  1. This is a Nederlandse (Dutch) budget reissue of GTR on King Biscuit Flower Hour. This was recorded at Wiltshire Theatre in LA. Most of their sole studio album, as well as Yes, Genesis, and solo chestnuts, are performed. One highlight is the ballad "Prizefighters", which the group never did in the studio, but Steve Hackett recorded with Bonnie Tyler and Chris Thompson (ex-Manfred Mann). Hackett left shortly after the tour, unhappy with the management and financial situation. An abandoned second album is "out there".
This group could have gone farther, but the honeymoon was over. Max Bacon would leave the business and now owns a pub in his native northern England. Steve Howe is split between Yes and Asia. Steve Hackett still has his solo career. I don't know about the others, though.

  1. This Cd would be considered a guilty pleasure. Although the sound quality is horrible the overall fun feeling of the cd makes it a fun ride. There are much better titles that showcase the talent of Dr. John, but the live feeling on several of the tracks give you a sense of good ole nawlins jazz. Track 6 is soooo bad it would qualify for the "worst" hall of fame. What were they thinking? Too many late nights and booze. If you just accept that it is bad and roll with it you can actually enjoy it. Track 1 sets the tone and others keep it going. I really like this title despite the obvious flaws.

  2. There are three notable tracks on this release. "Swanee River Boogie" is classic Dr. John boogie - very enjoyable. The "Medley" is interesting for its rendition of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken". And the title song "Hollywood Be Thy Name" wears surprisingly well - most such religious "spoofs" wear thin by the third time through; while this is not a great track the fact that it doesn't become a bad track is a significant feat.

  1. This Live CD is just outstanding! I was amazed at the quality that it shows! Is Aerosmith at its best! If you have never been to an Aerosmith concert, then buy this CD, and you'll just want to be there, with Aerosmith, on stage, between Steven and Joe!

  2. I'm serious, all their albums between Rocks and a Little South of Sanity are very mediocre. Listen to the track Same Old Song and Dance, it really kicks!

  3. I bought this CD the day after I saw Aerosmith in concert. I saw them in 1990 and they were even better in 1999! I wanted something with all my favorie songs on it and that's what I found! I was a fan back in high school in the late 70's so not only does it have the big hits from back then it has some hits from the 80's and 90's. What more could you ask for. Any band that is still going this strong after three decades has got to be GREAT! If you're an Aerosmith fan you've GOT to get "A Little South of Sanity"!

  4. I bought the cd thinking that I'd get something a little more harsh. What I mean is that I thought Tyler would have more time talking on the mike and pumping up the audience and the band then he did. I also thought that the band would go beyond the recorded songs barriers and would improvise a little bit more. Basically I anticipated them mixing everything up a little bit more. Overall I really did love the album despite what I thought and what I got. Anyways, one article I read in last months People magazine basically claimed that Aerosmith was copying their British counterparts, The Rolling Stones, but who are they to say something like that? If Aerosmith had been aroung longer than the Stones I believe the article would have gone the other way. Aerosmith has been aroung long enough, produced good enough music, and put on good enough shows over the past three decades to deserve anything they do to at least gain respect from some know-it-all "journalist'! No matter what anyone tries to argue, Aerosmith is one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands ever. And if they're still rocking in their fifties they're obviously doing something right!

  5. It has so many different songs from different albums that whenever I can't pick which Aerosmith CD I want to listen to, I put this one in! All the songs are great. I love it.

  1. My step-dad saw Petula Clark in London while she was being recorded for this collection (he was in the Navy at the time.) He told me that he always wanted a copy of this because of her beautiful voice and he was there while it was happening. So, I searched out Amazon, and voila! He was so happy to get this. I liked it too. It's been a good while since I bought it, right before he passed away in August of 2005. I was really glad that I could get this for him, and he treasured it. Because he's gone, I now have it, and wouldn't take a million dollars for it.

  2. I have heard all of Petula Clark's studio hits many times since childhood, but this is the first chance I have to hear any of her live performances. My personal verdict? Fabulous! Her live vocals are absolutely beautiful here.

This live 1972 performance catches the essence of that era, and there is an absolutely surreal meeting of the subcultures when Ms. Clark sings the medley from "Hair." The counter-culture pieces are performed in pure pop-variety-show mode. The introduction she gives before the medley is actually very touching; she mentions the impact of being a mother of two has had on her life, and she dedicates the "Hair" medley to... Peace. It's almost hard to picture such a dedication sounding anything but satirical, but she comes off as sincerely heartfelt.

All of her 1960s hits are here, and she does a flawless job on every one of them. For those of you under 40, this CD will send you that jubilant "Austin Powers" aura; for the rest of us, this serves as a top-rate quality nostalgic romp. Petula Clark, you are fabulous!

  3. Usually I don't enjoy live recordings, but this album makes me forget that fact. There are some songs such as the "My Fair Lady" ensemble that are not available on any other Pet Clark albums, and yet is just wonderful.

1 comments about Live!: Extended Versions.

  1. This is a really good, solid live album, guaranteed to warm the heart of any Billy Squier fan. It's undoubtedly a recording from the "Emotions In Motion" tour, with plenty of gems from "Don't Say No" and "Emotions In Motion". The set list for this performance also includes some of his early rarities, like "Rich Kid", "Young Girls", and "You Should Be My Love". Excellent!

I actually prefer this particular live recording to Billy's King Biscuit Flower Hour concert cd. If it stands up to a King Biscuit Flower Hour recording, then you know we're talking about quality.

If you're a fan of live albums and of Billy Squier you can't go wrong with this cd...

Quick note: Don't be misled by the "Extended Versions" label. The "Extended Versions" label is an extensive series of affordable LIVE recordings, NOT remixes or extended versions. If you know that, you're all set. If not, you're going to get a shock...

Lastly: Billy Squier's first solo album, the long out of print "TALE OF THE TAPE" (yes, there was an album before "Don't Say No") has been re-issued on cd at last on the BGO label!! BGO has packaged "Tale of the Tape" & "Don't Say No" together on one cd. Nicely done. Even better considering that up until now used "Tale of the Tape" cds have been ultra rare and commanding prices of up to $100 on ebay. Thank you BGO! Now if only the Piper (Billy's old band before he went solo) albums would be released on cd too...

  1. A live document that proves, without a doubt, they had no business carrying on without their most important members.

  2. This 2 disc set showcases a band that rose from the ashes of a former giant. Overend Watts shines as the primary song writer and natural band leader. Morgan Fisher provides depth with colorful flourishes on organ and piano while Dale Griffin is a very strong beater of the skins. This trio rose from the ashes of the mighty Hoople, and rather than feel sorry for their misfortune (losing Ralphs and Hunter), they revel in their own identity while paying serious homage to its past. Ray Major is very solid at carrying the guitar flag vacated by Ralphs, and shines on a sterling cover of the Doors classic Love me two times which is a definite hilight. He is excellent too on old Hoople chestnuts such as All the Way to Memphis and Sweet jane (a Lou Reed Cover). Where the band really Stands out though is on their own new material such as the Great White Wail, She does it, Collision Course, Storm, By Tonite, and Love now. Nigel Benjamin Sounds like a totally new singer not overwhelmed by his predecessor's VAST shadow. Having to live up to Ian Hunter and Mick Ralphs singing skills is a tall order, and Benjamin manages to accomplish this. It is an essential purchase even though there are multiple versions of some of the songs, if only to show the consistent magic this band possessed. Much maligned by critics, this a band that deserves praise for keeping the faith and starting over. This is a worthwhile history of a band that deserved a better fate, it is a hidden gem. Grab it, it will not disappoint.
