- This is (I think) a bootleg collection of songs recorded for Eric's almost forgotten 1982-move Comeback. The studio-tracks are OK, but that's it. Power Company is actually a really cool song, but this version is the worst of the 3 excisting (the best one is the original version from 1980, never released on any CD). It's too slow, lacks punch and Eric's voice seems very un-natural... And Crawling Kingsnake! Just skip that one. Even if you're a die-hard fan like me.
And as for the live stuff... It was recorded at a club in Berlin called The Metropol in 1981 with a band simply called Eric Burdon Band. That means that this stuff is much, much older than the I Band/New Animals stuff. Personally I think the songs are too long, Eric's singing is rather boring and what the f... is going on with that delay used on Eric's voice sometimes!? But if you like this concert, you should buy the CD called F#ck Me! I Thought He Was Dead! instead. That includes the entire concert, not just some of the songs (like here). But if you're looking for some good Eric Burdon material, you should check out The Official Live Bootleg and an album called Live.
- I've been on a quest for some good LIVE Eric Burdon / Animals music for a long time. I listened to this album recently and had mixed feelings. The band was great, the first four songs are in the studio and are really good with the exception of Crawling King Snake which is ten plus very long minutes and could have been left off the album or at least cut in half. Now the live stuff - The arrangments are decent but they won't blow you away. Don't Bring Me Down, Boom Boom, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood are played well but I'm Crying just didn't get it.
I've seen Eric Burdon and the Eye Band and the New Animals who turned out to be the same band. I'm not sure if that is who is backing Eric on this album, it sounds like the same crowd to me. If the energy that was put into the studio cuts carried over onto the live cuts I would have given it a higher rating. Eric's singing is quite good throughout the album though.

- First let me state that I rarely like live albums. Usually all the noise just disrupts my listening. This is one of the few that I like. Classic Hagar songs, and an energy filled performance.
- Hagar live, released about 3 years after it was recorded. At the time of its release he was a big star on Geffen records. This album is rather skimpy, most songs are fairly weak, but ok.
- Released after Sammy signed with Geffen records and exploded with the great "Standing Hampton", this album features poor sound quality but great songs from "Street Machine", "Danger Zone" and also his days with Ronnie Montrose. You will appreciate this piece of work if you are a true Hagar fan, though if you are you probably already have it. If you have only jumped on Sammy's bandwagon after a recent trip to the Cabo Wabo, then start with his other live release, "All Night Long "

1 comments about Bursting Out: Jethro Tull Live.
- I am not a big fan of live albums. Often the songs are poorly recorded live versions of what is already available on studio albums. Even when the music is recorded well, why have a live version when the studio version is better? However, there are a few live albums that present recordings better than those from a studio, or show a different side to a performer or group than the studio albums. This recording falls into the second category.
Jethro Tull has presented many stylistic faces during their lengthy career. There has been blues/English folk music, jazz-flavored music, and the rock that has gotten Tull classified as a hard rock group. The wonderful feature of this recording is that Martin Barre's lead guitar put a harder edge on many of these songs, making them sound harder than the original studio recordings. Often there are extra riffs that flavor more staid recordings; other times there are extended instrumental portions where the lead guitar screams hard rock. As an example, while "Locomotive Breath" was never a pop song, the enhanced guitar work and extended intro change the character of this song significantly from the studio version. This version is better.
A classic already considered hard rock, "Aqualung," clocks in at over eight minutes, adding substantial length to the original. Much of that additional length is in an extended bridge and a lengthened ending that features pounding piano, drums and guitar. It is songs such as these that threw Jethro Tull into the hard rock/metal category, though Jethro Tull has a range far beyond this category.
This remaster of the 1978 release is a very good cross-section of Tull's first ten years, better than the numerous compilations that are purported to be "best of" or "greatest" hits. This remaster improves significantly on previous releases of "Bursting Out." Not only are all the songs from the original vinyl release available, but the first disk is introduced by Claude Nobs and the second disk is introduced by Ian Anderson.
Jethro Tull and Ian Anderson continue to fill concert halls more than 35 years after the creation of Jethro Tull; an incredible testimony to the musical power of Ian Anderson and a group that has become nearly timeless. This album celebrates that group near the peak of their popularity and creativity; a worthy addition to any collection of classic rock and worthy of a 5-star rating.

2 comments about Alan Parsons Project - Greatest Hits Live.
- Technically, this is a reissue of the original "Alan Parsons Live" CD, which was released in England in February 1995. In June 1995, another CD was released in America called "Alan Parsons The Very Best Live", and that had three extra tracks on it (which were three previously-unreleased studio tracks). I bought both of those CD's, so I know what dates they were released on... (and even later on, someone apparently re-released the first CD, just to change the title on the cover to say "Best of Alan Parsons Live").
As an Alan Parsons album goes, this is a good collection of songs, which were recorded live on tour in Europe in May of 1994. I wouldn't say that it is a collection of their *best* songs, but it's a good collection of songs. Of course, the same could be said about all the other versions of this album. If this is the same as the original release, then it has about 40 seconds more of the live tracks than the "very best" release does, but then the "very best" release does have the extra studio songs. I have not checked to see if those extra 40 seconds are particularly interesting. They might just be more crowd noise between the songs.
If you are new to Alan Parsons or the Alan Parsons Project, I'd recommend getting "The Definitive Collection" over this one. And really, I'd recommend getting "I, Robot", "Pyramid", and "Turn of a Friendly Card" instead of the best-of collections. Most albums from The Alan Parsons Project were concept albums, and those three albums work very well as a "whole album", instead of cutting them up into singles.
- Don't be fooled like I was, although this is an import with a 1999 release date, it's is just the same old 1995 "The Very Best Alan Parsons Live" U.S. release. The only difference is 3 fewer tracks and a few minor changes to the cover art (plus of course it cost a lot more). By the way, I would have given the CD a "5" if I didn't have the old one already. Come on Alan, give us a new live CD!

- Just a quick warning to stooges and Iggy fans out there. Be careful when purchasing the non-studio albums because the quality of the recordings vary greatly. With that said, this has some great tracks, most notably Open up and Bleed and Head On. I'm a huge fan so I enjoy supplementing the 3 studio albums. Get those first (especially Fun House and Raw Power). If you like those, you'll like this. One last thing --do not buy Live in LA 1973 - quite simply the worst recorded cd ever put out. That disc has no business being available in stores.
