- Fans of Deep Purple, Rainbow should get this show.
Where many rock vocalists pickup weaker players and continue on...these guys come up with the goods.
The musicians play well. The guitar player sounds 'in the ballpark' with other Blackmore replacements. A little bit of excess notes, but good overall. A point off for the overdone licks.
The main attraction here is the vocals. Glenn and Joe DO sound great as ever. There is no problem with buried vocals. Hey...it's a good live recording.
Mixture of original HTP and older Purple, Rainbow songs. The newer tunes fit in well with the expected hits.
Very enjoyable.
- This is a very good album. I bought it for the new live versions of the Raibow/ Deep Purple/ Black Sabbath songs on it, but was even more impressed with the new tracks. As previosly reviewed, the sound quality is excellent. This was one CD I was glad to have purchased.
- This is a right-in-your-face rock & roll, with lots of feeling (courtesy of Mr. Hughes & Mr. Turner, two of the most talented singers and songwriters of all time) and with hot versions of Purple, Rainbow and Sabbath's classics. A must buy for classic hard rock fans. The reviewer below doesn't have any idea of what true rock is all about...
This album confirms that Glenn is "the voice of rock and roll". Joe is the one when feeling comes around. Together, these guys ara dynamite!!!
- Glenn Hughes is class, but this band does not cut it. Buy Burning Japan Live.
- This live album encompasses some of the best from the recently released HTP studio album, Deep Purple, and Rainbow. The sound and performances are consistent throughout. Often, new bands sound terrible in concert, but Glenn Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner do not falter, indicative of their talent and tenure in the rock world. Their Japanese backing band are quite talented musicians in their own right. The frantic organ playing in "Death Alley Driver," the guitar work in "You Can't Stop Rock and Roll" and "Dark Days," and the thunderous drums in "Ride the Storm" all attest to their talent. However, this album is not without it's more subtle songs, such as "King of Dreams," a wonderful treat from Turner's Deep Purple days. Also, "Mistreated" showcases Hughes's wonderful vocal and bass-playing skills.
Turner and Hughes share the spotlight; their egos do not crowd the cd, which is a benefit for the listener. It seems that their wild days have passed them and that they now concentrate on the music, which is, in fact, the most important thing anyhow. This CD is a definite must-buy. If you love Rainbow and Deep Purple, you'll love this. If not, then you'll probably still like it. Given the type of "rock" dominating the airwaves lately, this will feel like a cool breath of fresh air. If you like it, I'd also suggest you pick up their studio album, which contains wonderful songs not present on the live album.

- When these guys were on they were as good as it got back in the late '60's, early '70s. I saw them numerous times at the old Fillmore/Avalon Ballroom and at Winterland, Keyzar Stadium and numerous other venues. The Keyzar show would have been a complete bust, had Waylon Jennings not been on hand to rescue the show. The Dead had OD'ed and they couldn't combine for a note. Pure drivel.
Yet when they had the right "chemistry" there was no finer band in the land. They could take a collective consciousness and pin it on its ear. In fact I lost part of my hearing in my right ear from sticking my head too close to one of those huge stadium speakers to try to find my way into the "source" of the sound one crazy night at Winterland. At least I lived to tell the tale.
To make a long review short, just take your nearest listening device, attach some headphones, and listen to "Turn on Your Lovelight" on this CD. I was listening while out walking the pooch this morning and ended up boogying for about half a mile or so. My neighbors probably thought I was having a grand mal seizure or was practicing my St Vitus' Dance or both, and they were probably right. If that cut isn't one of the best live recordings ever, I don't know what is, and if it doesn't get your tail to wagging, then Jack, you a Zombie! This CD ranks right up there with the Dead's Live in Europe double album as amongst their best. Buy it or download it and alarm your nighbors, too!
BEK
- Why do so many people seem to be bashing the Grateful Dead. There's a reason why they had such a huge following, and in my mind were almost a cult of sorts.
There music is almost a religious experience, and the best way to capture a true Grateful Dead experience (i don't like to call them songs) is live.
I don't understand how anyone can even begin to critize Jerry Garcias voice. It might not have been conventional but were talking about the sixties. And personally if you listen he's not out of tune he's in the tune he wants to be in.
People this is one of the Gratest bands of all time. Buy this live album now but don't stop there, buy all of them. It's something you won't regret. If you dont like it the first time, listen again you must have missed something.
Sit back with Mary or Lucy (or whoever you'd like) and enjoy the serenade of the Grateful Dead.
- This album is powerfully packed with classic live performances, yet still concise and very sweet. If you want to bring someone into the Dead's live scene from their albums then this is a good one. However this is also a good one if you just want some powerful live Grateful Dead that's from the beginning track to the end. This has got the extended Pigpen Turn on your Lovelight and some others. It's a classic and it's great for when you just want a good jam without trying to find your desired tracks on your other CDS.
- First of all, I am not a Deadhead, but I am a fan of adventurous improvisatory music. There is some beautiful guitar/bass counterpoint on this disc (notably on "Dark Star"), and Jerry Garcia's tone is often spine-tingling. But let's be honest - these have to be some of the worst "vocals" ever preserved on tape. Seriously, the vocals on "Dark Star" are almost Shaggs-esque in their wretchedness. Also, much of the drum/percussion work is too laid back and sloppy to really kick the jams into a higher gear (though there are some exciting moments in "The Eleven"). "Lovelight" is way too long, and it isn't ever intense or soulful, in my opinion (though they seem to be trying like hell). The highlights of this disc are mostly Garcia's, and the main reason I return to this album once or twice a year is to behold his mighty fretwork on "Dark Star".
- This album is simply magic. Yes, dark star is a very unique piece of music that can be compared to nothing else. Jerry Garcia and his friends make us fly in a new dimension. No need to smoke to listen to "dark star" or "Death don't have no mercy". Listening thoses tracks is exactly the same as to smoke weed, and even more powerful.
The band is in symbiose, and this album is a masterpiece in the blues/rock/psychaldelic music of the 20th century, to be ranked in the top 10.Each time i listen to their live i wish i could have seen them on stage.
The grateful Dead are the pilots, their music is the plane, and we are the passenger.

- Yes, this is that same 1969 Toronto concert recording that's been endlessly released (usually under the title "Freak Out Song"). The song titles are wrong, the performance was poor, the quality's bad and two of the songs aren't even performed by Alice ("Goin' to the River" and "Ain't That Just Like a Woman"), they're by Ronnie Hawkins. This is, however, one of the more interesting releases.
The ninth track is a re-edited medley (which includes the two Hawkins songs). Also notable, the cover folds out into a two-panel mini poster, which is reminiscent of the one in the "Hey Stoopid" CD, with the picture on the cover. I gave it two extra stars for these extras which set it apart from the other (infinite) releases of the concert.
- This recording is really old. Made in the late 60's when The Alice Cooper Band was just starting out. If you want to hear stuff like "I'm Eighteen" or "School's Out" this album is not for you. Die hard fans could get into it for historical value, but Alice Cooper and his band have so much material that is way better than what's on this album. I bought it when I was a teenager on vinyl and it was called "Freak Out Song". I haven't listened to it in years, it's really not very well recorded either.
- As many times as this recording has been re-released you would thing at least one of the record companies would have the decency to correct the song titles. For one thing "Ain't That Just Like A Woman" and "Going To The River" are not even Alice Cooper so they should be eliminated (along with the pasted together contrived medley at the end of the disc). While I am not sure of the exact title of "Freak Out" and "Nobody Likes Me" is one of the few that are correct, "Painting A Picture" is actually called "No Longer Umpire" and "Science Fiction" is "Field Of Regret", both originally from his first album "Pretties For You". Both "For Alice" and "I Wrote A Letter To Mother" are actually the same song titled "Lay Down and Die, Goodbye" from his second album "Easy Action". It is quite obvious the record companies don't care and just want to cash in on the name of Alice Cooper.
- The EXACT same recording that's LITERALLY been released so many times over,I've honestly lost track.See my review of the 'Slack Alice' CD and you'll see what this title, that was originally 'unearthed' many moon ago is all about.Cannot believe there are THAT many completists that will actually buy every pressing of this title.Maybe I'm wrong, just wish SOMEONE would get the track listing correct.
- First off, R.E. is my dad. I'm Trenton. Now.... I bought this cd a while ago at a used cd store and I like it. It's Alice's very first live recordings from 1969 and I think it brings out some of his original sound. However, it's not an official release. Alice recieves no profit off of it. It's been released under so many labels and names most Cooper websites do not even have the full list. Two songs ARE NOT EVEN ALICE!!!! "Ain't It Just Like A Woman" and "Goin' To The River" is someone else. The best songs are "Freak Out Song" and "Nobody Likes Me" (which are Alice). I'm a collector of Alice Cooper and I'm very glad I got this album. I just wish it would be released officially.

5 comments about All Night Long.
- I've owned multiple copies of Montrose's first album and the rest of the albums with Sammy as the vocalist. When songs like "Red" and "Turn up the Music" started to be played on the radio I wanted to hear more and bought this album.
It remains an excellent live recording, although too short by today's standards, it contains some of Sammy's best early years songs. His band with the "Electric" Bill Church on bass, Denny Carmassi on drums and Gary Pihl on guitar, was a very tight unit. Interestingly Pihl would leave to join Boston for later albums.
My favorites are "Turn up the Music" and "Bad Motor Scooter", both from the 70's hard rock uptempo school. Bad Motor does unfortunately fade out somewhere before the end of the song. The lesser known "Young Girl Blues" is a cover of an old Donovan tune, that starts out slow and builds to a climax.
When this was released it may not have been metal, but it had lots of guitars and rock swagger, so get it and turn it up!
- 1978's All Night Long is the red rocker's first live album. All Night Long mixes songs from Sammy's first couple of solo albums with a few Montrose classics. All Night Long is a great live album full of energy. Highlights include: Red, Rock n Roll Weekend, Make it Last, I've Done Everything for you, and Bad Motor Scooter. It is my understanding that All Night Long has been reissued as an import titled Loud and Clear with Montrose's Space Station # 5 added, bringing the album up to 8 songs. If you can find All Night Long get it!!!!!!!!!!
- All night long, that's what I played over and over. I must have cut all new grooves in the vinyl. I loved playing it loud when the house was empty. The music was real, no synthesisers and all metal.
"You've done nothing for me" the title and lyrics was every young teenage boys frustration after the first HS dance.
The classic "Bad Motoor Scooter" this was not about the "Pet Shop Boys" (MTV-1986).
I really can hum along all the songs and "Make it Last".
The most unfortunate event occured when I left home and left my Vinyl with my Brother. Hopefully its still in his crate? If I could ever get the Vinyl cover autographed by the "Red Rocker" tm. That would be great.
- For those of you interested in buying this CD, I can't say for certain, but it's my understanding that "Loud & Clear" by Sammy Hagar is the same CD, except it's the European version with a different cover. As I haven't actually heard the afore mentioned CD, I can't say for certain. But I thought that anyone interested in buying this CD should be aware of this. So until this CD is re-issued, consider "Loud & Clear" as an alternative (presumably "Loud & Clear" has been re-mastered as well).
- This is quite simply the definitive live hard rock album.
Great guitar, brilliant vocals and with Bill Church on bass, it is the album to listen in the car. So wind down your window as you pass the old folks home and turn up the volume. One gripe...there has to be I suppose, WHO ON EARTH decided to fade out on Bad Motor Scooter! Just as Sammy was getting going. Don't let that deter you, go and buy it.

5 comments about Live MCMXCIII.
- I still mix it and play it all the time. The only version that holds up to it is Courtney Love's live version (which is also a killer). Docked a star for John Cale who is still arch after all these years (exception: Songs for Drella).
- `The Velvet Underground Live MCMXCIII (1993)' is a two CD set collected from performances at the Paris (France) L'Olympia Theater. From the response of the audience to the Velvet's performances, I think the myth that only about a thousand people ever actually listened to The Velvet Underground (but, the story goes, each and every one of those thousand started a band influenced by the Velvets.
By some standards, this may not be a `great' live album, in the same league as `The Who Live at Leeds', but I think it is pretty darn good. Since this was recorded at least 25 years after the Velvet's prime and the release of their first two albums, from which most of this material comes, it is really a pleasure to hear Lou Reed and John Cale and Moe Tucker and Sterling Morrison in such good voice. (Well, Moe seems to be a bit raspy and forced on her single solo, but it was done for fun, so it sort of fits).
Since most of the material does come from the first two albums, there is a strong chance that all of your favorites will be here. And, when Lou or John does the vocal on a number originally sung by Nico, I think this live version is actually better, as I was never a big fan of Andy Wharhol's designated chanteuse.
The only number I miss is the last cut of the first album, `European Son to Delmore Schwartz', which was a great closing number. Instead, they close the CDs with a very quiet song, `Coyote', which, frankly, I don't recognize, so it may even be a Lou Reed number.
I am really happy that they stuck to the Velvet's material, even though both Reed and Cale have had successful solo careers. I am also very happy that we have the original four. I don't mean other sidemen couldn't have done as well, but I like to see the original band get the bread for doing the gig and not some pickup musicians backing Reed and Cale.
Thus, to answer the big question on all live or `best of' albums, is this worth the cost of duplicating the numbers. To me, a died in the wool fan and proud owner of two original vinyl albums with banana sticker intact, I believe this is well worth the ability to carry around in one jewel case, an album of good performances by the original band with enthusiastic audience in thrall.
- If you are a fan, consider this: there are live versions of "The Gift" and "I Heard Her Call My Name" on this record. And they are both not only as good as the versions on White Light/White Heat, but were recorded on modern equipment.
If you are not a fan, you should be. I was aware of this record, but always avoided it for some reason. How could it possibly be good?
Well it is. Lou Reed attempts actual singing more on this record than anything he's recorded since Loaded. He doesn't always succeed. And John Cale rarely succeeds when he sings. (But he does when talking 'The Gift' - go figure.)
But the drums and guitars are everything they ever were, but the sonics improvements provide liftoff at every turn. And the songs are pretty good, too. The band that recorded WL/WH is the one that showed up for this reunion.
The reunion they deserved.
- I don't know why this album wasn't more popular than it was. I WAS glad to see that it charted in billboard magazine ( #180 ).This is their best live album ! I like it almost as much as their original studio albums. It was a great comback for them. I only wished they reunited and stayed for a while. I highly recommend this cd for any velvets fan old AND new.
- 'Live MCM...' was recorded on the band's apparently unlikely reunion in 1993.If you're hoping for a stunning record here, you'd probably be a bit let down. It's okay, not great but decent.I've never been THAT huge of a VU fan,but I thought I'd give this disc a shot.Good alternative proto punk,as one might label it.Cuts I dug the most were "All Tomorrow's Parties","After Hours",one of their most memorable, the sedate "Sweet Jane","I'm Waiting For The Man"(I've seen this track covered on Hawkwind and Pink Fairies bootlegs/legit CD's)and "Heroin".Line-up:Lou Reed-guitar&vocals,John Cale-keyboards,Sterling Morrison(R.I.P.)-guitar and Maureen Tucker-drums.

1 comments about Live: The 1971 Tour.
