- There is, simply, no better singer of the "standard" than Julie London.
Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald may be magnificent, but give me JL, please. Her taste is exquisite, if she hasn't recorded it, it is probably not worth recording.
Like the other great artists of the world, she has made one great song her very own, "Cry Me a River." And what a great and beautifully arranged song that is. I am sure Barney Kessel is delighted that she chose him as her main accompanist for what is a true popular classic.
Could anyone do "I'll Remember April" or "Little White Lies" better? I don't think so, but these are just three gems among gems.
- Here, in three superb discs, you have the VERY BEST of JULIE! Short, Sweet, and Neat! One Box! All her Hits! A Great Low Price! (But, I see, sadly, no longer in print!)
If you are unable to locate or obtain a copy of this set, by all means, DO go for the double album "The Wonderful World Of/The End of The World" from EMI, which contains many of the songs here on this box set.
Certainly, one of the finest singers of all time, Julie London belongs on your shelves of music, if you truly love great ballads and love songs...NOBODY (even including Peggy Lee) had the "Come Hither and Listen to Me" that Julie had. After all these years, and all these hearings, I still fall, willingly, under her spell, time and time again...what a Great Entertainer she was. If you can, get yourself a copy of this set, you will be forever glad you did! Enjoy! ~operabruin
- Julie London's voice is one of the greatest. Add that she was an actress and a stunningly beautiful bombshell and ask why isn't she better known, even revered. Just listen to this CD and you may revere her too. She was known as having the 'come hither' voice, and there is an intimacy and warmth in her songs that shames countless better known singers. This is a great collection, and I heartily recommend it to anyone who likes the songs from the era of Sinatra, and Dean Martin.

3 comments about Complete Peggy Lee & June Christy Capitol Transcription Sessions.
- If you are on this page you need no encouragement about the quality of Peggy Lee or June Christy. These recordings are sensational as are all Mosaic recordings. What I am stunned to see are the prices being asked as these recordings, as of todays date, are still very much available from the Mosaic label, all five disks sell for 80 bucks brand new and unopened. Go to their website rather than paying what is being asked here. While you are there look around, they have some truly amazing releases, not cheap for sure, but worth every penny. The sound restoration is unbeatable.
- This collection is a masterpiece for Peggy & June's fans. Although all the tracks are from the early days of both singers, the sound is a miracle.
Peggy Lee's sessions are the most intimate she did in her career. In many moments she sounds like a 'white' Billie Holiday with Dave Barbour on guitar. She sang quiet and her voice is clear, sensual, with a superb jazz feeling. June Christy's tracks are almost the same. I'm glad to know everybody can to buy this box-set in Amazon. The black and white boxes from Mosaic was an exclusive choices for aficionados. All Mosaic's release are outstanding, so don't miss this Peggy & June's moments to eternity.
- Sound quality good--- Mosaic Records (Capitol)
If you are a Peggy Lee and June Christy fan? You will enjoy this box set. All early years. With The Dave Barbour Quartet, Frank DeVol Orchstra for P.L. Also The Kentones for J. C.

5 comments about Bridge Over Troubled Water.
- This album is the last regular album Simon and Garfunkel put together before their break-up. I received this album on cassette and then on CD. This album is better in its original format instead of the new editions with new covers and artwork (2001 edition). My uncle has this on vinyl. Bridge Over Troubled Water is a classic.
- How exquisite are the two most celebrated songs from 'Bridge Over Troubled Water,' Simon and Garfunkel's greatest album and worthy of a top ten list of pop/rock music. "The Boxer" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" deserve their reputation for their hair-raising excellence. The build up, the beautiful vocals, and the orchestration are magnificent. Less heralded is the album's versatality. The exotic rhythms of "El Condor Pasa" and "Cecilia" are expert. Then, there are the quieter gems, like "Farewell to Frank Lloyd Wright," the tender "The Only Living Boy in New York," and the closer "Song for the Asking". Simon and Garfunkel aren't simply substantial, they are playful masters. They ably incorporate jazz with "Keep the Customer Satisfied," complete with excellent lyrics that concicely evoke themes from 'Death of a Salesman'. They even have the irreverence to poke fun by wearily blurting out "Enough, already!" after their tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright. (Maybe it was all allegory and tongue-in-cheek anyway, but it works well in any case.) Not only are they playful with "Cecilia," but with the lively "Baby Driver" and "Why Don't You Write Me". They even have a super live version of "Bye Bye Love," as if they were lacking any confidence.
'Bridge Over Troubled Water' is easily a top ten pop/rock classic of all time. It isn't just filled with ethereal classics; it has all the components of a remarkably varied masterpiece.
- Ok for years, (yes it's true) i haven't really liked this album. For one thing i had only heard bits and pieces, and never fully sat down, put on the headphones and just put it on. So i did that. I found it to be really good, better than i had first thought, but! but! i found it sort of...overrated. It simply isn't s and g's best, no sir. The only living boy in New York is, simply put, absolutely beautiful. It flows, and is majestic. But a live version of bye bye love is not only out of place, but truly not a good song. I found that selection of song really dissapointing. Bridge over Troubled water is of course emotional, and one of their best songs, but unfourtunately alot of s and g's previous beauty i found to be gone, mostly lost. Ok so it won some grammy's, so what? U2 won some grammy's for the least creative, most overrated album of the year. Awards mean zip. The album is just peppered with too much staleness, but thanks to 5 or 6 good songs, manages to redeem itself. The songs that lack true grit are not awful, they are still ok, and listenable, but i don't think they are superb. Check out Bookends instead.
- More than three decades later this album still reveals its treasures with every listen. It's the absolute highlight of the folk-influenced or singer/songwriter genre that emerged in the 1960s. The greatness of the songs are proved by the many cover versions that they inspired: Bridge much be one of the most covered songs on earth - the versions by Aretha Franklik and Linda Clifford immediately come to mind. El Condor Pasa has exotic Andean flute and Cecilia is a naughty, uptempo song that became a dance hit again in the 1980s by some obscure disco singer. Songs like The Boxer and Bye Bye Love are sheer poetry, I mean lyrically and in their flowing melodies and the beautiful blend of the voices. This album remained in the album charts for many years after its original release and one listen will show you the reason why. Poetic, intelligent lyrics set to heavenly melodies characterise these outstanding songs to make the album a timeless classic.
- First of all, I must admit that I've only recently become a Simon & Garfunkel's fan . I mean,my dad has had albums by this fantastic duo since I was very little, but I only stopped to listen to them carefully in the last three years or so. However, S&G have become, little by little, one of my trully favourite bands - and obviously my favourite duo.
OK, now let's move to "Bridge Over Troubled Water", then. I've bought it less than a week ago, but it was enough to discover that it's an amazing album. I've heard many people complaining about it not being very homogeneous, and I'm affraid they're right: it's not homogeneous at all. I wonder, though: does that really matter? Take the tittle track, for example: simply gorgeous, probably THE song about friendship, loyalty and self-sacrifice. It always gives me goose bumps, no matter how many times I listen to it. Take then "The Boxer" - it's just so moving. Take "Cecilia", certainly not a "calm" song like the other two I mentioned above, but still great. Actually, take the entire album and you'll see - listen, actually - how great it is. And you'll regret deeply that after this Simon and Garfunkel went separate ways. This was their Grand Finale and I couldn't imagine anything better to close their short, yet powerful, career.

- How could a box set not have Southern Night's. By far campbell's best song, I was disappointed not to find this great title among the box set.
- A word of caution to buyers:
While this collection may look enticing for its unbeatable price and comprehensive song listings, the disc quality leaves much to be desired. This is a Disky disc made in the EU. Static and hiss can be heard at certain points, most noticeably during one of my favourite songs - If You Could Read My Mind. Unless you can ignore the audio problems, I would not recommend this item.
- Glen Campbell has for long been associated with the work of Jim Webb, i.e. Galveston, Wichita Lineman, Where's The Playground Susie, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, etc. (Strangely, he hasn't Jim Webb's standout piece McArthur Park.)
One of the best voices in pop and country music, Glen Campbell shows his adeptness in both genres as he goes a little bit farther in this two-CD compilation. Here he sings with great gusto his signature song Gentle On My Mind, a great song that attempts to paint in words a great panoramic landscape as seen from within a person's wandering spirit. Coupled with the restless and flowing guitar accompaniment, Glen's performance of this song is one that I never get tire of hearing even after repeated playing. Other musical landmarks in pop and country music are represented here: Hank Williams' Your Cheating Heart and I Can't Help It; Kris Kristofferson's Help Me Make It Through The Night; Conway Twitty's It's Only Make Believe; the vastly popular hymn Amazing Grace; All I Have To Do Is Dream, a song originally brought into the mainstream years earlier by the Everly Brothers; and other popular hits like Together Again, My Special Angel, Take These Chains From My Heart, etc. All these songs are good and will stand the test of time. Given Glen Campbell's masterful treatment, they become great works of art.

1 comments about The Complete Sun Singles, Vol. 1.
- "The Complete Sun Singles Volume 1" is the first of six CD sets which collect all the single masters ("A" and "B" sides) released under Sam C. Phillips' Sun and Phillips International record labels. Sun fans should hear every volume in the collection; there's no better way to follow the rise and fall of Phillips' recordings. But for anyone familiar with the handful of Sun/Phillips International hits like "Blue Suede Shoes," "I Walk The Line," "Great Balls of Fire," and "Raunchy," and an interest in hearing more, only a few of the volumes are essential listening.
Volume 1 is essential. It covers Sun's Blues years (1952-1955), features Elvis Presley's five Sun releases, and showcases the roots of the musical amalgamation of Rhythm & Blues with Country & Western that first came together behind the walls of 706 Union Ave. in Memphis, Tennessee to create Rock and Roll. Also included are all the songs released on the short-lived Sun Records subsidiary, Fli! p. Although most listeners will be familiar with songs like Rufus Thomas' "Bear Cat (The Answer To Hound Dog)," Elvis' "That's All Right" and Johnny Cash's "Cry, Cry, Cry," they shouldn't overlook the great recordings of Joe Hill Louis, James Cotton, Doug Poindexter and Charlie Feathers, as well as the first two singles by Carl Perkins, that are also in this volume. The nature of "The Complete Sun Singles Collection" says it all: if it was released under the Sun or Phillips International label, it will be on one of the collection's six volumes. With that sort of criteria, the listener can expect to hear some songs which would otherwise have no place on any collection (take a listen to Buddy Cunningham's "Right Or Wrong" on Volume 1!), as well as others which ought to appear more frequently (Charlie Feathers' "I've Been Deceived"). Of the sets in "The Sun Singles Collection," Volume 1 stands out as one of the best, a thoroughly listenable collection for Su! n enthusiasts and novices alike.
