  1. I love live blues. I love Big Jack. BUT the audio quality on
almost every other track is appalling and this CD should never have been released.

  2. Excellent music (his version of "Night Train" is one of the best I've ever heard) by an excellent musician. You can really hear how timeless the blues is in this album. Get it if you enjoy Albert King or Buddy Guy and you won't be dissapointed!

  1. Had the pleasure of hearing these guys many times during the early 80s in W. Lafayette, IN while a student at Purdue. Performing for a bunch of corn-fed white kids, BT&TMFs might have looked out of place, but they were a huge hit everytime they came to town. Even partied w/Larry once...ah, my mis-spent youth...this cd sure brings it back. Tight, hot, great live band. Underrated and unappreciated, this band's just a blast to listen to.

  2. Growing up in Southern Illinois, it was a weekly event for Twist and the Mellow Fellows to sneak me (being underage) into Merlins to hear them play. What more can I say? They were phenomenal.

  3. Saw the original Big Twist only once before he died. Recorded a tape and played it constantly. The CD is wonderful, only wish that it had included "Childrens Blues" which is a favorite of mine. He was a great bluesman and played great Chicago Style Blues. Everyone who hasn't heard this band, should!

  4. If you don't own this cd, you should 'covet' the thought of owning it. Larry is no longer with us physically, but those of us that were privey to the wonderful world of his 'down home Chicago blues', will never get him out of our system. In his "hayday', he had one of the most gripping blues "bands" going. His voice alone, and the way he delivered it, was truly the essensce of what blues IS. For those that didn't get a chance to kow him or his music while he was alive, I feel sorry that you didn't. The redeeing grace is, that, through 'modern technology',you can have this experience now. Do you want to party? Then you need this CD. This is the best of all the "Twist" CD's. Turn it up! It doesn't get better than this!

  5. BTMF was the best bar band I have ever experienced. I used to catch them frequently in and around Chicago in the late 80's and early 90's. This album captures and extremely tight, lively R&B band in their prime. Steamroller Blues, Turning Point, To Much BBQ are all classics. If these guys didn't get you moving, man you are dead!

  1. If you love live jazz, and you love great drumming, you will adore this album. Mel Brown was the drummer behind many famous groups (I believe mostly Motown groups, possibly even the Four Tops and the Temptations). Currently, he is probably one of the best jazz drummers around, certainly one of the best, if not the best, in Oregon. Seeing him playing live is a joy, as he is not only a phenominal drummer, but he just always seems to be having an incredably great time. Although hearing him on a recording cannot compare to actually seeing him live, this album is the next best thing. Recorded live at Jimmy Mak's (an intimate Greek restaurant and jazz club in Portland, OR), it really captures the sound of a great band live in a great club. Unconditionally recommended.

  1. This album is like any other BB King album you may have encountered before, it has those same old string bends, and features a guitar player who is really doing what they want to do and playing with passion complete with astonishing ability. However, Caladonia is the real highlight, which features the un - credited Peter Green jammin' with one of his biggest heroes...amazing.

  1. BEING THAT I MADE THIS PURCHASE IN FEBRUARY 2007 AND THE CD WAS RELEASED IN 1984 I KNEW I WAS TAKING A CHANCE BASED ON ONE OF SHAQ'S "The King Of The World Blues Reviewer" MAIN CRITERIA: SOUND QUALITY! THIS CD TYPIFIES ONE OF MY WORST FEARS! POOR RECORDING QUALITY. ALBERT COLLINS, IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BEST ELECTRIC BLUES GUITARIST'S, BUT THE SOUND QUALITY IS VERY POOR! IN ADDITION, 39 MINUTES IS PRETTY SHORT FOR A LIVE BLUES PERFORMANCE. UNLESS YOU'RE A COLLECTOR, WHO JUST WANTS TO PUT A CHECK MARK ON ALL OF ALBERT'S RECORDINGS, I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THE PURCHASE.

  2. Mr. Collins is without a doubt my favorite guitarist. If you want to play in Texas, you have to play music people can dance to, and this influence is evident in Albert's live music. His Telecaster set up produces a more powerful sound, and his sense of humor can be detected in all his CDs. His potent blues riffs cut "way down deep into your soul".

This is a good CD with some soul piercing blues as well as some foot tapping good time tunes. The Master is accompanied by a small backup band. It's a gritty, all out jam.

  3. Albert Collins unleashes the soul of blues guitar on this album! From beginning to end this recording cuts to the listener's core, as Collins' guitar performs musical surgery with a master's skill! All of the songs are great, but the real gem is "Stormy Monday." Collins' version is simply outstanding! In this song Albert Collins truly pierces the very soul of the listener, and lifts it to a higher place! The guitar solo is breathtaking! This album is full of great music, and should be owned by every real fan of blues. Buy it now and experience the depth of a blues legend.

  4. This cd is really an explosive mix, blended with the great presence of this power trio in one of perhaps, the best "Live"performances ever released.Casey Jones on drums;A.C. Reed on sax and the "Iced-hot Man" Albert Collins is really an explosive mix you must try on!!!

  5. It is impossible to describe the raw energy of this CD. Don't even think of sitting down! Your foot will be tapping inside of 30 seconds flat. You will be dancing in the kitchen. The greatest legal pick-me-up since caffein. It's like stickin' your finger right into the Blues socket when your momma isn't lookin'. It feels so fun it must be bad.

Carefully save this CD for that dark, grey day when you just don't have the get-up-and-go to do what you have to do that day. Then insert this CD and crank the volume waaay up. It could save your life.
