- I never knew this music existed until I heard the live "Bus Stop" at a French bistro in the West Village a few months ago. How wonderful to hear so many of the Hollies favorites again, and live! and with Nash! The "Teach Your Children Well" shows that pop music lost a lot when Nash left for fame and fortune, rather that staying with than the far superior harmonies of The Hollies. The version of "He ain't Heavy" is amazing.
- This is a sample of a show from The Graham Nash Reunion Tour of Summer 1983 at Kings Island Amusement Park, Cincinatti, Ohio. With Graham back on board for the new Album and Tour, new life was kicked into the band. And after 20 years together this was to be their big chance for sucess in the USA. Well, the Album failed to set the Charts on fire, the Tour got to Cincinatti after the Monkees (and THAT should tell you something about timing!). But, this is still the Hollies and these are Veterans of thousands of Stages so you will get Great Entertainment Value for your buck at one of their Concerts.
On this evening at Kings Island the boys came and played the hits from their entire career. Bus Stop, On A Carousel, The Air That I Breathe, He Ain't Heavy, Teach Your Children (CSN) & Wasted On The Way (CSN) are performed as per Hollies Excellance. Allan Clarke is in fine voice and so is Graham but my complaint with the Arrangements of these Great Pop Songs are the Dominance of the Keyboards of a Certain Paul Bliss (Later of the Moody Blues Touring Band).
The absence of Guitar from Tony Hicks is BAAD as he is the driving force in Hollies Music (and he plays a mean Banjo as well) But on this CD the keyboards are front and center.
Things are finally on track on the last track "Long Cool Woman" that is a 10 minute tour-de-force of Guitars ( Four of em') that gives you the real Hollies sound & might.
I was lucky enough to see the Hollies show in Scotland in 1987 (without Graham) and I was Dazzled by Tony and his Incredable playing powers. I would guess that tonight somewhere in the UK or Europe the Hollies will be back on Stage doing what they do best.
This disk has fine Vocals & Top-Notch Sound...But I subtract 1 star for the lack of Great Guitar on most of the tracks here. The Hollies 43 years and still going strong, that's something !
- This would have to be my favourite live album. These guys sound just as good live as they do in their studio recorded albums. This CD is full of hamonies tight as a drum and some soaring guitar work. This album also includes the Classic "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" which is given a harder , edgier guitar sound than the orginal single which works fine by me. After all these years these guys can still deliver the goods!!!
- Im a Hollies freak. On this album, recorded live with Graham Nash, they sing as good as ever. At times a heck of alot better than CS&N live.
However, all the cool guitar parts from their hits are replaced here with a lousy cheapo fluff 80's keyboardS and it really sounds awful. Classic signature guitar riffs are omitted and played on a synth like a cheap vegas lounge act. What a big let down and a weird surprise that Nash would be in favor of reuniting with this great vocal guitar band who's trademark riffs are now done on a DX7.
Shame on the Hollies...They sing great but sound like an bad oldies act smothered in keys. RIP Hollies.

- Back in 1983 I was actually shocked to read that the Hollies were playing just down the road from where I lived. I was even more surprised to learn that Graham Nash was joining them for this brief US tour. I never thought I would get to see The Hollies, let alone Th Hollies with Graham back in the fold as if it were 1966.
The concert was stunning and the performances were spot on. Graham yelled to us all after the encore that we were all gonna be on a live record. Thrilling. Months went by and there was no live recording. Needless to say it was YEARS later that the record finally was released for the rest fo the world to have a listen. Ahh, but I was THERE!

- This CD was rated highly by other Amazon customers and I purchased it based on their recomendations. I was not disapointed. I loved it from the
first track on! I played it on my car CD player while traveling with a friend, and he immediately remarked that he loved it. He said he had grown up listening to those songs. I now have several Elvin Bishop's CD's
in my collection and have ordered two more. I can't wait for them to arrive, which should be this week. This is the best of his releases that
I have listened to so far! Buy this one, you will not be disappointed!
- This live record does what all good live records should do, it captures an artist at his peak. These live recordings came on the heels of his only big radio hit "Fooled Around And Fell In Love". Bishop took a full strength band on tour that included the "Tower Of Power" horn section, his full band that had been with him for years, great backup singers, and future Jefferson Starship singer Mickey Thomas. The result is a finely tuned live show, and a version of the previously mentioned hit that may be better than the original (Mickey Thomas's voice is phenomenal). Elvin Bishop has a great voice as well and gets highlighted on some of the old favorites. The sound quality is great, and so is this saved moment in time.
- I've had the good fortune of seeing Elvin Bishop live several times and the man definitely knows how to rock the house. He mixes his own style of Blues with lots of humor. His guitar playing is genuine and influenced by the Chicago Blues style. He has played in great bands like Buffalo Springfield, but he is definitely his own man. I don't care who you are, if you want to feel good, check out Elvin Bishop. His lyrics are funny and he always jokes around with the audience and his band. This live recording demonstrates a lot of that. The only reason I gave this CD a four star is because, as good as it is, I think some of his other CD's like "Ace in the Hole" are my personal favorites. Still, you really can't go wrong. Check it out!
- Thirty years ago this was one of my favorite albums. A week ago I ordered it from here and it's been in my dashboard ever since. It sounded great then and it sounds excellent now.
There are many highly rated live albums. What sets this apart from all the rest? It's just unabaited joyous FUN from beginning to end.
- Vintage Elvin. If you're going to own any of his music, this is the one.

5 comments about Live Magic.
- Looking back at the 1970s and 1980s, sometimes many forget how big the band Queen was. If it weren't for Freddie Mercury's death in 1992, we might still be talking about Queen being as big a band as the Beatles. Even as Queen moved into the 1980s, while their popularity did slightly decline in the United States, it continued to be very high in Europe. As good a band as Queen was, it was their live performances that really were something special. Their performance at Live Aid is widely considered one of the greatest of all-time and their subsequent "Magic" tour is considered one of the all-time greatest concert tours. At the height of that magic tour were legendary concerts at Wembley Stadium and Knebworth Park that would wrap up the "Magic" tour. Queen would release CD and DVDs version of one of the Wembley Stadium shows. The CD would be called "Live at Wembley '86" and the DVD would be simply called "Live at Wembley" Both the CD and DVD versions would capture the true "magic" of a Queen live performance. Queen would also release another CD from the "Magic" Tour simply entitled "Live Magic". This would feature not only performances from the Wembley show, but also from Knebworth and Budapest. While this CD would have its moments, it would prove to pale in comparison with the "Live at Wembley" collections.
Queen is an example of the sum of the parts actually being greater than the whole. However, if you take each of the four members of Queen, they easily stand on their own as a top musician in their profession. Freddie Mercury is easily known to be the emotional and flamboyant lead vocalist of Queen who indeed has a legendary voice. Brian May is the legendary lead guitarist and probably the second most popular member of the band. Roger Taylor and John Deacon go extremely underrated. Listen to Taylor's thundering drumming in the studio or live and one can easily understand why he was asked to participate in an All Star Drum Jam (The S.O.S. All-Stars) at the Live Earth concert. As for John Deacon, he might be one of music's all-time underrated bass players. Many of his bass lines have proven to be the foundation for Queen's musical sound. In addition to being top musicians, all four members play integral roles in the songwriting. Queen's live performances cement how good these performers are. Even though "Live Magic" is a shell of what "Live at Wembley" is, it does demonstrate how good the four members of Queen are.
There are three reasons why "Live Magic" is a poor collection.
1."Live Magic" is a compilation of performances from the "Magic" tour as opposed to a single performance. I prefer to have a live album be a single night's performance. The reason is because you are able to capture the essence and magic of the performance. In the case of the "Live at Wembley" performances, once you watch or listen to that performance, you can understand better. Typically when compilation live performances from a tour are assembled, it usually misses the mark. Although "Live Magic" attempts to mold the songs into feeling like a single performance, it really does not do a very good job at doing so.
2."Live Magic" does not represent the complete Queen performance from the "Magic" tour. There are many songs that are missing from this CD that were performed on this tour. Most notably missing is the performance of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" (featuring a great guitar solo by May), Queen's medley tribute to the music of the 1950s and 1960s, and the acoustic set done by the band.
3.Perhaps the biggest problem is the editing. Many of the songs that are included are not complete versions that were performed live. The only three songs included in their entirety are "A Kind of Magic", "Another One Bites the Dust", and "Hammer to Fall". The rest of the songs are all edited. In fact, "We are the Champions" is missing a whole verse. Perhaps the worst of all is the editing of a Queen masterpiece - "Bohemian Rhapsody". The "Opera" section of "Bohemian Rhapsody" is simply eliminated. It is important to know that on this tour, Queen used a pre-recorded version of the "Opera" section wrapped around the piano/ballad intro and the hard-rock finale to the song. Despite the fact that Queen prerecorded that portion, it worked extremely well. However, eliminating this song just borders on sac-religious! The only possible reason for editing the songs was probably for no other purpose than to fit the songs on a single CD/album.
On the positive side, this collection does provide other performances from the "Magic" tour that are not included on the "Live at Wembley" performance. However, I would have easily have preferred either a CD with an entire performance from one of the other venues, or a compilation with complete performances from the venues that are on this CD. I consider Queen fans to be some of the most knowledgeable music fans out there and I know they would appreciate full performances.
The liner notes are also poor. Yes there are musician credits, but I would have likes dome sort of write-up on the tour - or at least to know what songs came from what performances ont he tour. Overall, there just isn't much more I can say positive on this collection other than the fact that you do get to hear at least some good Queen music. However, I still recommend purchasing "Live at Wembley" (either the CD and/or the DVD). I would only get this album if you can get it at good price - or if you want to complete your Queen collection.
- I prefer LIve Killers to this album but I prefer this album to Live At Wembley.
People have complained about the editing but it is still an excellent compilation, and does recreate the magic of a live performance by Queen, in the days of the late great Freddie Mercury.
It starts out with One Vision, continues with the great hard rocker Tie Your Mother Down, continues with one of my favourites, the glam rock Seven Seas Of Rhye, followed by the pop hit A Kind Of Magic to the mesmerizing Under Pressure, Another One Bites The Dust, with it's powerful beat, the spirited I Want To Break Free, the enviromental awareness song, This Is The World We Created?, Queen's best known hit, the rock opera This Is The World We Created?, the funky Hammer To Fall and Radio Gaga, the hit used in sports matches and advertisements around the world, We Will Rock You, the comforting Friends Will Be Friends and the anthemic We Are The Champions, before ending with Queen's version of God Save The Queen.
A great rounding off to your collection, but the greatest hits albums first, and possibly Queen's earlier albums.
- This disc was the 2nd live offering from Queen after QUEEN LIVE KILLERS was made in the late seventies.
I like it a lot and prefer this to Live at Wembley and even the recent On Fire, all of which are double sets.
Here's why - although it's edited - the performances are sterling. Versions of One Vision, Tie Your Mother Down and Radio Gaga are great.
No disagreements that Bohemian sounds butchered but the album moves along at a nice pace. It feels tighter. Worth getting for the songs unless you must have a complete double set of Queen in concert.
I will say that the definitive live Queen set is probably still in the vaults waiting to be released...
- this is the worst live album Queen ever released, believe me
I love Queen but this album was a total disappointment... cuts, bad performances (Bohemian rhapsody is a disaster), bad recording quality...
buy Live at Wembley, THAT is a GREAT live album, this is just crap
- The songs on Live Magic have been heavilly edited. Much better versions can be found on Live At Wembley the album to get instead of this one.

- That is in my opinion the best album of the New York Dolls. Many great songs are represented: „Hoochie Coochie Man", „Great Big Kiss", „Babylon", „Pirate Love" and „Jet Boy". The band has a rough energy, which will be a pleasure to every punk rock fan (Malcolm McLaren, the manager of the Sex Pistols, was previously for a short time the manager of the New York Dolls). Also the follow-up band The Heartbreakers is highly recommendable.
- This is yet another re-release of the same material we have all heard. However, it isn't bad. The second half of the CD is material that was released as 'Red Patent Leather', the sound is pretty sketchy, but it is a good example of later period Dolls, when things were beginning to fall apart. The first half of the CD is material from something I can't think of right now. The sound is good, but David's vocals are too high in the mix. IF you don't have a lot of the bootleg stuff that goes around, this is a good buy. It does give you an idea of what the Dolls were about live. If you have a good collection, don't get fooled thinking this is new material like I did.
