  1. I will start by saying this is a very good live album! Mastering is great. BUT it is not on the same planet as ARE YOU READY.I can not believe the record companys will try to sell us a zillion greatest hits cds. But will not release ARE YOU READY !They could sell more copys of this live cd, then all of the Bullsh** hit cd !!!!!

  2. OK admittedly 1981 was the backside of the bands popularity. They had a few singles that broke, but most of us who were longtime fans felt like they had left something behind with the slickness of the songs like Do It or Die and Imaginary Lover and the departure of Robert Nix, who was a co-writer on so many of the bands classic songs. However, this disc shows a band that continues to burn hot while showing a high degree of professionalism

The disc starts of with Champagne Jam and Not Going to Let It Bother Me Tonight. Both are tight and provide an easy entry to the set. Songs like Homesick and Large Time give one of rock and rolls most underrated guitar players , Barry Bailey a chance to shine. Ronnnie Hammond is spot on as a vocalist and the rhythm section kicks everyone's butt.

Highly recomend. I much prefer this to Are You Ready

  3. Well, it is not as good as "Are You Ready", but what is? Sound quality is excellent. Performance is excellent with a few exceptions, but thats why I like live albums. Very nostalgic. It takes me back to the carefree days of the late 70's and early 80's. I strongly recomend to original ARS fans like me.

  4. This live album is excellent. I like these songs, but not each of them. I recomend it for you.

  5. Are You Ready? Poor substitute. Please release ARE YOU READY? on CD.

  1. I grew up seeing the daredevils at venues such as Cowtown Ballroom and may have been present at one of the concerts this was recorded at. Great album. Ooh Boys its Hot is one of the best summertime beer drinking songs ever.

  2. we took this cd with us to rocky point on vacation and had everybody dancing and having a good time. The music is alive and well almost thirty years after its conception.

  3. I originally bought this in 33 RPM format, which came in a two record set. I wore out those albums. This brings back some of the best songs that the Daredevils played for their enthusiastic fans at concerts around Missouri and Kansas. The recordings are clear, and you can tell the band played to the enthusiasm of their audiences. Additionally, several artists that joined them when they were around their home town of Springfield, Missouri played on this album.
One of the songs is a very neat setting of "Satisfied Mind" played in the men's bathroom at McDonald Arena at Southwest Missouri State University, so that they could gather the acoustic sound of that area.
I've been looking for this to come out on CD for years, it's one of my favorite Daredevils albums. If you are a Daredevil fan, I'd think you'd need this one, regardless of which Daredevil albums you have, to fill out a good collection of this type of music.

  4. I am thrilled to finally own this on CD. It is a great compilation of classic Ozark Mountain Daredevils tunes, and it is a lot of fun to listen to as well. They had a great time making this CD, and it shows. For fans of '70's classic country rock, or Ozark Mountain Daredevils fans, it is a must-have. Enjoy.

  5. I am happy to see they have put this fine cd out fantastic live album wont disappoint. I have all of there stuff this is one of the best, The sound quality is excellent, i waited along time for this set to all come out.

3 comments about Santana Jam.

  1. This album is actually a compilation of songs recorded during the Neal Schon auditions in 1970-1971. Neal is actually the main guitarrist throughout the album, most notably in tracks 4-7. At only 16 years old at the time, he really plays like a veteran guitar genius. Travellin Blues is my favorite song on the disc. It's amazing how Neal masters the blues at such an early age. Special mention is also noted for Everyday I Have The Blues. Neal goes off again in this one. Overall, this album is really good to have. The recording quality is not the best, but none of these songs were ever meant to be on an album anyway. Like I said, these were recorded during the Neal Schon auditions for Santana. The low price makes this CD really good one to own.

  2. This album is an import or budget cd of Santana's work before their first album was released, while its not as good as their first album, its well worth the good price.

  3. (4.5 stars really) This is a really good album. Jam is a little disapointing. not his best album, but still exellent. that is why it got 4.5 instead of 5 stars. i reccomend buying it. it is a great price and a good cd overall. Their remake of "With a little help from my friends" is awesome. Carlos Santana is amazing as always.

5 comments about Bright Midnight: Live in America.

  1. I got this one when it came out and heard it is going out of print, well seems that all this material is out except the Bakersfield performances and figure that is the next release. As for comments on the Matrix tapes, got those years ago and they are pretty darn good (not just that single CD version available on Amazon) but the 3 CD version, back to this sampler of "Live" material. Funny how during the bands heyday they released a terrible live album "Absolutely Live" and years later all this really good material finally sees the light of day. Highly recommended sampler if your not interested in the full set of the albums these performances are from as of now.
Search "Judemac Forever" on msn, Google or Yahoo.

  2. No, Jim is generally not as "hungry" or as vocally flexible range-wise here as in the first couple years of the Doors' existence, perhaps (check out the Soundstage DVD for sheer perfection). But to dismiss these performances as drunken poetry recitals is just plain false--but then, similar criticisms were launched even in 1968 by those who had a set notion of what goods the Lizard King should be expected to deliver. Not only is the sound quality superb, but to these ears there's plenty of energy and magic. I mean, how much more inspired of a performance of "Been Down So Long" could you want from Jim? Or how much more beautifully sung a "Crystal Ship?" "The End" also--though the beginning lines are less than ideal with the band & Jim getting out of synch, some serious mojo is stirred up in the middle, with Jim in a deep poetic space. No, you don't get "the killer awoke before dawn;" why should Jim have to always visit that particular room (fans were singing along to those lines by 1968, for crying out loud) when he had so many others to choose from. The beauty is that, like the Grateful Dead exploring Dark Star, Jim is free to wander wherever he wants each time out so that each is unique & special, for both audience, and just as importantly, for him & the band.
"Touch Me" is a big treat, with Robbie jamming instead of a saxophone--nice to hear this with just the band filling all the space. Really like the "St. James Infirmary" back into "Love Me Two Times," too.
Perhaps this isn't the hottest Doors ever played, but it's pretty damned great--I know I'd have counted myself lucky to have attended one of these shows. And I'm very happy to have this document as consolation.

  3. Its too bad because there are great live recordings out there (HELLO, will someone officially release the 1967 Matrix Club appearences) but this ain't it. The reason is not the sound quality (which is excellent) or the song choices (wisely focusing on earlier more solid albums) but the performances. By this time Jim Morrison had turned into a bloated, Charles Bukowski-ish parody of his former self. The songs meander and jam unwisely and Morrison mutters some lyrics here and there. This is not to say that the Doors were not good live (consider the official 1968 Roundhouse performance dvd- a solid concert right there) but that due to personal reasons as well as the band kind of running out of steam the live shows had declined into an impromptu poetry recital with musical back up. There is quality material out there. Wait until they release it.

  4. I picked this album up several years ago while in Spain, and was blown away. Simply a great collection of live performances by the Doors. Being a big fan, but far too young to have seen them live, I have to settle for tidbits like this to get a taste for their live performances. The variety of different venues is nice as well, and I believe it is certainly a pick of the best live performances. I highly recommend this collection for any Doors fan, especially if you're not quite ready to put out big bucks for the more expensive Bright Midnight Label releases.

  5. this cd not only had horrible quality
but jim morrison is so drunk he cannot even stay in key
this is a waste of time and money
    do not buy this

  1. I was very lucky to pick this limited edition double album. The Aquareus show is very hard to find, and not only that both these albums have gone out of print. I found that these two CD's were pressed in 2002 so the sound is nice and crisp enough for my ears.Every song was aparently digitally mastered for the best sound quality, so this album shouldn't be over looked unless you have these on record. I payed about 22 bucks for this gem of a set. What gets me is In Concert is more expensive than this set i guess it's better. I actually had a chance to get In Concert, but said screw it this one is better. Anyways If you want something you can listen to for atleast two hours get the Doors box set that was released here in America in 1997 and really I wouldn't pass that one up it's also very sought after by fans. I still can't believe that I found this set. Get this if your on a low budget or just someone that is just starting to listen to The Doors and want to hear a great live performance.

4 comments about Peckin' Party.

  1. The 3 studio recordings on this 6-song EP are top notch, and as good as anything on Ditch Diggin' (which may be their best album alongside Dirt Track Date). The live recordings are a bit murky, but the performances are excellent. The studio recording of "8 Piece Box" (the fried chicken song!) is slightly different and, in my opinion, better (more true to the way they perform it live) than the version on Dirt Track Date. If you can find it, get the 10-inch vinyl pressing on egg yolk colored vinyl!

  2. The only problem with Peckin' Party is that you don't get to experience what a true SCOTS show is like by just listening. The CD is also only 6 songs-six wonderous, funky, toe-tappin' and slammin' tunes to keep you jumpin'. The quality of the recordings is fine as well, sounding as grumbling and loud as a finely tuned cadillac. Buy it, you won't regret it.

  3. If a drunk garage band off on a lark performing for a local talent contest is your idea of fun and good times, this album is for you. But in that case, any popular album ever made should foot the bill. The live tracks, in particular, are uninspired, with poor sound and lackluster performances overall. And even if the album is an "EP," the asking price is way out of line. Schlitz, anyone?

  4. This band rocks and Peckin' Party is fine example of their down-home lyrics and clever guitarmanship. Mary Huff and Dave Hartman are the tightest foundation for Rick Miller's reverb-soaked, tremolo-saturated, whammy bar-whipped concocation of hillbilly, funk, surf, and rock. Worthwhile just for their remake of "Daddy was a preacher and moma was a go-go girl"

1 comments about Extended Versions.

  1. For me, Peter Frampton is one of those artists whose in concert performances surpass his studio work. Frampton's classic mid-1970s "Frampton Comes Alive" remains one of the greatest live rock albums ever made. To this day, Frampton continues to tour, performing with as much energy and emotion of his superstar days.

"Extended Versions" is a stripped down and resequenced version of Frampton's "Live in Detroit" CD, released in 2000. Instead of 14 tracks you get 10, with the "Introduction," "Oh for Another Day," "Nassau," and "Can't Take That Away" being dropped for purposes of this "budget" CD. Frampton and his bandmates sound terrific here and this CD is well worth your consideration if you do not already own "Live in Detroit."

5 comments about Dick's Picks, Vol. 7: Alexandra Palace, London, England, 9/9-9/11/74.

  1. These shows were played after the band had had some time off. They were A)Rusty and B)Completely strung out/burned out. Very ragged playing, especially when compared to Summer '74. This set's redeeming grace is the Dark Star->Morning Dew which is very powerful. Recording quality is among the worst of the Dick's Picks series. Lots of hiss, not alot of high/low frequencies which is too bad, because that DS->Dew really shines... Steve Urbauer Stephen Urbauer

  2. Not a spectacular but a solid performance. For the fan who want the complete Weather Report Suite rather than just the "Let It Grow" portion of the song, this album offers a very strong and sungularly beautiful performance featuring Bobby playing electric rhythym guitar in an almost acoutic mode. Very interesting and very good (save the off key Donna-jeez what was Donna doing in this band ever). The rest of the album is very good but not as full throated as the bands later year performances or as full of energy and experimentation as the early years.

  3. I like 1974 Dead a lot, and this has some fine music. I think the DP12 showcases more innovative music, however DP7 is one I do play a lot.

The Scarlet Begonias is very nicely played, as are all the long jams. The long jams are the main attraction in this release...

  4. I own about 3 dozen commercially produced live Dead recordings and this is probably my least favorite of them. It doesn't suck, but it also collects a lot of dust. The highlight of this CD for me is Wharf Rat, but that doesn't mean there aren't better versions of the song out there. I mostly agree with the other reviewers that this is a "good" concert but there's nothing special about it to me; nothing stands out. You could do a lot better with just about any other Dick's Pick.

  5. Basically I'd like to support Alan Sandler's review. My only qualm with this set is that with better Dick's Picks out there including 4,8,10,11,12,14,15,16 and 18 to name a few, casual fans would be best to hold off on this one until they amass a decent Dick's Pick's collection. If you have most of those shows, then by all means pick this one up. Phil's bass thunders on Scarlet Begonias, Not Fade Away, and especially Wharf Rat. Also listen for the King Bee tease during the jazzy outro jam of a veteran Weather Report Suite. For those interested, these shows come from a three-night stand at Alexandra Palace in London from 9/9/74 - 9/11/74.

2 comments about Nazareth - Homecoming: Greatest Hits Live in Glasgow.

  1. If you like Nazareth and have ever seen them live, this is the CD to get. SNAZ is great, but this is even better. I always wanted to hear Miss Misery live. The version on this CD is better than I ever imagined. When's the new US tour?

  2. After many years & countless tour dates Nazareth records a "LIVE"
one back home. With energy & enthusiasm of early Naz, they play their brand of good rockin' tunes just like the old days! Great set list including all the standards, some ballads and some new stuff. Throughout the CD Dan McCafferty's razor sharp vocals are something Axl Rose (G'n'R) will always strive to match. For a Naz fan this is a five star effort and for those less familiar an
easy 4+. Let the party begin! Cheers!
