5 comments about Rockin' Down the Highway: The Wildlife Concert.
- I consider three 1970's groups (Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, and The Doobie Brothers) the originators of Southern rock. The Doobie Brothers were the gentlemen of Southern rock. These gentlemen's personalities shine in "Rockin' Down The Highway: The Wildlife Concert", a recording of an extremely fun, happy, and energetic 1996 concert for the Wildlife Conservation Society. The Doobie Brothers' support for the Wildlife Conservation Society is appropriate. Nearly twenty-five years after their first recording, The Doobie Brothers still are rockin' down the highway and their wild life continues. That's an extremely long playing record!
This excellent recording presents The Doobie Brothers' lyrics more clearly than some of their studio recordings. Two selections: 'China Grove' (with its outstanding guitar solos) and 'Listen To The Music' (a great concert arrangement) are examples of Southern rock's best. Another 8 selections are particularly outstanding. 'Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While)', 'Minute By Minute', and 'What A Fool Believes' feature Michael McDonald's outstanding vocals. 'Takin' It To The Streets' features saxophone solos and Michael McDonald vocals. 'Slow Burn', 'The Doctor', & 'Without You' feature outstanding guitar solos. 'Excited' features vocal and guitar solos plus a rolling arrangement reminiscent of "The Lizzies" scene in the 1979 Michael Beck cult movie "The Warriors". The Doobie Brothers have polished their artistry and style for over twenty-five years. That artistry and style shines in "Rockin' Down The Highway: The Wildlife Concert". I recommend this fun live recording both for Doobie Brothers fans and also for those unfamiliar with The Doobie Brothers' music.
- This is a great album for anyone who has not heard the Doobie Brothers before and wants to get to know the band. For anyone who has a lot of Doobie albums, this cd probably is not a good buy. The songs are simply recycled and there is no creative spin to make the cd unique. This cd is best for new fans or the Doobie obsessed.
- Saw the Doobies Labor Day 1999 at a festival. Found this CD to be on par with that concert. This CD captures all the musical excitement that a festival setting can give. I recommend this CD to any Doobies fan or fan of music from the 70's.
- I have this CD and the video and I highly, highly recommend both for a look and a listen to one of America's greatest, cleanest sounding and most talented rock and roll bands, who provide grand doses of not only rock but also country, jazz and blues. Buy the CD for your stereo, and the video for your television. And share both with your children so they can learn and understand what great seventies rock and roll really is. Amazon offers great prices on both the CD and VHS (and NO, I don't work for them!) Guaranteed to please.
- Having been a Doobie Brothers fan for 20 plus years, it wasn't until 1990 that I saw them perform live. I have seen them 3 times since. I was convinced their onstage live energy couldn't be captured on "vinal" or CD. I was wrong. This is a terrific double album. Crystal clear sound, great selection of classic hits spanning the last 25 years.Even non touring ex-Doobie-Michael McDonald appears in several tunes (I guess there are no ex Doobies). Highly recommended!!!added for a few tunes.

- A seemingly endless amount of tapes of music by the British `prog-rock band' Soft Machine keeps suprising and delighting us. For those who thought they had to make do with only four albums (One, Two, Third, Fourth) by the prime line-up of the band one gem after the other props up from hitherto unknown tape vaults. `Virtually' and `Noisette' are among the best - live tapes of the musicians caught at their zenith. This particular cd is one of the more amazing items: the core band (Wyatt, Ratledge, Hopper, Dean) in BBC Studio 1 (March 1971) surrounded by a handful of musicians who belonged to the budding jazz-rock incrowd. Among them (in two compositions) power-drummer Phil Howard who was to replace Wyatt a couple of months after this semi-live recording, following the infamous split-up. All the best Softs qualities are presented here. Soul-searching sax melodies, unbelievable pyrotechnics and that typical soaring organ sound... Staggering performances. Soft Machine on stage never was a `tight' band: it sounded a bit rickety now and then, perhaps rather as a result of `group tensions' than free-flowing improvising techniques, but with astoundingly electrifying results nonetheless. Most impressive is the three quarters of an hour medley which serves as a conclusion of the cd, one composition effortlessly segueing the other, including a classic account of `Kings and Queens', an excerpt from `Out-bloody-rageous' - featuring a malfunctioning fuzz on Hopper's bass - and a heartbreakingly beautiful rendition of the fearsome technicalities in `Teeth', all rounded up with a spotless `Pigling Bland'. A classic document of a uniquely gifted quartet, which even now leaves the listener dumbfounded. Not to be missed.

- THERE WAS A STORY THAT JANIS JOPLIN ALMOST JOINED THE ELEVATORS. THIS CD LENDS SOME CREDENCE TO THAT STORY. THERE ARE NO CREDITS IN THE LINER NOTES AS TO HER PRESENCE BUT IT SURE DOES SOUND LIKE HER. IT MIGHT BE ANOTHER 'MASKED MARAUDERS'TYPE HOAX BUT IT IS FUN TO SPECULATE...... I REALLY LIKED THE COVERS ON THIS CD RANGING FROM BUDDY HOLLY TO THE BEATLES WITH BO AND THE KINKS THROWN IN MAKES ME WISH I'D HAVE SEEN THEM IN 'CONCERT'. THE SOUND QUALITY WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER I'M SURE.
- More or less, another cheesy compilation of half live tracks(most likely faked)and half studio out-takes,album left overs, etc.Don't get me wrong, this CD isn't all bad. There are some decent cuts here for your listening pleasure. Some TFE originals, like "Splash 1","Roller Coaster" and "Fire Engine",not to mention some okay done covers such as The Kink's "You Really Got Me" and Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven".If you wish to check out their 'best ever' live lp,that's for real(not faked),check out 'Levitation'(see my review).'Out Of Order...' is strictly for die hards only.
- This is a better document of the Elevators than their "Live" LP, (which wasn't recorded live). Sound is pretty good, considering the fact that it's a field recording from the mid 60's. The 'experts' who released this aren't sure if it's from 1965, or 1966? It's NEITHER, it's from 1967, and this wasn't the set they played at La Maison, anyway. Many of these songs *are* cover versions, of course, not original numbers, and frankly, they're *not* exactly A-list material, but they *are* the Elevators, and played and performed in the 'Vator's inimitable style...

4 comments about California Bleeding.
- There has been a vast amount of concert and studio material finding its way to CD and album from The Stooges and Iggy & The Stooges that it is oftentimes a tough call where to start...or what is actually relevant.
This collection culled from a series of September 1973 gigs at the Whisky a Go Go and a 1974 San Francisco concert is about as solid a release available; Iggy (Pop) Stooge is holding things together, the band is in good form and the audience is enthusiastic. The photo collection from the performances are an added bonus and the entire package is solid.
This is California Dreamin' from a decadent proto-punk perspective, but demonstrates that there were rare moments when an artist who was quickly losing a battle with personal demons could still deliver the goods.
- If you're a deep fan you won't be bothered by the bootleg qaulity of the tracks. Iggy's speaking voice is heard among the music culled from 1973 and 1974 gigs. Bass is strong, audience resonates.
It appears that the famous photo seen on the Live In Michigan CD is taken from the '73 show herein. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Some hideous, some beautiful photography in the booklet.
Prince...bend an ear, baby.
- 'California Bleeding' brings us die hards three(3) live concert snippets. Two of the three are from a five-night stay the Stooges played at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in September,1973.Stooges fans, please take note:these tracks are NOT of the same that were released on the French label Revenge, titled The Stooges-'Live At The Whiskey'.The show on THAT disc was from the Sept.16 gig.The tunes on THIS disc are from the Sept.15 and Sept.19 gigs.Probably not much difference, but they are culled from another show.Sound quality seems to vary on certain cuts.I,personally was impressed with "Open Up And Bleed",the rarely played "Johanna" and performance art-like "She Creatures Of The Hollywood Hills".Noticed that the Stooges fifth member(?) keyboardist Scott Thurston was playing some pretty mean harmonia here and there. No better than 'Double Danger'.
- This is raw. This is very nasty nasty rock n roll made by some very intense guys. It's live, and it's desperate. Recorded at various L.A. nightspots, including the Whisky..this album captures Iggy and the stooges and their ferocious, seat of the pants best. "Take it easy brother, take it easy brother.." Buy this cd only if you wanna get down n dirty with the Igster.. if not..check out the slick new remix of raw power. That rocks, but CA Bleeding is truly RAW. Cut down to the bone.

- Man, I don't know how much of this is really live (I've got a feeling, all of it) and how much was over-dubbed in the studio but Ted pulls out all of the musical stops. If you're in the mood to just "let go" for a half your, this is your album. It was a huge risk recording a set of new material completely live but I think it paid off. I'm not sure how it would have went over if I were there but listening to this CD 26 years later, is a treat for the senses. I don't recommend for driving. You may just blow your engine!!! As Ted would say, "Here's another nice one"!!
The only quip I have with this album/band line-up is the absence of Dereck St. Holmes. He was off at the time recording with Brad Whitford of Aerosmith. Another great album - Whitford/St. Holmes.
- I just listened to this in it's entirety today but had heard a couple from this on the radio over the years and really it's not worth wasting your money on, to tell the truth. I am a huge fan of Ted's guitar showmanship and even though I have almost all of his studio albums, I don't find myself returning very often to them because his lyrics are stupid and sexist and just aren't very intelligent. Not that I'm saying that I have to have extremely intelligent lyrics like you might get from Rush, but Nugent's stuff is so dumb he looks like an idiot a lot of the time. This INTENSITIES IN 10 CITIES is about the bottom of the barrel for old Teddy and I am just a few minutes away from selling my copy of this here on Amazon. I have such an extensive collection of all types of music that I don't need this taking up precious space I need for more valuable cd's. JUST SAY NO TO THIS!!!
- I bought this album becuase it was the only one that had 'Heads will role', and it was worth it. The songs which were never before recorded sound good and for a live album, it's pretty good. I'd recommend this CD to those who like good rock.
- Man,this live recording is a brutal,in your face, take no prisoners, excellent sounding rendition of 10 of Ted's best songs. And it outguns Any other studio or live recordings,Gonzo and Hammersmith included.PERIOD.
- As others have said about this album, it's no Double Live Gonzo. Crummy songs (new songs, never recorded before), poor quality (production is very weak, a recurring theme on Nugent's albums after "Cat Scratch Fever"), all in all a bad album. I bought this when it came out, but didn't play it that much.
Stick with his first album, "Ted Nugent", and "Cat Scratch Fever", and you'll be doing all right.

- I suppose this Japanese version of Strangers Expanded is a collectors Item because it is imported. It seems to be identical to the 1999 Capitol reissue of the 1979 midwest concert tour live album, Strangers in the night. Elsewhere on this website you will find the 1999 release, however the track list is way wrong. Use this track list as the correct one. Well worth the price of the CD. It is definitely the prize of my UFO collection.

3 comments about Studio/Live.
- Great song...you simply must shell out the bucks for it
- In my review of Four Sail, I said that Out Here would be a good companion to that album. Now that I think of it, Studio/Live might be a better choice. It edits the cumbersome double-album Out Here down to a more listenable form, and by adding the live tracks, actually creates a very solid recording. The live version here of "Stand Out" is the best I've heard and this may be the only place to find the excellent "Product of the Times" -- unless you want to hunt down the hard-to-find, unreleased Arthur Lee solo album Black Beauty. The songs "Doggone" and "Love is More Than Words" sound particularly better in their edited down forms (minus overlong drum and guitar solos, respectively). It might have been better had the short song "Abalone" been included here, but that's a minor quibble. I highly recommend this CD to any fan of Arthur Lee and Love.
- this features some of the better cuts from OUT HERE, a late 1969 love album, along with 4 live tracks. the best live song is probably the version of stand out, but the highlight may very well be product of the times, a rather funky number not available anywhere else-it's only on studio/live. perhaps the best song from the studio side of this album is gather 'round , presented here in a slightly abbreviated version. while this material is good, it is really for completists only. and the studio tracks can be heard in their entirety on OUT HERE. this isn't necessarily a good thing, as one song, doggone, is actually better in its edited form-a long and lugubrious drum solo has been edited out, this certainly improves the song, which is a nice melodious ditty.
