the time to read the excellent supporting information and change that situation!
- This set's four discs full of the best obscurities in the vaults of various Warner-distributed record label vaults.
Treasures truly abound, leaving one to wonder why these songs weren't hits. Dig Sly Stone's Stone Flower productions of 6IX and Little Sister. The legendary Baby Huey and the Babysitters are here with their brilliant Curtis Mayfield-penned anthem "Hard Times". Ravi Shankar's nephew Ananda is here with his '70 freakout cover of the Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Dr. John's "Rite Away" is the fonky follow-up hit he should have had after "Right Place, Wrong Time". The Bar-Kays' debut single, "Soul Finger", proves just how much of a loss the original group was (two-thirds of the group perished alongside Otis Redding in 1967). Each song is a beauty, and the obscurities do get truly obscure. It's an ideal and essential box set to anybody who has an interest in soul and funk music.
If you didn't hear it the first time around (and you probably didn't), here's your chance to get down to some of the funkiest music you've ever heard! It's a refreshing change from the stale old sounds you've heard ten thousand times before.
- Although mostly instrumentals, WHAT IT IS! FUNKY SOUL AND RARE GROOVES cd box set is a collection of some of the most funkiest grooves I've ever heard.
Jam after jam, the four cds provide non-stop beats that just don't let up. You'll be bobbin' that head and swinging those hips, thinking you're in a blaxploitation film.
If you like old school soul and funk, like the soundtracks to FOXY BROWN and COFFY, than this is the cd set for you.
Despite most of the tracks being instrumentals, there's also plenty of vocalists featured here on songs like "Cajun Moon"-Cissy Houston/Herbie Mann, "Moon Shadow"-LaBelle, "Improve"-Darrow Fletcher, "Goin Down"-Allen Toussaint, "Feelin' Alright"-Lulu, "Hang On In There"-The Stovall Sisters...just to name a few.
Also included is the mother of all funk songs "Rock Steady" by Aretha Franklin. In an alternative mix that brings up the hooks, the background singers, and Aretha wailing "...steady" before slowing down to a crawl, this "Rock Steady" really let's you know what it is and gives new meaning to the word friction!
The four cds are in cardboard sleeves, I guess to replicate album/record jackets, and comes with a book that explains the artist/history/trivia of each song, along with an introduction to the set by Oliver Wang. There's also photos of the artists and pictures of some of the album covers, and the set comes in a sturdy-thick cardboard box(it almost feels like wood) shaped in a perfect square.

5 comments about The Hits/The B-Sides.
- i have been looking for this cd for months, got it really fast and i just can`t stop listening to it'!
- The Past, Present, and Anticipating the Future.
This collection of Prince's greatest hits is without a doubt still his best, even though he has released 3 others in its wake.
The Hits include all of Prince's Top 40 hits and then on a 3rd disc introduces the B-sides that were born from his incredible top 40 hits. B-sides allow the listener to understand how Prince's music was created and how the Era's in which he created his music transformed his artistically.
Prince's music have become a microscope into his life. The Hits cover his emergence as a pop star, His reign at the top of the charts, and finally Prince straying away from the commerical world of music to a more artistic rare form that could teach today's musical youth a lesson in blazing trails rather than just strolling along one someone else created.
The Hits is a chronical of music that will forever stand the test of time in a forever changing world of music.
- It may not be a definitive portriat of his overall career since he produced many great songs(if not albums) after this box set was released but, the hits and B sides does a stellar job of capturing most of the best songs he did during his prime period
Disc one contains what people expect "When Doves Cry", "1999", "Diamonds and Pearls" etc. What makes this box set worth owning is the second and third disc. In my opinion, the second disc contains the songs that cemented his status as the eccentric genius of pop music in the 1980's with racy songs like "Dirty Mind", "Head", "If I was your Girlfriend", etc. The first disc is great and contains some of the most inventive pop songs ever produced but the rauchier second disc contains the songs that made every Prince album an event in the 1980's. Take away the rauchiness and you're left with "another pop artist" who made great songs but have no personality (like George Michael). His sexier side is what made him unique. With sexier x rated songs presenting a flipside to his accessible pop songs, he's a artist shrounded in mystery and worth a million analysis! He's a pure legend because if it and without the second disc, casual fans wouldn't be aware of the mystery that gave him longetvity.
The B Sides disc (disc 3) is pretty cool if not great. It doesn't measure up to the quality of the first two discs but, hidden gems like "She's always in my Hair", "[..] Toad", and "Erotic City" makes the disc worth checking out. If the first disc presents Prince as a inventive Pop craftsman, and the second disc showcases Prince's sexier side, then the thrid disc defines his experiemental side. At times the experimentations paid off and sometimes they didn't - making the B sides disc less consistent than the first two, but enjoyable nonetheless.
This is not a bad place to start to hear one of the best mainstream artist in pop music history. What would've made this boxset better was for them to extended it to a extra disc to include more album tracks rather than just include the hits. Since the quality of Prince music took a nosedive at the dawn of the 90's, this is the best place to hear the purple one at his most fruitful and colorful.
- It took the morality police a few days after the Super Bowl to catch back up with Prince. I guess he has been operating too far under the radar for the MP's to remember that back in the day he was one of their biggest targets.
But even the younger MP's have to recall that Prince became a music icon back in the 1980s, when neo-conservatism ran amuck through art. Prince had the courage to push back and this classic set shows his genius as hit after hit after hit - and a few surprises - are showcased in the 56 tracks.
The third disc of B-sides is full of rare songs that make the box set well worth the price. Not only is Prince a prolific artist, he made the singles a must for fans who wanted material not found on albums. Many of the cuts show Prince's wry sense of humor. My favorites include 200 Balloons, Shockadelica, How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore and Another Lonely Christmas.
Pop Life is my favorite song, but discs one and two deliver elegance - Nothing Compares 2 U - collaborations, Alphabet St (with Sheila E) and If I was Your Girlfriend (with Camille) & cuts that may have gotten lost in the wealth of output - Thieves In The Temple and Pope.
He dominated the music industry like few artists. And it looks like Prince and his guitar are ready again to shake things up and get the MP's all hot & bothered.
Maybe for next year's big game the NFL will play it safe and dust off ancient stadium rockers ZZ Top, with the hope that the 8-track tape they'll be lip-syncing to won't snap in the equally antique machine.
- Prince is a musical genius.
2 words...BUY IT. You will not regret this purchase.

5 comments about Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration.
- This is a very good CD of all the artist who is soul. If you want a soulalbum of all the Staxartists....keep it...maybe there are a couple of tracks that aren't 100 % .But I love this album! It's so much feeling for me.
- This is a very good selection, and it all sounds good- it's a good remastering job all the way through.
- After seeing a 2-hour program on Stax records on PBS, I think, I simply had to get this 2 CD set. It was a bargain and well worth it.
- If you don't care one way or another, "The Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration" will be a quite welcome addition to your collection. I hold back one star for the business end of things, because yet again on a fine compilation, we are given the 45 edits instead of the complete versions of songs. The ONLY time in the past this was not so was on a 1986 JAPANESE Stax comp, which being that it was mastered in the age of CD's infancy, means that it is inferior sonically to what they could do today. I probabbly wouldn't have bought this had I known ahead of time that it contained edits, but like I said before, if you don't care, what is here certainly is worth it as an introduction or as an addition to one's collection. I just wish record companies would stop being scumbags instead of revering the music as it was recorded and meant to be heard, rather than holding up versions of songs snipped to get more airplay.
- When I was at the University of Florida in the mid-60's, this was the music we danced to. I'm sure it was popular all over the south, but when you have the history of Stax records which includes Otis Redding, Sam and Dave and many others you've got a great soundtrack for a keg party. Stax was an important chapter in soul music history. This marvelous collection features 50 cuts, about half which I was not familiar with, but they're all good. But how you deny cuts like: Hold On I'm Comin' and Soul Man by Sam & Dave, Tramp by Otis Redding and Carla Thomas (I just can't sit still when I hear that one), Knock on Wood by Eddie Floyd, Respect by Otis Redding (he wrote it too) and Dock of The Bay, Mr. Big Stuff, I'll Take You There (Staple Singers) and Rufus Thomas' Walkin' The Dog. I remember seeing him on campus with a soul show and he came out ( a big man about 250 pounds in a bright orange suit) just wailing away and moving and a groovin' on stage. What have you got to lose? You've got 50 soul gems, a neat booklet with photos, recording dates etc. Don't forget most of these guys in the band were the same guys that backed up The Blues Brothers in the movie and album. They are legendary musicians too. What a deal. A must for any student of soul or pop culture history. And a great background for your next keg party or whatever.

5 comments about Like, Omigod! The '80s Pop Culture Box (Totally).
- its a very good and almost complete 80's colletion.
there is a few songs not important or famous.
the box is pretty and the book its interesant.
- As a child of the 80's I really enjoyed hearing all of the songs in this box set. The box set really showcases all of the one-hit-wonders that seemed to make up top 40 radio in the 80's: Kajagoogoo, Bow Wow Wow, Taco, The Fixx, etc. Most of the decade's major stars are absent, but I'm sure one Madonna, Michael Jackson or Prince tune would have cost way too much to license. If you love 80's music, you will enjoy this box set, that is if you don't already own most of these tunes.
My problem with the box set is that it doesn't differentiate itself from so many countless others that are available. I picked this box set up after listening to Rhino's "Have a Nice Decade: 70's Box Set". The 70's box featured about 4 or 5 soundbites per disk wedged between songs. The scope of music found of the 70's box set was fantastic, and the various styles presented kept my attention. The Newscasts and soundbites, the variety really captured the flavor of the 70's. You won't find this in the 80's box set. The tunes presented in the 80's set are basically all Top 40 hits, and really doesn't scratch the surface of the music scene in the 80's. Where is Siouxsie and the Banshees, where are The Dead Milkmen, where is Morris Day and the Time? I like the hits, but let's face it, I don't need another copy of "Tainted Love" or "Take on Me" which are readily available on almost any 80's best of CD.
The booklet that comes with the box set has some decent info, but why does it start off with an essay that is so critical of the decade? Instead of celebrating the Reagan years, we get a diatribe about "greed" and how shallow and dismal the decade was???? Buyers of this box set probably have fond memories of the time this set represents...why have such a negative essay start things off? The song by song rundown is good, as is the timeline running along the bottom of the booklet which points out key events of the decade.
I guess in the long run it boils down to if you don't have these tunes, this is a handy collection to pick them all up in one shot, but if you already have plenty of 80's cds in your collection..you may want to pass as there really isn't anything new here.
- Although this set has a good selection of 80's music i don't feel it included a lot of songs that are better than what it has. I really like the 70's version of this set though.
- Some of my downloads from Kazaa sound better than the songs on this collection. I doubt that Rhino used the master tapes for this set as most songs have serious imperfections. That's a shame because the songs selection is very good. After listening to three or four songs, my ears start ringing. This collection is probably more suitable for car listening on long trips. For this reason I will never buy another Rhino collection. Period.
- Well, like many of the reviewers, this set has lots of well known songs, but many tracks are not worth the price.
I have been collecting 80's songs via iTunes for a few years now. I have 7 discs that I made myself of 80's hits. A lot of this set included. I, however, was able to skip downloading Don Johnson, Billy Crystal and many of those random, unwanted songs that have been mentioned.
When I am finished with my "Ultimate 80's Box Set" I will have about 15 discs of all the songs I remember hearing during those long bus rides to and from school in the 1980's. Of course, I listen on an iPod, so I don't need the discs anymore.
My rule of thumb is if it is made by "Rhino" don't bother. It will be overpriced, poorly constructed, poorly compiled, poor quality, not remastered and you'll eventually be left feeling ripped off.
Go to iTunes. I have only had a few songs not come up so far. Some of those have eventually made it to iTunes. If you can't find it there, just wait...it won't take long.

5 comments about Hitsville USA: The Motown Singles Collection 1959-1971.
- After visitng the Motown Museum, this complilation of hits was just what we needed for great memories. Takes one back to their dancing days!
- I was a little torn about whether to purchase this box set. I already own many of the cuts. But there are so many great songs from the time when I was a huge Motown fan that I decided to get it. Putting all the hits (and not just the most familiar) together makes for a fun collection. It is great to listen to while at work or on the road.
- The Motown Hits Collection is absolutely marvelous! It is a varied collection of memories and history of music in the 60's and 70's from the African-American perspective. It is music for those who enjoy excellent musical arrangements, clear and wholesome lyrics, and music that is filled with love and inspiration from the Motown writers, arrangers, and singers. Above all, it is tribute to Barry Gordy who founded Motown when our world was in racial and political turmoil. He reached in and made some sense of it all. Thanks to him, Smoky Robinson, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Ashford and Simpson, The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terell, Kim Weston, Mary Wells, Brenda Holloway, The Marvelettes, Martha and The Vanellas, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, The Temptations, Gladys Knight and The Pips, Diana Ross, and many others for making this magnificant music that we have today. This music is timeless and universal. It's guaranteed to please, to soothe, to stimulate, to conjure up memories, and to entertain your deepest sense of pleasure. Sit back, quiet your mind, listen, snap your fingers, stomp your feet as you journey into a galaxy of historical and musical delight.
- This set was PURPOSELY mastered in all mono, for the uninformed complainers among you! These are the tracks THE WAY THEY WERE ORIGINALLY RELEASED AND THE WAY YOU STILL HEAR THEM ON THE RADIO TODAY!
Motown had been releasing stereo versions of these songs on CD for YEARS starting in about 1985-86. Many customers complained that those were NOT the versions they had remembered hearing, in the 1960s OR the 1980s (on oldies radio). The artists' voices sounded wrong, for one thing. That's because the stereo versions were usually NEW recordings made with the artist RE-SINGING the song--and they sounded different--not the way we remembered. So, Motown in 1992 brought in top remastering engineers to go through the original tapes and re-master the original hits, the way they were originally cut, as SUNG originally.
This set represents the fruit of those efforts, and it is SUPERB. The mono recordings at all times have more punch than the stereo verions, since the stereo cuts were made for albums compiled LATER. The stereo effect itself was often a phony "stereo-like" dilution only, not true stereo. The true hit versions are what you hear on this unrivaled set.
The complaining reviewers here simply have no idea about the history of this set, which was a MAJOR project undertaken to bring back the best and ACTUAL sound, period.
My only concern . . . "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye was, as I recall, the name of a song and its album. It was released on the album first, hence the mono version on this boxed set (which isn't as smooth and is more "funky" to me), was the afterthought version. While mono, it's NOT the original, so I don't see why it's here.
Otherwise, the only omission of real substance on this set appears to be some of the early Supremes hits . . . though, to me, if anything has been overplayed for years, those were the songs, and hence were the best choice to be omitted.
This set is the definitive Motown box set, ESPECIALLY CONCERNING AUDIO QUALITY. Those who desire stereo are just asking for the inferior versions. And those versions were available for years, because the Motown executives interviewed in the early 1990s indicated that they thought (wrongly) that stereo would be preferred on CD, even at the expense of having the true hit versions. They admitted their error, sought to correct it, and this project is the end result.
- HITSVILLE USA is a box set that's clearly marked as a SINGLES COLLECTION-- that means these 104 tracks are in the original monaural sound. If you're looking for stereo mixes, this isn't the collection for you. That issue aside, the only real criticism of the album is one of programming-- songs tend to be clustered by artist or group. Perhaps a more thorough shuffle was in order.
Each CD jewel case is fronted with a repro of a Gordy Co. label, including one of the very first MOTOWNs, which was pale pink in color. The accompanying 68-page long box book is quite comprehensive. Recording dates for all songs and chart positions are given. There's lots of great photos; artists and groups are given a few pages of bio each. This HITSVILLE USA four-CD box set is fairly extensive, and about all you'd ever need in a compilation of MOTOWN 45s.
TOTAL RUNNING TIMES --
DISC ONE -- 76:10
DISC TWO -- 75:21
DISC THREE -- 77:09
DISC FOUR -- 74:10

- This CD box set is definitely worth the money!! My 2-year old godson loves it as well!! He runs to get his "mike" and groove to the funky sounds of Mr. Wonder... He even turns up the volume and gets me up to dance with him. It's gonna be a great asset at the family reunion this year with everyone humming, singing along, dancing and reminiscing as I have been since the day I received it in the mail. I'm gonna end this as I began it.... Definitely worth the money!!!!
- A lot of people will give an item on Amazon 5 stars because they think it's a good cd, dvd, book, what have you. For the At The Close Of The Century box set however, I was reminded of past teachers in third or fourth grade that would never give anyone a 100 because "nothing is perfect." This box set might be the exception to that rule.
The set covers the entire career one of the greatest minds in the history of American music from his Little Stevie Wonder days to the new millennium. Included in the first disc are some of his break-through hits like "Fingertips" and "Uptight", as well as some rare cuts like "Until You Come Back To Me," a song you're probably familiar with, but not coming from Stevie's voice. The disc concludes with one of my all-time favorite Stevie songs, "I Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer" and a couple very underrated tracks from the album Music Of My Mind.
Discs two and three are essentially a complete collection of the "golden era" of Stevie Wonder. All the songs you love from Innervisions, Talking Book, Songs In The Key Of Life, and Fulfillingness' First Finale. One omission I was very upset about was "Please Don't Go" from Fulfillingness, another of my all time favorites. This is a very minute problem, however as the rest of the set more than makes up for a lack of one personal favorite song.
Disc four has all of his "modern" hits. Some big fan favorites like "Ribbon In The Sky" and "I Just Called To Say I Love You" are on here, as well as some of his hip hop-esque experiments like "Skeletons" and "Gotta Have You" that will take you aback. The song "For Your Love" is a forgotten cut from Conversation Peace, but holds up with a wonderful, powerful chorus.
Simply put, you have about 70 songs and over 5 hours of legendary material. I love the fact that it's presented chronologically as it really shows the growth of one of the most important figures in American history. With the exception of a few songs on the fourth disc, all of the songs have completely stood the test of time and this set will be the cornerstone of your entire music collection. All I ask is you also get your hands on the song "Please Don't Go" to truly complete the set.
- If you are a true Stevie Fan this is a must have... It has hits from little stevie and BIG STEVIE... I brought this for my mother and she goes into a zone. It is priced just right and it is well worth it... It has over or close to 80 different songs!
- Stevie Wonder is a true icon in the world of music. Each of his songs has touched our lives in one way or another. This box set signifies his place in the annals of music. To sum it up, AT THE CLOSE OF A CENTURY, highlights almost forty five years of music that has created so many memories. I may be 25 years old, but I can honestly say that I am one of Stevie Wonder's lifelong fans. All of my favorite songs are on this album, especially My Cherie Amour, Uptight(Everything is Alright), Yesterday, and of course Overjoyed. Stevie Wonder, keep blessing us with your music.
- I purchased this item over a month ago. I've always loved Stevie's work, but I never really got a chance to ever purchase this cd set. I sooo love it, and I havent even played all of them yet. It has all of my fave songs on there, and songs I didnt even know were Stevies (because i heard them sung by another artist before I got this cd). It's an awesome cd, and I would recommend to any Stevie fan, especially if you never got a chance to get all or any of his music.

5 comments about '80s Pop Hits.
- I bought this CD BoxSet awhile ago at Best Buy as being a number of these are that I had a sneaking suspiscion on what these songs truly sound like. I do,however remember the "Let's Hear It For The Boy" since I have seen "FootLoose" hundreds of times and it's still a favorite in which the song was from. I also remember "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" that indeed is questionary on if it's a love song or a depressing "break-up song?" Ah,and there was my personal
favorite..."Eternal Flame" in which I find to be full of emotion and true love as this is what love songs should truely be like to begin with!! Let's not forget the pop group that was extremely popular with teens
(And myself when I was much younger.)"way back when in the old school" called none other than the
ever-so-famous The New Kids On The Block!! I didn't care for some of the songs on this CD set, unfortunately as that is partially why I give this item a 4 stars.
Not to change the subject on this fabulous item(Okay,I lied.)but I lost 2 of the 3 CD's because I believe they got stolen since my ex-boyfriend used them last...that is,if memory serves me. Oh well, perhaps I might consider buying a whole spanking new copy to
"get even" with him since he'd have 2 used CD's while I'd have all 3 CD's being new!! Ha,ha,ha,he,he,he!! I love it!!! However, all I must say(Yeah right, you're all probably tired of me chit-chatting for quite some time now...)I must make the comment: "NICE PRICE!!!!" I was born in 1981 so I'm somewhat familiar with 80's music. I personally prefer Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in which I found to be a total bummer not to include herself and her band...I MEAN,WHO HASN'T HEARD OF THE SONG CALLED "I LOVE ROCK 'N ROLL?!!" Also, another favorite I like is "Search Is Over" from Survivor since it's the song that played during a Junior High dance that I went to with an ex-boyfriend(He wasn't my "ex" when we were at the dance, though.)as "Search Is Over" was the song playing when I got MY FIRST KISS EVER!!!! Sigh...I guess you can't have 'em all...EVEN ON THE POKE'MON VIDEO GAMES IS IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO "CATCH 'EM ALL!!" GO FIGURE,HUH? GREAT PRODUCT,ANYWAYS. RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE WHOM EITHER GREW UP IN THE 80'S OR ENJOY 80'S MUSIC FOR SHEER ENJOYMENT...BE CAREFUL,80'S MUSIC WERE ALL A COMPLETE "SELL-OUT" BUT AT LEAST IT WASN'T AS "CORNY" AS SOME OF THOSE 70'S AND 80'S CARTOONS THAT KIDS WATCHED WHEN THEY WERE ALL YOUNG,THOUGH. A MUST BUY!!! ^_^

- I LOVE '80s music (I grew up in that era), but only about half of the songs on this CD are among my favorites from that era. The other half of the songs, I either tolerated back then or didn't like at all. I've seen better '80s collections. (Also, there should have been more hard rock/heavy metal hits included, as many of those songs were grouped in with the pop hits on many radio stations back then. )
- I recall very few of these hits from the 80s. There may be one or two that I know on each of the three CDs. This is not the fault of the CD publisher--It's MY fault for not reading the song lists more closely before I ignorantly hit the "buy" button. Make sure this CD is going to provide the 1980s sound YOU remember before you buy.
- Most of the tracks on the first disc alone warrant purchasing it at the price offered...however, the second two discs could've been whittled-down to a few tracks that could've replaced some of the softer offerings on Disc One and it would've been one monster CD...still, the wheat can be burned from the chaff on one's mp3/I-Pod, I suppose.
- Any 80's music lover will be happy to have this collection! The selection is perfect. I just love it.

- Although considerably overpriced at $70 list, Amazon had this on sale for about $40 and that is a hell of a bargain. Great music and great sound for the era and then some. Rhino excels at this sort of thing and this is no exception. If you like doo-wop, keep an eye out for the next sale- or splurge if you can afford it.
- I purchased this collection for my father after watching a special on tv featuring the golden era. As I began to listen more to the songs, I realized that I enjoyed the CD's as much as he did. It is a very well put together collection that will satisfy many listeners. There was even a song that my 7 year old recognized from a kids' movie! He loved it and wanted me to keep playing it. The book that accompanies the 4 cd's is a very entertaining history of how the era all came together. Definitely a great purchase.
- Like the cover says, this box features "101 Vocal Group Gems From The Golden Age of Rock 'N' Roll". My dictionary defines doo wop as "a vocal style of rock and roll characterized by the a cappella singing of nonsense syllables in rhythmical support of the melody". That's as good a definition as any, but there isn't really a consensus as to what songs qualify as "doo wop". The first disc includes early groups like the Orioles, the Drifters and the Platters that aren't usually considered doo wop, but were big influences on the doo wop groups. Regardless of what is or isn't doo wop, these are terrific vocal group recordings. Most of them were hits, but there are also many obscure gems included. This box is a "must get" for fans of the vocal group sound.
- What a great box set...sooo many good songs. And, I especially like the feature that Amazon gives us the ability to listen to the actual song!
- This was too good a buy. It has almost EVERY GREAT HIT from it's era! Songs like "Maybe" and "Devil or Angel" just relax me to the fullest. Do you love Doo-Wop? Then BUY THIS BOX SET!

- The first song Purple Haze was the same arrangement Jimi Hendrix did when I saw him in 1967. What an incredible compilation. Exceptional for any Jimi Hendrix collector!
- I bought this boxed set after my old Hendrix CD's mysteriously disappeared. I thought the set would replace the classic albums, but every track is an alternate version. With the exception of a "Star Spangled Banner" (which bears NO resemblence to the awesome Woodstock version) the cuts make acceptable -- and occasionally superior -- substitutes for the classic Hendrix hits.
- This is a must have it you like Jimi Hendrix. This set includes studio songs and several unreleased live songs, which I have never heard before. Included is a 79 page book loaded with pictures and information on the band. This is one of the best CD sets that I have ever purchased and added to my collection. Enjoy.
- you are a timeless legend jimi!!! you are the god of the electric guitar!!! and furthermore you will always rock!!!
