  1. Different cover, but exact same track listing as the live 'Fistful Of Alice' CD(see my review).Pretty much most if not all the hits are here, plus two of what I consider to be deep album cuts,Alice's own personal tribute to Jim Morrison "Desperado" and "Teenage Lament '74" off the 'Muscle Of Love' lp.Pretty much aimed at the completists.

1 comments about Live in Monterey.

  1. This recording is another deceptive repackaging of a CD that
has been repeatedly released over the last few years.
Some of the tracks actually are from Jefferson Airplane's
appearance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, but there are
also tracks taken from JA Takes Off, Surrealistic Pillow,
and Bless Its Pointed Little Head.

Adding insult to injury, three of the tracks -- What You're
Askin', Would You Love Me, and You're So Loose -- are by
the (who were they anyway?) Steel Riders.

3 comments about UFO - BBC The Archive Series: In Session and Live in Concert.

  1. Check out a more accurate review look under ( UFO BBC Radio Live in Concert) where I mentioned this great and rare CD,Chapman only shares the guitar with Schenker on four songs, too bad this CD is not available for now but if you are a UFO (schenker era) fan this is a must to have these songs are diferent versions than the ones on the albums,or look under my reviews!

  2. It's a lot of fun to hear the boys run through these songs without a lot of the distraction of background applause that live recordings bring. It doesn't match up to Strangers in the Night (nothing does) but there are times when this is the UFO disc that I'm looking forward to listening to when I get off work.

  3. This disk is a must have if you're are Michael Schenker fan.The first six tracks are live in the studio and the sound is superb. The rest of the cd is from live concerts, the first four of the live songs are from the same show that is on the BBC Radio 1 Live in Concert disk released in 1992 that has mostly Paul Chapman stuff.Great buy if you're into Michael Schenker.

4 comments about Time Pieces, Vol. 2: Live in the '70s.

  1. Thsi is actually a good live album. It may be a bit too easy listening for fans of Eric Clapton the guitar hero (especially considering the inclusion of Charles Chaplin's "Smile"), but the sound is excellent, and the musicianship is, too.

"Time Pieces II" is a pretty accurate representation of Eric Clapton in the 70s, starting of with Danny Flowers' country-flavouered southern boogie "Tulsa Time", followed by an excellent rendition of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door".

There's not too much blues on display here...only "Rambling On My Mind" would qualify as a genuine blues, whereas "Blues Power" is really a rock song, and Clapton's own "Presence Of The Lord", as well as Steve Winwood's classic "Can't Find My Way Home", are none of the above. But if you like Eric Clapton's seventies releases, you'll find something to like about "Live In The Seventies" as well.

The Budokan band especially is excellent, with some wonderful piano playing from keyboardist Chris Stainton producing one of the best-ever readings of "Blues Power". (The "George" that Clapton asks to play a solo during "Smile" is not George Harrison, even though it sounds a little like him, especially the first few bars of the solo. It's Clapton's excellent second guitarist George Terry.)

This is a fine album, unless you expect Eric Clapton to play nothing but the blues, of course. The eight songs are played with energy and conviction, the solos are great, and Clapton's vocals are strong. A good addition to your Clapton collection, and an album that I have continued to enjoy for well over a decade.

  2. the music in here is a sure 5 plus stars. it's one of my favorite live albums: you put this cd and LOVE every single song included, without having to skip not a single of them. Of course, this is the way E.C. is meant to be heard: live: with heart, inspired, jamming, you know, you've heard the man, you know what i'm talking about (at his best!). one of my favorite tracks in here is PRESENCE OF THE LORD. while all of the above remains true, one thing also does: i believe the "time pieces" is a "best-of series", so while it remains as one of my favorites, i think it's not aptly named. the reason: where is layla, cocaine......, if we are talking about a "best-of".

  3. Time Pieces Volume 2 is culled together from Eric Clapton's live albums Just One Night and E.C. Was Here. "Tulsa Time" was a top thirty hit in it the live form included here and is a good track. The standout track is his version of Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home" which is a blazing track. Decent stuff, but these songs can be found as part of better albums.

  4. Clapton's a great guitarist. He loves the blues. He's brilliant live. We know all this, and the album delivers all the above. If only there was a bit more cohesion between the tracks assembled. Still, it's from his brilliant 70s era, and there's not a clunker on here.

  1. This cd goes under rated. Yes the quality is halfway decent but no where near digitally remastered, and it only plays their biggest hits, but i think that this is still a good cd. They are a great live band, and this is a good cd to pick up if u just want to hear some deep purple live, since if you are a fan, you already know they are great. I recommend it just as a live cd to experiment with.

  2. The Cover states the Deep Purple Mark2 lineup.
Also states : Live In Europe & a doubleplay CD.

Any veteran listener will recognize assorted previously
released tracks from other DP recordings.

First off , it is a single CD.
The recent Smoke on the Water has Steve Morse on guitar.
David Coverdale appears on some old Made In Europe tracks.

Mark2 does appear on an old, subpar recording of Into The Fire.
Also, they are on a couple of tracks from the Made In Japan recording.

Every few years I'll buy a CD that demands a refund.
This one with it's deceptive labeling had numerous misrepresentation issues. Not a Mark2 recording , not Made In Europe , a single CD- not a doubleplay. Some questionable sound.
    I demanded & received a full refund.

There are plenty of Best Of Live releases of good quality that are accurately labeled. If you want a great Deep Purple show- get Made In Japan first. You can expand from there.

This one doesn't deserve a sale.

5 comments about Live at the Paradiso 1969.

  1. In the days when guitar distortion and feedback were all the rage, wot's a trio of Brit lads to do with only an organ, bass & drums?

Answer: turn everything up to 11 and fuzz the hell out it. Hugh says: "We used to wear earplugs, but there must be a lot of Softs fans out there with tinnitus by now." Amen! Maybe it's dedicated to you (or Hugh) and you WERE listening, but you're standing perfectly still in the deaf corner.

  2. WARNING SOFT MACHINE FANS. ALMOST ALL OF THIS CD IS ON THE ANTHOLOGY: MAN IN A DEAF CORNER ANTHOLOGY 1963-1970. that 2 cd set contains 1 cd of very early free jazz experiments and a 2nd. cd of live recordings including almost all of "live at the paradiso 1969". the music is of somewhat limited interest over all with the live recordings being much better than the free jazz. "live at the paradiso 1969" in particular reveals the missing saxophone (on this recording) as the key to their later success and drummer vocalist robert wyatt as the band's main talent. 3 and 1/2 stars.

  3. Live at the Paradiso is Soft Machine at their best! It captures what they were on stage, live. Keyboards, bass, vocals are all distorted. Keyboards careen out of control, playing at a frenetic pace. This is just an outstanding album from the Progressive Rock years. Live at the Paradiso is loud, raw, and straight out of the amps. This is my top pick from the Soft Machine catalog.

  4. This 1969 live recording documents the early, pre-fusion Softs performing their 2nd LP in concert. The performance is quite excellent though occasional technical difficulties like microphones cutting out, leading to some missing vocals, make it less than technically perfect; but that is what it's all about, a bare bones sound board tape re-ceating a real live gig without any touch ups. Recommended for serious Softs fans.

  5. I wonder if I will ever stop feeling old and decrepit, but these guys have reason to probably never do that. I have no idea where and when this concert was. I don't know anyone who has any idea of what they were doing that far back, but for some reason these guys ran the tape machine at just the right time, and recorded what now are their very young selves.

The result is brilliant. I can't put it any better than the other fan from Victoria - it's one continuous song, permuted and multiplied and divided, and never anything other than elegant.

Trouble is, it makes you rather sad that this just doesn't seem to happen any more. None of these guys were any older than 20 odd when this was done, and just listen to the pyrotechnics and imagination! Will we ever get that good? Will I? I doubt it... But thanks very, very much young fellas. Sure like to see you some day.

2 comments about Frampton Comes Alive!.

  1. To date, this is the biggest-selling live album of all-time. I went through two copies of this album, one cassette and one 8-track tape. As a destructive child,I removed the magnetic tape from the outer shell of the cassette. The 8-track tape was sold at a garage sale I had years ago. Peter Frampton was promoting FRAMPTON while recording this album. This album was released in early 1976,so this concert was recorded sometime the previous year. Frampton, late of Humble Pie,was driven to superstardom with this album. His 1977 follow-up I'M IN YOU,shows Frampton on the cover displaying his masculinity, thus making him a teen idol. This album spawned three hits,SHOW ME THE WAY,BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY and DO YOU FEEL LIKE I DO?. He covers the Jagger-Richards classic JUMPING JACK FLASH. I really love BABY(SOMETHING'S HAPPENING) which opens this album. Other electrifying live albums that I love are Bob Seger's LIVE BULLET and NINE TONIGHT,the Bee Gees' HERE AT LAST and ONE NIGHT ONLY,Billy Joel's SONGS IN THE ATTIC,KOHUEPT and 2000 YEARS:THE MILLENIUM CONCERT and Elton John's LIVE IN AUSTRALIA. When this album was released,Frampton was in the limelight with A&M Records labelmates The Captain & Tennille whose album LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER was on the pop/rock charts at the time as well. Many classic rock fans will love this album,if they don't already own it. When the compact disc became increasingly popular in the mid-80's,this album debuted on the CD. Because this was Frampton's all-time best-seller,none of his other albums were on CD back then. Now they're all available, digitally remastered,on CD,including this album. A 25th anniversary deluxe edition of this album was released in 2001.

  2. For a listner who first experienced rock and roll two decades after this double cd was published, I was pleastenly suprised by what I found in Frampton's music. The lyrics are a different story, serving only to weigh down what what otherwise be great rock instrumentals. Don't purchase it expecting Bob Dylan or Joni Mitchell; the best talking Frampton delivers comes from his guitar during the epic "Do you feel like we do." Do expect some of the best rock of the 70's, music that would move entire arenas even today
