- Turn this one up when your friends come over. Excellent blues and a sweet voice. Even better, go see the Duke in person. Blues that doesn't sound like every other blues band.

1 comments about Golden Legends: B.B. King Live.
- First, I'll start with the highlights:
-It's a pre-MCA B.B. King in the 1950s, back when he was a young artist signed to EMI. The sides here are legendary EMI sides of the early '50s, and some of the recordings here date all the way back to 1951.
-It's got tons of great tunes! 'Three O'Clock Blues,' 'Sweet Little Angel' and 'The Other Night Blues,' all of which became concert standards for B.B. during his 1950s EMI career.
-It's one of the few places to find 'Please Love Me,' one of my personal favorite B.B. EMI tunes. This is the only compilation I can think of at the moment that offers it.
And now, I will focus on the flaws:
-NONE of the disc was recorded live. If you are looking for a B.B. King live recording, go pick up 'Live At The Regal' or 'Live At Cooks County Jail.' Those are great live recordings. But every song here is a studio recording from the early 1950s.
-The sound quality is very mixed. On some, like 'Three O'Clock Blues,' the sound is superb. But on others, like 'B.B. Boogie,' it's awfully. 'B.B. Boogie' has a very bad sound quality, very tinny. There is tons of static.
-The cover art is misleading. The picture here on the cover was taken recently. These were recorded in the 1950s, so the least Madacy could do was use a picture of B.B. that was taken in the early '50s, during his EMI years.
This disc is one of the better discs Madacy has released in it's 'Golden Legends' series. Actually, it's one of Madacy's better releases period. This is sold at a bargain price, and if you want a solid, cheap look at his EMI years, before he was famous, then this is recommended.
It's a good EMI years outlook, but it can be skipped. If you want good sound quality throughout and you want an EMI-years best of, pick up 'Classic Masters,' which is also cheap. If you can't find that one, though, and you need a quick look at his EMI years, this isn't a bad option.
Recommended only if you want a quick, cheap look at his EMI years.

1 comments about Atlanta Blues Legend.
- Songs like "It Was In The Weary Hour Night" (related to Blind Willie McTell and Curley Weaver's gorgeous "Wee Midnight Hours"), "Betty And Dupree" and "Every Day Seems Like Sunday" prove that Buddy Moss was one of the greatest acoustic Bluesmen to have ever lived. This material was recorded supposedly after his prime, however, in my opinion, his playing and singing is much better, and the variety of material is greater, on this disc than on his 1930s recordings. Buddy Moss is the only artist who recorded in the 20s and 30s who actually sounded better during the Country Blues revival than he did on his old 78 records. It took me a while to really appreciate this record. For some bizarre reason, I didn't enjoy it on first listen. A while later, I went back and listened to it, and truly appreciated it. At the time this record was recorded, Moss' contemporary, the great Blind Willie McTell, had passed away. Barbecue Bob had been dead for approximately thirty years. Therefore, in the 1960s, Moss was the representative of the Atlanta Blues scene of yesteryear. This is a fantastic record which I can't recommend enough. "How I Feel Today" is perhaps the darkest song on this record, in terms of mood, and is another stand-out performance.

- This is a cd for those people who want to try an emotional experience. When you put this cd at the player and run it,one of the best harp player performances will begin. What we can expect from this complete bluesman??An incendiary powerful performance at that club in Chicago, imediatelly will put you to dance for all the night. The performance is really astonishing, something like a Devil's presence, on that stage. For me, one of the best "Live Harp"cds ever released yet!!Marvellous!!!

5 comments about Live from Chicago! Bigger Than Life!.
- Had the pleasure of hearing these guys many times during the early 80s in W. Lafayette, IN while a student at Purdue. Performing for a bunch of corn-fed white kids, BT&TMFs might have looked out of place, but they were a huge hit everytime they came to town. Even partied w/Larry once...ah, my mis-spent youth...this cd sure brings it back. Tight, hot, great live band. Underrated and unappreciated, this band's just a blast to listen to.
- Growing up in Southern Illinois, it was a weekly event for Twist and the Mellow Fellows to sneak me (being underage) into Merlins to hear them play. What more can I say? They were phenomenal.
- Saw the original Big Twist only once before he died. Recorded a tape and played it constantly. The CD is wonderful, only wish that it had included "Childrens Blues" which is a favorite of mine. He was a great bluesman and played great Chicago Style Blues. Everyone who hasn't heard this band, should!
- If you don't own this cd, you should 'covet' the thought of owning it. Larry is no longer with us physically, but those of us that were privey to the wonderful world of his 'down home Chicago blues', will never get him out of our system. In his "hayday', he had one of the most gripping blues "bands" going. His voice alone, and the way he delivered it, was truly the essensce of what blues IS. For those that didn't get a chance to kow him or his music while he was alive, I feel sorry that you didn't. The redeeing grace is, that, through 'modern technology',you can have this experience now. Do you want to party? Then you need this CD. This is the best of all the "Twist" CD's. Turn it up! It doesn't get better than this!
- BTMF was the best bar band I have ever experienced. I used to catch them frequently in and around Chicago in the late 80's and early 90's. This album captures and extremely tight, lively R&B band in their prime. Steamroller Blues, Turning Point, To Much BBQ are all classics. If these guys didn't get you moving, man you are dead!
