  1. Put this on and watch the womens pants melt right off! Also, you will need 2,000,000 amperes heat lamp. Like they use in Abu Gahreb prison.

  2. Roxy Music's Heart Still Beating was released in October of 1990.
The album was recorded Live in Frejus in the South of France in August of 1982 during the tour to support Avalon.
Originally, four tracks from this concert was released as The High Road EP in 1983. In October of 1990, the rest of the concert was used to create this lasting document of the final 80's version of the band which featured original members guitarist Phil Manzanera, lead singer Bryan Ferry and saxophonist Andy Mackay plus new drummer Andy Newmark, future Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler keyboardist Guy Fletcher and Bryan's guitarist neil Hubbard and bass player Alan Spenner plus three backing singers.
This EP turned full live album included their superb cover of Neil Young's 1977 classic Like a Hurricane(original yet contained the classic elements of the original), killer versions of Out of the Blue and Can't Let Go(the former had Phil Manzanera play a guitar solo in place of the original track's violin solo).
Plus great versions of A Song For Europe, Love is the Drug, Avalon and a stirring version of John Lennon's classic Jealous Guy are among the highlight.
This was a great live album which would be their last until their 2003 reunion live album which saw the return of original drummer Paul Thompson.
    Highly Recommended!
    NO COUNTER REVIEWS PLEASE!

  3. Given a choice I will almost always take a good live cd over a good studio cd. This is a good live cd.

The cd starts slowly (the reason for docking it a star). While the songs are not bad, the only one that reaches out and grabs you is "Impossible Guitars" (a taste of what Phil Manzanera is capable of - if you like it, check out his cd "Primitive Guitars").

With "Love Is the Drug" things pick up. One of roxy's few "hits" it would likely be tough to perform this in a way I wouldn't like - but the version here is excellent. Then comes an excellent cover of Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane" - better, in my opinion, than the original. Next is "My Only Love", another well done song, then a few hit an miss attempts (the best - "Avalon" - another song that would be tough to ruin). Concluding the cd is a killer cover of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" - containing an excellent sax solo (with feedback!) and free whistling by Brian Ferry sure to send chills up and down your spine.

Buy this cd - there are no bad songs and several outstanding cuts.

  4. A fine live album. Some songs are extremely extended without necessity. But the album has good vibe, smart production, good guitar solos and the always mesmerizing voice of Bryan Ferry.

  5. I have NO idea what the one-star reviewer was listening to, but if for nothing else than the brilliant despair of "Can't Let Go" this live album is a stunner. And then . . . and then . . . one gets to "Like a Hurricane" and there isn't a more emotionally charged moment in any live album I have ever heard by any band. Phenomenal. Ferry is the true genius of our time.

  1. Simply stated, if you do not own this, you are not a fan of good music. Yes the sound quality may not be on par with today's standards. However, this is a great, dare I say, historical document of one of the all time great lineups EVER!. The addition of guitarist Steve Gaines kicked these guys in the pants at a time when they needed it.

It's about time they get the the respect they deserve by being voted into the Rock and Roll HOF.

  2. ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD, along with SECOND HELPING, STREET SURVIVORS, NUTHIN' FANCY, GIMME BACK MY BULLETS, PRONOUNCED LEHN-NERD SKIN-NERD, the FREEBIRD movie soundtrack, and SKYNYRD'S FIRST: THE COMPLETE MUSCLE SHOALS RECORDINGS, is one of Lynyrd Skynyrd's best albums ever. It contains immortal live versions of "Workin' For MCA", "The Needle And The Spoon", and "Free Bird", making it, along with the Outlaws' BRING IT BACK ALIVE and HITTIN' THE ROAD, Skynyrd's own LYVE FROM STEEL TOWN, LYVE 2004, and SOUTHERN BY THE GRACE OF GOD, Blackfoot's HIGHWAY SONG and GREATEST HITS LIVE, Molly Hatchet's GREATEST HITS LIVE, DOUBLE TROUBLE LIVE, and LOCKED AND LOADED, Foghat's LIVE, DECADES LIVE, and ROAD CASES, Ted Nugent's DOUBLE LIVE GONZO!, LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH '79, and FULL BLUNTAL NUGITY, Nazareth's BACK TO THE TRENCHES, the Allman Brothers Band's LIVE AT FILLMORE EAST, UFO's STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT, Pat Travers' LIVE! GO FOR WHAT YOU KNOW, Blue Oyster Cult's ON YOUR FEET OR ON YOUR KNEES, SOME ENCHANTED EVENING, and EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIVE, Grand Funk Railroad's CAUGHT IN THE ACT, Humble Pie's PERFORMANCE: ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE and GREATEST HITS LIVE, Head East's ON STAGE, Bob Seger's LIVE BULLET, Robin Trower's LIVE and GREATEST HITS LIVE, Bruce Springsteen's LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY, Marshall Tucker's WHERE WE ALL BELONG and STOMPIN' ROOM ONLY, Cheap Trick's AT BUDOKAN: THE COMPLETE CONCERT, Bachman-Turner Overdrive's GREATEST HITS LIVE, Golden Earring's LIVE and SOMETHING HEAVY GOING DOWN, Charlie Daniels' THE LIVE RECORD, Thin Lizzy's LIVE AND DANGEROUS, and Little Feat's WAITING FOR COLUMBUS, one of the consummate live albums of all time.

  3. love all the songs.........free bird still a hit....

  4. This CD re-release (with extra tracks) was long overdue. I never get tired of listening to this! This was the real Lynyrd Skynyrd. The guitars are hot, vocals rough and wonderful, bass and drums tight. Although you can hear faint remnants of mistakes that were overdubbed on 2 songs (to fix live clams in solos), the music overall is second to none. This CD brings back alot of memories of growing up in the 70's.

  5. growing up in the 70's was perhaps the best time to grow up (except the '50's) for rock and roll. Especially the south, where bands like Skynyrd, was the king and the Allman's were the bible from which they studied. "One more from the road", sounds as good as the live cd's of today, and that album was cut when I was 13 years old,and now I am 38. Being from that area and era, one can't help but be proud and fall in love with its harmonies and instrumentals. Its only once in a lifetime that such artists come together and you are around to witness their greatness. May you live in our hearts forever......

  1. Mearly a Bring it Back Alive redo. Only thing missing is the endings to half the songs. Nothing new here. To simply fade out a song half way through is an injustice to the band, the buyer, and the seller who may not know. I will never buy anything that says Extended Versions. Thats the long way of saying rip-off!

  2. I made the mistake of buying this CD based on the title "Extended Versions". Actually, that's an oxymoron. This CD is the "Bring It Back Alive" CD, but with SHORTENED versions of the songs, not "extended" ones. Apparently Extended Versions is a series from this music label, I've seen CDs in the store by other artists, now, that all have this same title. Don't buy it, buy the other CD. Or if you already have that, save your money.

5 comments about Live With Lou Reed Vol.1.

  1. As far as Velvet Underground live material, I had only heard Live at Max's Kansas City, which I love, so I expected more of the same from the 1969 material, fidelity wise, before I heard this. Surprise! The 1969 series is an enormous step up in quality and the performances are even better.

1969 used to be one volume and it should be still; there is no difference in the liner notes or packaging but there is now a volume 1 and volume 2. Having said this, if you must buy one of these volumes, this is the one. They are both great, but this one rocks more, has a better song selection and a longer running time. It may be blasphemy to say, but I think the versions of What Goes On and Beginning To See The Light here are better than the studio recordings.

Check this out! You won't be disappointed.

  2. I own the album on vinyl (2 LPs, discs 1 and 2), and I must say it's the one VU collection I would take with me if stranded on a desert island. It's not as artsy as VU and Nico or White Light/White Heat, though it't not as "dry" as loaded. This is a good introduction the VU for new listeners.

  3. Recorded in 1969 (but not released until much later), this two-part live album shows the Velvet Underground turning away from the feedback thunderstorms and warped art-rock of their earlier work, and embracing a more song oriented approach. By this time, they'd abandoned electric violist and noise hound John Cale, replacing him with multi-instrumentalist Doug Yule, to startling effect: Where Cale was an artist, Yule was a musician, and an incredibly skilled one at that- just listen to his hypnotic organ solo at the end of "What Goes On" for proof of that. Of course, this is all completely relative- one listen to the scorched-earth catharsis of "Heroin" (included here as a bonus track) or the haunting character study "New Age" should convince you that the Velvets hadn't sold out. And anyway, this album is an absolutely fantastic listen- the Velvet Underground were an energetic live band with a punchy, uncompromising sound and a sharp rock `n' roll edge, and there's evidence of that here in spades. Just listen to that loose, nervy version of "I'm Waiting For The Man," or the euphoric blasts of "We're Gonna Have A Real Good Time Together" and "Beginning To See The Light." There are also plenty of fine examples of Lou Reed's brilliant songwriting- the quiet, pained beauty of "Lisa Says" is a highlight, as is "Sweet Jane," with its sweet, hypnotic melancholy and wonderful guitar riff. Also, dig the icy ballad "Femme Fatale" (which sounds great, even if Nico isn't singing it), and the self explanatory "Rock `N' Roll." It's a fantastic addition to the VU catalogue. Also, be sure to pick up volume two, which is just as good (if not better).

  4. Like many, I'm sure, I missed the V.U. totally when they were a band. Finally, as the 70s wore on, I started reading how great and influencial they were, and of course by that time I was familiar with Lou Reed. So, I saw this LP at a record store on sale for, like $4.99 and bought it. I think I read a rave review of it somewhere. I remember the first thing that impressed me was the sound. It was up front and in your face, yet the subtle nuances like Tucker's cymbal work was also captured. In short, it sounded perfect, sort of like "Get Your Ya Yas Out". Lou Reed is best known for his "narrative", harder voice, but in truth he can be a heck of a pop singer, with a sweet voice and gentle vibrato. He's on this night, as is the rest of the band. All the song choices are excellent, and they are all must hear versions.

I could rave on, but really, there is no need. This is by far the best recorded live V.U., and the band performance is incredible. Even if you're not already a V.U. fan, this is not a bad place to start.

    It's how I did it.

  5. Born in India in 1976, I heard this group in 2006 after graduating from an art school in the US, the way I could associate with these voices only confirms time-space-less-ness of good music at large!

  1. This is the worst CD I've ever heard - it's painful to see how the band apparently systematically destroys the structure of these originally beautiful songs. (The vocals are horrifying) Sure, this CD has all the big Jefferson tunes on it - but do yourself a favor and don't be fooled into buying this cause it's so cheap. I actually suspect this is some kind of bootleg of a live concert. This CD should never have been produced

  2. This is a total waste. The songs are poorly produced and barely recognizable. Don't be tempted.

  3. I was hoping that this would be a great compilation CD, but I could barely even listen to it! There is nothing in the description that reveals that the songs on this album were recorded live and it is, quite possibly, one of the most poorly produced albums I've ever heard! Voices and instruments drown each other out in jumps and spurts and I couldn't even recognize some of these classic songs. Do yourself a favor - stay away from his album!

  4. This audio cd of Jefferson Starship is one of the best that I have ever listened to. It has lots of their most popular songs and nothing can top this. The low price even makes it that much more enjoyable.

  1. This is one of my absolute favorite live albums period. Cafferty's voice is quite rhaspy but makes the "live" part real not remastered. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a complete CD. The LP has 20 tracks which include the two studio tracks, Morning Dew and Juicy Lucy and two live tracks: big boy and Every Young Man's dream. The Description from the editor state it include the studio songs but don't see them on the track list.

  2. Have always liked this 1981 live Nazareth album. Also glad to see that one record label had the sense to squeeze this 77 minute show onto one disc, instead of two CD's,as it has been released before. All sixteen tracks kick ass as far as I'm concerned.Like,"Razamanaz",Joni Mitchell's "This Flight Tonight","Beggar's Day",J.J.Cale's "Cocaine",their FM radio staple "Holiday","Hair Of The Dog","Show No Mercy",the Yardbird's "Shapes Of Things",the unforgetable "Love Hurts",ZZ Top's "Tush" and "Morning Dew".A must-have for all fans of '70's hard rock.Line-up:Dan McCafferty-vocals,Manny Charlton-guitar,Pete Agnew-bass,Billy Rankin-2nd guitar,John Locke-keyboards and last but not least Darrell Sweet(R.I.P.)-drums.Long live Nazareth!

  3. Nazareth's albums all had a "lighter" tone to them that always bothered me, so that is why this CD is so great. It captures them in their live concert fury, with loud guitars and lots of noise. Some of the songs are throwaways, but for the most part, this is what Nazareth should have sounded like in the studio. If you are an old fan-pick this up. It will give you a completely different look into this band and how they could really ROCK.

  4. i also have been looking for this cd and it is very hard to find. ihave tried to find it in a lot of music stores and half of them have never heard of it.i have been a fan of theres all my life.

  5. I had this album on cassette several years ago, it was stolen with many others. It is the one I missed the most. I spent many years trying to find it again. My prayers have been answered. If you think Cheap Trick at Budokan was the ultimate live album of the 80's, your sadly mistaken.

  1. I am sorry to say this was the biggest mistake I have made in buying music! This product is poor quality, the DVD does not work(I tried several players and the my wife's computer which is almost new) and it will not play. The CD list is not accurate two songs that it lists are not on it. I think this product is not ready for the market and should be pulled off.
